SHOW NEWS

McGraw Expects ‘Amazing Event’

It’s showtime—and organizers are expecting another great CEDIA Expo and Commercial Integrator Expo (CIX) here at the Denver Convention Center. Jason McGraw, CTS, Emerald’s group VP and CEDIA Expo—CIX show director, shares some insights into the expanded show floor as well as the excitement surrounding the return to Denver.

Q: What are your attendance expectations this year?

Jason McGraw: Attendance registrations for CEDIA Expo and CIX 2024 are pacing strong, with new registrations rolling in daily. We’re receiving registrations from across all 50 states, Canada, and many other countries. The co-located shows are the most significant gathering for the residential and resimercial industry, and this year will be no exception. With nearly 100 new exhibitors, including

companies in the Launchpad, and all-new programming, the energy and excitement are palpable, and we expect an amazing event.

Q: This is the second consecutive year in Denver. Is the show benefiting from staying put for a few years?

JM: Denver has consistently proven to be an appealing destination for the shows, which is a key reason we’ve chosen to return. While we’re exploring the possibility of rotating the shows’ location, we’re currently committed to Denver through 2026. We’ll continue gathering feedback from attendees and exhibitors to ensure we choose the best-suited locations for future events.

Q: What are the big trends that will be revealing themselves at CEDIA Expo 2024?

JM: Lighting is definitely one of the hottest trends this year, with a significant number of lighting manufacturers exhibiting and plenty of lighting-related content and manufacturer product training sessions. We’re also seeing a surge in new exhibitors across various product categories, including audio, security, energy management, and connectivity technologies. The number of sound rooms has grown this year as well. The diversity of products on display truly reflects the broad scope of the smart home and resimercial industries.

Q: How has CIX changed from its premiere at last year’s show?

JM: We’ve expanded the CIX show floor by over 50% compared to last year, with most exhibitors returning and many new ones joining, particularly in digital signage and lighting categories. We’ve also enriched the conference program with over 20 sessions and added networking events and commercial topics on the Smart Stage. While CEDIA Expo continues to cater primarily to residential systems

Emerging Technologies Aid Push for 8K Adoption

During yesterday’s “8K Technology and Its Impact on the Custom Integration Channel” panel, four industry experts sat down to discuss a broad range of topics that affect 8K video’s adoption in modern households. Hosted by Marc Finer, managing director of Communication Research, the panel featured Mark Major of Hisense USA, Bill Mandel of Samsung Research America, Jim Kozicki of PROSOURCE, and Walt Zerbe of CEDIA. The panelists represented diverse areas of the industry, providing unique perspectives on 8K and how to bring its benefits to a wider audience.

Finer opened up the discussion by asking how the industry-wide move toward greater immersion in AV is impacting product development. “This year, we’re continuing focus more on the large screen format, because that’s going to lend itself to 8K — and that’s going to be far more immersive,” Major said, speaking of Hisense’s continued commitment to larger display sizes. “For us, bigger is always better…not only for a directview product, but our laser TV products also provide a tremendously immersive experience for the consumer.”

The push for larger screens resonated among all panelists, with Mandel noting that the advancement

in upscaling technology is playing a huge role in supporting 8K in larger displays. He touched on the growing back catalog that channels have access to, and how emerging upscaling technology can enhance the picture quality of older content up to current standards, while still preserving creative intent. “We’re working in terms of remastering imagery, being able to develop AI-based algorithms that can take a substandard image and improve it,” he said. Finer turned the discussion toward strategies in selling the immersion 8K provides to consumers, prompting Kozicki to bring up the need for a marketplace where immersive experiences can be showcased. “What we wanted to do for our brands is

set up an experience center where our members and vendors could come together in a whole new way,” he explained. “Instead of coming just to see what’s new, actually having an experiential place where they can do deep-dive training and talk about new product introductions.”

