...Una città che offre un turismo a 360°, una bella movida, accentuato culto dell’enogastronomia con i suoi 100 luoghi dove degustare il meglio delle prelibatezze siciliane, pontili efficienti, spiagge libere e lidi attrezzati, meravigliosi fondali tutelati da un’organizzata Area Marina Protetta, un teatro Trifiletti che ha allietato la stagione invernale ed un Teatro al Castello che anche quest’estate ospiterà i migliori artisti in campo nazionale ed internazionale, percorsi ginnici all’aperto, negozi nel centro cittadino e parchi commerciali in periferia, aree attrezzate per i nostri amici a quattro zampe, restyling di due piazze nevralgiche per la città: Piazza Stazione e Villa Nastasi e tanti altri progetti in itinere... Si potrebbe continuare ancora nell’elogiare la nostra cittadina che finalmente ha intrapreso un vero percorso turistico.
Tutto ciò porta a tantissime presenze di vacanzieri che frequentano piacevolmente la nostra cittadina grazie anche alle sagre, ai mercatini ed alle varie manifestazioni che già
da qualche anno animano le nostre piazze e strade principali.
A lla luce dell’ottimo percorso intrapreso, è il momento di alzare l’asticella, augurandoci che le istituzioni in sinergia e stretta collaborazione con il privato e l’imprenditoria locale possano promuovere sempre più la nostra città andando ad incrementare la presenza del turista anche estero.
Noi tutti, amanti della nostra terra, meritiamo che Milazzo possa essere meta ambita alla stregua delle altre eccellenze siciliane e italiane.

The antiquarium archeological Domenico Ryolo
Nasce il primo museo di Milazzo, alla salita che conduce al del borgo antico è stato inaugurato “ l’Antiquarium Archeologico “.
La collezione espone reperti rinvenuti durante le ricerche nelle aree della necropoli.
Tra i vari oggetti, spiccano barchette e rematori fittili della seconda metà del III secolo a.C., pezzi unici usati, pare, per il trasporto delle anime nell’aldilà, piccole monete che i genitori aveva
no sistemato nella bocca della propria bimba per consentirle il pagamento del tributo a Cerbero, il “nocchier del la livida Palude”, corredi funerari risalenti a un periodo compreso tra fine del V al III secolo avanti Cristo. Il complesso si compone di due corpi di fabbrica: in quello principale i muri sono più spessi e le vecchie sei celle, oggi sono altrettante stanze.

Dicono che in una delle grotte della Baia del Capo di Milazzo, abbia vissuto in meditazione e preghiera Sant’Antonio da Padova.
La grotta è stupenda ed è visitabile, scendendo da una scalinata panoramica nella scogliera del Capo; la festa in suo onore viene celebrata il 13 giugno.
La notte tra il 12 e il 13 giugno, i pellegrini giungono a piedi alla grotta x devozione provenendo da tutta la provincia, Si dice che il Santo benedica in particolare le ragazze nubili per ottenere la grazia di trovare un marito.

Il Castello di Milazzo HISTORICAL TOURS
Castle of Milazzo
Il Castello, monumento nazionale, con una superficie di oltre 7 ettari di cui 12.070 mq coperti da fabbricati, svetta sul paesaggio di Milazzo alla sommità dell’antico “Borgo”. Le prime e rudimentali fortificazioni sono databili alla seconda età della pietra: Neolitico (4.000 a.C. circa).
Più tardi, con i primi colonizzatori greci (VIIIVII sec. a.C.), questo modesto agglomerato prese corpo e si ingrandì. Così, l’acropoli (“città fortificata”) assunse nuova dimensione sino ad accrescere di ruolo e di importanza con il successivo “castrum” (castello) romanobizantino. Furono, però, gli Arabi, che dopo l’843 diedero vita al primo nucleo (la parte più antica) dell’attuale castello, sulle rovine e fondamenta delle civiltà locali, greche, romane e bizantine. Successivamente, i Normanni e gli Svevi edificarono nuove strutture, gli Aragonesi ne adeguarono l’impianto difensivo, ed infine gli Spagnoli lo circondarono con la poderosa cinta bastionata conferendogli le dimensioni di una “cittadella”. Da allora il castello di Milazzo assunse la sua completa e definitiva conformazione giunta tale sino a noi.
Castle, national monument, with an area of over 7 hectares of which 12,070 square meters covered by buildings, towers over the landscape of Milazzo to the top of the old “Borgo”. The first and second rudimentary fortifications dating from the Stone Age: Neolithic (4,000 BC).
Later, with the first Greek colonists (VIII-VII century BC.), This modest agglomeration took shape and became bigger. Thus, the acropolis (fortified town) took up a new dimension to increase the role and importance of the next castrum (castle) Roman-Byzantine Empire. They were, however,
the Arabs, that after 843 gave birth to the first group (the oldest part) of the castle ruins and foundations of the local civilization, Greek, Roman and Byzantine. Later, the Normans and the Swabians built new facilities, the Aragonese nor appropriate plant defense, and finally the Spaniards surrounded him with the mighty ramparts giving the dimensions of a “citadel”. Since then the Castle of Milazzo took its full and final conformation that come down to us.

