CORE VALUES A Community of Faith As a Catholic community, we host the experience of The Frances Xavier Warde School (FXW). We proclaim the goodness of God and everything we teach is rooted in the Catholic tradition. We welcome the gifts that the interfaith members of our community contribute to our mission. We encourage all members of our community to evaluate their cultural values in the context of faith. A Community that is Purposefully and Intentionally Diverse Chicago is a city of neighborhoods. By inviting all the neighborhoods into our school we show the value and respect toward all cultures. We seek out diversity and rejoice in the gifts that an inclusive community has in a global society. A Community of Service We put our faith into action by reaching out to serve others, especially those in need. Students and their families perform service projects for both the local community and the community beyond our borders. A Community of Thinkers and Leaders in an Academically Enriched Environment The FXW community prepares students to be leaders in the world. The education is rigorous and inextricably linked to becoming a person of faith and character. The program of studies is project based, progressive and helps the student think critically in the pursuit of excellence.

LEADERSHIP A message from FXW’s Board Chair FXW has been a “game changer” in the educational community for over two decades. The School that began at Presidential Towers in 1989 has made a significant impact in the lives of many students and their families. We have prepared leaders, critical thinkers and lifelong learners while remaining true to our mission. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to thank our FXW community for hosting the wonderful year-long celebration, noted in these pages, recognizing the School’s 25th Anniversary and its past, present and future. 2014-2015 was an exciting year which brought several changes in our School’s leadership. It is my distinct honor to acknowledge and thank long-time members of the Board of Trustees, Michael Robillard, Lisa Ruble-Murphy, Louis Portugal and Christopher Valenti, for their years of dedication, vision and willingness to take risks in guiding FXW to success. I would also like to thank Mary Reiling, Head of School, for her nine years of service to our community. Her leadership inspired FXW to continually advance. During her tenure, we have seen consistent growth in enrollment, increased community spirit through the formation of organizations like PGAB and PATH, and most recently, in successfully securing the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) accreditation. During their visit, the ISACS team commended the School’s clear mission, strong sense of identity, vibrant community and the dedication of administrators, faculty and the Board of Trustees. I would like to thank the faculty, staff, board and members of the self-study steering committee for the labor of love seen in the document presented to the visiting committee. The strong foundation recognized by our ISACS peers placed us in a position to attract many qualified candidates during our national search for the next Head of School. A long and extensive process, I would like to thank the search committee for their diligence and dedication in helping to ensure such a wonderful outcome with the announcement of Mr. Michael Kennedy. His outstanding reputation and depth of experience will serve FXW well as we move into the future. As we close a quarter century of educational excellence, I thank you for believing in and supporting our vision and mission and for your ongoing commitment as FXW moves ahead. I look forward to working with our board members and school community in honoring the best of the past, while taking the necessary steps to face the challenges of the future with fortitude and confidence. Warmest Regards,
Mark Skender Board Chair 4

THE FRANCES XAVIER WARDE SCHOOL ANNUAL REPORT
25TH ANNIVERSARY In 1989, Maggie Daley approached Father Jack Wall, Old St. Patrick’s Church, with a bold vision. She wanted to create a school where children would receive an academically excellent education along with a foundation to guide them to become hardworking individuals armed with a strong moral compass. More importantly, Maggie Daley hoped to create an environment where all families in the school would embrace and accept all faiths, all racial and socioeconomic backgrounds and all the things that make us unique. The boldest part of her vision would be that 30 percent of the School’s students would receive financial assistance. Father Wall gladly accepted this challenge and with Sister Mary Ellen Caron, as the School’s first principal, the first Kindergarten class opened in the fall of the same year. Jump ahead 25 years, where FXW has expanded to offer a full Preschool through 8th grade education. We educate over 970 students and boast a strong community in our city. We were thrilled to celebrate our 25th Anniversary during the 2014-2015 academic year:
DAY OF SERVICE Since the founding of the School, service to others has been a core value of FXW. So what could be a more fitting way to start our 25th year than coming together to serve the community? More than 450 families participated in a voluntary day of service on October 19, 2014 at the UIC Pavilion. Representatives from ten partner organizations provided onsite service opportunities to reach out to those in need. FXW families made scarves for the homeless, created greeting cards for children at Ann and Robert H. Lurie’s Children’s Hospital, and collected donated books for Big Shoulders’ school libraries.

