CEO Foreword

FIA is committed to supporting members and the broader fundraising community through quality professional education and training. The 2024 program has been developed based on member and sector input and requirements.

While fundraising organisations continue to face challenges across all facets of their organisation, it remains so critical that fundraising professionals prioritise their own education and training in order to make a greater impact.

The 2024 program is enhanced by a new learning management platform and a greater range of courses led by expert facilitators and tutors with first-hand fundraising experience. The program also includes workshops, one and two-day courses and shorter options. Our highly respected Certificate and Diploma courses have both been redesigned and updated to stay current with latest sector trends and practices.

Whether you are a junior fundraiser, a mid-level professional or senior executive, FIA has a professional education opportunity to suit your needs. FIA’s goal is to support your career journey and growth as a professional fundraiser and leader.

FIA’s National Mentoring Program

ATTRACTS CFRE POINTS

The 2023-2024 program has been proudly sponsored by

Connect with someone outside your usual professional network and gain access to new ways of thinking and working.

Participating in FIA’s National Mentoring Program is your opportunity to gain advice, offer support and improve your understanding of fundraising and the broader non-profit sector. Both mentees and mentors benefit from exchanging ideas and exploring different approaches to problems and the changing fundraising environment.

Program participation is an exclusive benefit of FIA membership.

Mentor-Mentee partnerships are made based upon mentees’ career aspirations and the offered skill areas of mentors, with matches made nationally. During the eight-month program, we ask that mentors and mentees meet for a minimum of four 90-minute sessions at times that are mutually determined, typically via Zoom or Teams.

FIA provides participants with a toolkit of resources and a series of workshops to help establish your partnership and provide professional development as you work on professional goals together.

HOW IT WILL HELP YOUR CAREER

As a mentee, get support and guidance with professional goals specific to you and the current stage of your fundraising career. From donor stewardship to transitioning to management or senior leadership, the FIA National Mentoring Program offers the opportunity to grow within the sector.

Mentors gain personal satisfaction and give back to a sector full of passionate individuals. Mentoring can be an enriching experience that contributes to the future of the fundraising profession.

Applications for 2024-2025 open in June 2024 and the program will run from September 2024 to May 2025. For more details, please see our website: www.fia.org.au or contact us at training@fia.org.au

In today’s crowded fundraising marketplace, the time worn phrase “A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush” is more applicable than ever. Bringing in new donors is one of the hardest tasks of fundraising. Typically, a mailing to prospective donors will result in only a 1 or 2 per cent return. This course will teach participants the importance of keeping new donors through strategic initiatives in donor centricity and retention. With more than half of new donors failing to make a second gift, it is imperative that Australian fundraisers focus on this core deficit. We look at current retention trends and show how donor-centricity can result in a dramatic improvement in donor retention.

In Sargeant and Jay’s book “Fundraising Management: Analysis, Planning and Practice” it was shared that longitudinal analysis demonstrates that charities who consistently convey and reinforce what makes them distinctive, outperform others in the long run. Fundraisers can gain strategic control of this distinctive narrative through careful cross-organisation collaboration to define their charity’s value proposition. A value proposition tells prospective supporters why they should support you rather than anyone else, and it makes the benefits of your obvious fundraising offer from the outset. In this short course you will learn what makes a good value proposition and discover methodologies for developing one for your organisation.
