Honoring the Gift of God in Honoring the Gift of God in
Bishop Dwight S. Riddick, Sr. Bishop Dwight S. Riddick, Sr.
Your Labor Has Not Been in Vain “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” ~ 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)
In a world where results often come slowly and recognition can be rare, this verse stands as a bold reminder: God sees every act of service done in His name. Whether it was your preaching, teaching, praying, or simply encouraging someone in their faith, your labor for the Lord did not go unnoticed or unrewarded.
Paul begins this verse with the word “Therefore,” connecting it to the truth of Christ’s resurrection. Because Jesus lives, our work has eternal value. That means every seed you've planted, every soul you touched, and every step you have taken in obedience to God is part of a greater kingdom purpose.
“Stand firm,” Paul says don’t waver when challenges arise. “Let nothing move you” not discouragement, not fatigue, not even lack of appreciation. Continue to serve, continue to love, continue to build, and continue to lead with confidence. Your strength may falter, but God’s faithfulness never will.
So today, if you find yourself wondering if your efforts matter, be encouraged: Heaven keeps the record. And in due time, you will reap a harvest if you do not give up (Galatians 6:9). Stay steadfast, and know with certainty your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the reminder that what my husband does for You has purpose and impact. Strengthen him to remain steadfast and unshaken in Your service. Continue to encourage him to give himself fully to Your work, trusting that You are using him for Your glory. Amen.

Rooted and Bearing Fruit
“They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither whatever they do prospers.”
~ Psalm 1:3 (NIV)
In a world with so much uncertainty, it is special to find a life that has remained rooted deeply, steadily, and faithfully rooted in the presence and purpose of God. For 40 years, Bishop Dwight Riddick has stood tall in faith, not only weathering storms, but providing shelter, nourishment, and strength to those around him.
Psalm 1 offers the illustration of the righteous person as a tree planted by streams of water. It speaks of deep roots, consistent feeding from the Word of God, and the kind of unshakable life that yields fruit over time fruit that feeds generations and glorifies God.
Your fruit, Bishop Riddick, is evident. It’s in the sons and daughters of the faith you've raised. It’s in the hope you've offered in hospital rooms, at revival altars, and during quiet conversations. We are all the better because of your consistency and conviction!
To all who read this, let this moment be a call to stability in an unstable world. To live a fruitful life is not to be perfect, but to be planted. It’s choosing, day after day, to draw from the streams of God’s presence His Word, His Spirit, His call.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of Bishop Dwight Riddick. May You continue to bless him to bear fruit in every season to come. Thank You for the witness that he is to many. May the seeds he has sown continue to bear fruit that glorifies You for years to come. We pray that You will bless us all to remain rooted and consistent in our walk with You.

Tried By Fire
“That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:” ~ 1 Peter 1:7
I am certain the man we see today and the woman who always walks beside him, are not the couple who began in ministry 40 years ago And I am convinced that’s because they have been tried by fire many, many times during the past four decades But, thanks be to God, they came out of every fiery trial much stronger than when they went in! Bless the living God!
Today, I see a man and woman who demonstrate a deep love for the Lord, each other, and people. They are great role models for all.
Yet, none of us know all the Lord has brought them through to get them to where they are today We don't know the crosses He required them to bear, individually or as a couple, or the trials and tribulations He used to test and refine their faith. Even when they are tired to the point of exhaustion, weary, or unwell, I see Bishop and Lady Vera persevering. Despite the often long, demanding, and sacrificial hours, they consistently show up ready and willing to minister always cheerfully No, we don’t know the intimate details of their story. But God knows. He considers them obedient and faithful
Finally, no one gets to this ministry milestone without having surrendered their wills to the will of the living God walking in obedience to Him, and being tried by Holy Ghost fire. Of this I am certain. And if we want to be like Jesus, or like Bishop and Lady Vera as they continue following Jesus, we are going to be tried by fire, too. Just be encouraged by this: Whatever fiery situation you might find yourself in, there will always be One walking in the midst with you.
Prayer: And Father God, how grateful we are for Your servants, Bishop Dwight and Lady Vera Riddick. Father, thank You for allowing us to see You shining in and through them and their many years of faithful service Lord, please continue to bless them in “eye hath not seen, nor ear heard” ways And thank You for being with each of us in midst of the fire. In the precious name of Jesus, thank You for hearing and answering this prayer Amen.

AChosen Vessel
“But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:” ~Acts 9:15
Forty years of ministry has proven that Bishop Dwight S. Riddick, Sr. is a vessel that God has chosen. God selected, appointed, and entrusted him to many positions as he spread the gospel. Bishop Riddick is special, precious, and valuable in God’s eyes because he walks in humility and is an encourager to many.
The sanctification of Bishop’s life is God’s stamp of approval. He has been tempered as an honored vessel one prepared for God’s use as he models praying, living, speaking, teaching, and preaching the Holy Word of God. Thank you, Bishop Riddick, for your commitment and dedication in ministry to the Lord Jesus.
Anecdotally, I was given the task of selecting a vase for a Peace Lily that had outgrown its container. I visited Home Depot’s® garden division and found such a wide selection of pots that it was overwhelming; it was hard to choose. Then I realized I couldn’t make the best choice because I had failed to measure the present container which would help me choose the right replacement I needed one that would allow the roots to grow, be deep enough to permit ample amounts of potting soil and allow for proper water drainage. Now, with those important measurements, I could select the correct size, decide on the look that would be most attractive with the décor, and would be best for the plant’s growth.
Our Heavenly Father has chosen each of us, His sons and daughters, to be vessels that will carry the treasure of His “grace,” “salt and light,” too, in the earth realm He knows our measurements, depth, and the material that, empowered by the Holy Spirit, will enable us to do “His will” and purpose in being “living witnesses” of Jesus Christ. So, let us examine ourselves to see if we are a chosen vessel of gold, silver, wood, or earth. Let us search the scriptures to align our lives accordingly and know that whatever the material, we are God’s chosen vessels of honor. Amen!
Prayer: Father, in the name of Jesus draw us into greater intimacy with You Lord, please bless us and keep us: Lord, make Your face shine upon us and be gracious unto us. Father, lift up your countenance upon us and grant us Your peace. We desire to obey You as we worship You in spirit and in truth Lord, by Your Holy Spirit, thank You for moving and revealing the truth to us! Amen.

The Lord Is Blessing and Keeping You
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26
The Aaronic blessing is the most beloved benediction in Scripture These blessings express God's heart toward His people Each phrase is rich with divine intention and personal care.
Pastor Riddick, “the Lord bless you and keep you.” This speaks of God’s provision and protection He is not distant nor indifferent He is the One who actively cares for His children, shielding them from harm and providing for their every need The greatest gift God has given you in these forty years is his Son, Jesus Christ. This is how much God loved the world, and how much He loves you, that He gave his Son to suffer His wrath and pay for your sins, that He could forgive you, save you and bring you to Himself.
Pastor Riddick, “the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you.” This evokes the image of God's favor and delight. His shining face is a sign of approval, much like a father beaming at his child His grace follows with unearned kindness and favors that flow freely from His love These blessings promise that God’s presence has been favorable as you have experienced over the last forty years. It reminds every servant of God that their work is not done in isolation but under the light of God’s face and with the support of His grace.
Pastor Riddick, “the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.” Here the Lord reveals God’s intimate attention and the deep peace only He can give. God is with you. Wherever you go and whatever your circumstances, you are never alone. God knows every detail of your life. When life feels uncertain, rest in the truth that God is watching over you, smiling upon you, and ready to give you His peace Continue to do as the psalmist declares in Psalm 37:4, “Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
Thank God for His continual protection and provision over your life and the accomplishments you have made The God that we serve will continually reveal His grace in your daily circumstances as He has done over these last 40 years.
Prayer: Pastor Riddick, we pray for the peace of God to continue to reign in your heart, your home, your church, your family and the numerous relationships that have been established When circumstances seem uncertain or promises feel delayed, the Word of God reminds us to hold fast. What God has said, He will do. Not one word of His has failed, and not one ever will. May God continually bless and keep you in perfect peace.

