“We have come a long way. We have changed the course and the way we teach. We went from a traditional way of teaching to innovate in the classroom. Teachers use the computer to prepare their lessons and also teach with this new educational tool. Families have also benefited. Now, there is a computer at home, an opportunity that this community did not have before. This year, the achievements have been very significant. We won various competitions that the Ministry of Education organize each year. For example, a 6th grade student won the first place at the municipal level in Language and Literature and we got the second place in Math at the departmental level. We also got second place for the best teacher competition for the municipality of Tola.”

This school was part of the Self-Sustainable Schools Plan (EA Plan) aimed to develop capacities in the educational community in order to lead the process of collecting and maintaining the XO laptops the Fundación Zamora Terán deploys each year. Thomás González, who is a school parent and works for the school as a security guard, participated in the process. From the beginning, he was interested in the processes involving the XO laptops and was present in all stages of maintenance. His eyes were filled with joy when repair time came. With great discipline and a lot of dedication, he followed every step to change a screen. When done, his expression said “I thought I wouldn’t be able to do it ... but I did” with a smile of satisfaction.
