PASTOR JERRY EZE
PERSONAL LIFE
We are pleased to have you as our first cover personality of the year and there are many facets to you- father, husband, pastor etc . Who is Eze Jerry, the man?
I am the little boy GOD picked from nowhere. I love God passionately. To do His Will is my ultimate desire. I can afford to describe myself either by my ‘highs’ or ‘lows’ but I will rather stick to the simple description of THAT LITTLE BOY THAT GOD SHOWED GREAT MERCY.
You have been described by many as being humble, how do you stay grounded?
How on earth can I not be humble. I Dey craze? I never forget where I am coming from. I am a product of mercy. I never imagined God will help me thus far. Never thought life could make sense beyond where I was. Did I think He could use me to touch the world? We were poor, I was from a single parent and God still turned everything round to show me mercy.
Besides the Bible and Jesus Christ, what books and people have most influenced you in life and ministry?
Many of them. In every phase of my journey, there have been men and books that I needed and they have become too numerous. But two men who wrote books that affected my phases of journey in God were Gbile Akanni and Tommy Tenney.
How do you strike a healthy balance between marriage, family and ministry?
I do so by revelation. God helps. He most certainly helps. My wife has been amazing. She doubles up where and when I am not around.
What are the top 3 things you love about your wife and why?
She loves God passionately. She loves to Pray. She loves to laugh. That I love to do as well.
How would you describe your wife?
She is just a chill person with a burning passion for God.
MINISTRY LIFE
How did it all start? Can you tell us about your call to ministry?
I have always been in ministry from my very young years. I remember ministering in my class in my primary 6. Where I laid hands on people and ministered healing and deliverance on them; but then again, the call to down tools from my UNITED NATIONS job came in 2009, and so to speak, I became a full time ministry person.
What are your non-negotiable?
Well I would say non-negotiables, Love For God, Honesty and Honour for people.
You speak in tongues a lot while preaching, what informed this preaching style?
I would say that it comes from the overflow of what happens in my spirit man.
How do you keep being accountable in your personal life and in ministry? Do you have any processes in place to ensure that?
I set safe boundaries, and I have people around me who give me honest feedback. I don’t have a cupboard nor skeletons to be kept in a cupboard.
What has been the biggest mistake you have made in ministry and also your biggest joy?
My biggest mistake? Maybe I would not really call it a mistake, perhaps I erred and often prefer to err on the side of kindness, and I have ended up trusting some people more than they deserved to be trusted.
My biggest joy has been to see God lift men from their situations and make their lives better. I get excited when people testify to God’s goodness.
The phrase “What God cannot do, doesn’t exist” has become a regular part of cultural lexicon. Is there any experience that spurred the phrase?
Well it was born out of the several strange acts of God that we have witnessed as a people. When you see what we have seen, you would have no option but to scream that phrase.
What inspired the NSPPD daily live program?
It was the beginning of the Covid-19 lockdown, there was so much hopelessness all around, and I felt God lead me to inspire hope and increase prayers. I didn’t plan for it to become what it has now become, but let’s say I just wanted to do what God would have me do.
