Rev. Dr. Anthony R. Cooper, Officiating

Catherine Green Jones, affectionately known to many as “Rine,” was born on July 28, 1939, in Louisburg, North Carolina, to the late Cleophus and Julia Green. She peacefully entered eternal rest on October 29, 2025, surrounded by the love of family and the grace of God.

At an early age, Catherine accepted Christ and was baptized at New Grafton Baptist Church. Later in life, she became a devoted and faithful member of Miracle Temple Baptist Church (formerly Second Baptist Church), where she served diligently as Chair of the Hospitality Committee. Her warm smile, gracious spirit, and welcoming heart made everyone feel at home.

Catherine was educated in the Newport News Public School System and graduated from George W. Carver High School. She continued her education at Norfolk State University, where she deepened her love for learning and community. Professionally, she worked as a school bus driver for Roy Bright Private School. She changed careers and began working at Newport News Shipbuilding, where she was a dedicated employee until her well-earned retirement.
“Rine” was known for her joyful presence and her ability to make everyone feel special. She was an avid fan who rarely missed a game, and she delighted in watching classic Alfred Hitchcock films and westerns. Her evenings were often filled with her favorite game shows, Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud. She was a champion card player and never arrived at a family gathering without a deck of cards ready for a fun card game and laughter.

Her heart for service extended beyond her church and family. Catherine had a deep compassion for the elderly and was passionate about supporting charitable health causes such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Catherine was preceded in death by her loving husband, Linwood E. Jones; her parents, Cleophus and Julia Green; and her sister, Annie Mae Taylor.
She leaves to cherish her beautiful legacy two daughters, Teresa A. Jones and Ursula Moore (Otis); four grandchildren, Carla Montgomery (Robert), Zion Moore (India), Ebony Campbell (Michael), and Shaunte Moore; and five greatgrandchildren who brought her endless joy. She is also survived by her sister, Celestine Green; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, and extended family; and two dear friends, Florence Wright and Anita Joyner.

I thought of you with love today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday and days before that, too. I think of you in silence. I often speak your name. All I have are memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is my keepsake with which I'll never part. God has you in his keeping; I have you in my heart.

Catherine’s life was one of faith, love, and kindness. Her laughter filled rooms, her wisdom guided generations, and her heart touched everyone she met. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit lives on in the lives she nurtured, the love she gave, and the faith she demonstrated daily.

The family of Catherine Jones greatly appreciates all the acts of kindness and love that have been extended to us during this difficult time. Our lives will forever be enriched because you cared so much about our mom. We ask for your continued prayers. May God continuously bless each of you for your hearts of compassion.
A special thanks is extended to the doctors and nurses at Riverside Medical Center. Additionally, hospice care is provided by Trinity Hospice Care. We appreciate Pastor Carter and the staff at C.C. Carter Funeral Home for their service.