Beyond training and education, Zerbe asserted the need for 8K to be supported by content creators in order for consumers to see that the value the technology provides is worth their time and money. “I think it has to be done through content. We need assistance from the manufacturers, and we need assistance from the content creators,” he said.

The panelists agreed that a multi-pronged approach must be utilized for 8K to have a greater adoption rate among custom integrators. Consumers don’t know what they don’t know, and the first step to getting a buyer interested in 8K is to allow them to experience it for themselves. To that end, a greater effort must be made educate the masses on the benefits of 8K, such as the lack of visible pixels in larger sized screens. Plus, not only should content creators showcase the growing influx of native 8K content, but they should show firsthand how emerging AI and upscaling technology can make yesterday’s media shine on a modern 8K television.

Jason McGraw, CTS, Emerald’s group VP and CEDIA Expo
Panelists discussed ways to expand 8K adoption among custom integrators.

EXECUTIVE INSIGHT

Crestron Focuses on Entertainment

THE COMPANY LOOKS TO INSPIRE THE CEDIA COMMUNITY TO GET BACK TO ITS ROOTS.

BOOTH 1901 It is hard to believe that Crestron has only been back in full force at CEDIA Expo for two years. Now, for the third consecutive year, its sizable booth will once again greet attendees as they enter the show floor, where the company is looking to interact with their dealer partners and introduce others to their expanding line of products.

“We’re always looking for the right kinds of dealers to bring into our ecosystem,” says Brad Hintze, EVP of global marketing at Crestron. “Inevitably, we will also have existing dealers that are buying from us today that will see something they didn’t know we released or find something they didn’t know we do. CEDIA Expo is a good opportunity to reinforce what we’re working on and who we are—even among our existing dealers.”

To help dealers discover all that Crestron has to offer, there is a repeating session on Thursday, “Powering Your Business with Crestron,” which will provide a high-level overview of the Crestron Home OS and how it can benefit a custom installation business. The 60-minute sessions take place in room 103 at 8:00 AM, 9:30 AM, 11:30 AM, 1:30 PM, and 3:30 PM.

So, why the focus on a Crestron basics course?

“Being in a show like this, it’s all about attracting the right new dealers, and having a landing place for them to be able to come and kind of try it out in training is certainly valuable,” says Hintze. “Also, it is easy to take for granted that over the last few years that we’ve all been living through a lot of integrators have had tremendous turnover in their employees. We see this on the residential side and also on the commercial side, so even longtime dealers will have 50% of their staff that are new to Crestron. By providing this kind of onboarding experience, we’re able to help bring more of the technicians within an

existing dealer into the Crestron camp as well.”

Back at the booth, there will be plenty of Crestron tech on display as usual, but with a different focus than last year. “There are a few product areas that will be consistent—certainly lighting and shading are a core part of who we are—and there will again be a focus on how easy it is to deploy and manage a Crestron home, but this year there is an even deeper emphasis around entertainment and AV over IP,” explains Hintze.

“At InfoComm, we had a heavy emphasis there on NVX, as we have shipped a million endpoints for our AVoIP solution—more than any other manufacturer—which shows how well it’s been accepted. So, we will be reinforcing the value of audio and video over IP.

“The heart of CEDIA is home theaters and entertainment, and I think that our industry is at risk of getting distracted by other things,” he continues. “For example, for the last few years, we’ve been distracted by little voice hubs, voice control, and poor-quality DIY devices, and there are certainly consumer trends that lead people to question if AV over IP is valuable. We believe it is—it may be for different kinds of uses than might have been the case five years ago, but there is obviously still a place for that.”

In terms of new products, the company is showing the latest changes to its mature Crestron Home OS and a new product that fits nicely into that focus on entertainment.

“Everybody wants audio everywhere, but the reason vinyl matters is the nostalgia of it—the tactile feel and that experience of it,” says Hintze. “And how can you bring together that vinyl experience and get it over the network? Our new NAX endpoints make it super simple to take a turntable and get it onto your distributed network. Sending vinyl over IP is central to what we’re teaching people inside of our booth, and we hope it’s exciting and inspiring!”