Storia dei miracoli milazzesi
Inoltre visse ed operò a Milazzo S. Francesco di Paola, famoso per la sua bontà, umiltà e zelo e per la sua fede nel Signore che gli consentì di operare il Miracolo del passaggio dello Stretto di Messina solcando le onde turbolente del mare sul suo stesso mantello, in compagnia di un fraticello di origine milazzese, un certo fra’ Maiorana.
La festa di S. Francesco, protettore della Gente di Mare, è molto sentita da noi e si celebra la prima domenica di Maggio; a questa segue la Festa della “Berrettella”, nella quale una reliquia del Santo (il copricapo) è portata in pellegrinaggio sulle acque del mare antistante il promontorio.

Si narra che nella zona del promontorio del Capo di Milazzo in una splendida villa dell’800 disabitata dagli anni ‘60 denominata “Villa Lucrezia” ma conosciuta dalla gente del posto come villa “Muscianisi”, esista qualcosa di veramente misterioso. Qui lieto mi fiorisce il lare antico, questa è l’iscrizione che sovrasta la villa. Da sapere che i lari e penati erano entità ultraterrene, i cosiddetti Dei del Focolare, e qui ne esiste una di loro, un lare che è stato ripreso e fotografato da un gruppo di studenti che nel corso di un pomeriggio di bravate e curiosità sono entrati in questa villa proprio per cercare quello che dalla popolazione locale viene denominato “u fuddittu ca’ birritta russa” cioè “il folletto con il berretto rosso”. Si dice che nessuno l’abbia mai visto e che non sia riuscito a togliergli il cappello di dosso. Come da leggenda infatti, se si rubasse il cappello ad un folletto si otterrebbero immensa ricchezza e felicità.

Si narra che una strana gabbia metallica fu ritrovata modellata su di un busto umano mancate di gambe è braccia. Si è scoperto che la gabbia fu usata per torturare un traditore Inglese, che tentò di disertare in favore dei Francesi. Il povero Andrew Leonard, fu mutilato e rinchiuso a morire in questa gabbia davanti agli altri commilitoni, in segno d’esempio per chi volesse ancora pensare di disertare. Reperto archeologico scoperto nel 1928 il 17 Febbraio ed oggi custodito presso il Museo.
Was found a strange metal cage modeled on a human torso missing legs and arms. It was discovered that the cage was used to torture a traitor by the English, who tried to defect in favor of the French. Poor Andrew Leonard, was mutilated and thrown to die in this cage in front of other comrades, a sign of an example for those who want to still think of deserting. Archaeological find discovered in 1928 on 17 February and is now housed at the Criminology Museum of Rome.

Possiamo affermare con con una certa sicurezza che l’Osteria Antico Calice è il luogo dove è nato lo SPRITZ. Il prof. Marsich uno dei più affezionati clienti è l’inventore dell’ombra che consiste nel mezzo bicchiere di vino bevuto in piedi al banco. Durante il dominio austriaco l’ombra veniva allungata con seltz. Da qui deriverebbe l’attuale denominazione dello spritz, dal verbo tedesco “spritzen”, ovvero spruzzare.Negli anni subentrarono diverse nuove varianti: Aperol, Campari, Select, Cynar.

