APRESENTAÇÃO DO ESCRITÓRIO OFFICE PRESENTATION Diferente de um escritório tradicional, o CAMPO esforça-se em servir como uma plataforma colaborativa para profissionais extremamente motivados, os quais procuram, acima de tudo, dedicarem-se à arquitetura, ao planejamento urbano e ao paisagismo através de suas características multidisciplinares. Um conceito fundamental para o escritório tem sido de que o projeto – seja ele o projeto de cidades inteiras ou de uma pequena parte destas – é fundamentalmente o resultado de um processo constante de debate, uma conclusão que leva em conta idéias simultaneamente convergentes e divergentes. Com uma equipe internacional de profissionais experientes em arquitetura, tecnologia construtiva, gestão de projeto, planejamento e desenho urbanos, paisagismo e planejamento ambiental, o CAMPO é capacitado para desenvolver projetos que sejam ao mesmo tempo economicamente eficientes e inovadores. Operando através de um sistema altamente colaborativo, a estrutura da equipe do CAMPO não segue uma hierarquia vertical usual, possibilitando assim uma alta performance de produção sob constante reflexão. O CAMPO objetiva distinguir-se de práticas meramente comerciais através de um compromisso contínuo com processos rigorosos de pensamento crítico que são refletidos diretamente na qualidade de seu de trabalho e de sua produção. Esta condição leva ao desenvolvimento de uma metodologia de projeto bastante particular, a qual considera uma relação mais horizontal entre sua equipe e seus clientes. Nesse contexto, o CAMPO busca oferecer uma contribuição para o entendimento da arquitetura e do urbanismo como ferramentas de desenvolvimento de potenciais ao invés de instrumentos para limitações e restrições.

CAPACITAÇÃO TÉCNICA E LOGÍSTICA TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY AND LOGISTICS Por conta da amplitude de escalas de atuação do CAMPO – que é capaz de atender aos mais variados clientes, desde projetos de interiores a planos urbanos – foi necessária a implementação de ferramentas de gestão de projeto e de metodologia de projeto adequadas a diferentes níveis de complexidade projetual. Desde sua criação, o CAMPO tem investido pesado na consolidação de suas estruturas física, operacional e de recursos humanos. A partir destes investimentos e da experiência anterior de seus fundadores na coordenação de projetos de alta complexidade, o CAMPO desenvolveu um sistema exclusivo de gerência de projetos chamado CAMPO-SIS.

CONVERSÃO DO HOTEL NACIONAL CONVERSION OF THE ‘HOTEL NACIONAL’ Este estudo tem por objetivo a transformação do antigo Hotel Nacional, no bairro de São Conrado – fechado desde 1995 –, em um edifício residencial sobre embasamento comercial. A proposta tira proveito de alguns princípios arquitetônicos do projeto original de Niemeyer tais como a pureza formal, a estrutura independente, a modulação e a compartimentação radial. Para cada apartamento-matriz (definido pelo número de módulos) há diversas soluções de compartimentação interna e layout. Cozinhas e banheiros localizam-se próximos ao core, aproveitando os shafts existentes. Externamente, painéis corrediços de alumínio garantem o conforto térmico dos apartamentos, sem detrimento da vista ou da pureza formal, e oferecem uma nova imagem, mais comercial, ao edifício.

O projeto para a nova sede do IPHAN deriva de um diálogo entre conceitos sobre a “constituição do lugar” e algumas idéias que organizam o ordenamento espacial de Brasília – mistura de escalas, condições geográficas e sistema de tráfego. Em termos formais, a proposta lida com a dimensão estética da arquitetura. Explorando relações dialéticas entre o edifício e a cidade, o indivíduo e o lugar e tempo e espaço, o projeto se impõe como um “fato plástico”. O pátio central constitui seu principal elemento. Vazio e lugar ao mesmo tempo, ele expressa os desejos da instituição por descentralização e vigor, ao mesmo tempo em que promove uma instigante mistura de escalas. O pátio trapezoidal está envolvido por três blocos edificados que representam, cada um, um macro-setor funcional da instituição.

The design for IPHAN’s new HQ originates from a dialogue between concepts on the “constitution of place” and some ideas which organize Brasilia’s spatial ordering, such as the mix of scales, geographical conditions and the traffic system. In formal terms, the proposal deals with the aesthetic dimension of architecture. By exploiting dialectical relations between building and city, individual and place, and time and space, the design asserts itself as a “plastic fact”. The central court constitutes its main element. Void and place in one time, it expresses the institution’s requests for decentralization and strength. At the same time, it promotes an interesting mix of scales. The trapezoidal court is surrounded by three volumes, each of them representing a macro-function of the institution.

