It’s time to reconnect

With more than ever to explore on the ISE showfloor, it’s time to reconnect with all that the AV industry has to offer, says Mike Blackman, managing director, Integrated Systems Events

The tagline for ISE 2025 is ‘Connection restored’. We want you to reconnect with innovative technologies, with your industry peers and partners, with your own career development, and with the amazing experiences that this industry creates, day in, day out.

As I write these words in mid-December we have just passed the 1,500-exhibitor mark. And having opened up Hall 8.1 of Fira Gran Via for the first time in our history, we’ve exceeded 75,000 square metres of stand space. These figures are both records for the show.

All of this means that there are more companies for you to explore – from leading brands to boutique specialists – more technologies to discover, and more connections to make.

Hall 8.1 is an extension of the MultiTechnology Zone, and it’s also where you’ll find exciting features including the new Esports Arena and the reinvented Robotics and Drone Arena. And just downstairs in Hall 8.0 are the Audio Demo Rooms – increased to 19 in number.

‘Innovation has always been a key pillar of ISE, and this year we’ve increased our focus on startups and investment’

Innovation has always been a key pillar of ISE, and this year we’ve increased our focus on startups and investment. There are over 80 startups exhibiting in our new Innovation Park in Congress Square. Alongside this is the Pitching Stage, run by venture capital specialists Plug and Play, where startups will pitch alongside a full programme of sessions about investment and business growth.

We’ll be delving further into the financing of innovation in our new Investor Forum, as well as exploring intercontinental business opportunities with the return of the European Latin American AV Forum.

That’s not all that’s new in our content programme. Working with our co-owner AVIXA,

we’re supplementing our six vertical market Summits with five content Tracks that address key industry areas and megatrends. And to enable you to attend your pick of sessions, we’ve introduced Content Day Passes to give you complete freedom of the Summit and Track programmes.

Our other co-owner, CEDIA, is offering four days of content for residential AV professionals: the three-day Smart Home Technology Conference, followed by four in-depth Workshops on the Friday.

We also have an extensive programme of additional content. We are delighted to bring you two wonderful keynote speakers at ISE 2025. Our Opening Keynote will be given on Tuesday 4 February by digital analyst, futurist and AI authority Brian Solis. He’ll talk about what our industry needs to do to maximise the opportunities that AI brings us.

The following day, the Creative Keynote will be given by digital artist Quayola, who will discuss how AV technology enables him to realise his creative vision. This ties in with his projection mapping on the Casa Batlló in Barcelona the weekend before ISE; he will also be showing another work on the South Access Welcome screen. Both keynotes will take place upstairs in room CC4.1.

Meanwhile, on the show floor, you can find content sessions at AVIXA Xchange LIVE, the Smart Home Technology Stage, the new Live Events Stage, the AVIXA TV Studio, and the aforementioned Pitching Stage; there are also Spanish-language Congreso AVIXA sessions in room CC5.3.

An exciting new initiative this year is Fast Forward Friday, which brings together half a dozen different initiatives from AVIXA, CEDIA and ISE partners, all related to topics around the areas of recruitment, talent development and career paths.

Local students are participating in the first ever ISE Hackathon on the Thursday and Friday, working intensely to address real business issues; they will present their projects, and winners will be rewarded, on the Pitching Stage as part of Fast Forward Friday. With all these new developments, we also have more tools to save you time in finding exactly what you’re looking for. The official show app offers point-to-point navigation in the Fira for the first time. And you can also use the app – or the website – to ask a question to dAVe, our new AI chatbot; he can tell you anything you need to know about ISE 2025. We’re sure you’ll feel fully reconnected by the end of your visit. Enjoy ISE 2025!

Prepare for an AI-defined future

Globally acclaimed digital analyst, author and visionary Brian Solis will take to the stage at ISE 2025 to present this year’s Opening Keynote on Tuesday 4 February.

Known for his profound insights into the intersection of technology, business and culture, Solis will share his vision on how the pro-AV and systems integration industry can change and innovate through the latest developments in artificial intelligence.

Solis’ background as a futurist and AI expert began with a move to Silicon Valley in the 1990s where he experienced the shift from enterprise hardware to software and the rise of the consumer internet.

“It was all very fascinating to me,” recalls Solis. “What I had noticed was that Silicon Valley had a tendency to talk about the tech – speeds, bandwidth, capacity, capabilities. But what Silicon Valley didn’t do a good job of was understanding the impact of that technology and communicating it as a solution or as a benefit.

“By engaging people in a way that was transformative, I started to do research and I started to understand the impacts of technology on people. I started to reverse engineer those impacts and then work it into go-to-market for the technology companies that I was working with.”

FUTURE PROOFING

In more recent years, however, the accelerating rate of innovation became a challenge for Solis, leading him to explore futurism.

“Technology became so fast and furious that I found myself reacting to what was

‘[AI] isn’t just another technology wave. This is a transformative and incredibly disruptive wave that is just beginning’

next, versus anticipating what was next – and that was when I implemented the practice of futurism: understanding the emerging trends, understanding what those trends could mean in particular scenarios and applications, understanding what we would do from a strategy perspective should those start to move through the spectrum of adoption, to always anticipate and prepare for those impacts before they happen, and that also became a competitive advantage.”

Not surprisingly, AI, and GenAI in particular, has been an area of

interest for Solis for some time.

“AI has been around for decades. This isn’t just another technology wave. This is a transformative and incredibly disruptive wave that is just beginning. There are a series of AIs that are now going to become a constant. I don’t know the cycle, but I do know the technology of each of those waves and what they could mean for businesses and how they’re going to change businesses, how they’re going to change behaviours, how they’re going to create new types of products.”

This transformation, and why we all need to become everyday futurists, will form part of Solis’ ISE keynote.

“When you have an entire set of products and services that are going to profoundly change because of artificial intelligence, understanding how to become an everyday futurist, to anticipate not only these new product categories, but how you’re going

to structure your services around these new products, how you’re going to price these services around the potential needs of customers and anticipating what those needs and opportunities could be so that your business is proactive, that your modelling is proactive, that your upskilling, your learning and unlearning is proactive, is crucial,” he adds.

“AI is actually happening and there are a lot of people who are just waiting to see what’s going to happen, but there is no saviour who’s going to come down to the world and say, ‘here’s what you need to do with AI to change your life for the better’. It is an opportunity, an inflection point, for each and every one of us, to see the world differently.”

The Opening Keynote, entitled ‘Rethinking Organisations for an AI-defined Future’, will take place at 13:00 on Tuesday 4 February in room CC4.1.

Pushing creative boundaries

Quayola, digital artist

For Italian digital artist Quayola, who will present this year’s Creative Keynote at ISE, using technology to enable creativity has long been of interest.

“As a kid, at some point in the mid-90s, my brother bought a computer and I got really into learning and following him, using this computer. I remember experimenting with the architectural software of the time. And so I think that’s when I started getting quite inspired by this idea of using technology as a creative tool, but in a quite different way.”

Technology has, of course, changed significantly since the 1990s, but Quayola’s interest in exploring what’s possible has not.