A Faithful Man
“A faithful man who can find” ~ Proverbs 20:6
This quote, or one similar to it, is often ascribed to Muhammed Ali: “You can judge a man by the way he treats someone who takes out the garbage and a famous man. If he treats both of them the same way, he is a great man.”
Bishop Riddick, there are many titles the world can give a man, but when heaven looks down and sees faithful, that is the highest honor You have walked faithfully before the Lord not for applause or for recognition, but because you love Jesus more thancomfort and youlove His people more than convenience. Your legacy is not just sermons or service; it is in lives changed. It is by the souls won to Jesus
I'm expressing my appreciation andgratitude for every kindwordand gesture you have shown through outstanding worship, every prayer you prayed, all the hands youheld, andtissues you gave to wipe our tears And how can I forget those sumptuous gourmet banquets and exquisite hotels?! Not to mention the powerful workshops thatallowedmetowitness firsthand you moving as a Proverbs 9:9 man of God.
Well done, Bishop Dwight Riddick, for your forty years laboring in loveforthe Kingdom of God! F.L.A.M.E. members are profoundly grateful to have you play so many vital roles in their lives without judging. We havefelt theloveof a father, shepherd, brother, andfriend who has spiritual wisdom and theability to move forward in the power of God Your work hasnot goneunnoticed, neither in heaven nor here onearth.
Prayer: For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you always and remembering you in my prayers Amen.

ASpiritual Dad
“To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;” ~ 2 Timothy 1:2-3
The contributions of spiritual mothers are frequently mentioned, but those of spiritual fathers are often understated Like theApostle Paul with Timothy, Bishop Riddick has been a spiritual father to many. Any number of us could put our names in the above scripture as one of his beloved sons or daughters. I know this is true for me.
Not only has Bishop been my pastor and mentor, he has also been my spiritual father. His impact on my life has been just significant as that of my biological father’s As Bishop grew spiritually, I also experienced spiritual growth He faithfully nurtured and poured into me during these past 40 years.
Like any good father, Bishop provides loving support, advice, encouragement, and yes, even correction when needed discipline that is always tempered with love. He prays for and with his spiritual children, asking God to bless and guide them He stands with them during life’s storms He genuinely cares for people but has a heart for pastors To me, the greatest benefit of a spiritual father-daughter or spiritual father-son relationship with Bishop is when we follow him as he follows Christ, we also experience greater intimacy in our personal relationships with the Lord Jesus and with God the Father.
I know I am not Bishop Riddick’s only spiritual offspring, but I am thankful the Lord allowed me to be one of the many.
Prayer: And Father God, how grateful we are for the life and living legacy of your servant, Bishop Dwight S. Riddick, Sr.! Thank You for all You poured into him from his mother’s womb until now Thank You for giving him a pastor’s heart as well as a heart for pastors O Lord, please continue blessing Bishop Thank You for being gracious to him, and giving him Your peace Thank you for blessing the work of his hands In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Leading With A Loving Heart
“And Whoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a Ransom for many.” ~ Matthew 20:27-28
Many of us have had leaders with good characteristics dedication, good communication skills, integrity, and the ability to motivate us, as well as being a hard worker just to mention a few However, some of us will readily admit that a leader who genuinely cares about us means a lot and helps to motivate us to work harder and achieve more. It is not easy having a leader who only cares about people who can produce work. Our individual needs are also important. For over 40 years at Gethsemane Baptist Church, we have been blessed to have Bishop Dwight S. Riddick, Sr as a dedicated and caring leader whose loving heart was also evident Let’s be clear Leading with a caring heart did not mean he was going to be easy on us Reflecting back, it seems that he was led, and continues to be led as the Holy Spirit leads, regarding what to do and say to help.
Through the years, and currently, we have been blessed to serve in various capacities under Bishop Riddick’s guidance and teaching. These opportunities opened the door to work closely with him He always seemed to know when to use tough love as well as when to make sure his loving heart was also evident. Because of how he continues to use his leadership skills with a loving heart, God continues to allow him to grow Gethsemane to be the Transformation Place that helps so many of us and develop effective ministry that helps to grow so many leaders and others to become aware of and then use their spiritual gifts effectively and appropriately.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we lift You up and praise Your Holy, mighty and precious name We thank You for being the awesome God that You are, being present in our lives all the time, caring for us, showing Your love, grace and mercy. At this special time, we are lifting up to You our leader, Bishop Dwight S. Riddick, Sr., and placing him in Your hands. We thank You for continuing to guide, love, and protect him Please continue to keep his leadership alive with his loving heart and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit We place this prayer in Your hands and consider it done according to Your will and Your way, in the name of Jesus Amen!

It’s AFaith Thing
“For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith.’” ~ Romans 1:17 (NIV) “You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.” ~ James 2:24 (NIV)
Several years ago, my wife and I moved to Newport News, Virginia. We were young adults trying to find our footing in life With the prompting of the Holy Spirit, we began visiting churches in the surrounding area. In 1993, a friend invited us to attend her church, Gethsemane Baptist Church (GBC). That Sunday, a young and charismatic man (Pastor Dwight Riddick) stepped into the pulpit and delivered a powerful word from the Lord. After just a few visits, my wife and I knew we had found our church home and became members
Over the years, I have had the distinct honor of sitting under the leadership of now Bishop Riddick. I can truly say he is a diligent student of the Word, faithfully preparing before every message to feed the flock God has entrusted to him. For Bishop Riddick, preaching is not only a calling but a clear passion. His unwavering desire to see lives transformed through God’s Word is evident in every sermon. Bishop, thank you for your steadfast commitment and obedience to God’s calling Speaking for myself, and I believe many others at GBC, your preaching has strengthened our faith. As Scripture reminds us, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17, KJV). While I’m grateful for the Word preached, I am especially thankful for the faith you have consistently lived out before us. As Romans 1:17 declares, “The righteous will live by faith” and Bishop, you have done just that.
Since joining GBC, I’ve often heard the story of a few faithful saints who stepped out on God’s vision. Under your leadership and unwavering trust in His promises, the first GBC sanctuary was erected on Chestnut Avenue in Newport News. In time, with that same visionary faith, our current sanctuary on RoanokeAvenue was brought to life. Through your obedience, faith and bold trust, you’ve taken care of God’s house and He, in turn, has taken care of yours. As James 2:24 reminds us, “You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.”And verse 26 continues, “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.” Bishop Riddick, your life is a testimony of living, working faith.
Thank you immensely for 40 years of stellar, faith-filled leadership!
Prayer: I pray God’s continued blessing upon you and your family May He grant you many more years of health, favor, and the desires of your heart

I'll Be There
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God I will strengthen you; I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” ~ Isaiah 41:10
Growing up, two songs that I remember most were “Reach Out ( I’ll Be There)” by the Four Tops, and “I’ll Be There” by The Jackson 5. Both songs featured potent and meaningful lyrics. Imagine how powerful these words are when you think on the goodness of God as we hear and say daily : “I will never leave nor forsake you” which is a promise found in the Bible Specifically, in Hebrews 13:5 and Deuteronomy 31:6, God reminds us He is always there God tells us to never be dismayed or worried as Joshua 1:9 reminds us, He is with us wherever we go. Just like God has been with GBC for 40 years, He has been there 40 years for Bishop and First Lady.
Bishop has consistently demonstrated steadfast commitment not only through preaching and teaching, but also by participating in significant life events from baby christenings and baptisms to marriages and transitions from childhood to adulthood. Bishop has provided visits, comfort, consolation, and support during homegoings, while serving as a voice and advocate for both our community and broader audiences. As the song says, “I'll reach out my hand to you, I’ll have faith in all you do, Just call his name” and Bishop will be there It’s so good to know that we have a man of God who we know will be there.
Prayer: Heavenly Father thank You for being an amazing omnipresent God. Thank You for GBC and Your shepherd who has guided us for 40 years. Continue to pour into him, keep him propped up, exhorted, and anointed with favor over his life while guiding him as he leads this branch of Zion Holy Spirit, continue to speak to Your servant as he preaches in season and out of season We thank You daily for Your grace and mercy and thank You for being our guiding light, our promise maker and way maker. We thank You for always being there and giving us a man of God who we know will be there.