SHOW NEWS Panelists Offer Advice for Amplifying Brand Visibility

Attendees of Wednesday morning’s “You’re Selling it Wrong: Executive Strategies on Inbound vs. Outbound Sales, Marketing, and Social Media” panel gained valuable insights into how collaboration, social media, and actionable strategies can enhance the visibility of their businesses.

Moderated by Jeff Hayward, director of Wildwood Plus, the panel—which included James Bliss, senior marketing manager, CEDIA; Chris Pruet, social media marketing manager, Stealth Acoustics; and Amanda Wildman, owner, TruMedia—discussed the intricacies and challenges integrators and installers face with inbound and outbound sales. Leveraging social media platforms effectively and crafting a professional website that “builds credibility and tells your story” were considered key strategies for standing apart from the competition.

Customers start their technology searches with your website, and they’re “looking for the best professional they can find,” said Bliss. “This is your chance to show your expertise and tell your story.”

Crafting your story doesn’t have to be stuffy and formal—showing the everyday life of your business using images of in-progress and completed projects, showroom, and your staff can more fully engage potential and return customers, and clearly show why you are the best choice. “No one’s going to sell you better than you,” added Wildman.

The panelists encouraged attendees to raise their

Top Talking Points at CEDIA Expo 2024

Here are some of the reasons why I’m pumped about this year’s show!

1. HOME THEATER PROJECTORS: CEDIA is one of the last great bastions for getting a home theater projector demo, and you can believe I’m going to do everything I can to check them all out! From Barco’s massively over-the-top Nertheus, to JVC’s newly released and upgraded NZ800 and NZ900, to the three brand-new Epson 4K laser projectors, including the $30k, 10,000-lumen QL7000. And after more than two years, we might see a refresh from Sony’s laser projection lineup…? I can’t wait to find out!

2. MINI/MICROLED: With Sony positioning its MiniLED BRAVIA 9 as the flagship of its current lineup (a TV that won the recent MiniLED shootout at Value Electronics), it will be interesting to see all the flagship offerings up close and personal at the show. Also, at CES we saw 110-inch and 115-inch models from Hisense and TLC, so will someone look to go even bigger? Even more exciting are the MicroLED video walls, which are pretty much the pinnacle of home cinema video but remain stratospherically priced. I expect to see a lot of video walls on display from companies like Sony, Samsung, Digital Projection, LG, Planar, and Just Video Walls. Also,

I hear that Quantum Media Systems, which had the most outstanding-looking display at last year’s show, will be demoing its latest dvLED, the XDR Pro Cinema Quantum in room 207, and that is a demo not to be missed!

3. BIG DEMO ROOMS: No theater system lives in a vacuum, and no manufacturer is an island. These are all systems, and to get the most out of a demo, you need to have the best-of-the-best companies partnering together to deliver something truly magical. The four that I’m most excited for are Trinnov Audio, StormAudio, JBL Synthesis, and Acurus. Trinnov (booth 2938) will be demonstrating the latest implementation of its unique WaveForming subwoofer technology and is partnering with Officina Acustica, Barco, Perlisten, madVR Labs, Kaleidescape, and Seymour Screen Excellence. StormAudio (sound room SR4) will be partnering with Seymour-Screen Excellence, Ascendo Immersive Audio, Christie, Moovia, and Lumagen to highlight a 13.12.10-channel Hybrid AoIP theater. Acurus and Aragon (sound room SR9) will be showcasing a 9.10.6-channel immersive audio system with over 22,000 watts. No word on what JBL Synthesis (booth 2512) will be bringing, but you can rest assured they will be bringing it as they always do! These demos frequently have massive lines, so get there right when Expo opens and get your place in line…right behind me!

