Nillumbik Pet Expo offers paws for thought By Ashley Geelan Thursday, 10 October, 2019,22:19 Nillumbik Shire's Pet Expo is set to be the perfect day out for the wider

community with pet exhibitions to also include Banyule and Whittlesea Shire. To be held Sunday week on 20 October from 10am to 3.30pm at Marngrook Oval in Diamond Creek, the event will include a range of family fun and entertainment. More than 30 exhibitors offering everything from pet beds and blankets to photography, toys, treats and food will attend the expo. There will be paw-some family entertainmentincludingkelpieshows, canine ninja demonstrations, a petting zoo, a lure course, pony rides, a jumping castle and face painting. Mayor Karen Egan encouraged everyone to join in the fun of the day. “Now in its 23rd year, the Nillumbik Pet Expo is one of Council’s biggest and longest-running events, regularly attracting more than 5000 visitors.”Nillumbik Mayor, Karen Egan. “It’s an opportunity for visitors to have their pets’ microchip details checked and updated and chat with our Community Safety Officers,” Cr Egan said. Ellis Ward Councillor Peter Perkins said the expo continues to be a major event for Diamond Creek. “The Nillumbik Pet Expo seems to get bigger and better each year,” Cr Perkins said. “At the expo, you can talk with Council officers about responsible pet ownership and the ways Council can provide information and support. “Visitors can also meet rescue animals from Save a Dog Scheme, No Hairs Ark Chinese Crested Rescue, German Shepherd Rescue Victoria, Starting Over Dog Rescue, Ingrid’s Haven and The Cat Protection Society of Victoria. “Whether you have a pet or you’re considering adoption – or both – come along to the expo, where you

can access plenty of valuable information,” he said. The City of Whittlesea and Banyule City Council will also exhibit at the Nillumbik Pet Expo. Pet owners from all three municipalities can have their pets registered at the event. There will be plenty of competitions to enter your pet into as well. Does your pet look a little like you? Be honest! If it does, you could be a contender in the pet/owner lookalike competition. There will be great prizes on offer from PETStock for the smallest pet, the largest pet, the bestdressed pet and the pet with the best trick, as well as the best pet/owner lookalike.