A Word Is A Terrible Thing To Waste
“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as it fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” ~ Ephesians 4:29 (ESV)
During a recent Men's Bible Study at Living Faith Christian Center, we engaged in a passionate discussion. Tensions rose when one younger man raised his voice. It was tempting to react sharply as we’ve all had moments when we’ve wanted to “put someone in their place.” But instead, we witnessed something greater.
Our pastor, seasoned with wisdom, responded with grace. He didn’t retaliate or dismiss the young man’s feelings. He listened and responded with patience, understanding, and Christ-like love. It was a reminder of how we should carry ourselves as believers offering grace, even in tense moments.
What stood out wasn’t just the pastor’s calm, but the result. The young man, initially upset, was clearly moved. By the next day, he was sharing his testimony, reflecting on evidential transformation. The Holy Spirit had worked in him turning his angry words into a testimony of grace.
This reminds us of Proverbs 18:21: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue...” Words carry weight. In times of stress or disagreement, our speech can build or break. Ephesians 4:29 calls us to use words that uplift and reflect God’s grace. We’re to speak the truth, but in a way that fosters love and reconciliation.
Too often, we respond from pride especially in this digital age where texts and emails can breed misunderstanding. A mentor once told me, “Pause before you respond.” That advice has stayed with me. In moments of frustration, we must slow down and let the Holy Spirit guide our words. God desires that our words be seasoned with grace (Colossians 4:6), like Christ’s loving, purposeful, and never rushed. This takes prayer, fellowship, and daily practice. Through this, we grow to reflect Christ’s love.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to be mindful of our words. May we speak with grace, humility, and in love, reflecting You in every conversation. Teach us to pause, to listen, and to build others up especially in tense situations. Help us forgive quickly, speak slowly, and always share Your love. In Jesus' name, Amen.

AShepherd’s Heart - Honoring 40 Years of Faithfulness
“Then Jesus told them this parable: 'Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.’” ~ Luke 15:3-7 (NIV)
Celebrating 40 years of service is a testament to a shepherd’s heart one that is committed, compassionate, and diligent. Our Bishop’s journey mirrors the parable of the lost sheep. For four decades, he has been actively seeking the lost, caring for the weak, and rejoicing over every soul that finds its way back to God.
His dedication reflects the heart of our Lord, the Good Shepherd, who leaves the ninety-nine to find the one. This milestone reminds us that every individual matters deeply to God, and faithful servants like our Bishop are instruments through whom God’s love reaches the lost.
• Let us be inspired by his example to show compassion and persistence in our own walk of faith.
• May we appreciate the shepherding role our Bishop has fulfilled and continue to pray for his strength.
• Remember that every effort to bring others closer to Christ is valued in heaven, and heaven rejoices over each victory.
Prayer: O gracious and most wise God, we thank You for our Bishop’s 40 years of unwavering service and dedication. Like the shepherd in Jesus’ parable, he has sought after the lost, cared for the flock, and rejoiced in Your salvation. Bless him with renewed strength, wisdom, and joy as he continues to lead Your people. Help us all to follow his example of compassion and perseverance. May we always be mindful that each soul is precious to You, and that our efforts in Your kingdom bring great joy to heaven. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Love Is JustAWord
“And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.” ~ 1 Corinthians 13:13
Heartbroken. Hollow. Empty. Lost. Fed up. Angry.
In just three years, I lost both of my grandfathers and now, my grandmother. The reality hit hard: I no longer have grandparents whose wisdom shaped me, whose laughter brightened my darkest days, whose hugs reminded me I was deeply loved. Their absence left a silence so loud, it made me question everything.
But I knew deep down that's not what they would have wanted for me. What I did know was this: they had a fierce unwavering faith. They didn’t just talk about it. They lived it. They showed it. And that truth began to steady me.
I slowly started to find my footing again, remembering who I am, and who they helped raise me to be. Their legacy of faith became my anchor. And through it all, I felt a gentle pull back to what I’ve always known, even when the world around me seemed to crumble.
God never left. He was there in every tear, in every moment of pain and He still loves me. Real love doesn’t run when things fall apart. It endures. It becomes stronger It invites us to act not from bitterness, but from a heart rooted in truth.
Prayer: Lord, help us to remain grateful, even in life’s cruelest moments. When sorrow is loud and hope feels distant, remind us that Your love never wavers. In every heartbreak, You offer healing. In every fall, forgiveness. May we never forget true love Your love never changes.

Be Intentional: Living On Purpose
“I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
~ Philippians 3:14
Living on purpose begins with being intentional. In a culture driven by convenience, distraction, and busyness, it’s easy to drift through life without clear direction. But God calls us to live with purpose to set our focus on Him and move forward with deliberate faith.
Paul, writing from a place of imprisonment, reminds us in Philippians 3:14 that pressing toward the mark requires effort, vision, and discipline. He wasn’t satisfied with simply having a good start; he aimed for a faithful finish. That’s what it means to be intentional choosing daily to walk in God’s will even when it’s difficult, uncomfortable, or unclear.
Being intentional means waking up with purpose, praying with purpose, serving with purpose, and loving with purpose. It’s about refusing to waste the gift of life and using every moment to glorify God.
You were not created to just go through the motions. You were created to make moves that matter for the Kingdom, for your calling, and for your community.
Prayer: Lord, help me today to be intentional in my thoughts, actions, and choices Give me clarity in my calling and strength to press forward even when life feels uncertain. Remind me that I was created on purpose, with purpose, and for Your purpose. Let my life bring You glory in all I do In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Peace: Stay Focused
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” ~ Isaiah 26:3
Today, I urge you to fix your mind on God, look on the things that are above and not beneath. True peace comes when we choose not to focus on our trials, tribulations, calamities, mishaps or our tragedies Let us remain perspicacious, sagacious, and discerning, for the enemy thrives in confusion and clouded vision But when our hearts and minds stay anchored in truth we begin to see clearly. God is still in control.
Isaiah reminds us of a powerful promise and a condition. Perfect peace is found when our minds are stayed, fixed and focused on God because we trust Him. To be stayed means to lean on, to rest in, and to remain firmly grounded So, continue to look toward the hills which cometh your help knowing that all of your help comes from the Lord who created the heavens and the earth.
Stay focused, like a compass fixed on true north. Our thoughts should continually return to God’s character, His word and His presence. Begin each day in prayer and His word. And when distractions arrive, we must cast down every imagination and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.
Peace isn’t just about occupying your thoughts; it’s rooted in who you trust. Trust means surrendering control, releasing anxiety, and resting in God’s wisdom. True peace cannot survive in a restless mind; it flourishes when our focus is fixed on God. God speaks best when we are still and quiet. Stay focused and continue in peace by fixing your thoughts on God and trusting Him.
Prayer: God, help me to keep my mind fixed on You, so that I may remain in your perfect peace The peace that surpasses all understanding. Thank You for hearing my cry. Strengthen me to stay focused, and teach me to trust You when I cannot trace You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Wait On the Lord
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. ” ~ Isaiah: 40:31
I extend my gratitude and commendation to Bishop Dwight Riddick for his exceptional leadership. Over the past 40 years, numerous individuals have come to know salvation and be strengthened on their spiritual journey through his guidance, sermons, teachings, wisdom, knowledge, vision, and prayers. God is faithful and His word is true.
Isaiah 40:31 is one of the scriptures that has encouraged me during trials, tribulations, and the struggles of life. I posted this scripture in my work area, in my home, my car, and in my heart. I developed the faith that no matter what situation I encountered God, will see me through. God gives us hope to succumb to His timing and not ours. His timing increases our faith, trust, and renews our strength. We will mount up as eagles after we have suffered, are strengthened and our vision becomes clearer. God gives us confidence, resilience, and lack of fear of making independent decisions. His renewed strength enables us to run and not be weary, to walk and not faint. While you are waiting, have faith. Trust and obey God. He never fails. His promises are true. Seek God’s guidance in the Word and prayer. God is drawing us closer to Himself, and we are never alone.
Jeremiah 29:11 assures of God’s promises during each season of life. “For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Trust in God to renew your strength and help you soar like an eagle. He knows what is best for us.
Prayer: We give glory and praise to God for 40 years of ministry. Renew, restore, and refresh Bishop Riddick and all readers. God, may we seek, trust, and wait on You during every season of our lives. Forgive us for our sins and each time we have not waited for Your guidance. You are so faithful. Thank You for keeping us, loving us, giving us peace, and hope in every situation. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen!

