Gallery 7 Theatre’s mandate is to share stories that explore the relational, social, and spiritual aspects of the human experience with a vision towards hope, reconciliation, and redemption. In that spirit, we’d like to acknowledge we carry on our artistic endeavors on the traditional and unceded territory of the Sto:Lo people, Sema:th First Nation and Mathxwi First Nation and we are thankful for this opportunity. May there be healing and peace as we seek to build a stronger, respectful, and more unified community together.
Welcome to Gallery 7 Theatre and to our production of The Sound of Music. This much beloved musical occupies a very special place in many people’s lives. Watching the movie at set times of the year has become a tradition for many and has been the centre of countless positive bonding moments amongst family and friends.
We've worked hard to honour what so many love and cherish about The Sound of Music while introducing our own unique touch. Over the rehearsal process, I’ve personally grown quite fond of this show. Rodgers and Hammerstein were experts in creating commercially appealing musicals that weren't afraid to dig deeper into more challenging themes. The Sound of Music is no exception.
While on the surface, The Sound of Music is about family and romance, underneath, it is a story of discovering one’s place in the world, the challenging transition from childhood to adulthood, determining right from wrong, staying true to your values and convictions when they are tested, and how political dogma can divide people and destroy communities. Some of the darker moments in the story remind us, and lament the fact, that we live in a broken world, yet they also inspire us to seek what’s good, just, and right so we may experience joy, peace, and community. Talk about juicy themes for the heart, soul and mind, and why I appreciate The Sound of Music very much.
Now, a word about our set. Designed by the talented Jeff Kiers and built by a team of volunteers led by the indispensable Andrew Potts, the set satisfies both functional and logistical needs to be sure, but it serves a stylistic purpose as well. The one-dimensional cut outs of key set pieces are like that of a paper diorama and whimsically remind us of both the show’s historical context and its place as one of the most celebrated cinematic and Broadway productions of all time. The set provides enough sense of the environment to anchor the story in time and place, but also invites us to fill in the gaps using our imagination and our own memories of The Sound of Music to make the
experience more personal. The Sound of Music, while a big and spectacular musical, is at its heart an intimate, character-driven story, and the set’s neutral colour palette brings focus to the characters, dressed in beautiful costuming designed by the incomparable Karyna Barros, and their individual journey.
I’ve been truly honoured and privileged to work with such an amazing cast, crew, and design team on this production. It truly takes a community to make theatre, and I am in awe of our team’s amazing talent, passion, and professionalism. I believe this production truly speaks to their dedication and abilities. I hope you enjoy this production of The Sound of Music in all its facets and that it is welcomed into your hearts and minds. May it bring joy, reprieve, and nourishment for the soul, and may it augment your long-standing love for, and appreciation of, this special story.
PS: Our season this year celebrates and explores the concept of community, and I’m sure you’ll quickly discover how The Sound of Music fits in with this theme. Thank you for joining us and being a part of our theatre community. We look forward to seeing you here again very soon.

Lewis in Shadowlands and Captain Hook in Peter Pan. Recently, Andrew performed in The Magician’s Nephew and A Tale of Two Cities Andrew has no singing ability, but he has always wanted to act in The Sound of Music. It is a good thing that his part does not need him to sing.
Karyna Barros (Costume Designer) Karyna, with over 30 years of costume expertise and 94 film credits, brings passion to every project. Nominated for CAFTCAD and Leo Awards for her work on FREYA and NARCOLEAP, her dedication ensures seamless script realisation. Nigel Brooke (Lighting Designer) Nigel has designed lights for dozens of productions around the Lower Mainland, including Screwball Comedy, Ghost of a Chance, and Cinderella for the Royal Canadian Theatre Company, where he is the resident lighting designer; Murder on the Orient Express and Snowbound for Gallery 7 Theatre, and many more. He also occasionally performs and directs, appearing recently as Sir Rupert in Jeeves Intervenes for G7 and directing As You Like It for Shadows and Dreams.
Addie Cal (Ensemble) Addie has been performing in musicals since she was a five-year-old and her younger sister was the rest of the cast. She loves singing and acting, and in her spare time, can be found reading or baking! Fun fact: Addie is the third generation in her family to do The Sound of Music in their grade 11 year!
Raelyn Schatz Lauren Solomon Piper Wilkinson Wyatt Sauve Hannah Richmond Andrew Potts Samuel Pue Brittany Holman Seanna Snyder Liam Whatley Elizabeth Seaman Ryan Tempel Peter Shaver Tehillah ThuroBethany Caldwell (Mother Abbess) After a 7-year hiatus, Bethany is thrilled to be back on stage with Gallery 7 Theatre. She graduated from UFV in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Sociology. She has been away from the theatre for a while, pursuing a career in real estate and social media, but after taking her first professional contract in Toronto in March of 2023 with EveryBody on Stage, her love for the stage came back in full swing. Some of her favourite on stage credits include Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast, Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz, and Swing in Around the World in 80 Days.
