Premiere Event Act II Red Carpet Event at the Mennello Museum

The "stars" were out on Tuesday evening, April 25, at Orlando's Mennello Museum of American Art, to launch Act II, the newest addition to FUMCWP's growing ministry. The event was a private showing of The Art of 1934, a collection on loan from the Smithsonian Institution. The purpose was to enjoy a time of fun, food, and culture while meeting new friends and deepening relationships with those we already know.

Over 90 "starlets" began the evening with a promenade down the Red Carpet, for one of the three new activities being offered by Act II: social, service, and study. The paparazzi, led by Dr. Bob Willson, captured the celebrities as they made their grand entrances, where they were greeted by Act II leaders Jack and Janet Hays, and one of the event's coordinators, Dr. Mary Palmer. Strains of the 1934 hit "The Continental" and smiles from Act II hosts Carol Holloway, Michael Kormanicki, and Larry and Debbie Kirkwood greeted the arrivals at the museum entrance. Guests were ushered in to a gallery of a permanent museum collection where they were met Act II hosts Jayne and Bob Evans, Susan Baxa, Diane Stadelman, Sharon Helsby, Apie and Erna van Zyl. Everyone enjoyed refreshments and visiting. Dr. Palmer introduced the museum staff and the doyens who would escort four groups through the 1934 exhibition. The focus of the tours was observing how the artists, commissioned by President Roosevelt, captured the heroic spirit and courage of our American experience during a time, not unlike the one we face now, of great adversity and challenge when faith, stronger than ever, is needed to lift us back on our spiritual foundation.