“Of course, we are experimenting with a lot of emerging technologies in the studio, testing a lot of systems and software. But I also like to apply a little bit of brakes on how I use technology. And, for me, it is very important that ultimately, when you look back at the last 15, 20 years of my work that you see a very clear thread, despite this everchanging technology and ever-changing context. It’s also nice that technology brings you to unexpected places.”

NATURE AS A VEHICLE

In addition to his keynote presentation, Quayola will also be presenting a unique mapping on the façade of Casa Batlló of his work Arborescent the weekend before ISE and delivering a showcase performance of Promenade at the Fira South Access Welcome Screen.

Explaining the concept behind Arborescent, he says: “Arborescent sits within a larger body of work of a theme that I’ve been exploring over many years which deals with the tradition of landscape paintings and, more specifically, the observation of nature within such tradition.

“I really love the idea that nature becomes a vehicle to discover new aesthetics. When I was invited to do the Casa Batlló project, I started engaging more with Gaudí’s work and what struck me was that I saw that very same pattern within Gaudí’s work – this idea of observing nature as a vehicle to draw inspiration from. You can clearly see in his designs this idea that they’re almost grown

‘Technology brings you to unexpected places’

rather than being constructed or designed.

“Arborescent is a study on computergenerated simulations of tree-like structures. In fact, ‘arborescent’, the term, means a structure that simulates a tree-like structure, not necessarily in botanical terms, but also in computational terms. It is used in data and in several other things. It’s this idea of structures that somehow take inspiration from that.”

Quayola’s keynote will explore the creative journey behind the Casa Batlló projection mapping, a project that blends artistic vision with cutting-edge technology to create an immersive experience.

He continues: “My keynote presentation will explain the inspirations and methods which shaped Arborescent. Discussing the crucial relationship between the physical and digital worlds in my art, I will share insights from my unique expeditions to capture natural phenomena, which inspire my digital creations.

“By showcasing examples of my work, both digital and physical, I aim to illustrate the seamless transition between these realms. Additionally, I will touch on my explorations in sculptures, robotics, and other artistic endeavours, emphasising the importance of technology in enhancing and expanding creative expression.”

For his showcase on the South Access Welcome Screen, Quayola will present Promenade, a video piece exploring the logic and aesthetics of computer-vision systems in autonomous vehicles.

He explains: “Promenade is part of this ongoing exploration about observing nature through machines. So in different projects, there’s different strategies for how I go and make these observations, and I think Promenade was quite a particular experiment, where there was a combination of drones and lidar scans.

“High precision laser scanners were done from the ground and then drone footage was taken of the same areas that were originally scanned and we juxtaposed the two. So in a way, yes, it’s a machine that is wandering around this forest and observing it in different ways. But it’s also connected to Arborescent, and I think it was a nice counterpart to that work.”

Quayola’s Creative Keynote presentation will take place at 15:30 on Wednesday 5 February in room CC4.1.

Boosting awareness and accessibility

In what amounts to a significant enhancement of ISE’s content programme, co-owner AVIXA has revealed details of several new initiatives that will improve the awareness and accessibility of the show’s various summits.

Headlining the changes is the introduction of ISE Tracks. “There are large universal themes that cross all over our summits and content at the show, and we’ve made a special effort to make them visible via the ISE Tracks –new in 2025,” says Pam Taggart, vice president of content creation at AVIXA. “Essentially, Tracks identify topics that deal with macro themes in the industry.”

AI, audio, cybersecurity, retail and sustainability are the ISE Tracks for 2025. These topics will be touched on within the programmes of multiple summits – such as Smart Building Summit, Smart Workplace Summit and Digital Signage Summit – but will also be highlighted in standalone sessions throughout the show.

STRUCTURAL CHANGES

Taggart highlights multiple other “structural changes” to this year’s programme, including the introduction of Content Day Passes that are designed to allow attendees more flexibility to attend what they want and sample from different topics in a single day; the Congreso AVIXA programme, which will offer daily content for Spanishspeaking attendees in CC5.3; the inclusion of Hall 8.1, which includes the AVIXA TV Studio, the Esports Arena and the Robotics and Drone Arena; and new showfloor features such as

‘ISE is a direction-setting event, and we are excited to see how these discussions will shape the future of the AV industry’

the Live Events Stage in Hall 6, a Connected Classroom in Hall 2, the Innovation Park for startups, and a Pitching Stage.

“It all adds up to create the largest free content programme to date with ISE,” says Taggart, who notes that AVIXA is also working with ISE to produce an “extensive showfloor tour programme, including solutionled tours focused on AV broadcast, smart workplaces, education technologies and more. “We’ll also have ‘FirstTimers’ tours to help those navigating their first ISE, and Mega Trends and Show Floor Features tours,” she adds.

AVIXA has also scheduled a busy programme of Xchange LIVE interactive sessions in Hall 3, touching on topics including cybersecurity, CTS, AI and wellness. Highlighted mixers and meet-ups include one aimed at AV marketers to discuss current challenges and future opportunities (15:00 Tuesday), and a session for all women in AV (15:00 Wednesday), followed by an expanded reception for members, councils, volunteers and leadership from 16:00-18:00.

The summit programme is once again populated with prominent speakers, including Matthew Marson, MD EMEA,

Advisory of JLL at the Smart Building Summit, Pantheon Lab co-founder Tina Tse at the Digital Signage Summit, European Union Digital Education Hub squad leader Cristina Obae at the Education Technology Summit, and IFMA director of research Matt Tucker discussing AI integration at the Smart Workplace Summit.

Talking of AI, Taggart remarks: “I don’t think it will surprise anyone to see cybersecurity and sustainability right up there with AI as topics that merit special attention across ISE 2025, especially with regulatory changes in the works in Europe. In addition, we’re still navigating the AV broadcast convergence, finding best practices that bridge this new way of working, and getting those documented to share –versus all finding our own paths. Plus, I expect the showfloor will be buzzing with speculation around the implications of the current political and economic environment – and how that will play out in the AV industry.”

With so much change occurring within and beyond the industry, it’s certain that “people will want to see the opportunities and challenges and gather as much intel as they can during the key week of ISE, so AVIXA is holding several spots for Sean Wargo, VP market intelligence, and team to bring the latest data from AVIXA market research. ISE is a direction-setting event, and we are excited to see how these discussions will shape the future of the AV industry,” she adds.

For full details of AVIXA’s content schedule, please visit www.avixa.org/ise.

On the right track(s)

Taking place over three days (Tuesday 4 February to Thursday 6 February), the Smart Home Technology Conference continues to be a cornerstone of the ISE content programme. However, this year sees a distinctive shift in approach with different topics highlighted more clearly in the form of dedicated tracks.

“We’ve decided to position our education into different tracks so that attendees can more easily locate the sessions that match their areas of interest,” says Paul Dolenc, who is CEDIA’s vice president of education and training. “So, for example, we have tracks for lighting and wellness, business strategies and project management, power management, home cinema and immersive audio, and so on.”

Given the expected prominence of artificial intelligence in the industry discussion at ISE 2025, the conference will also feature a whole day dedicated to AI. Of this track, Dolenc says the intention is to “feature some testimonials from integrators and other individuals in order to gain better knowledge and understanding of this new technology as it relates to the smart home”.

