A Message From The Mayor...

LOUD SPEAKER

What a wonderful 150th Anniversary Celebration we had. Our big event on June 24th was truly outstanding and a great way for our residents and people in nearby communities to come together and enjoy the rich history and heritage of Ivyland Borough. We thank all who helped us put it together. And we’re not done yet! Our annual Bonfire and Hayride is coming on Saturday October 21st and Halloween in the borough is always a spooky good time. Plus visit the Fire Company for a Pancake Breakfast with Santa on Sunday December 3rd – and he comes back to visit Ivyland on Saturday December 9th. And don’t forget the lighting of luminaria on Christmas Eve Sunday December 24th. All of these events and traditions are what makes our little borough such a unique place. We look forward to having you be part of them and maybe making some new ones too! Enjoy.

The original Loud Speaker, founded in 1925, was a local institution not only in Ivyland but in all of the surrounding areas. Much more than an advertising circular, the paper was filled with the wisdom and pithy humor of its editor, H. H. Eddowes. Ivyland and The Loud Speaker belonged together (and still do). Today we try to bring a little of that spirit back to the borough with an updated publication that has its roots in the past and its focus on the present. We hope you enjoy it.

This past June 24th marked the 150th anniversary of the founding of Ivyland with a special borough-wide celebration. With over a year of planning by the Ivyland Heritage Association, borough and local volunteers, the highly anticipated day finally came. Packed with all sorts of events, entertainment, food and history - the day started out literally under a cloud of uncertainty. After nearly a month of droughtlike weather, days of heavy rain threatened. The morning started with gray skies and spritzing rain which eventually turned into a heavy downpour right at the noontime opening ceremony. Yet the crowds were not dissuaded and still people came to experience what Ivyland has to offer. Their optimism paid off as the skies soon cleared to an amazing sunny warm day of music, food, history and fun. With two music stage venues, multiple food trucks, a big tent featuring nearly a dozen local historical associations, antique bicycles and riders, antique and classic cars, a horse-drawn wagon tour through the neighborhood, local artists display, the Ivyland Country Store and a revival of the original Ivyland Strawberry Festival, it was a day literally for the history books. The celebration was culminated by an evening performance of the Warminster Symphony Orchestra. Many thanks go out to our sponsors, committee members, Borough Council, event participants, many hard-working volunteers and of course our residents and guests who made the Ivyland 150th Anniversary Celebration such a success. Here’s to many more to come!

A Great Run – the Annual Ivyland 5K

Events

August 19th

The Ivyland 5K was extra special this year as it comes during the borough’s milestone 150th anniversary. Run organizer Jon Severn notes “It's an honor to be a long-standing tradition and we were thrilled to commemorate Ivyland's 150th on our shirts.” The race, a scenic 3.1 mile course through the streets of Ivyland Borough and the surrounding area, started at Gough and Twining Ave. and eventually finished by Ivyland Commons park. The weather was beautiful and drew a great crowd of nearly 300 runners! Mattew Sander (16:23) was the overall winner and Molly Thomas (20:24) was the top female. Homegrown talent T.J. Zwall was 3rd overall in 16:53. Ivyland runners dominated again this year. Vitaly Belotserkovsky and Todd Coulson came 1st and 2nd in their bracket and Henry Colby, Lisa Rementer, Zeffi Angelikas also made the podium. We hear every year how much people love running in Ivyland and the pancake breakfast is legendary (and the prizes of pies and baked goods, too). A big thanks goes to everyone at the Ivyland Fire Company, the Ivyland Presbyterian Church, the crew at Finisher Fitness, all the race sponsors and the whole borough for supporting local running again this year. Mark your calendar for August 17th, 2024 for next year's race!

When we get those heavy storms, do you ever wonder where all the water ends up? Well in many cases it ends up in the streams and waterways of our surrounding communities and with it comes the pollutants from our streets and properties too. So scan the code below and check out this information from the PA Dept of Environmental Protection on what you can do to help minimize the impacts. The more you know the more you can be stormwater smart.

The fall waste dumpster at the Fire House should arrive sometime before mid November. The weather and amount of leaves down determines its arrival so keep an eye out. Remember, it is for disposal of organic yard waste only and no bags please.

Street Drain and Pipes Please try to keep leaves and debris out of the storm pipes and drains in front of your property. Be a good neighbor to all and keep those openings leaf-free. It takes just a minute or two with a rake but keeps down harmful erosion and avoids road flooding. Thank you! Scan Code To Learn More