Bringing Students Into CEDIA: Pilot Program Launches at Expo 2024

Will Breaux has been in the CEDIA industry for more than 25 years as an executive at one of the largest distributors, as an owner in integration firms, and currently as the director of business development for Unlimited Integration in Houston, TX. He has been a product judge at previous CEDIA Expos and is currently serving as the chair of the CEDIA Government Affairs Committee. In this CEDIA Daily exclusive, Breaux discusses the genesis and aims of an exciting new program designed to interest high school students in the CEDIA industry. 4. THAT ONE NEW THING: Almost every year I’ll find that one thing that I wasn’t expecting. Maybe it’s a tool, maybe it’s a widget, maybe it’s a problem-solver, or maybe it’s just a new idea of how to do things. Expo is packed with tons of new ideas and smart people, and there will be tons of new things to discover! Maybe it will be at The Launchpad platform, which is dedicated to showcasing new-to-market brands and the latest residential technology solutions. The Launchpad will spotlight brands that have been in business for less than three years and have never exhibited at CEDIA Expo—maybe it will have the solution you’ve been looking for!

5. THE HOT “TEA”: Want to find out what is dropping in our industry and what will drive us forward in the coming year? Want to see what the best and brightest installers from around the world are doing? It will be at Expo. Have an idea, suggestion, or gripe you’ve been wanting to discuss with your favorite manufacturer? They’ll be at Expo. What will be new in automation, lighting/shading, and surveillance? Will we see more wide adoption of AI? The 8K Association (booth C919) will host a series of 8K content demonstrations throughout Expo. Will that drive the next growth opportunity for the CI channel? Come and find out!

tion at Destination Outdoors, we will split the group into halves so that 15 go to classes and the other 15 can tour the show floor. We will reconvene at lunch time for food and a presentation by Kyle Steele, CEO and founder of Global Wave Integration. After Continued on page 54

Glare-Free With Samsung S95D

BOOTH 3012 OLED screens are known for their mesmerizing, inky deep blacks, but they can often accentuate reflective lighting in a room and distract from the viewing experience. Samsung solved this with the S95D series, becoming the first brand to develop an OLED TV with Glare-Free technology.

This technology ensures viewers experience powerful brightness, dramatic detail, and vibrant colors across every lighting situation, bright or dark. In fact, Samsung is the only TV brand to have its colors validated by Pantone, the industryleading color experts, and its powerful AI processor instantly transforms any content, even older SD

or HD classics, into crystal clear 4K. The S95D is designed to complement any aesthetic, with a remarkably slim bezel under-11mm and a minimalist design.

Somfy Offers

‘Passport’ to Top Shading Destinations

BOOTH 1732 Motorized shading continues to be one of the hottest and most competitive categories in the systems integration business, with many manufacturers vying for position—15 to be exact—at CEDIA Expo 2024. Housing and fabric styles vary, but one crucial component most shading systems share is a motor from Somfy.

Somfy is introducing CEDIA attendees to the many motors in its arsenal by giving integrators who visit Booth 1732 a special CEDIA Expo Passport. This pocket-size document navigates attendees to 10 shading exhibits powered by Somfy motors, demonstrating that “what’s inside matters most.” At these destinations, visitors can see the motors in action, learn about their unique capabilities and features, and find a solution that combines the right motor, cassette, fabrication, and integration drivers for their current and upcoming projects. Once integrators have filled their passport and returned it to Somfy Booth 1732, they are entered in a drawing to win prizes.

Celebrating the Art of Home Theater Design

BOOTH 4220 In a special presentation at CEDIA Expo 2024, Richard Charschan of AcousticSmart Home Theater Interiors is unveiling Home Theaterology, a coffee-table book celebration of the art of designing home theaters, showcasing stunning imagery of 15 luxurious private cinemas. The book also serves as a guide for creating the best possible home theater, with expert advice on everything from how to select the required audiovisual equipment to the importance of acoustics and noise reduction. Proceeds from the book will go the promotion of home theater to the design-build trades.