It Will Be GoodAgain
“I will extol thee, O Lord; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me. O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me… Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” ~ Psalm 30: 1-5
Society often makes us believe our struggles and failures are permanent. We sometimes think illnesses and diseases are the end. People tend to compare their situations to others who have suffered, leading to a sense of despair. But there is evidence that life can improve. By not relying on others or systems, we can declare things will get better. Acknowledging past difficulties is necessary to see future improvements. Even when perseverance seems insufficient and the situation feels overwhelming, remember, as the psalmist King David said, it will be good again.
God Provides Restoration. Just as a broken vessel can be mended, God has the power to restore what has been lost or damaged in your life. Whether it be physical, emotional, or spiritual, God can provide restoration.
God Does More Than You Ever Requested. Often, in our limited understanding, we ask for small things. The Bible teaches that God’s generosity and power far exceeds our requests and expectations, providing blessings we couldn’t even imagine.
God Performs Resurrection. This concept isn’t just about rising from the dead; it’s about a complete transformation from despair to renewed vitality. It signifies God’s ability to bring new life, hope, and purpose to situations that seem dead or beyond repair.
Rejoice: Even amid trials, the Bible encourages us to rejoice. Find reasons to be grateful and joyful, even when circumstances are difficult. Rejoicing shifts your perspective and strengthens your spirit.
Prayer: Most wise and all-knowing God, we come to You in the name of Jesus The Christ thanking You for making this life good again. Thank You for restoring my steps and my soul. Thank You for pulling me up from those low places that appeared to be endless. Thank You for how You have kept us down through the years and even through those moments that seemed impossible to bounce back from Thank You! Thank You for not allowing us to forget who You are and who we are to and in You. We declare that we win, and life will continue to be good in Jesus’ name! Amen.
So, know that life with God makes it good again!

Outside Power For Internal Help
“From Issachar, men who understood the times and knew what Israel should do…” ~ I Chronicles 12:32 ( NIV)
Decisions! Decisions! Decisions! That is what a life dedicated to the call of God to serve people looks like when a servant leader leads, while desiring to hear from God first. Drawing inspiration from 1 Chronicles 12:32, which speaks of the sons of Issachar who understood the times and knew what Israel should do highlights the ability to discern the current situation and times in which we live as life unfolds itself.
In a world that is filled with transition, changes and cultural shifts during these past four decades, a leader in these apparent times has to be consistent in demonstrating the power and influence of God. It requires an outside power to provide insight and vision to lead God's people to their destiny and to equip them for the transition that leads to transformation. Leadership not only addresses the immediate needs of our community but also fosters a sense of hope and empowerment among those we serve. The Holy Spirit equips us with that internal help. In every initiative that we (the church) undertake, we embody the Spirit of compassion and selflessness, showing that the cause is greater than us. This is what our Lord meant when speaking to his disciples that the kingdom of God is at hand. Bishop Dwight S. Riddick, through your sensitivity and discernment in understanding the times and knowing what GBC and F.L.A.M.E. should do, you have ignited change and brought people together, creating a ripple effect of love kindness and support. You are a constant reminder that even small acts of service can lead to significant transformations in the lives of individuals and the community as a whole.
Your extraordinary leadership as God’s undershepherd has exemplified the wisdom and discernment needed to navigate your entrusted sheep as well your own family with unwavering commitment through both joyful and difficult moments.
Prayer: Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth In Jesus’ name, amen.

Are You Looking For A Man With A Shepherd’s Heart?
He’s At Gethsemane…The Transformation Place
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” ~ Proverbs 3:5-6
Our senior pastor, Bishop Dwight S. Riddick, Sr., can be seen throughout the Book of Proverbs. As we see, he has embraced a life learned and lived by the Word shared in those passages. For Proverbs teaches us to have faith and trust in the Lord Our God. Our Bishop stands firm as a witness to the Lord’s mighty works. He simply trusts in the Lord with all his heart, and does not lean to his own understanding; he acknowledges the Lord in that all he does.
Bishop’s life has been a testimony to the Word of Our God, through the greatest of times, uncertainties, and despair. He has been faithful. He remains true to the writings in the Bible. He walks with the Lord and spread God’s teachings with unwavering strength and boldness for he knows the Lord’s word is Truth.
As a testament, I remember 40 years ago Bishop shared with the congregation that the Lord would supply all our needs. Atestament, yet a statement that caused some to wonder because we thought we could believe only what we could see or if I must say, do ourselves (where was our faith)…Bishop took something so profound to have us experience God…no longer were we seeking financial assistance by selling dinners and recycling aluminum cans, but leaning and depending on God as He made and continues to make a way for us. Just lean on Him. Call on Him.
Bishop continues to preach/teach that same faith and belief in the Lord our God today. Just take a moment and think back to a time when you let go and let God!
Bishop’s anointing continues to show through his compassion for the Word, his humble spirit, and his encouragement to others
Prayer: Dear Father, You have blessed us with a shepherd after Your own heart for 40 glorious years. He genuinely cares for his sheep, the children which You have entrusted to him. Lord, continue to bless his walk as he, his family and people travel this journey with You. Renew his spirit as he awakens to new revelations. And empower him with Your love so much so that when others see and hear about him, they are astonished by all You have done and yet have in store for him, for He loves You! We love You and we love him. O God, Our Father, thank You! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Bishop Riddick,AServant Leader
“Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” ~ Matthew 20:26–28 (NIV)
I have been a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church for 30 years, and during that time I have witnessed Bishop Riddick exemplify what it means to be a true servant leader. His unwavering dedication to the call of ministry and his passion for living out our church's mission with excellence has left an indelible mark on my life and the lives of so many others. He demonstrates the love of Jesus Christ to families throughout Hampton Roads and beyond, not just in word, but in action.
Bishop Riddick’s humility, integrity, and ability to balance family, community responsibility, and nationally recognized leadership roles all while remaining present and accessible to his congregation is nothing short of remarkable. He truly practices what he preaches.
Over the years, I have been blessed by his powerful sermons, which have brought healing, conviction, and transformation to my life through various seasons. My relationship with Christ has deepened because of his faithful teaching whether in Bible study, leadership training, or Sunday worship. I am also grateful for how he encourages members to use their spiritual gifts in service to the Kingdom, fostering both personal growth and a stronger connection to Christ.
Bishop Riddick, I thank you sincerely for your 40 years of servant leadership. Your ministry has impacted my life and the lives of thousands. May God continue to bless you abundantly.
Prayer: Father, I thank You for Bishop Riddick and for the gifts You have placed in him to enrich the Body of Christ. As Jabez cried out to You, I pray the same for him: Lord, bless him indeed and enlarge his territory. Let Your hand be with him and keep him from evil, so that he will be free from pain (1 Chronicles 4:10, NIV) ” In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Choose Ye Well
“…If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. A bishop then must be blameless…apt to teach…but patient, … One that ruleth well his own house… (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)”
~ 1 Timothy 3:1-5
Living in today’s world is quite different from yesteryear. The values and teachings that were received several decades ago have been turned around and tossed upside down; what was good is now wrong and vice versa.
Corruption and unholy practices have also crept into many churches. One must stay alert and be committed to Bible study and daily prayer; especially when searching for an overseer.
The Christian’s book of rules and regulations is the Bible. Scripture in 1Timothy 3:1-5 sets forth the guidelines to be used when seeking a bishop (overseer).
I can honestly say that I have found a church whose overseer meets the biblical qualifications of a bishop. Can you?
Choose ye well!
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to always be mindful that in order to enjoy wholesome, spirit-filled living in this world, we must seek You first and allow You to guide us in all that we do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Take Inventory
“When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.” ~ Proverbs 16: (HCSB) 7
Inventory. We usually associate an inventory with things like material goods, dollars and cents, and food. How often do we inventory our lifestyle and what it produces? On the surface, nice clothes, fancy cars, and big homes are appealing but, more importantly, do you prioritize pursuing the things of God? For example, loving neighbor as self, presenting your body as a living sacrifice to God, stewarding your family, and giving God a return on investment by using your spiritual gifts? If the answer is no, your ways may not please God.
To ensure that your ways please the Lord, take inventory of the traits with which you clothe yourself daily. Colossians 3:12-15 outlines the attire: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, accepting others, forgiving since you are forgiven, love, peace that rules your heart, and thanksgiving. When you don’t get fully dressed, you remain exposed to fiery darts the enemy sends your way. But when you clothe yourself with Christlike character, you’ll be empowered to bear the fruit of the Spirit.
Bearing good fruit is vital for followers of Christ, especially for those of us in leadership. Some people will provoke you to act out of character. But thanks be to God for His Spirit who will bridle your tongue, enable you to respond graciously, and command silence when that’s the best way for God to still get glory. There’s something about consistently yielding to the Holy Spirit that builds street credit with allies and enemies.
That brings me to the crux of the text. Solomon teaches that when an enemy encounters godly character repeatedly from you, that enemy is compelled to stand down and be at peace with you. Why? Because exemplifying the image and likeness of God is a catalyst for behavior modification. Modeling Christlike character halts the assault of enemies when they recognize that you will not react to their carnal ways in kind. Remember, when you submit to God and resist the devil, he will flee (James 4:7).
What have you not yet submitted to God that keeps you exposed to the same enemy, with the same darts, that penetrate you? Take inventory so you can confess, repent, get fully dressed daily and bear good fruit consistently. Show your enemy what being a peacemaker looks and sounds like. And watch that enemy start to be at peace with you.
Prayer: Father, in Jesus’ name. I recommit to a lifestyle that honors you. I submit to you and invite your Spirit to help me resist the devil. As long as my ways please you, my enemies will be at peace with me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.” ~ Psalm 37:23
Over 30 years ago, I met Bishop Dwight S. Riddick, Sr. when he served as a counselor for me. Since that time, he has not only stood as a preacher of power and principle, but as a ‘purpose pusher’ in my life and the lives of so many others divinely connected to him. To say he is a spiritual father, teacher, and mentor is only scratching the surface for truly, Bishop has been a General of the Gospel, a man of valor, a Kingdom architect whose very presence aligns people with destiny. My late parents Bishop Charles “Chuck” Patterson and Overseer Pastor Clara Patterson deeply admired, respected, and revered Bishop Riddick. Not just for his preaching prowess or his organizational brilliance, but because they recognized the anointing of a man wholly submitted to the voice and vision of God They saw in him what I now see more clearly than ever: a trailblazer committed to building people, not just platforms. After my parents my pastors transitioned just 18 months apart, I found myself in need of a pastoral and spiritual mentor. Bishop Riddick has served as a divine compass for me, especially in seasons of uncertainty, leadership, and transition. Whether it was his thunderous declarations from the pulpit, his wise counsel in private settings, or simply the strength of his consistency, he has exemplified the walk of a righteous man whose steps have undeniably been ordered by the Lord He embodies what F.L.A.M.E. stands for fellowship, leadership, accountability, mentorship, and excellence. Through his vision, I’ve found not just covering, but community. Through his mentorship, I’ve found not just guidance, but grace. Through his unwavering commitment to the call of God, I’ve found an example that reminds me daily that yes, we can thrive in ministry and in life because of the God we serve and the leaders He places among us.
Prayer: Gracious and Almighty God, We honor You for the life and leadership of Bishop Dwight S. Riddick, Sr. Your faithful servant and Your anointed vessel. Thank You for the oil that flows from his life breaking yokes, aligning destinies, and igniting purpose. Strengthen him afresh, renew his spirit, and enlarge his territory Let his voice echo with apostolic clarity, and may his legacy continue through every life he's mentored and every soul he's led Cover Lady Vera and their family with peace and divine favor. May Bishop's latter be even greater than his former. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