WIDE-RANGING PROGRAMME

Other highlights include a full day of sessions delivered entirely in Spanish; a preview of the CEDIA RP1 standard, which establishes a framework for “essential and useful data” that manufacturers should provide about speakers and amplifiers; and an examination of the ‘lighting turf wars’ that are seeing the fight for

‘[This is] the most content that we’ve ever had at an ISE event – and I think more new speakers, topics and sessions than we’ve had before as well’

control over lighting intensifying as high-end residential projects become increasingly low-voltage in nature.

On the subject of energyefficient smart homes, Ken Erdmann, director of technical education programmes at

CEDIA, will delve into the new opportunities in alternative energy and storage. Dolenc also points to the participation of Arnaud Laborie, co-founder and CEO of Trinnov Audio, in a session entitled ‘Room Modes Elimination and Low Frequency

Extension with Active Acoustics and Subwoofer Placement’.

CEDIA will also be hosting four full-day workshops on the Friday of the show, with the Design Thinking Workshop –described as “one of CEDIA’s most popular offerings ever” –returning as a full-day event for the first time since ISE relocated from Amsterdam to Barcelona. In addition, there will also be a busy programme of free-to-attend sessions on the Smart Home Technology Stage in Hall 2.

“There will be 15 sessions starting on Tuesday and running through to Friday,” notes Dolenc. “Some of the sessions I’d highlight include ‘Integrators and Architects Forever – A beneficial friendship’; a session by Walt Zerbe [CEDIA’s senior director of technology and standards] about the effect of different lighting levels and colours on the body; and Christopher Mullins and Adam Dover from Sony, who will be considering the transformation of the AV industry in a sustainable world.”

All in all, it adds up to “the most content that we’ve ever had an ISE event – and I think more new speakers, topics and sessions than we’ve had before as well”, he adds.

For his part, Dolenc is looking forward to having plenty of forward-looking conversations at ISE, including about the importance of ensuring the industry can attract the new influx of talent it needs to carry on evolving.

“It’s very important to be able to get the message out there to the next generation that this is a growing and exciting industry,” he says. “It’s a big part of helping to keep things moving forward.”

A time of transformation

Bob Snyder, editor-in-chief, Channel Media Europe

The Smart Building Summit, taking place on the first day of ISE 2025, is set to explore the digital transformation reshaping the built environment. The summit’s theme, ‘Welcome to the Digital Transformation of the Built Environment’, will highlight how technology is revolutionising building operations and driving value for owners, landlords and occupants.

The transformation of smart buildings gained momentum during the pandemic, thanks to technologies such as air quality systems, remote work tools and automation. As businesses bring employees back to offices, the focus has shifted towards more personalised environments with customisable systems tailored to individual needs, whether by company, department, or user.

“This progress is powered by innovations such as advanced sensors, faster networks and stronger interoperability,” says Bob Snyder, editor-in-chief at Channel Media Europe and Smart Building Summit chair. “Interoperability, the ability for technologies to work seamlessly together, is essential for smart building systems to avoid fragmentation. Open standards ensure compatibility across systems, preventing vendor lock-in and allowing buildings to evolve with rapid technological advancements.”

One key advancement is the digital twin – a virtual replica of a building that simulates realworld conditions. Digital twins enable building managers to optimise performance, anticipate maintenance needs and improve efficiency.

Venture capital investment is also accelerating technological

progress in smart buildings, with 5G mobile networks playing a central role.

Snyder explains: “5G enables high-speed, low-latency connectivity for applications like video analytics, autonomous robots and augmented reality. These innovations improve security, efficiency and user experience within buildings.

“AI is further enhancing building systems, enabling proactive management. AI algorithms analyse IoT data to detect trends, optimise performance and predict issues. These systems empower building managers to make data-driven decisions and offer personalised assistance through AI chatbots and virtual assistants.”

MULTIPLE BENEFITS

However, smart buildings are not just about automation; they are designed to enhance occupant quality of life while ensuring cost-effectiveness for owners and landlords. This shift reflects market demands for flexible, energy-efficient and peoplecentric spaces in a connected world.

“The Smart Building Summit will delve into these trends, with a focus on the intersection of business and technology,” Snyder adds. “Attendees will hear from industry leaders about how smart buildings are reshaping workspaces and organisational dynamics. Key topics will include the accelerating digital transformation driven by IoT, AI and sustainability initiatives.

“The summit will explore how buildings can better align with the digital transformation needs of the businesses that occupy them. This dual transformation offers opportunities for

‘The summit will explore how buildings can better align with the digital transformation needs of the businesses that occupy them’

technology integrators and manufacturers to meet the evolving market demand.”

The summit will also address the legislative and regulatory landscape, with updates on the EU’s Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

“Speakers at the summit include industry experts such as Charles Anderson from CRA, who will explore AI’s role in creating human-centric environments,” Snyder reveals. “Ken Dooley from Granlund will address data flow and automation in sustainability reporting, while Casto Cañavate from KNX will discuss the impact of the 2024 EPBD recast

on smart building design and renovation.”

“It’s the perfect opportunity for owners, builders, integrators, architects, commercial real estate executives and engineering consultants to converge for the big picture of one of the world’s most important industries,” adds Snyder. “Whereas most ISE summits take a subset of ISE technologies, we bring the higher level view of the total built environment. That makes us a must-attend summit for any significant integrator.”

Smart Building Summit runs from 10:30-18:30 on Tuesday 4 February in room CC5.1.

Disruptive tech and trends in the spotlight

During a period of unprecedented change in so many parts of the AV business, it seems entirely logical that the 2025 edition of Digital Signage Summit (DSS) – to be held from 10:30-14:30 on Wednesday 5 February in room CC4.1 – will take a deep-dive into several of the trends and technologies currently disrupting the digital signage industry.

From ePaper to new advances in LED, the summit will “look at how digital signage is being impacted by all these new technologies, as well as what it means for integrators and vendors in terms of changing their offerings and business models to address the changing needs”, says Florian Rotberg, managing director of invidis consulting and co-curator and host of DSS, alongside his invidis consulting colleague Stefan Schieker.

In keeping with the anticipated artificial intelligence theme present at many ISE summits and meetings this year, AI will be a key topic at DSS. A session entitled ‘Prompting Signage – How AI is disrupting digital signage’ will feature speakers including Tina Tse, co-founder, Pantheon Lab, and Craig Francis, digital signage partner manager, Google ChromeOS, discussing the opportunities and influence of AI on digital signage. Then, in ‘The Next Frontier – digital humans and generative AI in retail digital signage’, speakers including Pantheon Lab co-founder and CEO Ivan Lau will explore real-world examples

of AI-powered virtual shopping assistants, personalised product recommendations, and interactive brand ambassadors.

“We’re already seeing how generative AI is changing the industry in terms of creating and translating new content and being able to localise it with different information and artwork,” says Rotberg. “But what’s also interesting is how AI is allowing integrators and customers to really analyse the data they get through the systems, as well as enabling the hardware.”

