Melinda Mahand Academic Dean mmahand1@franklinclassical.com Dr. George Grant Chancellor dr.grant@franklinclassical.comThe mission of Franklin Classical School is to provide a biblically-based education that is both academically excellent and spiritually vital to enable young men and women to know and serve the Lord Jesus Christ and to transform families, institutions, and nations for the glory of God.
FCS has a vision to raise up the next generation of Christian cultural and spiritual leaders through modeling a biblical pattern of discipleship through parent-directed, covenantal, and classical education; to lay foundation for economic and social justice, artistic excellence, intellectual achievement, worldview discernment, physical health, and evangelistic passion so that students may ultimately attain their high callings and realize their destinies. Therefore, the curriculum is both college preparatory and mission preparatory; it is both academically accelerated and socially responsive; it is both community oriented and globally minded.
FCS has been a member in good standing of the Association of Christian Schools International since 1996 and Association of Classical Christian Schools since 2004 FCS is a registered Category IV, church-related school with the state of Tennessee and a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the Internal Revenue Service.
Classical Education
Classical education is a conscious return to the academic disciplines and methodologies that helped spark the great cultural flowering of Western Christendom over the past thousand years, including Humanities, the canon of Western Literature, Latin, Logic, and Rhetoric. Stressing more than the simple repetition of information, the Classical method focuses on teaching students how to think and learn for themselves as well as to love learning In addition, we utilize the methods of Christendom by including a rigorous approach to the Trivium, journaling, reading, composition skills based in part on the exercises of the progymnasmata, note taking, oral recitations and presentations, and the study of primary sources across academic disciplines. These methods culminate with an oral defense of a thesis as well as a study abroad tour of England in the senior year.
FCS offers a full curriculum from grades K-12. Our college preparatory curriculum allows students to graduate with all necessary state credits, yet the school is still structured so that parents may choose to homeschool for select subjects.
Humanities is the foundation upon which our commitment to excellent education is built This course is a study of world culture emphasizing the basic classical scholastic approach of moral philosophy–thus equipping students with the tools for a lifetime of learning: a working knowledge of the timetables of history, a background understanding of the great literary classics, a familiarity with the sweep of art, music and ideas, a worldview comprehension of basic geography, a principled approach to discerning the significance of current events, and an emphasis on a Christian life paradigm. The idea is to study human achievement in context both in terms of its historical and societal sequence and in terms of its providential and cultural importance Out of this integrated understanding of God’s world, every other subject and discipline is formed

Our 21 seniors were offered $2,790,816 in merit scholarships, and all were accepted into the college of their choice. Five received Presidential Scholarships based on academic merit Six were accepted in to Honors programs One received an exclusive Air Force ROTC scholarship, and one received the highest merit-based scholarship Samford University awarded this year. Twenty seniors earned Honors study abroad credit for their tour of London, led by Dr George Grant Five students earned medals in the Universal Latin Exam Three Lower Division students won the Silver Medal in the Team Competition at the BGA Fall Linguistics Olympiad. Our Grammar School and Lower Division spelling bee winners qualified for the TN Titans Regional Spelling Bee Forty of our 10th-12th graders qualified to win recognition from ACSI for excellent achievement in categories such as Leadership, Christian Service, Academics, Athletics, and Fine Arts. American Legion Girls State and Boys State invited FCS to nominate 2 rising seniors for each event (twice the number most schools are allowed to nominate) because of the outstanding character of FCS nominees in the past few years.