Pasta con le sarde alla siciliana THE SICILIAN RECIPE
Sicilian pasta with sardines
Ingredienti per 4 persone: 400 gr. finocchietto, 300 gr. bucatini, 300 gr. sarde fresche, 30 gr. uvetta, 30 gr. pinoli, 2 filetti di acciuga, 1 cipolla, zafferano in polvere, olio extravergine d’oliva, sale, pepe.
Procedimento:
• Per la ricetta della pasta con le sarde alla siciliana, mondate il finocchietto, ricavando solo la parte più tenera; lavatelo e lessatelo in acqua bollente salata per circa 10’. Scolatelo conservando l’acqua nella pentola. Pulite le sarde, aprendole a libro e togliendo la testa e la lisca con la coda.
• Ammollate l’uvetta nell’acqua. Tritate la cipolla e raccoglietela in una larga padella con i filetti di acciuga spezzettati, un bicchiere di acqua, un pizzico di sale e 70 g di olio; cuocete finché non sfrigola, poi aggiungete mezza bustina di zafferano sciolto in un po’ di acqua.
• Aggiungete alla cipolla l’uvetta scolata e strizzata e i pinoli, e fate insaporire per 1’ mescolando.
• Unite le sarde, il finocchietto tritato, e pepate; mettete il coperchio e cuocete per 2’.
• Tuffate intanto i bucatini nell’acqua di cottura del finocchietto, riportata a bollore, poi scolateli al dente e versateli nella padella con le sarde; mescolate delicatamente per insaporirli.
• Lasciateli riposare per 2 3’ prima di servirli.
Ingredients for 4 people: 400 gr. fennel, 300 gr. bucatini, 300 gr. fresh sardines, 30 gr. raisins, 30 gr. pine nuts, 2 anchovy fillets, 1 onion, powdered saffron ,extra virgin olive oil, salt, pepper.
Method:
• For the Sicilian pasta with sardines recipe, clean the fennel, removing only the tenderest part; wash it and boil it in boiling salted water for about 10 minutes. Drain it, keeping the water in the pan. Clean the sardines, opening them like a book and removing the head and the bone with the tail.
• Soak the raisins in water. Chop the onion and place it in a large pan with the chopped anchovy fillets, a glass of water, a pinch of salt and 70 g of oil; cook until it sizzles, then add half a sachet of saffron dissolved in a little water.
• Add the drained and squeezed raisins and the pine nuts to the onion, and cook for 1 minute, stirring.
• Add the sardines, the chopped fennel and pepper; put the lid on and cook for 2 minutes.
• Meanwhile, dip the bucatini in the fennel cooking water, bring them back to the boil, then drain them al dente and pour them into the pan with the sardines; mix gently to flavor them.
• Let them rest for 2 3 m inutes before serving.

La storia di Milazzo si fa risalire ai primi insediamenti umani dell’età neolitica (4000 a.C.). E’ con i Siculi, però che la città acquista ricchezza sino alla fine del VII o ai primi del VI sec. a.C., quando iniziata l’egemonia espansionistica delle popolazioni greche di Zancle (l’odierna Messina) anche il nucleo abitativo di Milazzo fu da questi sottomesso e trasformato in una “Polis” fortificata, la sottomissione alla vicina Messina durò sino al 270 a.C.. Nel periodo romano le sue acque furono teatro di due importanti battaglie navali. Nel 260 a.C. la cittadina assistette al trionfo della flotta romana comandata dal Console Caio Duilio su quella cartaginese (prima guerra punica). Nel 36 a.C. ben due secoli dopo, Milazzo divenuta importante base navale di Sesto Pompeo, fu legata alle vicende della guerra civile tra quest’ultimo ed Ottaviano per la vittoria navale di Vipsanio Agrippa, comandante della flotta di Ottaviano su Sesto Pompeo. Sotto l’impero d’oriente, la cittadina, non solo fece parte di un importante triangolo difensivo, ma divenne anche una delle principali sedi vescovili siciliane. Con la sua espugnazione avvenuta nell’843 da parte di Fadhl Ibn Giàfar inizia la dominazione mussulmana. Nel 1061 Ruggero D’Altavilla si impadronì della città e del fortilizio assurgendolo a testa di ponte per la conquista normanna e la cacciata dei mussulmani dalla Sicilia. Incorporato poi nel regio demanio da Federico II di Svevia, il suo nuovo castello fu inserito, fra i “castra exenta” sotto la diretta giurisdizione reale. Nella guerra del Vespro (1282) Milazzo venne alternativamente occupata da due sovrani contendenti: Carlo D’Angiò e Pietro d’Aragona. Per quasi un secolo, dopo che fu nuovamente presa dagli Angioini nel 1341 e fino agli inizi del XVI sec. Milazzo fu al centro di numerose e travagliate vicende belliche legate ai conflitti feudali che insanguinarono la Sicilia. Durante la dominazione spagnola la città accrebbe la sua importanza strategica. Sono di questo periodo le ultime più importanti ed imponenti fortificazioni dello storico Castello che a tutt’oggi si possono ammirare. Fu anche più volte sede del Vicerè e dei Luogotenenti di Sicilia. Gli ultimi guizzi del dominio spagnolo si esaurirono nel 1713 quando, la sovranità della Sicilia passò a Vittorio Amedeo II di Savoia. Vano fu il tentativo
di riconquista da parte di Filippo V di Spagna che impegnò le truppe austropiemontesi nel vasto e cruento assedio della città dal luglio 1718 al maggio del 1719. Durante tale assedio gravi i danneggiamenti o le distruzioni al patrimonio storico e monumentale. Con l’insediamento dei Borboni sul trono delle Due Sicilie, la città mantenne il suo ruolo strategico militare. Il 20 luglio 1860, Milazzo fu teatro della famosa e risolutiva battaglia tra le truppe garibaldine e le truppe di Francesco II di Borbone. Con l’avvento del Regno d’Italia la città perse la sua importanza strategico militare. Durante l’ultimo conflitto mondiale Milazzo subì massicci e cruenti bombardamenti. Individuata quale zona da sbarco nel piano inglese di invasione della Sicilia, il suo porto venne potenziato notevolmente nelle difese quale importante centro marittimo, ferroviario e militare.