CYBER CONCERNS

Cybersecurity will also be prominent in the DSS programme. “Ten years ago, digital signage was a siloed installation and wasn’t usually connected to any backend systems, so security wasn’t a big issue,” says Rotberg. “But today that has completely changed and digital signage, like other systems, is fully connected to everything in the backend, meaning that all relevant data is more or less connected to the digital signage. It means that digital signage now has the same security requirement as an enterprise resource planning system, so the software and integration have to be fully certified and you have to make sure there are no security issues.”

Discussing this subject in a session entitled ‘Navigating Cyber-Security Risks in Digital Signage’ will be speakers including Jeff Hastings, CTO of BrightSign, and Jason Cremins, founder and CEO of Signagelive.

Sustainability is also set to be a recurring topic of this year’s event, with Visionect sales &

‘One of the great things about DSS is that it’s very compact… and it gives people a very useful update about all the latest trends affecting our business’

marketing project manager Magdalena Bogatinovska among the speakers in a session on ePaper (EPD) – the energysaving, high contrast technology that is widely expected to have a transformative effect on the area of the market requiring non-video content.

Noting that an EPD system can typically run on the same battery for two years, Rotberg predicts that “ePaper will be a game-changer. Currently it’s only available in sizes up to 40in, but in the next few years that will likely go up to 70in or 80in. Also, prices are still very high, but we expect those to come down fast, so there’s a lot of potential.”

With Rotberg and Schieker

set to outline the latest data about the industry in their introductory session, the scene is set for another edition of an event that traditionally draws one of the largest summit audiences at ISE. “One of the great things about DSS is that it’s very compact, at just four hours, and it gives people a very useful update about all the latest trends affecting our business –and at the start of the year, too. I think those are some of the key reasons behind its continued popularity,” concludes Rotberg.

Digital Signage Summit runs from 10:30-14:30 on Wednesday 5 February in room CC4.1.

Focusing on the future of education technology

AI and data are the biggest themes running through institutional strategies and edtech product roadmaps across the world, according to Dr Gill Ferrell, chair of the Education Technology Summit at ISE, which takes place on Wednesday 5 February. “We have gone from ‘content is king’ to ‘context is key’. We realise the value of our data and want to unlock its secrets to personalise and enhance the learning experience, and AI can help with that,” she says.

“We are still only two years into the ‘Generative AI revolution’ however, and while the sector recognises that it’s here to stay, the EU AI Act that came into force in June 2024 means we are still proceeding with caution, as many educational uses fall into the ‘high risk’ regulated area.”

Sciences’ facility, including the Data Theatre area, the Data Collaboration area and the Data Interaction lab and find out how the choice of technologies helped realise a unique vision.

INTELLIGENT DIGITAL LEARNING

The theme of this year’s summit is ‘Intelligent Digital Learning’, and sessions will be talking not just about how to apply AI, but also how to apply uniquely human skills to improving learning outcomes. “Creativity and associated skills routinely top the list of attributes sought from employees and leaders,” says Ferrell. “Emily Patterson will be joining us from Cambridge University Press and Assessment to lead an interactive session inviting attendees to challenge how we think and provide tips and techniques to use back in the workplace.”

‘We realise the value of our data and want to unlock its secrets to personalise and enhance the learning experience, and AI can help with that’

Implementing AI across the field of education is very different to using it for personal productivity, according to Ferrell, who is excited to see Dominik Lukeš, lead business technologist at AI/ML Support Competency Centre, University of Oxford, deliver a hands-on workshop aimed at education leaders at the summit. “Participants will leave this session empowered to make better decisions and develop strategies to stay ahead in this rapidly evolving landscape,” she says.

Also on the agenda is the value, power and volume of data, and the use of visualisation to make sense of it. “We will be taking a look at the JRCZ Data Science Lab, an innovative participatory learning space that won the 2024 EUNIS Award for Best Overall AV-enabled Education Space,” she adds. Attendees will be taken on a journey through the active and participatory learning spaces of the HZ University of Applied

Those who come to ISE to get a glimpse of the future will be pleased with the summit’s keynote speaker, professor Fridolin Wild.

“Professor Wild, who leads the performance augmentation lab at the Open University, will show some mind-blowing examples of augmented reality and extended reality being used to deliver just-in-time learning in a range of industries including working with the European Astronaut Centre,” she reveals. “One of the really great aspects of Wild’s work is his commitment to open education and he is striving through use of open standards and content to get this type of learning into the mainstream.”

The findings of a European Commissionfunded study into hybrid and digital learning will also be presented by Cristina Obae from the University of Lapland, Finland, who is also a squad leader at the European Digital Education Hub.

“She will be sharing what the researchers

discovered and how far Europe as a whole has moved from simply offering a blend of faceto-face and online learning towards a fluid and learner centred environment,” concludes Ferrell.

The Education Technology Summit is just one aspect of a comprehensive offering for edtech professionals at ISE 2025. The education community will also benefit from the edtech show floor tour, AVIXA Xchange LIVE sessions and the Connected Classroom in Hall 2.

Education Technology Summit runs from 14:00-18:00 on Wednesday 5 February in room CC5.1.

Investing in innovators

Sara Cebria, events project associate, Plug and Play

A brand new space dedicated to startups, Innovation Park is making its debut at ISE 2025 and will be centrally located in Congress Square during the show.

“ISE is one of the best trade shows around, attracting very established and respected companies both big and small, but we noticed last year that the exciting innovation that was present at the show in the form of startups seemed to be dotted around the halls which made it more challenging to find,” explains Sara Cebria, events

rapid growth than on immediate profitability.

“We have been attracting interest from the international community, such as sound and acoustics powerhouse Sound Hub Denmark. We are also hosting more local exhibitors such as the Hub23 Sports Tech hub out of Barcelona; Barcelona Activa; and the Government of Catalonia through its agency for business competitiveness ACCIÓ, that also happens to be organising the ISE Open Innovation Challenge 2025, which is a great initiative.”

project associate at start-up venture capital experts Plug and Play, the catalyst behind this new initiative.

“If you really want to promote innovation, you have to dedicate an area to startups alone, to allow investors to know they will find what they need. That is the purpose of Innovation Park at ISE this year.”

The Innovation Park exhibition area will host up to 100 turnkey promotional pods, a format that has proven effective when deployed at other large events. These will welcome companies that have an emphasis on disruption and entrepreneurship, were founded within the past five years, employ fewer than 100 people, and/or are focused more on

corporations with technology and solutions providers who can help to solve their specific business challenges. Turn to page 46 to find out more.

PITCHES, NETWORKING AND MORE

At Innovation Park, business professionals and potential investors can also attend the Pitching Stage, programmed by Plug and Play across four days, in formats that include round tables and fireside chats.

“We believe Innovation Park will attract people that might not yet have been reached, such as investors, incubators and partners like government entities that are seeking out innovation and may not have come to ISE before,” adds Cebria.

“And, of course, companies that are exhibiting and are well established can also use the Park to consider alternatives to using their own internal resources, such as outsourcing to drive innovation within their own business.”

Innovation Park will also offer a matchmaking and networking lounge to facilitate connections between startups and potential partners and investors, and it will host the first ISE Hackathon along with an evening startup networking event.