Refreshed for the Next Assignment
“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” ~ Luke 5:16 (NIV)
Bishop Riddick, as you celebrate 40 years of ministry, I reflect not only on your longevity but on the power and presence of your leadership. You have been a spiritual father, a wise mentor, and a healing balm to so many. Your ministry has stretched far beyond the pulpit; it has touched lives, lifted burdens, and mended hearts.
When my father, the late Rev. Clyde L. Doxey Jr., asked you to ordain me, you didn’t just confirm a calling you stepped into a generational moment. Since then, you’ve continued to stand with me. And when grief came knocking on the doors of my family and New Covenant Fellowship Baptist Church, you were there. Not just as a preacher, but as a presence. A comforter A healer.
This reminds me of the moment in Luke 5 when Jesus healed a man with leprosy. After this powerful miracle, Scripture says, “Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” The healing came, but it took something out of Him. And even Jesus the Son of God knew the importance of rest and renewal to continue His assignment.
Like Jesus, you have been used to heal, not just physical wounds, but emotional and spiritual ones. Families have found peace through your counsel. Churches have found clarity through your wisdom. My family has been restored, strengthened, and encouraged because of your obedience to God.
Now, as you celebrate this mighty milestone, I pray that you take time to rest, to reflect, and to be refreshed for the next assignment Just as Jesus withdrew to pray after healing the broken, I pray you find sacred spaces to be filled again. Your best days aren’t behind you they are waiting for you, renewed by God’s power and sustained by His grace.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the life and legacy of Bishop Riddick. As he has been a healer and helper to so many, including my own family, now be a healer to him Give him rest, strength, and vision for what lies ahead Let him feel Your presence in every quiet place In Jesus’ name, amen.

The Steps Of A Leader
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.”
~ Psalm 37:23
The understanding of ‘steps’in the spiritual and practical journey of a leader is to follow God’s plan and purpose for life.
Today we honor and reflect not just on the title of ‘bishop,’but on the path that you, Bishop Dwight S. Riddick, Sr., walk because you have taken steps God-ordered steps one at a time. And each step you took left footprints for your followers.
Steps represent direction. Astep is not random; it has a goal. Every decision you make as a leader determines your direction, the direction of the church, and the local and national communities.
Steps are intentional. This means walking in deliberate movement. The steps of a leader choose patience over anger, love over pride and truth over comfort.
Aleader’s steps are sequential. You do not get to the destination in one leap. It is a faithful walk, day-by-day, praying and focusing on life’s lessons. Aleader who follows Christ walks by faith, not by sight. Faith is not just going to church; it is showing others how to trust God in challenging times. Aleader who lives with integrity builds a community of trust.
God bless you Bishop, your family, and the Gethsemane Baptist Church family.
Prayer: Dear God, we, the New Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, and our community are grateful and blessed because Bishop Riddick allowed You to use him as a leader. His obedience to Your Word reflects Jesus as He spoke to Peter in John 21:16 “......feed my sheep.” Amen.

Thank God for Grace
“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness…” ~ 2 Corinthians 12:9
It can be easy to look at someone’s life from the outside and think they are aware of the presence of God all the days of their lives. Sometimes, we look at the millionaire and are led to believe because they have wealth, they are aware of the presence of God every day We even look at the doctor or the lawyer and assume that because they have treasured careers, they are aware of the presence of God daily. We might look at the professional athlete and presume because they have privilege and spotlight, they too are fully aware of the presence of God on an everyday basis. The truth is you can have wealth, a treasured career and shine and still not be aware of God’s presence, particularly when the challenges of life come.
It was no different for theApostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 12 This is the same Paul who was highly credentialed. This is the same Paul who claimed –“Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless” (Philippians 3:4-6) Yet here we find Paul with a thorn in his flesh an illness, a challenge, or a circumstance that has claimed his attention. Paul cried out to God three times, and it appeared God did not answer his cry.
But God did answer. Not by solving Paul’s problem. Not by taking his pain away. Not by removing him from the circumstance or the circumstance from him Not by touching his body or healing him No, God did not respond in any of those ways So, how did God respond you ask? God responded with grace, telling Paul “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength [power] is made perfect in weakness…” (2 Corinthians 12:9) Grace, that unmerited favor of God that grants us what we do not deserve. Grace, that privilege that gives us access to God’s presence in our hour of need. God may not always deliver us from what troubles us, but He always makes available to us His grace, which is sufficient for every challenge And for that, we thank God for grace!!
Prayer: Our Father and our strong God, You promised You would never leave us or forsake us. Thank You for being a God of Your Word. You did not promise to always remove from us what ails us, but we forever have the promise of Your presence by Your grace. Lord, thank You!

