A Nation Needs Its Heroes

Thank you for your support of our nation’s heroes and their families! Heroes Hockey Challenge Not every amazing idea turns into a successful reality. But with perseverance and a lot of hard work, the concept of combining two Canadian icons - Canada’s national sport of hockey and the world’s finest soldiers - to create a fundraising event in support of our military and their families came to fruition in 2012. Conceived in 2010 by Glenn Cumyn and refined by the original partners and Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) Foundation, Heroes Hockey Challenge (HHC) shines the spotlight on some of this nation’s greatest heroes for the benefit of Canada’s unsung heroes. Glenn grew up as the son of Chief Warrant Officer (retired) Jim and Ruth Cumyn, an amalgamated 65 years of service to the Canadian military. Currently, Glenn has no less than five direct family members and countless friends serving our country. Now a series of charitable hockey fundraising events which take place annually in communities across Western Canada, the inspirational Yellow Ribbon Gala Dinner and NHL Alumni vs. Canadian Forces veterans hockey game have become “must-attend” events for fans of all ages. The PPLCI Foundation is proud to partner with the Edmonton Garrison Military Family Resource Centre for this year’s HHC in Edmonton, with net proceeds from the event shared equally between the two organizations to support their programs and services.