“I want to encourage visitors to visit the area. I think they will find a lot of interesting startups, with a lot of innovative solutions

that they might not expect to discover in a very established industry,” concludes Cebria.

“Visitors will meet people with a different outlook on the industry. They will likely find lots of innovative solutions that can help them understand the future of the industry and its ecosystems and they might find support in perhaps unexpected areas. Concentrating this within the same space will bring a lot of value to the show.”

Innovation Park will be located in Congress Square, opposite Halls 4, 5, 6 and 7.

Shaping the face of live events

Stew Hume, editor, TPi Magazine

At ISE 2025, the Live Events Summit, traditionally a paid-for event, will evolve to become the Live Events Stage, open to all attendees for free. This move reflects a growing commitment to inclusivity and fostering knowledge-sharing within the sector, according to content chair and editor at TPi Magazine, Stew Hume.

“During previous renditions of the Live Events Summit, we aimed to cover all aspects of the touring industry – audio engineers, lighting designers, video specialists, stage designers and more,” Hume explains. “But with such a wide variety of content, not everyone would be interested in all panels. This year, we want to create a space where attendees can drop in for panels relevant to their field and return to the show floor.”

conversations. “This interaction is invaluable,” Hume says. “It’s a chance to network with industry leaders while we prepare for the next session.”

KEY SESSIONS AND TRENDS

Sessions on the stage will take a deep dive into the live events industry, with an emphasis on both technology and the people behind some of the biggest shows. Hume explains: “We want to peel back the curtain on the touring world and provide insights from those creating groundbreaking technology and productions.”

A key theme for 2025 is tracking – a technology now used across lighting, video, audio and automation. The programme will feature experts from companies including Tait, WiCreations, Solotech and PRG, as well as industry figures such as Burton Ishmael (FOH engineer

‘We want the Live Events Stage to be a place for ideas to be shared freely. Removing the paywall supports this mission’

This transition to free access reflects ISE’s goal of providing more opportunities for industry professionals to learn and engage. Hume emphasises: “We want the Live Events Stage to be a place for ideas to be shared freely. Removing the paywall supports this mission.”

Another new feature for 2025 is a networking area next to the stage. After each session, speakers will meet attendees for one-on-one interactions, facilitating deeper

for Madonna and Post Malone) and Roland Greil, a lighting designer for artists including The Rolling Stones and Rammstein.

Some of the standout sessions at ISE 2025 include an exploration of the trends in the live events market and expectations for the year ahead; a panel of lighting designers discussing how they’re adapting to budget constraints; and a debate around how ambitious productions in Saudi Arabia are reshaping the live events

landscape. The harmful effects of counterfeit products in the industry and an exploration into sustainable practices in live events will also be on the agenda.

Hume notes: “We’ll cover everything from automation to projection mapping, and pyrotechnics to drones. It’s an incredibly diverse lineup.”

ISE 2025 will also emphasise diversity and career development in the live events industry. Hume highlights the importance of these topics for the next generation of professionals, noting that “Friday’s stage will be handled by Hannah Eakins from Production Futures. She’ll be best placed to talk about diversity and career opportunities.” Ths is part of ISE’s wider Fast Forward Friday initiative, which focuses on skills, recruitment and career development.

In recent years, ISE has grown into one of the most important trade events for the live events industry, especially since its relocation to Barcelona. Hume says: “ISE has become one of the main events on TPi’s

calendar, with almost all major manufacturers attending. We’re also seeing more rental houses and end users, particularly from the video world.”

While Hume acknowledges that ISE is still building its reputation among technical crew, he believes the inclusion of the Live Events Stage signals the show’s commitment to the sector. “We hope initiatives like the Live Events Stage will encourage more technical crew from the touring industry to make the trip to Barcelona before the busy spring and summer touring season begins,” he says.

The shift to a free-to-attend Live Events Stage is more than just a logistical change – it’s a statement about the future of the live events industry. By providing a platform for sharing ideas and fostering connections, ISE is helping shape the direction of live events.

Sessions on the Live Events Stage (6B100) run from 10:30-17:00 TuesdayThursday, and from 10:2015:00 on Friday.

SAVe to urge ‘impactful change’ at ISE 2025

Sustainability in AV (SAVe), the US-based organisation focused on mobilising the AV industry to achieve the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), will serve as ISE’s Sustainability Partner for the third year in a row at the 2025 show.

“It’s actually been quite a monumental year for SAVe,” says Christina De Bono, the organisation’s founder and president, who highlights in particular the “significant” expansion of SAVe’s global ambassador programme. Launched at ISE 2023, the initiative aims to attract experienced individuals who can liaise on behalf of their countries to help establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the AV industry, including manufacturers and trade organisations.

“Since the last show we have gained SAVe ambassadors who now represent five continents. So we have a very active and growing ambassador delegation – all met through ISE – who are taking SAVe’s mission and initiatives back to their countries and regions, with the key objective of encouraging stakeholders to take concerted action in achieving [the SDGs].”

Attendance by nine SAVe ambassadors from around the world will be a key aspect of the organisation’s participation at ISE 2025, where it will be based at a stand in Congress Square (CS240). Other plans include a panel session with the title ‘Bringing the Sustainable Development Goals to the AV Industry’, which will take place on

4 February from 16:00-18:00 in room CC5.2, and a Happy Hour Reception, co-hosted with Edge, on 5 February from 16:00-18:00 in room CC2.

ISE FIRST

In a first for ISE, the organisation will host the SAVe Certification Program which assists businesses in identifying the specific SDGs they can advance – and then helps them to

develop an action plan that can be implemented immediately. This session is scheduled for 6 February from 09:30-16:30 in room CC3.13A.

In addition, says De Bono, “we’ve been asked to be the sustainability expert and advisor to the first-ever ISE Hackathon, which will take place on Thursday/ Friday and bring students from universities in Barcelona and beyond to work together and

devise solutions focused on three different tracks – one of which is sustainability.” See page 42 for more on the Hackathon.

With the world arguably in its most tumultuous state since 1945, and a distinct danger of industries being distracted from addressing climate change effectively at a time when its impact is increasingly apparent, does De Bono feel that AV is continuing to make progress?

“That’s a complicated question,” she admits. “What I would say is that I think SAVe has really brought to the forefront what the blueprint for change needs to be, which is achieving the SDGs. But the reality is that we are all far from achieving what we need to.”

The industry’s ongoing e-waste problem is especially troubling. “One of the areas we’ve really focused on is creating more of a circular economy by addressing goal 12, which is about sustainable consumption and production. In 2022 alone, globally, there was more than 62.5 million metric tons of electronic waste generated, less than 22% of which will be recycled. By 2030, when we need to be achieving the SDGs, the amount of electronic waste is going to increase to 90 million metric tons each year [UN E-Waste Monitor data]. While our industry is aware of this problem, it’s also part of the problem. So a big part of what SAVe is focused on is providing ways that companies can be more responsible in terms of reusing, repurposing, recycling and disposing of equipment.”

Transformative tech takes centre stage at ISE 2025

With an expanded showfloor – including over 330 new exhibitors – a host of new features to explore and an incredible array of technology to discover, ISE 2025 is set to be a hotbed of inspiration. Once again the showfloor will be divided into seven dedicated Tech Zones: Audio, AV Broadcast, Digital Signage & DOOH, Lighting & Staging, Multi-Technology, Residential & Smart Building, and Unified Communications & Education Technology, helping attendees to experience the future of AV and systems integration.