Pre-order a copy of Home Theaterology at www.hometheaterology.net and you can either pick it up at AcousticSmart’s booth 4220 or have it shipped to you if you won’t be attending the show.

Some of the best-known writers and photographers in the home entertainment industry collaborated on Home Theaterology, including Phillip Ennis and Steven Castle, who worked on legendary theater designer Theo Kalomirakis’ classic book Great Escapes.

Book co-sponsors 360 Power Quality, CEDIA, CEDIA Expo, Country Carpet, Barco Residential, D-Tools, JBL Synthesis, Kaleidescape, Mad VR Labs, Meridian, Screen Research, Stanton Carpet, Storm Audio, and TPI all provided resources to help produce Home Theaterology.

Home Theaterology features a foreword by acclaimed movie director Barry Sonnenfeld, who recounts how his home theaters have elevated his movie-watching experience over what media rooms and commercial theaters can provide. Max Weinberg, drummer for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band and former musical director for both Late Night and The Tonight Show, also contributes a foreword chronicling his journey to recreate and elevate the cinematic experience at home.

BOOTH 1343 Monitor Audio’s new Creator Series of custom models features 19 models (14 in-ceiling and five inwall) arranged in three clearly defined tiers, each offering enhanced performance levels and functionality over the preceding tier.

Across medium and large in-ceiling speaker sizes, the overall cut-out sizes remain the same as previous models, yet the driver size has increased from 6.5 inches to seven inches and from eight inches to nine inches, pushing deeper bass and better power handling.

A standout innovation across the range is the new Quik-Link terminal that revolutionizes speed of installation.

ICE Cable Shifts Manufacturing to U.S.

BOOTH 1333 ICE Cable Systems is now manufacturing in the United States.

For many years President Brian Rizzo sourced and oversaw production at overseas factories, initially in China, and later in Taiwan. Mandatory for Rizzo was that the factories would meet his stringent standards for materials, compliance, and at his own significant expense, the utilization of REELEX’s carton payout technology.

After COVID-19, Rizzo relocated the company from Los Angeles, CA, to Austin, TX. In a move to shield ICE and its dealers from potential global supply shortages such as those experienced because of the pandemic, Rizzo charted a new course, transitioning manufacturing to the U.S.

These past several years ICE has sourced and begun collaborating with domestic factories to provide the core/raw cable it requires, with the associated finishing work like coil winding, printing, and packaging now done by ICE. Bringing end-point production to Austin allows ICE to further reduce supply chain risk and apply additional innovation and customization.

Kordz Offers BeltPak Patch Cord Value Pack

BOOTH 3823 One of the most tedious exercises systems integrators encounter when installing networks is the removal of dozens, if not hundreds of individual patch cords from single use packaging. Kordz has solved these problems and more with new patentpending BeltPak.

This multi-award-winning packaging solution comprises a compact 10-pack “belt” of Kordz’ bestselling patch cords in perforated, robust, tear-off packs made from 100 percent recyclable paper. The format makes it quick and easy for systems technicians to count and carry the exact amount needed and sling them over the shoulder leaving hands free for other tasks, while the paper packaging is easily torn open and cleaned up for quick, enviro-friendly disposal.

CEDIA Expo 2024 Hosts Pickleball Meet-Up

What better way to kick-off four days of wandering around inside the Colorado Convention Center than to get outside and enjoy the beautiful Denver weather? And what better way for a bunch of our industry colleagues to get together and hang out than on the pickleball courts!

A kind of hybrid between tennis and ping pong, pickleball has been the fastest growing sport in America for the past three years. Not only is it a fun way to get some exercise, it’s one of the most social sports around, offering a great opportunity to mix, mingle, and meet new people.

