多Por Que Las Personas Migran Por Razones Politicas? Argentina has had lots of immigrants since the 19th century. There was a large wave of immigration in 1914, this was at the start of world war one. They moved because many people were getting persecuted, and it was not a safe place to be. Most immigrants were from Europe, mostly Spain and Italy. There was a large amount of Jewish immigrants that also fled to Argentina to avoid the holocaust. From 1895 to 1914 the population almost doubled: 4 million people, to 7.9 million people. And in 1947 there were 15.8 million people. Most people who immigrated to Argentina stayed in Buenos Aires. In 1895 Immigrants accounted for 52% of the population in the capital, and 31% in Buenos Aires. In 2010 only 1,805, 957 immigrants lived in Argentina, making up for 4.50% of the population. Massive amounts of the immigrants from 1895 came due to World War One. Most of the immigrants in 2010 came from: Paraguay and Bolivia. Between 1992 and 2003 an average of 13,187 immigrants came to Argentina legally. The Argentinian government calculates that 504,000 people entered during that same time period. This means there were about 345,000 illegal immigrants at that time.

多Por Que Las Personas Migran Por Razones Politicas? (cont.) Argentina has been a very popular place to immigrate to for several reasons. When Argentina is very wealthy, many people will move to, and the population will increase. Although, once the economy starts to decline, a lot of people leave, both past immigrants and natives of the country.

As of now, Argentina is 97 percent European, which in my opinion is a lot. A lot of other countries in South America are like this; including Uruguay (90 percent European), Brazil (50 percent European), Chile (25 percent). (and a lot more countries in South America) Argentina is a very popular place to live for quite a few reasons, a large one being that they have a 90 percent literacy rate.

The first recorded time Europeans came to Argentina were in 1516, Juan Diaz de Solis went to Rio de la Plata and claimed that area for Spain. This was not very successful, because when they were confronted with the Native Argentineans. This was the first brutal encounter; most of the Europeans were killed.

¿Por Que Las Personas Migran Por Razones Politicas? (cont.)

From 1975-90 the economy of Argentina has been going down. In 1991 economist Domingo Cavallo privatized companies, trade liberation, and many other strategies that have raised Argentina’s economic stance completely. He Is part of the reason that in the past twenty years (1991-2011) the amount of immigrants has more than doubled not only in Argentina but also in many countries like Paraguay, Bolivia, China, Peru, and a few others. Argentina was once known as a country of immigration because of its booming economy and great standards of living. Economic, political, and social problems have slowly changed Argentina into a country of immigration, emigration, and transit; far from the way it was. Argentina's economic collapse in 2001 had large emigration periods of Argentine nationals and immigrants. In the past five years, an estimated 300,000 people have left Argentina. Although the amount of emigration in 2001 was large, Argentina's strong need of mostly unskilled, low-wage labor, ensures its will continue to be a immigration hub, constantly getting new migrants due to economic needs from other countries in the south of Latin America. Therefore, while many foreign workers in Argentina have short-term trips to Argentina, (assuming they will have another move either back to home or away again) others are permanent, as shown by increasing permanent immigration rates in recent years.

多Por Que Las Personas Migran Por Razones Economicas? (cont.)

Lately Mexican immigration has been very slow, more people have been migrating due to the Cartel. The Cartel is a huge gang that is mostly in Mexico City, but has gang members throughout Mexico. The Cartel in Mexico City has many people afraid to immigrate to Mexico. This is due to Mexico being such a violent place because of the cartel, and the social problems they are causing: shooting people for trying to leave Mexico, extortion, and drug smuggling. More than 5,400 people were killed last year due to violence from the Cartel. Tourism has also been impacted by the Cartel. The Cartel has been forcing tourists to leave the country at gunpoint, and also mugging a lot of young college students that go down to Mexico for parties, drinking, drugs, etc. There is also a lot of Migration from Mexico to US. %23.7 Of the US is from Mexico, and that number rises every year substantially. Many Mexican immigrants coming to America are applying as refugees because they are being persecuted in Mexico and need to leave for safety reasons. Many reporters in Mexico have been threatened to be killed if they don’t leave Mexico. The economy in Mexico has also directly affected the immigration patterns. Due to the lack of jobs in Mexico mass amounts of Mexicans have been immigrating to America.

多Por Que Las Personas Migran Por Razones Sociales?(cont.)

The Spanish Colonization went on from about the 1600's to the late 1800's. Spanish explorers led by Vasco Núñez de Balboa from Columbia came north along the Atrato River all the way to where Panama City now is. War with the Indians and not being able to find large silver or gold deposits made it hard to change the settlers mind to colonize in that area. Spanish settlement were mostly religious missions, small towns, and military posts to keep away countries like Russia, France, and England. Until 1749 when Spain established the first town in Texas. That town is now known as Laredo, Texas. The immigrants then went south to Mexico in areas like Tenochtitlan. It wasn't until 1769 that the Spanish started setting up towns in California. By brining animals and crops to the area, Spanish Colonists completely changed the economy, environment, and appearance in the Southwest. The Spanish brought livestock such as horses, sheep’s, goats, and cows. They also brought crops like tomatoes, chilies, Kentucky bluegrass, and a variety of weeds. As all of the livestock ate the regions tall grasses, a new southwestern environment came to be. A environment with cactus, sagebrush and mesquite. The Spanish also brought diseases that came from tropical areas. This reduced the Indian population by fifty to ninety percent.

多Como Se Connecta Lo Que Aprendi En Mi Vida? This class relates to me in several ways. This class connects to spanish heritage. We have been learning a lot about Mexico (my family is from there). I have learned a lot about not only Mexico, but also Argentina, and other surrounding countries in both North and South America. I have also moved a few times for economic reasons. Over the past few years I have moved to the outer suburbs to get a larger house at a cheaper price.