Audio Zone: Hall 7 and Audio Demo Rooms in Hall 8.0

For those looking to see and hear the latest in audio technology, Hall 7 and the Audio Demo Rooms in Hall 8.0 are an essential visit.

16:15-17:00

One trend to look out for in this sector is the growing use of AI within both permanent and temporary audio systems, providing smart, adaptive and efficient solutions for numerous

applications. ISE exhibitors already harnessing the power of AI include Sennheiser, Bose, Yamaha, d&b audiotechnik and Harman

IP audio innovations will also be well represented in Barcelona. IP audio has transformed the installation and AV market in the most positive way in recent years, with Dante-, Ravenna- and AES67-compliant equipment all able to hook into existing IT infrastructures and use costeffective commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) equipment to expand and develop. It has also reduced installation costs and shortened installation times.

This has led to greater convergence across the sector, both in terms of technologies and the manufacturers who develop and support them. For example, Dante (whose creator, Audinate, is in Hall 2 at ISE 2025) has a growing ecosystem of more than 350 technical partners and endpoints stretching from amplifiers and speakers to intercoms. For end users, it makes buying into the ecosystem a safe bet.

At the show, Adamson (7H100) will be highlighting its VGt and VGs systems, which

incorporate Milan AVB, an IP-based standard that ensures robust connectivity and performance, particularly suitable for touring professionals. This integration enables seamless communication and dependable networking.

Making its global debut at ISE, the DM88 system processor from NST Audio (7J200) aims to deliver new levels of flexibility for routing and processing, supporting Dante, analogue and AES connections. NST Audio claims the processor is equally suited to both FOH duties as a versatile system manager and console switcher, or installed as the hub of a complex installation system.

Taking centre stage on the Wharfedale Pro stand (7L600) will be its new XC Series system management controllers. They offer extensive loudspeaker preset libraries and FIR filters, accessible via both Ethernet and Dante interfaces.

ISE 2025 will also be the first opportunity for industry professionals to experience

Renkus-Heinz’ OmniBeam technology in a live demonstration setting since its official release last year. Described as marking “a new era in beam-steering technology”, the software will be demoed in Audio Demo Room E8.

Also not to be missed, the OCA Alliance is teaming up with the Audio Product Development Alliance to host a unique event on its stand (7E260) at ISE 2025, following the publication of AES70-2024, the latest revision of the OCA standard. The Product Development Meet-Up takes place at 14:00 on 5 February. Registration via the OCA Alliance website is essential.

AV Broadcast Zone: Hall 4

Creating, storing and distributing video content has become significantly easier in recent years, as technology costs have fallen just as audience appetites have risen.

Indeed, the ability to stream an event live to reach audiences outside of the venue is among the biggest current business trends across numerous vertical sectors, including corporate, education, retail, stadiums and venues.

In the AV Broadcast Zone, visitors will find suppliers of all the key technologies involved in live streaming. This includes HD, 4K and PTZ cameras as well as robotic solutions such as aerial wirecams that are popular choices for providing eye-catching angles, production switchers, often the engine room of a broadcast, and multi-viewers, which may be necessary depending on the complexity of the production.

list digital signage as part of their offering at ISE 2025, so there will be no shortage of providers and solutions to explore across the Fira.

While digital signage is a sector that never stands still, platforms, sustainability and AI are three areas where rapid change is taking place.

The platform concept is a breakthrough for digital signage, analogous to a smartphone app store: multiple third-party providers can provide different elements of functionality, enabling signage operators to build systems exactly to their requirements.  Samsung, Philips PDS and LG are among the manufacturers who have introduced or are working on platform offerings.

For example, Grass Valley (4P660) will be showcasing versatile live production with its LDX 100 Series cameras. Part of the NativeIP acquisition platform, they can stream SMPTE ST 2110 output directly from the camera. Also on show is Grass Valley’s Maverik X. The AMPP-native switcher is designed for both on-premises and cloud-based operations, with enhanced user control, scalable setups and configurable UIs. Two other production switchers offer a single interface, optimising workflows for small to mid-tier live productions; Sport Producer X integrates multiviewers, while Live Producer X offers switching, replay, graphics, audio production and multiviewers.

Elsewhere, Calrec (4N625) is showcasing its compact 24-fader Argo M and 12-fader Type R IP-based mixing systems. Type R’s flexible 5.1 capable IP core enables broadcasters to benefit from virtual working practices and automated broadcast workflows on a cost-effective SMPTE 2110-compliant IP backbone.

Standards are also likely to be a talking point on the ISE showfloor. IPMX and NDI have emerged from the once separate world of broadcast to play a key role in the convergence of live production and presentation systems within the two industries. Both essentially take the best of broadcast and AV and enable interoperability outside of a single vendor ecosystem. The standout difference between NDI and IPMX is that NDI uses a compression scheme designed to maximise efficiency over a 1Gbps network while IPMX can carry multiple streams and uses 10Gbps and 25Gbps networks to carry higher bitrates. However the two are not mutually exclusive and can both be present on the same network without interfering with each other. In fact, several vendors have announced gateways between IPMX and NDI. At ISE 2025, look for standards-based video-over-IP approaches to evolve and meet the needs of a diverse and interconnected world.

Digital Signage & DooH Zone: Hall 4

Hall 4 is the place to see digital signage, the fastest growing market segment at ISE in recent years, in action, with solutions to boost business across verticals including retail, transportation, healthcare, corporate, education, leisure and hospitality. More than 370 exhibitors

Sustainability continues to be an important consideration in the digital signage market. Not only are companies’ green credentials being scrutinised more thoroughly by customers and investors; the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive now requires companies with annual sales of more than €150 million to quantify and report on their sustainability efforts. Energy-efficient displays, solutions offering remote device management and e-paper displays are some of the solutions that will be on show at ISE 2025 to help operators of digital signage networks reduce energy consumption.

As in many areas of AV, AI is having an impressive impact in the digital signage sector too, with AI-powered analytics offering unprecedented insights into audience behaviour, enabling advertisers to tailor content dynamically in real time based on demographics, time of day, weather conditions and other contextual factors. Moreover, AI supports the automation of programmatic advertising. This technology automates the buying and placement of ads, optimising reach and efficiency by targeting ads to the right audiences at the right times. Interactive AI-driven kiosks and digital displays are another innovation transforming the DOOH landscape.

ISE will also be the place to explore the industry buzz around instore retail media. With traditional print media in decline and TV advertising not reaching large sections of the population, particularly younger people, retail media is one of the few mass media left. And as retail media is seen by consumers at the point of sale, it generally reaches a more engaged audience than online media, where they may be casually browsing.

Retail media allows for highly targeted and personalised marketing thanks to shopper insights from loyalty card data, facial recognition and mobile phone tracking; direct engagement with products or other in-store experiences; and highly contextualised messaging (such as advertising umbrellas during wet

video mapping and holography, will be on show in Hall 6.