Abbie Charlton (Ensemble) Abbie first developed a love for musical theatre when her mom introduced her to Funny Girl starring Barbara Streisand. She has been hooked ever since. Though she has admired musicals from afar, she is thrilled to finally take part in one as a member of the ensemble. Music has always been an integral part of Abbie's life, and she has loved singing since she was a child. She's looking forward to performing on stage for the first time. She hopes you enjoy the show!
Alexis Clift (Ursula) Alexis’ love of musical theatre began at a young age when her mother and grandma introduced her to the film The Sound of Music. Since then, Alexis has let her love of theatre guide her, from singing in vocal jazz choirs to acting on stage, to currently teaching theatre in her community. Alexis graduated from UFV in 2017 with a degree in theatre and graduated from UBC in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in Education. Alexis is thrilled to be part of such a wonderful show and she hopes you enjoy it!
Pat Davis (Assistant Stage Manager) Pat began acting with Opening Night Theatre. Her first contact with Gallery 7 Theatre was eleven years ago in The Hiding Place and then she played Grandma Tzeitel in Fiddler on the Roof. This performance will be her eighteenth working backstage as ASM. The Sound of Music is Pat’s favourite and this will be her final show with G7 as she is moving to the Interior. She says she will miss all the wonderful talented actors she has met over the last eleven years. Enjoy the show!
Kaylie DeBoer (New Postulant/Ensemble)
Kaylie’s passion for theatre started when she was 5 years old. She took the stage as a cute little puppy and stole the show. After that, Kaylie performed in a few school plays where she experienced the excitement and hard work of a few lead roles. However, this is the first real production and musical she's been a part of.
She's very excited about this play and knows the audience will enjoy it as well.
Lora Dijk (Frau Schmidt) Performing vocally since the age of three, Lora is not a stranger to the stage. She pursued music training, performed extensively, and directed choir and stage productions. This was the catalyst that sparked her desire for artistic expression through theatre. Her first appearance in Fiddler on the Roof was amazing so she enrolled in G7 classes to grow artistically. Lora is excited to be a part of a great cast that collaborates to produce uplifting theatre. She hopes your experience will be delightful, elevating you from the ordinary into the extraordinary.
Angel Duran-Héon (Herr Zeller) Since 2018, Angel has been an avid member of the Gallery 7 Theatre community. From Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to stepping into the world of Jane Austen, Angel has enjoyed being a welcome and welcoming friend at Gallery 7 Theatre. However, today he steps into his role as the opposite of a friend, as something of a villain rather! Although it is a new change of pace and character, nonetheless our heroes this round are more than capable, so please enjoy Gallery 7 Theatre’s The Sound of Music!
Heidi Epp (Musical Director) This is Heidi’s first Gallery 7 Theatre show and it has been a truly joyful journey. Growing up in Richmond, she took her extensive musical education cultivated by her family and passion for theatre and graduated from the Vancouver Film and Theatre School. After years of combining performing/ directing/conducting/teaching and working with inner city youth in the Lower Mainland, Heidi, with her extended family, relocated to Yarrow. She currently is the Program Director at the Bakerview Music Academy, the Founder and Artistic Director of the Fraser Valley Children’s Chorus, the Artistic Director of the Richmond Youth Honour Choir, and has a private piano teaching studio.
Kyra Esau (Choreographer) Kyra has been working in dance education for most of her life and loves working with Gallery 7 Theatre for their musicals. The goals for the show were to keep it simple and light and give the musical a “dance of the everyday” sort of feel. Kyra stuck with classic folk dances from Austria and simple movements. Kyra hopes you love the show and that the cast blows you away with this gorgeous telling of the story. Kyra would like to thank her son, Michael, for his endless support when she gets home late.
Clara Fairbairn (Brigitta von Trapp) This is Clara’s first time performing with Gallery 7 Theatre, and she is very excited to be playing the role of Brigitta for you! When Clara is not reading, writing stories and poems, playing with cats, or bossing around her four younger siblings, you can find her singing. Clara loves to sing with the choir, Pacific Voices, and as a soloist in Lower Mainland music festivals and events. She hopes you enjoy the show!
