peach to market with calibre A and harvested from April 25th. These are followed by Plagold 15, Plagold 17, Plagold 20, Plagold 21, Plagold 22 Sweet, Plagold 25 (also known as the “machine” because the size of the fruit, about 200 grammes/piece). Among nectarines, we have Viowhite 5, highly recommended for Huelva, where it can be harvested from March 29th, with a calibre of 65 mL and 12º Brix. These are followed in stages by Viowhite 10, Viowhite 15 and Viowhite 20. Within yellow-fleshed nectarines, we are leading the market with Zincal 3, bright red with 10º Brix, harvested from April 20th, almost a week earlier than any from our competitors. A few days later, we have Zincal 8 with calibre A. All this is complemented by Zincal 9, Zincal 10, Zincal 17, Zincal 20 and Zincal 30 Sweet, with 200 grammes/piece. As for flat peaches, Planasa’s harvest begins around May 10th. To explain it in terms of the references already on the market, it’s like a UFO 3 that is picked 10 days before UFO 2. Blanvio 10 is harvested 20 days before the Carioca. It is a flat peach with white flesh, a high sugar content, and surprising colouring. The price it commands is not beaten by any other variety as it has no competition. We also have another very intersting variety, between UFO 4 and Sweet Cap. How has Planasa been viewing the boom in flat nectarines? I think the spherical varieties will end up being replaced by these flat varieties. We have two varieties of flat nectarine, one with white flesh, the Platina 40, and the other with yellow flesh, Planasol 50. Both have high yields, with more than 17º Brix, and a wonderful pistil closure. I would like to point out that there are programmes on the market to improve fruit crops aimed at yielding very hard varieties with a long shelf life, large calibre and very eye-catching but they have no flavour or even sometimes taste disgusting. At Planasa we feel it is a serious mistake to make consumers eat less and less fruit. Our aim is to achieve varieties that satisfy consumers’ taste buds and help them enjoy eating our fruit.