Uma celebração às relações, este é o objetivo principal deste projeto. Não apenas relações comerciais, mas de toda ordem: trocas de experiências, de conhecimentos, de práticas, de sabedorias, até trocas físicas com o meio ambiente, enfim, relações. Em sua dimensão urbana, o mercado estabelece relações com a cidade, seus habitantes e visitantes (turistas). Por meio de elementos arquitetônicos expressivos, posicionados nas esquinas (a varanda em balanço e o torreão), atrai o público do entorno; acena para os passantes com quiosques e mesas localizados no térreo, diretamente ligados à rua; e, através de múltiplas aberturas (nos módulos da cobertura e nas paredes de tijolo), estabelece trocas físicas com o meio, permitindo a entrada controlada do ar e da luz natural.

MUSEU ANTÔNIO PARREIRAS ANTÔNIO PARREIRAS MUSEUM O Museu Antônio Parreiras foi criado em 1941 e instalado na antiga residência de Parreiras, um famoso pintor de paisagens e retratista do século XIX. No entanto, o conjunto arquitetônico de sua residência nunca foi devidamente adaptado para exercer tal função. Este projeto tem como objetivo sanar este problema e ampliar as atividades do museu, melhor adequando-o às exigências museológicas contemporâneas. Em parceria com escritórios de restauro e paisagismo, os espaços do museu foram projetados para a total integração entre os percursos internos e o jardim romântico que o cerca, também obra de Parreiras. O novo anexo serve como extensão da exposição e nó de circulação geral e de serviços (com bistrô, loja e outras conveniências). Arquitetura e paisagem fundem-se para oferecer uma experiência mais ampla e rica aos visitantes. Será possível não apenas admirar as obras de Antônio Parreiras e o conjunto arquitetônico de Ramos de Azevedo (um importante arquiteto paulista), mas também acessar e permanecer confortavelmente nos jardins do museu.

Os conceitos desenvolvidos para a Nova BPSC procuram responder a esse duplo caráter do programa fazendo da arquitetura um dispositivo equalizador das necessidades opostas exigidas pela natureza da biblioteca contemporânea Desta forma, a distribuição programática da biblioteca se dá em um esquema vertical de gradação de privacidade. Privilegia o acesso direto e irrestrito ao seu nível térreo, organizando os ambientes de leitura, consulta e administrativos em seus pavimentos superiores e de acervo no subsolo. Este partido reforça visualmente a vocação do térreo como espaço agregador e público, enquanto o restante do edifício – como uma rocha perfurada – colocase em destaque conferindo à nova BPSC um caráter icônico, capaz de dar destaque à conservação e difusão e cultural catarinense.

O projeto para o MuMA foi concebido a partir da reflexão a respeito das transformações na arquitetura e em como arquitetura responde à passagem do tempo se relacionando com o meio envolvente. Consideramos que a maneira mais eficaz de se fazer arquitetura e paisagismo sustentáveis é compreendendo e explorando os potenciais dos processos de transformação de um determinado território. O projeto baseiase no reaproveitamento máximo de todos os recursos locais disponíveis no terreno, com a escolha integrada de processos construtivos e de gestão de recursos. Encarados como elementos vivos e em constante adaptação, os novos jardins possuem funções ecológicas e pedagógicas complementares às atividades do Jardim Botânico. O MuMA tem a oportunidade de pôr em prática conceitos entendem a intervenção arquitetônica e paisagística de forma indissociável e como ferramenta de renovação. O desenho do projeto emerge naturalmente da interface edifício-paisagem e de seus fluxos, havendo uma estruturação mútua que torna difusa a oposição entre eles.

The project for MuMA was conceived from a reflection on the transformations in architecture and in how architecture responds to the time lapse relating with the surrounding environment. We consider that the most efficient way to engage sustainable architecture and landscape design is by understanding and exploring the potentials of the transformation processes in a certain territory. In this sense, the project is grounded on the maximum reuse of local resources available at the site, combined with an integrated selection of building processes and the management of resources. Faced as diverse living elements in constant adaptation, the new gardens have ecological and pedagogical functions, which are complementary to the Botanical Garden activities. MuMA has the opportunity to put in practice wider methods that understand architectural and landscape interventions as one and as a tool for renovation. The design of the project emerges naturally from the relations between building-landscape and the flows, structuring each other