Sarah Green (Make-Up & Hair Design) Sarah is a UFV Theatre Alumni and avid lover of the arts who has designed, performed, and directed locally as well as internationally. Select directing credits include The Importance of Being Earnest, Doubt, A Parable and The Secret Garden. Select lighting design credits include Hamlet (UFV), The Fantasticks, Mary’s Wedding, Last Train to Nibroc, This Wonderful Life and The Magician’s Nephew. She hasn’t done many other shows but looks forward to continuing her time on the stage after The Sound of Music. Jaimee enjoys hanging out with her sisters and watching her favourite show with her mom. She has loved being a part of the cast, meeting everyone, working together to create amazing memories, and hopes everyone enjoys the show as much as she does.
Sheldon Jeans (Baron Elberfeld) A graduate of UFV, Sheldon's passion for theatre started in high school. Over the years he has worked on student and independent films and appeared in the background of many films and TV shows shot in and around the Fraser Valley. This is Sheldon's
second time with Gallery 7 Theatre and he's looking forward to more on stage and off.

Dianna Lewis (Props Designer/Photographer) Dianna’s career as a professional photographer began 40 years ago and she still enjoys the challenge of capturing live theatre action. She has worked as a prop designer for ages and likes the satisfaction of seeing ideas and sweat come to life on stage. Her latest design stint was with Pacific Theatre in their production of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Off season, she can be found at local markets flogging her art works or spoiling her grandchildren with love, games, and candy.
Ruthie MacKenzie (Elsa Schrader) Ruthie holds a BA(Hons) Musical Theatre Triple Threat Degree from the University of Chichester Conservatoire (England). A theatre veteran, she has appeared in a wide variety of theatre over many years – from Shakespeare to Disney, Rogers & Hammerstein to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Her Gallery 7 Theatre appearances include Tempting Providence (female swing) and more recently, Holy Mo and Spew Boy (Follie). Ruthie has a 9-month-old son and is loving the new challenge of motherhood. She also professes a love of tea, sunshine, music, and period dramas. Soli Deo Gloria.
Cameron McKerchar (Franz) Cameron has loved the theatre since he had the inkling to try it out at A.S.I.A. High School. Since then, it's been a rollercoaster of amazing experiences with incredible people! He has previously appeared in a handful of Gallery 7 Theatre shows including Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley, The Giver, A
Wrinkle in Time, and The Hiding Place (March, 2014 by the way). Yes, we've come full circle…happy 10 years!!! :) Cameron is dedicating the show to his late Gram, who said this was her favourite movie!
Robin Metcalfe (Costume Assistant) Robin, with a background in project management, seamlessly transitioned into the film industry, excelling as a costume designer and assistant costume designer. Initially entering as the main cast driver, his passion for costumes led to 2 Best Costume Awards and 57 film credits. Notably, he served as Associate Producer on the 2024 feature Ruthless Bastards, starring Patrick Flannery and Casper van Dien.
October Penningroth (Rolf Gruber) October has been involved in theatre for over 11 years. He discovered his love of the stage at the age of 8 when he took his first drama class. He has held such roles as SpongeBob in SpongeBob the Musical, RaceTrack in Newsies, and many more. His interest in dance started later at the age of 11 and grew from there. October has a love for the stage that continues to grow over time.
Andrew Potts (Head of Construction) Andrew has built sets for Gallery 7 Theatre since 2017. He enjoys the variety; every set is unique and has its own joys and challenges. Thanks to Sheldon, Chris, Karen, Steve, Liam, and Linda for their excellent help with this build. Enjoy the show!
Samuel Pue (Kurt von Trapp) Samuel is a fifteenyear-old boy who enjoys musical theatre. His first show was The Secret Garden last year with Gallery 7 Theatre. The Sound of Music is his second, and he has enjoyed working on it. He enjoys playing sports, especially hockey and football. He also likes listening to music, his favourite genres being hip hop/rap, pop, and Broadway. He hopes to continue growing in theatre as he does more of it in the future. He hopes you will like this show. Enjoy!
Hannah Richmond (Ensemble) When Hannah was seven years old, she was introduced to theatre by watching The Sound of Music at her local high school. Ever since then, she has grown a love for theatre and was able to join her first musical, Beauty and the Beast, in Grade 10. During her senior year, she auditioned again for Frozen and got cast as Olaf, but the world went into the pandemic, cancelling the show. Thankfully, her passion has not died and now she is ready to keep going!
Wyatt Sauve (Friedrich von Trapp) Wyatt has over 10 years of experience with theatre and the performing arts, with singing being his biggest priority. This is his second production with Gallery 7 Theatre and he’s enjoyed working with the talent and production team thus far! He is a film student attending the University of the Fraser Valley and has big dreams to become successful in the industry as a filmmaker. He also has plans to compete in bodybuilding competitions in the future as it is another big passion is his life.
