The mission of Franklin Classical School is to provide a biblically based education that is both academically excellent and spiritually vital to enable young men and women to know and serve the Lord Jesus Christ and to transform families, institutions, and nations for the glory of God.
FCS has a vision to raise up the next generation of Christian cultural and spiritual leaders through modeling a biblical pattern of discipleship through parent-directed, covenantal, and classical education; to lay foundation for economic and social justice, artistic excellence, intellectual achievement, worldview discernment, physical health, and evangelistic passion so that students may ultimately attain their high callings and realize their destinies Therefore, the curriculum is both college preparatory and mission preparatory; it is both academically accelerated and socially responsive; it is both community oriented and globally minded.
FCS has been a member in good standing of the Association of Christian Schools International since 1996 and Association of Classical Christian Schools since 2004 FCS is a registered Category IV, church-related school with the state of Tennessee and a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the Internal Revenue Service.
Classical education is a conscious return to the academic disciplines and methodologies that helped spark the great cultural flowering of Western Christendom over the past thousand years, including Humanities, the canon of Western Literature, Latin, Logic, and Rhetoric Stressing more than the simple repetition of information, the Classical method focuses on teaching students how to think and learn for themselves as well as to love learning In addition, we utilize the methods of Christendom by including a rigorous approach to the Trivium, journaling, reading, composition skills based in part on the exercises of the progymnasmata, note taking, oral recitations and presentations, and the study of primary sources across academic disciplines.
These methods culminate with an oral defense of a thesis as well as a study abroad tour of England in the senior year
FCS offers a full curriculum from grades K-12 Our college preparatory curriculum allows students to graduate with all necessary state credits, yet the school is still structured so that parents may choose to homeschool for select subjects.
Humanities is the foundation upon which our commitment to excellent education is built. This course is a study of world culture emphasizing the basic classical scholastic approach of moral philosophy–thus equipping students with the tools for a lifetime of learning: a working knowledge of the timetables of history, a background understanding of the great literary classics, a familiarity with the sweep of art, music and ideas, a worldview comprehension of basic geography, a principled approach to discerning the significance of current events, and an emphasis on a Christian life paradigm. The idea is to study human achievement in context both in terms of its historical and societal sequence and in terms of its providential and cultural importance. Out of this integrated understanding of God’s world, every other subject and discipline is formed.
As we marked 31 years as a school, Dr George Grant continued as FCS Chancellor, and Mr Justin Scherrer accepted the mantle as Upper Division Humanities teacher. The student/teacher ratio was 8:9, and over 50 churches were represented in our FCS community FCS provided over $280,000 to families in financial assistance with 50% of our families receiving some form of discount or aid. We have over $1.1 million set aside for our future home.
The Comenius School, the FCS homeschool umbrella program, just completed its 30th year. TCS offers legal covering for homeschool families, standardized testing, grade and attendance reporting, curriculum advising, college counseling, a biannual newsletter, PSAT testing, ACT/SAT/CLT accommodations support and special testing, and opportunities to compete in FCS athletics as well as transcripts and high school diplomas that align with Tennessee standards for graduation, including a Special Education Diploma program for students with special learning needs.
During the 2023-2024 sports seasons, our athletic department served 273 students in 10 sports and several camps The Varsity men’s basketball team won not only their division championship, they also won the Division 5 NACA National Tournament Our Middle School girls’ volleyball team and Grammar School girls’ cross-country team each won their division championships. The Lady Knights volleyball team finished as the Division 2 runner-up and competed for the 1st time in NACA Division 3 nationals
School
Our 13 seniors were offered over $4,000,000 in merit scholarships, and all were accepted into the college of their choice Two received Presidential Scholarships based on academic merit, three were accepted into Honors programs, and for the second year in a row, one received the highest merit-based scholarship Samford University offered this year Eleven seniors earned Honors study abroad credit for their tour of London and Cambridge. Twenty-one students earned 1st and 2nd place medals in the Universal Latin Exam. Three Lower Division students won the gold medal in the team competition at the BGA Fall Linguistics Olympiad, scoring more points than the 2nd and 3rd place winners combined. Forty-one of our 10th-12th graders won recognition from ACSI for excellent achievement in categories such as Leadership, Christian Service, Academics, Athletics, and Fine Arts The American Legion Girls State and Boys State again invited FCS to nominate two rising seniors for each event because of the outstanding character of participants from FCS.
