One small step for Rosie, one big step for special care baby unit
Four year old Rosie has overcome a difficult, premature start in life, in part thanks to the support of Gateshead’s Special Care Baby Unit. This year, she will take on the Mini Great North Run for the second time to support babies like her.
Rosie was born seven weeks early after her mam, Claire underwent an emergency caesarean section
Rosie had to go to the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) immediately after birth, while her mum was transferred to the Post Natal Ward to recover from her major surgery

grab bag project
Gateshead Health Charity funded the “Grab Bag” project, an invaluable initiative designed to help vulnerable patients fleeing domestic abuse.
The Trust Safeguarding Team recognised that our patients fleeing domestic violence often presented with only the clothes they are wearing and the team felt that the “Grab Bag” would provide the basic necessities required for the first few days when they arrive at their place of safety along with a donated QE Transport travel voucher to take the patient to a place of safety and QEF food voucher for a packed lunch meal to take with them.
One of the recipients of a grab bag said "I can't thank you enough, I am so grateful for all the effort you have gone to help me I couldn't have got through this without your support"
Grab Bags are distributed via the Trust’s Safeguarding Team.

Thank you to our Fundraisers
Our most dedicated fundraiser Carol completed her sponsored silence on 29 March 24 (a whole 6 hours!), raising an amazing £1000 in memory of her dear friend Carole Guy, who worked at QEH for 37 years and sadly died at St Bede's on 29 December following her 11-year battle with breast cancer Funds will be split between St Bede’s and Breast Screening making a huge difference for our patients
Carol has also been busy hosting the St Bede’s Easter Fair, dressing appropriately for the event!
‘On behalf of Carol Murray and Myself, we would like to send a heartfelt thankyou to all staff and relatives that attended our Easter Fayre on Saturday 23rd March, and for all donations given to us that helped us make this a huge success. Without the donations, help and support we would not be able to raise funds for our patients on St Bede’s. We raised £1000 on the day which is amazing ’