Raelyn Schatz (Maria Rainer) Raelyn is absolutely honoured to be playing Maria. Raelyn was first introduced to musicals when her mother and grandmother showed her one of their favourite movies, The Sound of Music. From that day on, all she wanted to do was be a performer. Although her grandma cannot be here to see Raelyn in her dream role, she hopes to bring her grandma's Maria-like energy to the stage. “Thank you, Mom, for introducing me to what I love most. I have carried Grandma and Grandpa in my heart throughout every second of this show. I love you. “
Elizabeth Seaman (Sister Margaretta/Frau Zeller) Elizabeth is so happy to be playing Sister Margaretta and Frau Zeller! This is Elizabeth’s seventh show with Gallery 7 Theatre. She hopes everyone enjoys the show as much as she does! Elizabeth was most recently seen on stage during last season as Lily in The Secret Garden. Some of her other past roles include Lucy Steele in Sense and Sensibility, Cindy Lou in Winter Wonderettes, Diana Barry in Anne of Green Gables: The Musical, and Marian Paroo in The Music Man

He is very pleased to be performing Max in this wonderful production of The Sound of Music
Seanna Snyder (Sister Sophia) Seanna’s love of theatre started from a young age when she was introduced to The Phantom of the Opera’s soundtrack, and other famous musicals such as The Sound of Music. Her love of music was encouraged long before that by both her parents.
Through her teenage years, Seanna played piano, sang in her high school choir, and took part in the high school's theatre productions. When she’s not singing showtunes, she enjoys reading and hiking around the Lower Mainland. She hopes you enjoy the show!
Lauren Solomon (Sister Berthe) Character mezzo-soprano, Lauren Solomon, graduated from UBC Opera where she performed roles such as: Mme. De la Haltière in Cendrillon and Mrs. Herring in Albert Herring. Lauren has gone on to perform roles such as Yente in Fiddler on the Roof (Opera Nuova) and Berta in The Barber of Seville (Burnaby Lyric) along with several others. When not performing, Lauren is an elementary music and voice teacher as well as vocal director at CSOPA. Lauren is thrilled to be making her debut with Gallery 7 Theatre as Sister Berthe!
Brittany Holman (Stage Manager) Brittany stepped into theatre in college. Past credits include Becky Thatcher, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (G7); Ensemble, Fiddler on the Roof (G7); Stage Manager, Nowheresville, BC (Little Dipper Theatre); and Stage Manager, The Secret Garden (G7). When not organising at the theatre, you’ll find her organising homes and spreadsheets or doodling. Brittany would like to thank the cast and crew for sharing their talents and her husband for his constant encouragement and support. She hopes you enjoy the beauty and community that music brings.
Ryan Tempel (Marta von Trapp) Ryan discovered her love for acting and theatre at a young age. She has explored background acting in films, participated in her school’s theatre performance of Beauty and the Beast, and been actively involved in choir and her school’s worship team. In her free time, Ryan enjoys listening to music, baking, playing basketball, and spending time with animals. She looks forward to future
performances and thanks her parents for their support and her friends for their encouragement. Ryan hopes the performance brings a smile to your face!
Tehillah Thuro (Louisa von Trapp) Tehillah has previously performed in several minor plays and musicals such as Beauty and the Beast (Lumiere), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Helena), and a couple of church productions. She can often be seen making short films with her neighbours in huge fur coats, hats, and bejewelled sunglasses with preposterously fancy British accents just for the fun of it. She has had a fantastic time getting to know her “fake family”, the von Trapps, and is looking forward to performing as Louisa in this year’s The Sound of Music
Liam Whatley (Captain Georg von Trapp) Liam returns to the stage for a fourth production with Gallery 7 Theatre, the first three being Murder on the Orient Express, The Secret Garden, and A Tale of Two Cities. Liam has also performed in Les Miserables, Anne of Green Gables, and The Tempest. Outside musical theatre, Liam completed a Bachelor of Music, majoring in Composition, from MacEwan University in 2020. When not in musical theatre, Liam writes music which he performs with the guitar, piano, and voice.
Piper Wilkinson (Gretl von Trapp) Piper is so excited to be part of her first production with Gallery 7 Theatre, playing the youngest of the von Trapp children. Piper’s previous and first production experience was last summer playing the role of General Schmitz in Seussical (Secondary Characters), and now live theatre is one of her “favourite things!” Piper also enjoys dance, writing, art, beating her family at board games, and she loves dogs. Piper is in Grade 3 and will be celebrating her 9th birthday during the run of the show!