O bairro de Santa Cruz é muito diferente (e distante) da cultura de praia carioca que todos conhecemos. A falta de equipamentos urbanos que sirvam como local de encontro e entretenimento para a população local forçou o bairro a estabelecer uma dinâmica social peculiar. A interação social se dá quando as comunidades locais juntam-se ao redor de eventos coletivos, como, por exemplo, um jogo de futebol. Futebol não é somente um esporte em Santa Cruz. Um jogo de futebol é um evento coletivo que ativa a comunidade como um todo. Foi precisamente a intensificação desta qualidade do esporte, a de catalisar a união social, o que originou o conceito primário deste projeto, que funciona como um dispositivo urbano que gera, ao mesmo tempo, movimento e permanência no terreno. O centro de treinamento foi projetado como uma estrutura híbrida. Seus elementos arquitetônicos e paisagísticos se combinam para criar um equipamento vivo e representativo para a comunidade. O centro cria regimes flexíveis de circulação e uso, desempenhando um papel de portal, circulação sombreada e ícone. Sua posição dentro do bairro convenientemente media a circulação entre diversos pontos importantes. SALA DE DANÇA - SESC QUITANDINHA DANCE STUDIO - SESC QUITANDINHA CULTURAL CENTER Juntamente com a reforma dos camarins do teatro principal do SESC Quitandinha (antigo hotel de arquitetura eclética), o programa exigia a criação de uma sala para apresentações de dança e teatro em um espaço subutilizado localizado entre a laje de forro do palco do teatro e uma das coberturas inclinadas do hotel, que remete à arquitetura de chalés. Apesar do aspecto rústico do exterior, o interior da cobertura é composto por lajes de concreto inclinadas apoiadas sobre vigas também inclinadas gerando um espaço não-ortogonal extremamente rico. Este espaço foi então projetado para oferecer usos flexíveis, servindo tanto como área para pequena apresentações como para ensaios. As vigas existentes foram utilizadas para a instalação de iluminação difusa ao ambiente, enquanto as janelas laterais, em formato triangular, dão acesso a iluminação e ventilação naturais.

Alongside the renovation of the dressing and rehearsal rooms of the SESC Quitandinha cultural center (a former hotel designed in eclectic German style), the program also demanded the creation of a dance studio in an underused area on between of the theaters technical ceiling and one of the hotel’s inclined chalet-like roofs. Despite the roofs rustic exterior, its interior is made of inclined concrete slabs and beams, which generate a compelling nonorthogonal space. This space was designed to offer flexible alternatives for small dance presentations and rehearsal. The existing beams were used as the basis for the lighting system, which provides diffuse lighting while also existing side windows, in triangular shape, give access to natural lighting and ventilation.

COBERTURA NO LEBLON PENTHOUSE IN LEBLON O apartamento foi totalmente remodelado para abrigar uma família de quatro pessoas. Sua arquitetura, típica dos anos 60, apresentava uma organização dos espaços de circulação e íntimos bastante equivocada. Haviam duas circulações paralelas, uma que levava aos quartos e outra que servia como acesso às dependências de serviço. A posição destas impedia tanto a iluminação natural de boa parte da área íntima, como uma distribuição mais agradável dos quartos. Com a supressão de boa parte da circulação de serviço, foi possível converter todos os quartos em suítes e oferecer luz e ventilação natural à circulação da área íntima. Além disso, o acesso ao pavimento superior foi totalmente redesenhado, criando um hall interno com pé-direito duplo e iluminação natural. A reforma incorporou dispositivos sustentáveis como aquecimento de água por energia solar e a criação de um jardim vertical na cobertura.

The apartment was completely remodeled in order to house a four-people family. Its architecture, with a typical floor plan from the 60’s, presented a rather inadequate organization of the circulation spaces and bedrooms’ area. There were two parallel corridors, one for the bedrooms and the other to access the service area. Their position obstructed both natural lighting of the bedroom area and a more enjoyable distribution of the bedrooms. With the suppression of a big portion of the service corridor, it was possible to convert all the bedrooms into suites (with ensuite WCs), and offer natural lighting and ventilation to the bedrooms’ circulation corridor. Besides that, the access to the upper floor was totally redesigned, creating an internal hall with a double-height ceiling, with natural lighting. The renovation also embodied sustainable devices, such as water heating by solar energy, and a vertical garden on the top floor 05

A escada original é modificada e prolonga-se (em uma nova estrutura metálica) ao novo pavimento de cobertura, criado para ser um espaço de trabalho e um terraço que tiram partido das vistas e da vegetacão local. Uma clarabóia ilumina a escada, projetada para trazer luz indireta ao interior e promover a integração entre os pavimentos. As esquadrias propostas para os quartos frontais controlam a entrada de luz (com janelas tipo “camarão” que funcionam também como brises pivotantes) e definem a imagem da casa para o exterior na sua única fachada externa. A garagem lateral foi incorporada à sala de estar levando o acesso da casa para lateral oposta, o que facilita a distribuição dos fluxos internos da casa.