On Tuesday, more than 40 CEDIA professionals from around the globe—including dealers, installers, manufacturers, public relations, and CEDIA employees—got together at The Gates Tennis Center in downtown Denver for four hours of pickleball action. Some players included Alex Capecelatro, CEO of Josh.ai, Jeremy Glowacki, editor at Residential Tech Today, Mitch Klein, CEDIA, and Eric Thies, DSI. There were also tons of women playing, including four of CE Pro’s “40 Women to Watch,” Jamie Briesemeister, Veronica Esbona, Jennifer Mallett, and Katherine Spiller.

Players were divided into three skill groups—

advanced, intermediate, and beginner—and dinked, dropped, and drived (ok, drove) in a round-robin format across multiple matches where they had a different partner and opponents for each game. This gave the maximum opportunity to meet and mix it up with a large group of industry peers.

Congratulations to Gordon van Zuiden of Daisy/ cyberManor, who took gold in the advanced group, with John Sciacca from Custom Theater and Audio/ Residential Systems taking silver and Simon Spears of Audio Gear Group grabbing bronze.

Matt Nimmons with CEDIA, EMEA came from England to win the intermediate bracket, with Aaron Singleton of Multimedia Solutions Group taking second, and Michael Storch of Storch Entertainment Systems grabbing third.

Chris Lambrecht of CWAV won the beginner bracket, with Chase Mosman of Integration Controls nabbing second and Matt Manalis of XONE (Expe-

rience One), all the way from Australia, netting third.

Winner van Zuiden said, “I can’t think of a better way to start the best trade show of the year for our industry!”

Thanks to the generosity of sponsors—which included Crestron, Daisy, Hunter Douglas, InGear Public Relations, Josh.ai, Juke Audio, Just Add Power, KMB Communications, Legrand AV, Origin Acoustics, Rosewater Energy, Somfy, Sonos, Steinway Lyngdorf, and CEDIA—there were some terrific giveaways and prizes including a logoed T-shirt and water bottle, as well as custom-made pickleball paddles. And the event raised enough money to donate $2,000 to CEDIA education!

As Spiller said, “It was too much fun for it to be a one-time event,” so hopefully this will become an annual pre-Expo kickoff!

With built-in error correction, Blacklight minimizes costly miscalculations and ensures accuracy, enabling designers to quickly turn around pricing and installation documentation for even the most complex linear systems.

EXECUTIVE INSIGHT

Coastal Source Highlights Outdoor AV

Jeff Poggi, president of Coastal Source, talks about his first year at the company and what you will experience at their booth and in their Destination Outdoors exhibit.

What are Coastal Source’s priorities and goals for CEDIA Expo?

Jeff Poggi: In Booth #3533 at CEDIA Expo 2024, Coastal Source is showcasing both products and services designed to show custom integrators how well-designed and crafted outdoor technology can significantly boost profits for their businesses. We’re planning to highlight to integrators the benefits of complementing indoor offerings with outdoor audio and lighting. With 15 years of experience, patented product solutions, and a team of five design experts offering free custom project designs, Coastal Source provides comprehensive support to help dealers succeed. Directly across from the Colorado Convention Center, the team is also excited to present an enhanced Destination Outdoors experience, in collaboration with Draper at Home, Just Video Walls, and Access Networks. Destination Outdoors showcases the latest outdoor audio and lighting solutions – combining beauty and durability for elevated outdoor living.

Outdoor AV and lighting have been having a moment for the past few years. Do you see that continuing?

JP: We definitely see the outdoor lighting and

audio market continuing to grow. The number of installers seizing the opportunity outdoor products presents continues to increase, and outdoor audio and lighting is a natural next step for customers that are already purchasing smart home tech for their homes. To best serve clients, dealers should stay updated on what products are suitable for specific landscapes, understand design principles that enhance outdoor spaces, such as sound distribution and lighting effects, and, most importantly, ensure they offer high-quality and durable products that can withstand harsh outdoor conditions for long-lasting performance.

This is your first CEDIA Expo with Coastal Source—and closing in on your first year with the company. What was the most surprising thing you learned about the company (or outdoor AV and lighting), and what are your plans for year two?