PAST PARENT POTLUCK Alumni parents were invited to the Old St. Pat’s campus on September 26, 2014 to reconnect with old friends and learn about the tremendous growth and accomplishments of FXW over the past 25 years. “We had a great time reconnecting with old friends, sharing memories and enjoying the familiar surroundings of the OSP campus”, remarked former parent Clare Hennessy Sabones.
WINDOW CLINGS PROJECT Sharing the vision of FXW on both campuses was a large part of this year of celebration. By incorporating new window clings on both campus buildings, students, families, alumni, friends and the community at large, were able to visualize our values and priorities. Clings represent the long standing tradition of academic excellence and share our message of faith, rigor and play to learn.
FLAT JAGUAR PROJECT Many current and former Jaguars left the classroom in FY15 for learning and cultural experiences around the world. As part of the 25th Anniversary celebrations, Flat Jaguar was a way for our community to share in their intellectual and cultural adventures in Chicago and around the globe through photos, via social media and digital sharing.
ALUMNI REUNION The Thanksgiving weekend proved the perfect time to bring FXW alumni together to celebrate FXW’s 25 year history. On November 28, 2014, more than 64 alumni representing class years ranging from 1999-2007 gathered at The Kerryman Chicago to reunite with old friends, share some laughs and pass around the Flat Jaguar. One attendee said, “I had a great time and it was so fun to see friends from years past.”

25 ON THE 25TH For our current students, celebrating 25 years of FXW took place in more ordinary ways. On three special school days in September, February and March, the 25th was an opportunity to unite students through cross campus visits or web time. A number of activities were planned for each grade level. FXW alumni made connections on these days by reading with OSP preschoolers or sharing their post FXW experiences with the HNC 4th Graders.
This yearlong celebration could not have been executed without the participation and support of so many current and past FXW students, parents and friends. We especially recognize the planning committee and general volunteers for their extensive efforts and dedication to these events and activities. 25th Anniversary Co-Chairs

CHILDREN AT THE CROSSROADS FOUNDATION Founded in 1990, the Children at the Crossroads Foundation (CATC) supports FXW’s mission of economic diversity through endowed and annual scholarship funding. Through the generosity of corporations, foundations and individuals, FXW receives funding to offer needbased scholarships to 30-percent of our current population. Many FXW families participate in CATC development efforts by playing in the annual golf outing, making contributions to the Scholarship Sunday Appeals, and attending the annual Scholarship Dinner and Ultimate Family Playdate or other events throughout the year. The FXW community is grateful for CATC’s partnership and support. For more information about CATC visit

Parents at the Heart (PATH) Parents at the Heart (PATH) is a committee that supports the mission of the School by working with faculty, staff and families to enhance and encourage spirituality through personal support and community building events. Each class has a parent representative that works with the teacher to organize support to families during times of illness, death, births and any life-altering event where the family could use a Good Samaritan. The committee also hosts four key family events each year: Fun Fest, Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day, Mardi Gras and the Mother’s Day Luncheon. WAYS TO GIVE SUMMARY FXW, like most independent schools, relies on your support to sustain its academic programming, provide for facilities maintenance and retain outstanding faculty. Tuition does not cover the full cost of an FXW education and we turn to our entire community for involvement and support. With your continued generosity, we are able to provide the unique programs and support the faculty and staff who make The Frances Xavier Warde School experience special. We invite you to join us in our fundraising efforts especially through your support of: n The Annual Fund, the cornerstone of our fundraising efforts. n Gala, our annual benefit dinner and auction. n C hildren at the Crossroads Foundation (CATC), an independent 501(c)3 charitable organization that supports FXW’s mission of economic diversity through endowed and annual scholarships. For more information on how you can give to FXW visit www.fxw.org/supporting-fxw