As audiences for live events continue to demand unique and sophisticated experiences, so event producers need to deploy an increasingly wide ranging set of solutions. Many of these, including lighting and lighting control, rigging and staging equipment, motion tracking,

One technology increasingly used in live events is performer tracking. These systems allow lighting and visual effects to follow the performers precisely on stage, or ensure that the movement of stage elements and the location of audio matches the performers’ actions.

One exhibitor showcasing this technology will be Naostage (6L900). An AV show leveraging tracking platform K System and new skeletal recognition technology will transform the Naostage stand into an interactive celebration of the immersive potential offered by the combination of real-

time tracking with audio, video and lighting technology.

Illumination technology is also moving forward, with laser phosphor light sources for stage work being a current area of development. This operates on the basis of laser diodes producing blue light that is shone on to a rotating wheel covered with yellow phosphor. Lighting manufacturers are using this technique together with LED engines to produce more concentrated light beams.

LumenRadio (6E400) is offering a new solution for lighting control. Powered by the company’s CRMX technology, Galileo is designed to simplify installation projects by offering dependable wireless DMX in a user-friendly, installation-ready form. Using either DINrail cabinets or IP-rated enclosures, Galileo is suitable for indoor and outdoor installation projects.

LED videowalls, projection mapping and pixel mapping continue to be popular ways to enhance performances.

A recent evolution of pixel mapping was seen on Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour. The audience were brought into the performance by wearing PixMob LED wristbands, programmed to light up in time to the music. The wristbands will be demoed on stand 6F260. This tour also featured AI-generated outfit changes, adding a

futuristic flair to the live performance and highlighting how seamlessly integrating such digital enhancements into live events creates a more immersive and visually captivating experience for the audience.

AI is changing live events beyond the stage as well. AI-driven analytics can provide valuable insights into audience behaviour, preferences and engagement levels, helping event organisers tailor experiences more effectively and drive greater engagement.

Multi-Technology Zone: Halls 3, 5 and 8.1

At the heart of ISE 2025 will sit the expanded MultiTechnology Zone, home to many of ISE’s flagship exhibitor brands and manufacturers that offer a broad range of technologies serving multiple verticals. This is also where visitors will be able to experience the sheer scope of the AV industry’s innovation, including in the new Hall 8.1, where the Esports Arena and Robotics and Drone Arena are set to draw the crowds. In terms of technologies on show, expect to discover the very latest in AI, XR, IoT, machine learning and other innovations that help to create smart, immersive and productive spaces – whether in leisure and hospitality, retail, education, corporate or numerous other verticals.

It includes features such as secure web-based control and management, a scaling HDMI output, videowall processing and surround sound audio.

The DynamicWorkplace-CON module will be on show from Guntermann & Drunck (5G350). It is specifically designed to arrange various computer modules or sources

flexibly in a larger working area on up to four screens.

On the Legrand AV (3N600) stand, C2G will be introducing the Superbooster USB extender.

This extends data from USB 3.2, 2.0 and 1.1 devices simultaneously up to 100m over a single Cat6a F/FTP cable, making it ideal for USB 3.2 conferencing cameras, interactive whiteboards, security and monitoring or remote storage.

Finally, the Avedia Platform v11 from Vitec (5C350) – on show in Europe for the first time – is a new graphical interface, claiming to enable users to stream live and on-demand content, create and manage digital signage, and distribute IPTV and in-house content over existing networks.

Residential & Smart Building Zone: Halls 1 and 2

In residential and smart building projects multiple technologies must work in concert to bring value to owners, landlords and occupants. In commercial buildings, the Internet of Things and the ability to customise the built environment not only to the company, or the department, but even to the individual is increasingly important.

IoT devices, such as sensors and actuators, collect and transmit data, enabling real-time monitoring and control of various building systems. IoT data is then analysed and data-mined for insight by AI algorithms.

In addition, as sustainability remains high on the agenda across residential and commercial smart buildings, a variety of smart devices are being integrated to support this. This includes smart meters, energy efficient appliances and home management apps. Integrated control systems, such as Crestron or Control4, provide seamless management of all these devices and help to promote efficiencies.

CEDIA, the global membership association that serves the home technology industry, is also located in Hall 2. Turn to page 52 to find out more about the organisation’s plans for the show.

Unified Communications & Education Technology Zone: Halls 1 and 2

The corporate and education sectors are two of the biggest users of AV technology, relying on tools that aid communication, collaboration and decision making to optimise efficiency and productivity. Across Europe, education providers are faced with a continuing need to enhance teaching effectiveness for students by accommodating additional learning models such as remote and hybrid tutoring. The AV technology

needed to enable this, such as interactive whiteboards, adjustable lighting and sound systems, and recording and streaming tools, enables a singular space to be used for multiple purposes, meeting the needs of in-person and remote learners while offering more interactive and engaging learning experiences.

In addition, immersive augmented reality and virtual reality (AR/VR) technology can be used to blend physical and digital environments, transporting students to new locations and time periods or enhancing real-world activities by superimposing digital information. By helping students to perceive information in different ways, this technology can also boost the inclusivity and versatility of learning environments.

When it comes to unified comms, AI and the cloud, and their impact on simplifying workflows, automating tasks and enabling flexible working, continue to be areas of innovation. AI is already having a major impact in workplaces, providing more collaborative, inclusive and secure meeting experiences and offering tools such as speech-to-text transcription, language translation and gesture recognition. Expect more innovations in this space on the ISE showfloor.

Audio also should not be forgotten when it comes to communication and collaboration technology, with solutions that require little or no user interaction to deliver high-quality audio across meeting spaces, lecture halls and more increasingly in demand. AI is again having an impact here too, eliminating background noise, cancelling echo, reducing reverberation and more.

For example, Catchbox (2V700) is presenting the Catchbox Plus, an all-in-one wireless microphone system designed to provide professional-grade audio for environments such as lecture halls, hybrid meetings, and collaborative spaces. At

the core of the system is the Hub, which integrates digital signal processing (DSP) technology that works behind the scenes to automatically adapt and improve audio quality in any environment.

Also on the showfloor, Barco (2M100) will be highlighting its ClickShare integration with Microsoft Teams, which brings AI-driven tools like Copilot to BYOD spaces, enabling IT teams to manage hybrid meeting spaces effectively. The Power Conference 4 system from Bachmann (1F800) supports hybrid workspaces with plug-and-play functionality, enabling seamless media sharing, device charging and videoconferencing.

Conference system specialist Huain (1G400) will be showcasing a secure conference system that uses ultrasonic interference and diffraction technology to

protect the conference from being recorded at the source. Also on show will be a system that uses a mix of 5G wired and wireless units, with simultaneous interpretation on 64 and 128 channels. Smart Building Summit returns for 2025 with a look at how digital transformation in buildings is being effected through the integration of IT and operational technologies. This includes a keynote address that will explore the acceleration of the digital transformation of the built environment, fuelled by government actions on sustainability and climate, as well as newer technologies such as IoT and AI.

The summit will also consider another digital transformation that’s fast becoming a priority for the smart building industry: from architects to owners and landlords, the newest focus is on how the building might work better with the digital transformation of the business of the occupants.