JP: It is such an amazing privilege to be part of Coastal Source. The passion, innovation, and care for the customer this company has is beyond words. Being part of a family-owned business is truly inspiring, and our main focus is how we can make the outdoor experience better for our dealers and the end consumers that they serve. In year two, I will continue to build our infrastructure—talent, processes, systems, and facilities—so that we can support the business growth that our dealers are providing us. And, of course, continue to have fun!

integrators, we’re making strides in attracting more commercial systems integrators and technology managers to the co-located shows. The progress we’ve made in this second edition is exciting as we continue to enhance the value of CIX for our attendees.

Q: What do you consider to be the “can’t miss” areas and sessions?

JM: The CEDIA Opening Keynote is a must-attend, with award-winning director Barry Sonnenfeld as a particularly exciting addition this year. The expanded Lighting Pavilion is another highlight, showcasing both existing and new brands. Networking events, including the CIX show floor reception, CEDIA Awards, and the CE Pro Band, are also must-attend

lunch, the groups reverse to do the other curriculum until the end of the day, for the wrap up at the Josh. ai headquarters.

What gave you the idea to start this program?

WB: Earlier this year, a long-time colleague who had been in the CEDIA industry since its inception, tragically passed away. T.O. Perry was a close friend of mine and a big influence on me throughout the years. I wanted to do something to honor and memorialize him, and to continue his legacy of helping others. Since we don’t have very many good ways for getting new blood into this industry, I decided this could be one way to start fixing that.

How are you able to pull this off?

WB: With his wife’s blessing, I collected funds in lieu of flowers at his memorial service. I am using those funds to take the students to the show. The hope is that we excite them about our industry and start creating more pathways into it. I had some vendors contribute funds,

visibility by having an active social media presence across Facebook/Meta, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, and especially TikTok, the third largest search engine. “I highly recommend you get your business at least on TikTok and reserve the name today,” said Wildman. Finding ways to collaborate with builders, architects, and designers can be a struggle for integrators and installers. “The number one secret? If you want

events. The blend of education, new product exploration, and networking opportunities makes this year’s event truly well-rounded. Whether you’re here for new products, personal and professional development, or to make valuable business connections, there’s something for everyone at CEDIA Expo and Commercial Integrator Expo.

Q: Once you’re off the show floor, where is your favorite place to eat in Denver?

JM: For quick eats near the convention center, I recommend Stout Street Social—a sports bar vibe with sushi, raw bar, and burgers. If you’re looking for a deli, Snarf’s Sandwiches is a great spot for lunch. For dinner, the 16th Street Mall offers some excellent options like Henry’s Tavern and Appaloosa Grill. Denver is a great city to explore on foot, and these spots offer great food and atmosphere.

VIP tours, swag for the students to take home, exciting experiences at the show, and more. T.O. was one of the longest Sonance reps around, so they made a big contribution to the fund. CEDIA is providing the space and big discounts on the education aspect to also make this happen. I will be the show floor tour guide, so that I can personally introduce the students to some of the movers and shakers of our industry.

Is there anything that really stands out that they can expect?

WB: Inside an exciting day, Kyle Steele’s presentation will be very interesting. He was really happy to help. I’ve enjoyed hearing how he and others made their way into the CEDIA industry, either on purpose or by accident. We have a ton of people surrounding us who are behind-the-scenes rockstars, but a few who were steps from stardom.

What is the plan after the show?

WB: My hope is that CEDIA or another group will see the value in a program like this. It would be great if it is such a success that they will want to take it over and continue it.

to get an audience talking to those people, you must—as your company and business—become their number one fan,” Wildman revealed. “Because if you are their number one fan, they’re going to have a hard time telling you they don’t want to work with you.”

“You don’t have to create the perfect content,” said Wildman. “Don’t be paralyzed by perfection— use the tools out there to speak to your customers and help them understand how your business can help them.”