Celebrating 40 Years of Transformative and Stellar Leadership
“Dear brothers and sisters, honor those who are your leaders in the Lord’s work. They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance. Show them great respect and wholehearted love because of their work. And live peacefully with each other.”
~ 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 (NLT)
Bishop, we thank God for four decades of extraordinary pastoral leadership. You have poured your life into our church and community, embodying the heart of a shepherd, the vision of a leader, and the faithfulness of God’s servant. God’s word in Jeremiah 3:15 (NLT) says “And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will guide you with knowledge and understanding.” God sent you to fulfill His word and purpose for not only Gethsemane Baptist Church but for so many more in Hampton Roads and beyond.
Your journey has been impactful and influential. Through your powerful preaching, tireless teaching, and continual commitment to spiritual growth, you have nurtured generations, guided families, and led countless souls to Christ. Your impact and influence have reached so many others, including fellow pastors and preachers around this country, which has resulted in the establishment of Fostering Leadership and Ministry Excellence (F.LA.M.E.) Many spiritual and community initiatives have flourished under your guidance and direction, with each becoming a beacon of hope, transformation, and excellence. Your legacy is built on the foundation of integrity, innovation, and an inclusive love that reflects the heart of Christ. You have taught us the Word, but you have displayed for us how to live the Word with courage, compassion, and character.
As I reflect upon your many accomplishments, God honors you because you honor Him, and His hand has been upon you throughout your life. For your 40 years of service with love, leadership, and legacy, I celebrate and honor you and am grateful to God for you. May God continue to bless you beyond measure for years to come.
Prayer: Gracious God Our Father, I come before You today with a heart full of thanksgiving and reverence as we celebrate the 40th pastoral anniversary of Your faithful servant, Bishop Dwight S. Riddick Sr. Thank You for calling him, equipping him, and sustaining him through four decades of steadfast leadership, transformative vision, and unwavering love for Your people. Thank You for sending him our way. I now ask for Your continued favor to be upon him, to strengthen him, and keep him in Your tender care. Restore unto him everything that he has poured out. Bless Lady Riddick as she has stood beside him every step of the way. This is my prayer in the only name that matters, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Known By the Fruit
“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.” ~ Matthew 7:15–20 (NIV)
As you reflect on the road behind you and look with faith toward what is still ahead, may you be encouraged by these powerful words of Jesus. In a world filled with confusion and competing voices, your life and ministry have stood as a clear witness to the truth not because of loud proclamations alone, but because of the fruit your life has produced. Jesus teaches us that true spiritual authenticity is not found in appearances or accolades, but in fruit fruit that blesses others, fruit that multiplies, and fruit that endures.
The fruit of your labor is evident in the countless pastors you have inspired, mentored, and empowered. Some have stood behind pulpits with renewed courage because of your counsel. Others have walked more faithfully because of your example. Many have believed they, too, could be used by God because they saw God at work in you.
This passage also reminds us that good trees do not struggle to prove what they are; they simply grow what is natural to them. Bishop, your life bears the unmistakable signs of a tree rooted in Christ: love, truth, humility, integrity, and perseverance. These are not the works of man’s effort, but the overflow of a heart grounded in the Gospel.
As those you have poured into continue their own ministries, your fruit lives on in them. And though you may not see the full harvest, heaven surely rejoices over the legacy you have sown.
May you continue to flourish, not because you chase recognition, but because you remain faithful to the One who planted you.
Prayer: Gracious and Eternal God, we thank You for Your servant, a shepherd who has not only tended the flock but has nurtured other shepherds. Thank You for the fruit of faith, wisdom, and love that has blossomed through his ministry. Strengthen him for the journey ahead, and let his roots grow ever deeper in Your truth. May the seeds he has planted continue to grow in the lives of others, bearing good fruit for generations to come. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Shepherd Who Gets God’s Attention
“This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. Noah did everything just as God commanded him.” ~ Genesis 6:9, 22 (NIV)
In a world filled with corruption and violence, one man stood out and became God’ s instrument of salvation. Noah wasn’t perfect, but he possessed three qualities that caught God’ s eye.
He Walked with God. Noah maintained a steady, daily relationship with the Lord, not just in crisis, but consistently. Walking suggests faithful rhythm, not spurts of devotion. His integrity held firm on Monday just as it did on Sunday, in private and in public. Likewise, a faithful pastor carries the same character from pulpit to hospital bedside, boardroom to grocery store. This consistency reassures the congregation, providing spiritual stability.
He Worked for God. Without ever seeing rain, Noah spent nearly 100 years building an ark by God’ s design. Though mocked and misunderstood, he labored on, knowing the work was sacred creating safety for those under his care. Pastoral work often mirrors this. Through preaching, counseling, hospital visits, and countless hours of prayer, pastors build spiritual arks that protect people during life’s storms.
He Witnessed for God. When the flood came, Noah didn’t have to convince his family to enter the ark they had seen his obedience firsthand. A pastor’s most powerful sermon isn’t preached, but lived. When members see authentic faith through trials, love for God’s Word, and a heart for the lost, they’re drawn not by persuasion but by example. True witness is observed day after day, year after year.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of pastoral leadership. Thank You for a shepherd who walks faithfully with You through seasons of blessing and trial. We re grateful for a life of consistency that gives us confidence to follow. May we always find safety in the ark of faith and love being built among us. In Jesus name. Amen.

Be Still
“Be still, and know that I am God:…” ~ Psalm 46:10
Many believe this psalm was written during a time of national distress. How fitting it is to examine this passage today given the world’s current state of affairs. As ministers of the Gospel, it is easy to become overwhelmed with serving others facing much uncertainty. In this fastpaced technological age, we all tend to lead busy lives making it easy to become distracted. We spread ourselves thinly over the many tasks we busy ourselves with from day to day.
It has been said that B.U.S.Y can mean: Being Under Satan’s Yoke. Therefore, we must be on guard and not be busy, being busy. If we are not careful, we can let the devil trick us into being so busy doing good such as ministry, entrepreneurship, planning, managing, and overseeing that, if we are not careful, we can neglect the most important things such as devotion, prayer, and time with our own family.
I encourage you to let go of your ‘to-do’list and cramped schedule long enough to sit in silence and meditate on God's goodness. Allow yourself the time to be still, reflect on God’s sovereignty, and be renewed in spirit. This stillness invites us to trust in His perfect plan and to recognize His presence in our lives, even amid chaos.
Prayer: Dear gracious and Heavenly Father, thank You for moments of silence, for the time I can shut out the noise and just listen to the Spirit. Listening to You ministers peace to my inward man, renews my strength, and affirms my assignments. Grant me wisdom to prioritize what is significant, knowing that everything that is urgent is not always important. Protect my mind from anxiety and anoint me for purpose. I thank You for speaking to me in the silence and for strengthening me while I am still. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.

HeartOn Fire
“And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?”
~ Luke 24:32
It was a sunny autumn day in Newport News, VA. I was on my way to a 3:00 o’clock appointment. I got into my car, but it would not start. Disturbed by this situation, I panicked a little I only had 40 minutes to get to my appointment. Fortunately, AAA Roadside Assistance® did not take long getting to my location. I explained my situation to the service attendant. After looking under the hood, he exclaimed with a chuckle that my cables were loose, and he went to his truck for a socket wrench. When he returned, he tightened it up and said, “Fire it up!” It turns out that the hot wire was not fully connected. I was not getting enough power.
As I reflected on this, the Holy Spirit reminded me why it is essential for us to stay connected to our Power Source, Jesus You see, an authentic encounter with Jesus will always ignite a deep spiritual fervor within us, a passion that cannot be contained. Jesus encounters will fire us up!
Igniting or reigniting the flame. Just as Jesus opened the Scriptures to the disciples on the road to Emmaus, the Word of God ignites and sustains a heart that’s on fire for Him. Spending quality time in His presence and giving Him time to speak is crucial to maintaining a passionate love and desire for Him.
Spreading the fire. Aheart ablaze always motivates one to seek a deeper relationship with Jesus, and share His transformative power and love with others. Just like the Emmaus disciples.
Food for thought:
1. How do you stay connected to your power source?
2. What new ways are you finding to connect with Christ to keep your heart on fire?
How to keep your heart on fire:
1. Abide in Jesus to stay connected. (John 15:1-15)
2. Exhort other believers to stay committed. (Hebrews 3:12-13)
3. Humble yourself to stay centered. (James 4:10)
Prayer: Father God, as we commemorate Bishop Riddick’s 40 years of Kingdom service, thank You for giving him a heart that’s on fire for You! May Holy Ghost fire burn ever brighter and hotter within him, for Your glory and the benefit of others In Jesus’s name I pray, amen.