Com o desafio de abrigar confortavelmente uma família de cinco pessoas, este projeto teve que aumentar consideravelmente a área de uma casa de 140,00 m2 construída em um condomínio de residências originalmente operárias no Jardim Botânico, enquanto as qualidades de seus espaços e pátios internos eram mantidas. O lote estreito e profundo levou o projeto a voltar-se internamente para dois pátios: um central, para onde abre-se a sala, e um de fundos, que integra um jardim à area de serviço e para onde voltamse alguns quartos e os escritórios.

Cabinda é um enclave angolano entre o que antes chamavam-se Congos Belga e Francês e é o segundo maior produtor de petróleo do continente africano (atrás apenas da Nigéria). Após o fim da Guerra Civil Angolana, o novo governo da Província de Cabinda passou a investir uma parte significativa da renda originada com a venda do petróleo em programas de desenvolvimento urbano. Estes programas incluem projetos de renovação urbana em diversos assentamentos de baixa renda, tendo sida a comunidade “A Vitória é Certa” a primeira a ser contemplada.

Cabinda is an Angolan enclave between the former Belgian and French Congos, and is the second largest extractor of petroleum in Africa (right after Nigeria). After the end of the Angolan civil war, the new government was able to invest profits from petroleum extraction and initiated numerous urban renewal projects throughout its slums. ‘A Vitória é Certa’ is the first slum in Cabinda to benefit from this kind of project. 03

O projeto toma todas as medidas necessárias para integrar a comunidade de maneira eficaz às dinâmicas sociais e econômicas da capital através da renovação de sua rede viária e da implantação de um sistema coeso de articulação de seus espaços públicos. As vias de circulação internas e externas à comunidade asseguram um acesso rápido e confortável a outras comunidades e ao Centro da cidade de Cabinda. O projeto também inclui a construção de inúmeras novas unidades residenciais para famílias que viviam em condições inadequadas, ou cujas casas estejam em áreas de risco. O princípio fundamental do projeto é o de explorar as oportunidades oferecidas pelas condições físico-espaciais da comunidade ao máximo, potencializando a vivacidade dos espaços públicos já utilizados e reconhecidos pela população local. Deste modo, a riqueza prévia da comunidade não á apenas mantida, mas fortalecida. Diversos edifício públicos também estão sendo projetados e terão papéis decisivos no processo de estruturação urbana da comunidade.

towards effective changes in the slum’s urban situation by designing proper infrastructure networks and a cohesive system of public spaces. The circulation routes within and toward the slums will enable fast and comfortable connections to other neighborhoods and to Cabinda’s downtown area. The plan also includes the construction of several new houses for the families who lived in extremely fragile conditions, and whose houses will have to me removed due to construction

works. The fundamental principle of the plan is to explore the existing spatial framework of the slum to the most, providing added livelihood to public areas already in use by the local population. Thus, the social richness of their community is not only maintained, but boosted. Many public buildings are also being designed and will play an important role in the regeneration process. 05

A Colônia Juliano Moreira é atualmente uma extensa área do município do Rio de Janeiro, reservada as unidades hospitalares de saúde mental que ainda se encontram em funcionamento. Ela está englobada pela Área de Proteção Ambiental do Maciço da Pedra Branca e do Morro Dois Irmãos e pela Área de Proteção Histórica do Núcleo Histórico da Colônia Juliano Moreira. Nos últimos anos, nota-se um gradual desuso das unidades hospitalares e a ampliação das favelas adjacentes e loteamentos informais de antigos funcionários e familiares. O projeto objetiva a coibir e proteger as áreas de nascentes de rios importantes e um relevante patrimônio histórico e cultural. Consiste na implantação de um novo bairro, de baixa e média densidade, urbanização das comunidades interiores e regularização fundiária dos loteamentos informais.

