Lift Every Voice: A Lenten Journey of Justice

Week 5: Days 29–35

Day 29: The God Who Sees

Scripture: Genesis 16:13 (NIV)

"She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: 'You are the God who sees me.'"

Song: Contemporary Gospel – “You Know My Name” by Tasha Cobbs Leonard You know my name… And oh, how You walk with me, oh how You talk with me.

Reflection:

Hagar, a marginalized and abused woman, names God not by His power, but by His attention “The God who sees me.” Today, know this: God sees you. He sees those society ignores. Let that truth shape how we treat others.

Prayer:

God who sees, open my eyes to truly see others. Help me to acknowledge those who feel invisible and reflect Your love in how I respond. Amen.

Day 30: A Heart for Justice

Scripture: Ezekiel 36:26 (NIV)

"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh."

Song: Hispanic Christian Song – “Renueva Mi Ser”

Spanish:

Renueva mi ser, Señor Jesús, Ya no quiero ser igual.

English:

Renew my being, Lord Jesus, I don’t want to be the same.

Reflection:

We can’t pursue justice with hardened hearts. God wants to soften us to break through apathy and transform us into people who feel deeply and act boldly. Let Lent be a heart surgery.

Prayer:

Lord, give me a new heart. Remove my indifference, soften my spirit, and stir in me a passion for justice. Amen.

Day 31: Do Not Be Afraid

Scripture: Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)

"So do not fear, for I am with you… I will strengthen you and help you."

Song: Negro Spiritual – “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands” He’s got the whole world in His hands… He’s got you and me, brother, in His hands.

Reflection:

Justice work can be overwhelming. The problems are big, and we often feel small. But God says: Fear not. You are not alone in this work He holds you, sustains you, strengthens you.

Prayer:

Lord, when fear rises, let faith rise higher. Remind me that You hold the whole world including the broken parts in Your hands. Amen.

Day 32: Lift Up the Lowly

Scripture: Luke 1:52 (NIV)

"He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble."

Song: Contemporary Gospel – “I Smile” by Kirk Franklin

Today's a new day, but there is no sunshine… I smile, even though I hurt, see I smile.

Reflection:

God flips the script. His kingdom lifts up the lowly and humbles the proud. Who in your life needs lifting today? What system needs disrupting? Justice imitates God's upside-down love.

Prayer:

God of reversal, make me an agent of Your kingdom. Let me lift others the way You’ve lifted me. Amen.

Day 33: Love Does No Harm

Scripture: Romans 13:10 (NIV)

"Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law."

Song: Hispanic Christian Song – “Amor Tan Grande”

Spanish:

Amor tan grande, amor tan real, Amor que no puedo explicar.

English:

Such great love, such real love, Love I cannot explain.

Reflection:

God’s justice is grounded in love. Not performative love. Not empty declarations. Real love that does no harm. That listens. That includes. That acts. This love changes everything.

Prayer:

God of true love, teach me to love deeply and with care. Let my love be active and healing, never harmful. Amen.

Day 34: Rejoice in Hope

Scripture: Romans 12:12 (NIV)

"Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer."

Song: Negro Spiritual – “This Little Light of Mine” This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.

Reflection:

Hope is an act of resistance. It says, “I still believe” when the world gives you every reason to quit. Justice is fueled by hope that refuses to die. Don’t hide your light let it shine.

Prayer:

Lord, restore my hope today. Help me to shine even when it’s hard. Let my joy be a testimony to Your faithfulness. Amen.

Day 35: God Will Restore

Scripture: Joel 2:25 (NIV)

"I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten…"

Song: Contemporary Gospel – “Restoration” by Lecrae ft. BJ the Chicago Kid

You’ve given me joy, You’ve given me freedom, You’ve given me grace, and a brand new beginning.

Reflection:

Loss is real. So is restoration. God promises not only to heal but to redeem what was stolen. As Lent nears its end, believe that justice includes restoration for you, your family, your community.

Prayer:

God of redemption, restore what has been taken and repair what has been broken. Thank You for second chances and new beginnings. Amen.