IAm Going to Finish the Work
“But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.” ~Acts 20:24 (NLT)
Bishop Riddick,
As we celebrate 40 years of your unwavering leadership, we are reminded of theApostle Paul’s words inActs 20:24, a verse that mirrors the very essence of your ministry. You have not counted your life as your own but have poured it out in service to the Lord and His people. Through seasons of joy and challenge, your aim has remained singular: to finish the race and complete the task of proclaiming the good news of God’s grace.
Your journey has not been one of ease, but of endurance. Like Paul, you have faced trials, yet you pressed on not for applause, but for the approval of the One who called you. You have shepherded with wisdom, preached with power, and led with integrity. The fruit of your labor is evident in the lives transformed, the souls saved, and the legacy of faith you have cultivated.
Encouragement
for the Next Leg of the Race
As you stand at this 40-year milestone, know that your race is not yet finished. There are still chapters to be written, sermons to be preached, and lives to be touched. The same grace that carried you through the past four decades will sustain you in the days ahead.
Be encouraged, Bishop, your labor is not in vain. Heaven rejoices over your faithfulness, and we, your people, rise to honor you. May the Lord continue to strengthen your hands, renew your spirit, and enlarge your territory.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Bishop Dwight S. Riddick, Sr. Thank You for 40 years of steadfast service and sacrifice. As he continues to run the race, may Your grace abound even more. Let his latter days be greater than the former, and may his life continue to testify of Your goodness and glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

APastorAfter God’s Own Heart
“And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.” ~ Jeremiah 3:15
Forty years ago, God looked upon His people and responded with compassion by raising up a shepherd, a servant, a leader one after His own heart. In Bishop Dwight Riddick, we have seen this scripture come to life. Through seasons of joy and challenge, growth and grace, God has used this vessel to feed His flock not only with knowledge, but with understanding, wisdom, and unwavering love.
Jeremiah 3:15 reminds us that true pastors are not self-appointed, but heaven-sent. Their calling is divine, their message eternal, and their ministry rooted in compassion and truth. Pastor Riddick has walked in this divine assignment faithfully, preaching the Word, standing in the gap, visiting the sick, baptizing the saved, marrying the committed, and burying the beloved all while leading with humility and grace.
In a world that constantly shifts, we thank God for the steadfastness of a leader who has been consistent in service, bold in truth, and rich in compassion. Aleader who has helped shape lives, build families, strengthen faith, and prepare souls for eternity.
As we celebrate this 40-year milestone, we do more than honor longevity we honor legacy. We give thanks for the seeds sown, the prayers prayed, the battles fought, and the souls won. And with great expectation, we look forward to what God will continue to do through this faithful servant.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Bishop Riddick, a shepherd after Your own heart. Thank You for 40 years of faithfulness, love, and leadership. May Your continued grace strengthen and sustain him and Lady Vera for the journey ahead. Let their legacy be a living testimony of Your goodness, and may their labor never be in vain. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Remember That God Remembers
“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” ~ Hebrews 6 :10 (NIV)
When I hear this Bible verse it reminds me of the song, “Let the Works I’ve Done Speak For Me.” This scripture declares that God sees everything and rewards mankind according to their works.
I can recall over 28 years ago when a close friend of mine referred me to the Gethsemane Baptist Church’s Daycare Center for our two and half-year-old son. It was such a blessing on so many different levels. I recall going to church to worship soon after our son started attending daycare. I can honestly say hearing Bishop Riddick preach was so relevant to my life. It was as though he was preaching directly to me. It continues to be that way even now.
I am so thankful of how God gives him the Word, how he delivers the Word and how he makes his sermons so relatable to our lives. He preaches in such a way that his sermons are very plain for God’s people to understand and follow, as well as to go out into the world and be doers of the Word. It is quite evident he spends time with God in preparing his sermons.
I give my heartfelt thanks for the unwavering love and support Bishop has shown to our family throughout the years. He has been a great support when our parents died; visited me when I was in the hospital in ICU; prayed for us on the phone when tragedy struck our family; and traveled out of state to attend my father’s viewing.
Payer: Dear God, I come boldly before You, thanking You for our servant leader, Bishop Dwight Riddick. I want to thank You God for seeing fit to place him in Gethsemane Baptist Church some 39 years ago. Thank You God for giving him a mighty Word each and every Sunday to bring to these Your people. Thank You for opening up his mind to make the Word plain for Your people to understand and to become not just hearers of the Word, but also doers of Your Word. Thank You God for giving him a heart and love for these Your people. I pray that as Bishop Riddick pours into us, that You will pour threefold back into him. It is Jesus’ name that I do pray. Amen.

ATrue Champion
“…David said to Saul, ‘Let no man’s heart fail on account of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.’ David said, ‘The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine David said to Saul, ‘I cannot go with these, for I have not tested them.’ And David took them off...”
~ 1 Samuel 17:31-40 (NASB 1995)
As that gargantuan Goliath stood and taunted the Israelites, they were absolutely petrified. For 40 days this giant stood boasting, daring any competitor to step forward to face him in combat. Massive in stature and donning equally impressive armor, the Philistine champion outright defied the ranks of Israel.
No one was willing to face Goliath. That is, until one day David at the command of his father Jesse, delivered supplies to his brothers and overheard the giant’s verbal assaults Unafraid, the young shepherd demonstrated the heart of a true champion and accepted Goliath’s challenge. Here’s how.
David was Willing to Fight (v. 32). David was willing to fight. At the core of every true champion is a willingness to engage, a willingness to depart from the sidelines of spectatorship and enter the fray of combat. Bishop, for 40 years you have demonstrated a willingness to fight, and we, the Gethsemane family, are the better for it.
David Trusted in the Lord (vv. 34-37). David assured Saul that just as the Lord had delivered him from the paw of the lion and bear, He would also deliver Goliath into his hands. One key component in the DNAof a true champion is his or her steadfast trust in the Lord.
When facing Goliath-sized tasks and obstacles, trusting the Lord is paramount to producing the desired outcome. You, sir, have modeled trust in the Lord as you have led the Gethsemane Church.
David Did It His Way (vv. 38-40). Saul clothed David with his garments but realizing they were not a good fit, David declined as every true champion must find and utilize what works for him or her. Your method, armor, and approach may differ from others and that is okay.
True champions are often originals and Bishop, you have forged a path of ministry excellence through authenticity and doing things your way, and for these reasons we boldly make the declaration that you are a true champion. Job well done!
Prayer: Lord, thank You for being our Hope, Help, and Strength Thank You for reminding Bishop Riddick and us that nothing is too hard for You. That with You for us, no one and nothing can prevail against us! In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