The ‘Colônia Juliano Moreira’ slum was established in the area of a former sugar mill farm that afterwards became a mental care settlement. Today, there are 8 different communities (favelas) in the area, with approximately 25,000 inhabitants. Despite its urban occupation, it still preserves some of its rural aspects, which are extremely valorized by its inhabitants. Historic buildings from the sugar mill farm are also a strong presence in the area, even though they present very bad conditions and inadequate occupation. This project intends to create a new paradigm of residential neighborhood, by balancing

Finalizada em 1943, a estação de trem Central do Brasil, no Rio de Janeiro, foi batizada de acordo com o seu propósito original, o de ser o mais importante hub de transporte do Brasil. Estatísticas relacionadas à Central do Brasil mostram um cenário futuro bastante assustador, a não ser que intervenções radicais sejam propostas para o local. Este projeto tira vantagem da monumentalidade da própria Central para propor intervenções igualmente monumentais, não para contrastar e se opor, mas para domesticar e equalizar sua situação atual.

In this project we take on the site’s monumentality with interventions that are equally monumental, and use this feature to domesticate and equalize the current situation, not to clash and contrast. This project takes the concourse of the station out, and the street in: exo- and endo-. It is based on the redesign of the station’s surrounding urban fabric, closely interweaving it with a large-scale and continuous canopy that expands its main concourse, connecting different areas on the same level. No lugar de reforçar os limites da estação, em contraste com os espaços públicos dos arredores, este projeto leva o saguão da estação para o exterior e o espaço da rua para o interior: exo- e endo-. O projeto é baseado no redesenho cuidadoso da malha urbana que circunda a estação, associando-se a uma grande marquise contínua que expande o saguão principal da estação, conectando diferentes áreas em um mesmo nível.

The new urban tissue around the station allows for more diverse connections between Downtown and the neighborhoods on the hills (favelas). The axis created by the canopy culminates at two key-elements: a linear park climbing up the hill, and an elevator cluster.

Parque del Lago is not merely a landscape design challenge, nor its scale allows us to conceptually reduce its features to deal with a simple park. This new territory is a metropolitan entity and its anatomy should allow for a myriad of adaptations: urban, natural and architectural. The sudden absence of the airport will leave a void – a hiatus – in the urban fabric, that needs to be re-stitched. Thus, a key-concept for the park is based on transforming its edges into linear public spaces that do not connect the park through specific spots, but multiply its entrance possibilities. Like a metropolitan boardwalk, the edges of the park will be an intensively used urban space, whose qualities will be unfolded throughout the park and will activate different uses and environments within it. Unfolding the edges create a mesh permeated by membranes of tension, where the different programs and equipments of the park take place.

O Parque del Lago não é um mero desafio de paisagismo. Sua escala não nos permitiu que reduzíssemos sua problematização para lidar com um simples parque urbano. Este novo território é uma entidade metropolitana e, por isso, sua anatomia deve promover diferentes tipos de adaptação e transformações: urbanas, naturais e arquitetônicas. A repentina ausência do aeroporto deixará um hiato na malha urbana que necessita ser cuidadosamente recosturada. Desta forma, o conceito fundamental do parque baseia-se na transformação de suas bordas em espaços púbicos lineares que não conectam o parque em pontos específicos, mas multiplicam suas possibilidades de entrada e conexões. Como um “calçadão” metropolitano, as bordas do parque se tornarão um novo espaço público relevante na cidade de Quito e terão suas qualidades desdobradas para o interior do parque, ativando diferentes usos e ambientes. O desdobrar das bordas cria uma malha permeada por superfícies de tensão, onde os diferentes programas e equipamentos do parque estão localizados.

In summary, the idea behind this term is that architects should have more proactive standings toward the contexts where they operate. However, the scope of this term does not incorporate any kind of uncommissioned projects. Bouman’s concept dwells on the idea that ‘unsolicited architecture’ (or urbanism in this specific example)

O CAMPO em parceria com a arquiteta holandesa Zineb Seghrouchni (OKRA) participou de um workshop de 24h organizado pelo Studio X Rio da Columbia University, GSAPP e pelo NAi (Instituto de Arquitetura da Holanda). A partir do tema “unsolicited architecture” o CAMPO foi convidado a pensar em propostas para a região em que o escritório está localizado, o bairro da Lapa. Este bairro – zona boêmia periférica ao centro financeiro da cidade – tem passado por um processo acelerado de recuperação, para o bem e para o mal. De caráter extremamente informal e popular, a Lapa tornou-se símbolo de um estilo de vida noturna profundamente carioca e também caótico. A figura do “malandro carioca” surge como metonímia deste contexto sóciocultural, tendo a estrutura física do bairro com seu rico, porém decrépito, casario eclético como pano de fundo de um jogo simbólico extremamente forte e relevante para a cidade. Com o “estilo de vida carioca” definindo-se por uma cultura de praia muito forte durante o dia, este possui uma versão noturna que encontra na Lapa seu signo máximo de representação.