Other sessions include Michael Grant, co-founder and CEO, Metrikus, explaining how to get the most value from building data, while Francesco Ziliani, CEO, SpinetiX, will take attendees inside Millennium, a new business and event building in Switzerland with 1,600 workstations, its own data centre, radio/TV studio, and facilities for business and cultural events. This smart building handles more than 4,000 connected devices and hundreds of network devices and supports real-time, simultaneous streaming inputs.

AI is, of course, on the agenda, with Dan Drogman, founder and CEO, Smart Spaces, sharing how the technology is making buildings even smarter, and Max Verteletsky, co-founder & CEO, Spaceti, joining a panel that will discuss the impact of AI in smart buildings.

Casto Cañavate, marketing manager, KNX, will explain the new Energy Performance of Buildings Directive and

its impact on smart building, while sustainability is also in focus for Ken Dooley, chief data officer, Granlund, who will explain how sustainability reporting can be simplified with good data flow.

Also not to be missed is ‘Smart Building’s Big Imperatives for 2025’, which will see a panel including Pete Coman, principal & founder, NV5, and Jean-Christophe Krieger, president, KNX, debating the trends that will define the smart building industry in 2025.

Smart Building Summit runs from 10:30-18:30 on Tuesday 4 February in room CC5.1.

Revolutionizing Live Production

Power Your Media Productions with Cutting-Edge Broadcast Solutions from Grass Valley

Broadcast-grade production technology is no longer the preserve of traditional broadcasters and TV networks. Access to cutting-edge media production solutions is now within reach for a broader pool of organizations, a transformation that companies such as Grass Valley have been instrumental in enabling.

The ongoing democratization of media solutions will see accelerating deployments of technology in non-traditional broadcast environments such as corporate, education, and houses of worship, as well as providing areas like sports, live events, and esports with new production and streaming capabilities.

For organizations in all these sectors, access to agile, simple and affordable media production solutions is now more within reach than ever before.

Grass Valley technology is already empowering a new generation of high-end productions such as the G20 Summit, the COP28 UN Climate Change Conference, and 2024 Global Leadership Summit, as well as enabling new cloud production capabilities for companies like Gfinity, Electronic Arts Competitive Gaming Entertainment, and Corrivium.

In the live events space, production companies such as Fifty Frames and Nighthawk have been redefining their concert productions by deploying Grass Valley technology on a number of recent shows, most recently Nighthawk’s production of country music star Morgan Wallen’s One Night at a Time tour.

SHAPING THE FUTURE OF MEDIA PRODUCTION

Grass Valley has led the market as a pioneer of camera-to-consumer solutions for 65 years. In 2021, that pioneering heritage was further demonstrated with the launch of the game-changing AMPP platform; a revolution in media production delivering agile, software-defined workflows for OB vans, cloud, and on-premises environments, offering customers the ultimate in control and flexibility.

AMPP is a microservices-based media production platform enabling efficient and flexible production workflows for live content creation, management, and distribution. It has become a cornerstone for major global events, enabling customers across the media

landscape to reduce operational costs, gain flexibility, and drive new revenue streams.

AMPP’s rapid adoption – usage now exceeds 6 million hours per month – emphasizes how organizations with media production requirements are benefitting from software-defined workflows that are flexible, scalable, and efficient.

Solutions like Framelight X asset management and Playout X systems – deployed on G20 Summit and DMC Rally X projects – have been primary drivers of this momentum, creating significant cost efficiencies for customers. So too have deployments of Grass Valley’s LDX Series cameras (deployed on the Morgan Wallen tour), Creative Grading system, and Maverik X, Live Producer X, and Sports Producer X switchers. All of which are being demonstrated on Grass Valley’s stand at ISE (4P660).

AGILE, SIMPLE, AND AFFORDABLE MEDIA PRODUCTION

Grass Valley is reshaping the future of media production by putting the latest

broadcast-grade innovations into the hands of content providers of all shapes, sizes, and budgets. Its solutions are helping to democratize the production process to support organizations in realizing their highest production value ambitions.

Grass Valley’s strategic partnerships with key players such as Diversified, ES Broadcast, and Arabsat are further examples of the company’s commitment to enhancing product innovation for the broadest possible mix of customers.

As is being showcased at ISE 2025, organizations across the pro AV and media landscape are experiencing the agile, simple, and affordable power of AMPP and the GV Media Universe.

Bringing great minds together at inaugural ISE Hackathon

Pablo Vega de Llergo Cornish, ESADE

Exemplifying the organisers’ stated desire to continually encourage innovation and introduce new features, ISE 2025 will mark the first time the show has ever hosted a hackathon.

From an initial call for participants expected to yield a field of around 150 people, a selection process taking place before the show is set to whittle this down to about 60 finalists. These will be drawn primarily from top universities including ESADE, UPC, UPF, Bocconi University, HEC and La Salle.

It’s from ESADE that the ISE Hackathon gains its two chairs, Pablo Vega de Llergo Cornish and Xavier Marlasca Roig, both of whom are professors at the international educational institution, as well as being highly experienced business transformation leaders and consultants. For the hackathon, they are working in conjunction with Idearia-Lab, a boutique consultancy specialising in business model innovation headquartered in Mexico.

GIVING BACK TO SOCIETY

The significant involvement of universities based in and around Barcelona stems from a wish by ISE “to give back to society with regards to promoting people and talent here”, says Vega de Llergo, who adds that the three project tracks – sustainability, innovation and cybersecurity –are based on feedback from a survey conducted at ISE 2024.

The challenges for each track were still being determined at the time of

interview, but they have been informed by suggestions from industry stakeholders including AV companies and system integrators. Vega de Llergo indicates that there is a general objective of exploring new technologies in a context of “how they can be used in order to provide value propositions or enhance them”.

For the final selection of participants, a panel drawn from the AV industry and academia will seek students who are “capable of addressing the challenges, are creative and resourceful, and pragmatic as well”, he adds. The resulting 60 finalists will be split equally across the three tracks and then into five teams per track.

They will need to complete their work in a mere 1.5 days, with the hackathon starting at 08:00 on Thursday and wrapping up at midday on Friday (this includes the opportunity to continue over Thursday night in the Fira should teams decide that’s necessary – food will be provided!). Immediately after the Friday deadline there will be a series of project presentations on the Pitching Stage in Congress Square, followed by a ceremony at 15:00 to reveal the winners and runners-up.

While all participants will receive a certificate, the winners will also receive trophies, as well as take part in psychometric diagnosis – a career-oriented process of aptitude tests designed to provide insights into a person’s strengths, weaknesses and potential for progression.

ISE manager business development & special projects Lara Mayer, who is co-ordinating the hackathon on behalf of the show, says it’s an ideal moment to introduce this new feature: “At ISE, we constantly strive to foster innovation and collaboration within the AV and technology industries. Hosting a hackathon this year aligns perfectly with our mission to push the boundaries of creativity and problem-solving. We believe

it’s a fantastic opportunity to bring together diverse talent, encourage fresh thinking, and tackle real-world challenges in the AV space. Our expectation is that the hackathon will not only showcase brilliant ideas, but also inspire lasting connections and solutions that resonate beyond the event.”