When the Journey Continues
“Before long all the tribes of Israel approached David in Hebron and said, ‘…In time past when Saul was our king, you were the one who really ran the country. Even then God said to you, ‘You will shepherd my people Israel and you’ll be the prince.’… All the leaders of Israel met with King David at Hebron…and they anointed David king over Israel… David was thirty years old when he became king and ruled for forty years..” ~ 2 Samuel 5:1-5 (MSG)
Wow, that's a powerful reflection. When you compare the journey of Bishop Riddick to King David, it really puts into perspective the depth of influence someone in ministry can have over a lifetime. Just like David’s reign touched countless lives both those named in the Bible and those who may have never made it into the written record Bishop Riddick’s impact is likely just as vast, though perhaps in different ways. It’s amazing how the influence of a faithful servant can ripple outward, affecting generations.
God’s Faithfulness. You’re absolutely right in noting how God has been so faithful in sustaining Bishop Riddick through the highs and lows of ministry. Just like David had his moments of triumph and struggle, Bishop’s journey has surely been marked by God's provision in ways that might not always be visible, but are deeply felt. That unseen protection, guidance, and provision is a testimony of God's ever-present care.
Renewing the Call. Reflecting on how one’s initial calling changes over time reveals its dynamic nature. Like David, whose role grew from shepherd to king, Bishop Riddick’s call has deepened. Walking with God brings greater clarity of purpose because it’s a living thing that adapts to seasons and contexts. And the idea that this calling is rekindled throughout the years speaks to God’s continuous work in shaping and refining those who serve Him.
Embracing the Future. It’s amazing how the call of God continues to be revealed, generation after generation. There’s so much beauty in the ongoing journey of faith, and Bishop Riddick is an incredible example of that. Even after 40 years in ministry, God’s plans for him are still unfolding. The calling is ongoing; there is more ahead. Looking forward, Bishop Riddic’'s impact will reflect Go’s grace, both inside and outside the pulpit, through every meaningful encounter.
Prayer: Father God, thank You for Your servant, Bishop Dwight S. Riddick, Sr., who has led and nurtured so many on their faith journeys Bless him with continued strength and an everdeepening faith. May his efforts bear lasting fruit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Built to Last
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” ~ Matthew 7:24-27 (NIV)
There are not too many things in life that are built to last. Once upon a time a commercial appeared on television that advertised a particular battery. The commercial involved a bunny called The Energizer Bunny® that needed batteries in order to continue to operate. Although that particular battery would last a long time, regardless of what the commercial promoted, at some point it would expire because the battery could not last forever. The battery was not built on a solid foundation to cause it to last.
As Christians, we are built to last because of our firm foundation which is not built on a battery but built on a solid rock. That rock is Jesus! Yes, when we build our foundation on Jesus we are BUILT TO LAST! The rain will come, the storms will appear, hurricanes will arise, and a tsunami may try to destroy our house, (meaning us), to the ground. We can rest assured that in those times we will bend but we will not break to the extent that we are not repairable. Why? Because our house is built on rock and not sand. Jesus is the foundation! When we are built on Jesus as our foundation, we are a doer and not just a listener. As a Christian, we should be obedient to the living God’s word instead of only reading His word. By doing this we are showing the world that God is a priority and that we have the determination to follow Him by adhering to what the Bible has instructed us to do. By putting this into practice our identity, decisions, and purpose are rooted in who Jesus is, which leads to a clear indication that we are truly built to last.
Prayer: Dear God, thank You for sending me Your only begotten Son, Jesus. It is because You sent him to die for me, I can live based on a firm foundation that will not fail but will last forever. Please help me to live an obedient life because this is what You require. You are an awesome God, and I am grateful for Your continued love that is shown in my life. Once again, I say thank You for building me on a solid foundation who is Jesus. He is my reason for living a God-fearing life. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

Still StandingAfter 40 Years Kept by God, Called for the People
“And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.”
~ 2 Thessalonians 3:13 (NIV)
Forty years. Four decades. Bishop, today we pause, not just to count the years, but to count the cost, the calling, and the keeping power of God in your life. You have preached when the world was listening, and when it was not. You have prayed for us when we could not pray for ourselves. You stood in the gap when the gap was wide, and the bridge was broken. Through storms of injustice, through valleys of heartbreak, through mountaintops of victory, you have not grown tired in doing what is good. You have shown us that ministry is not just about the pulpit, but about the people about showing up, speaking up, and standing up, even when the world sits down that’s the heart of a true pastor.
Today, we thank God for keeping you mind, body, and spirit. We thank God for keeping us this congregation, this community, this family of faith. For every soul saved, every heart healed, every mind renewed, we say, “To God be the glory!” For every tear you wiped, every injustice you challenged, every young man or woman you mentored, we say, “Thank You, Lord, for a shepherd after Your own heart.” For every seasoned saint you encouraged and every sick or bereaved person you visited, we say “Father, we are grateful for the beautiful feet of our Bishop.”
As we look back, we see God’s faithfulness. As we look forward, we see God’s promise. The same God who kept Moses for 40 years in the wilderness, who kept Nehemiah while rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, and who kept Paul preaching through persecution, is the same God who keeps you and keeps us.
So today, we continue to commit ourselves to the journey of faith. Let us never tire of doing what is good. Let us disciple, minister, and empower ourselves and others. We are grateful that God has kept us, and God will continue to keep us.
Still standing. Still fighting. Still kept by God.
Prayer: Lord, we thank You for our Bishop, for 40 years of faithfulness, for every sermon, every sacrifice, every soul touched. Keep him strong, keep us united, and keep us pressing toward the mark. May we never grow weary in well-doing, but always trust that in due season, we shall reap if we faint not. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Alone,
but Not Lonely: The Gift of God in Solitude
“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”
~Mark 1:35 (NIV)
If Jesus, the Son of the living God, Word made flesh, miracle-working, storm-calming, crowddrawing Jesus, needed to step away and be alone sometimes, what makes us think we can live without solitude?
Let’s keep it all the way 100! Solitude gets a bad rap. We often associate it with loneliness, punishment, or something from which to escape But, there’s a sacred difference between being alone and feeling lonely. Solitude is not the absence of people; it’s the presence of God without distractions. Don’t think of it as punishment. On the contrary, think of solitude as preparation.
In Mark 1:35, we find Jesus slipping away before sunrise, while the rest of the world was still asleep, to get alone and pray. And what happens right after that? Miracles. Healings. Deliverance. Could it be that Jesus’ ability to do ministry was a direct result of His intimacy with the Father? Solitude is our sanctuary!
Sometimes we try to fill every quiet moment with noise; leaving the television on to create white noise around the house, scrolling through social media, talking, working, or worrying because silence forces us to face what we’d rather avoid. But we must remember that God often whispers in the stillness (I Kings 19:11-13) Solitude silences the world long enough for your soul to hear from heaven.
Maybe you’ve been fighting solitude when God’s been trying to invite you into it. In solitude, God reveals. God heals. God reminds us that our worth isn’t tied to how many people call our name. That you are fully seen and loved just as you are, in the stillness.
So the next time you find yourself alone, don’t rush to fill the space. Pause Breathe. And say as the Prophet Isaiah said, “Lord, Here am I.” Because sometimes, the greatest blessings aren’t found in the crowd, but in our quiet time with our Father
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the sacred gift of solitude. Help me to fully embrace stillness and trust that You will meet me in the quiet places. When life feels loud and people pull at me from every direction, remind me to steal away with You. Let me find peace, clarity, and strength in Your presence, away from all of the noise. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Faithful Through the Years
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” ~ Jeremiah 1:5 (NIV)
“…His word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones…” ~ Jeremiah 20:9 (NIV)
Bishop, your 40 years of faithful service began in the heart of God. Through seasons of triumph and trials, God’s calling on your life has remained unshakable. In a world longing for authentic leadership, your life has spoken louder than your titles. You have served God’s people with integrity, compassion, and consistency. Churches were planted, ministries were birthed, and lives were transformed because you dared to see with God’s eyes
After 40 years, the Word still burns in you. From pulpits to prayer closets, you have declared the truth boldly and with conviction. The fire has not dimmed it has only burned hotter. Let the embers of your preaching continue to ignite revival. Bishop, you have fought well, served well, and stood faithfully; but there is still new ground to take, new leaders to raise, and new glory to give to God! The finish line isn’t behind you it’s ahead, and you’re still running strong.
Benediction: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24–26.
May the God who called you continue to strengthen, anoint, and expand your impact. Thank you for 40 years of obedience, sacrifice, and unwavering faith.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for choosing and sustaining Your servant. May Bishop Riddick continue to walk in divine purpose with confidence and humility. Lord, thank You for Bishop Riddick’s steadfast character. May integrity always be the compass that guides the next season of leadership. Lord, thank You for giving Bishop Riddick divine vision and let the latter days be greater than the former. Holy Spirit, fan the flame within Bishop Riddick. Let every word preached from this point on carry an even greater anointing and reach. God of every season, thank You for bringing Bishop Riddick through 40 years of faithful service. Let this next chapter be marked with greater glory, deeper intimacy, and a legacy that echoes in eternity. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
