Lift Every Voice: A Lenten Journey of Justice

Day 8: The Lord Loves Justice

Scripture: Isaiah.❷7¿❹.(NIV)

"For I, the LORD, love justice; I hate robbery and wrongdoing. In my faithfulness, I will reward my people and make an everlasting covenant with them."

Song: Negro.Spiritual. .ƒWade.in.the.Waterƒ

Wade.in.the.water?.wade.in.the.water?.children?

Wade.in.the.water?.God҂s.gonna.trouble.the.water¡

Reflection:

Justice is not optional it is the heartbeat of God. Throughout Scripture, God stands against oppression and calls His people to do the same. This means justice is more than an abstract idea; it’s a lifestyle. Will we wade into the waters of righteousness, or will we stand on the shore of complacency?

Prayer:

God of justice, make me bold enough to step into the waters of change. Help me to stand for what is right, even when the current of the world pushes against me. Amen.

Day 9: The Cost of Following Christ

Scripture: Luke.❺¿89.(NIV)

"Then he said to them all: 'Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.'"

Song: Hispanic.Christian.Song. .ƒDame.un.Nuevo.Corazón?.Señorƒ Spanish: Dame.un.nuevo.corazón?.Señor?

Un.corazón.para.adorarte?

Un.corazón.para.servirte¡ English:

Give.me.a.new.heart?.Lord?

A.heart.to.worship.You?

A.heart.to.serve.You¡

Reflection:

The cross is not just a symbol; it is a calling. To follow Jesus is to embrace sacrifice, humility, and justice. The cost is high, but the reward is eternal. What do you need to deny in order to pick up your cross today?

Prayer:

Jesus, give me a heart that reflects Yours. Strip away my selfishness so that I may walk fully in Your call to justice and love. Amen.

Day 10: The Righteous Cry Out

Scripture: Psalm.90¿7❸.(NIV)

"The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles."

Song: Negro.Spiritual. .ƒNobody.Knows.the.Trouble.I҂ve.Seenƒ

Nobody.knows.the.trouble.I҂ve.seen?

Nobody.knows.but.Jesus¡

Reflection:

God is not distant from our struggles. He hears the cries of the righteous and moves to deliver them. If you are weary, know that Jesus understands. If you see injustice, do not grow silent God hears and acts.

Prayer:

Lord, hear the cries of the weary and the oppressed. Let me be a voice of hope and an agent of Your justice in the world. Amen.

Day 11: Faith Without Works is Dead

Scripture: James.8¿7❸.(NIV)

"In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead."

Song: Hispanic.Christian.Song. .ƒEnviame.a.Miƒ

Spanish:

He.oído.tu.voz.y.quiero.responder? Aquí.estoy?.envíame.a.mí¡

English:

I.have.heard.Your.voice.and.I.want.to.respond? Here.I.am?.send.me¡

Reflection:

Faith is more than belief it is movement. Too often, we pray for change while refusing to be the change. What is God calling you to do today? Where is He sending you?

Prayer:

Lord, do not let my faith be empty. Send me where You need me. May my faith be lived out in love and action. Amen.

Day 12: Justice Rolls Like a River

Scripture: Amos.❶¿80.(NIV)

"But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!"

Song: Negro.Spiritual. .ƒAin"t.Got.Time.to.Dieƒ

Lord?.I.keep.so.busy.praisin".my.Jesus?

Ain"t.got.time.to.die*

Reflection:

Justice is not a moment; it is a movement. It must keep flowing, unstoppable and life-giving. We cannot afford to be passive while oppression remains. Are we part of the river, or are we blocking its flow?

Prayer:

God of righteousness, make me a vessel of Your justice. Let my life be part of the river that brings change. Amen.

Day 13: The Least of These

Scripture: Matthew.8❶¿06.(NIV)

"Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."

Song: Hispanic.Christian.Song. .ƒTu.Fidelidadƒ

Spanish:

Tu.fidelidad.es.grande?

Tu.fidelidad.incomparable.es¡

English:

Your.faithfulness.is.great?

Your.faithfulness.is.incomparable¡

Reflection:

Jesus makes it clear: the way we treat the poor, the sick, the prisoner, and the marginalized is how we treat Him. Justice is not a suggestion; it is the measure of our faith.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to see You in the least of these. May I serve with love and humility, knowing that in them, I see Your face. Amen.

Day 14: The Call to Persevere

Scripture: Galatians.❷¿❺.(NIV)

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."

Song: Negro.Spiritual. .ƒHold.On.(Keep.Your.Hand.on.the.Plow)ƒ Keep.your.hand.on.the.plow.and.hold.on*

Reflection:

Justice work is exhausting. The fight for righteousness is long. But we are called to persevere, knowing that God’s promises are sure. Do not give up. Keep your hand on the plow.

Prayer:

Lord, when I grow weary, strengthen me. Keep my eyes on the harvest and my hands steady in the work of justice. Amen.
