MEET MR. CARSON!

FCS’s New Administrative Principal, effective July 1, 2025

A native of South Carolina, Tom Carson’s first teaching experience was teaching guitar lessons while an undergraduate student studying electrical engineering at the University of South Carolina He met his future wife, Laura, in the university cafeteria (Ask Laura to tell that story!) While there, he played in a band, a passion he continues to the present Fun fact: one of the other bands around campus at the time was Hootie and the Blowfish

After graduating in 1989, Mr Carson felt drawn to teaching and pursued a Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics After completing the degree, he taught mathematics at Midlands Technical College from 1991 to 2003. He and Laura married in 1992 and they have two children: Ian born in 1996, and Lindsey born in 1998

In 2003, Mr Carson left teaching to pursue authoring math textbooks full time and has a series of algebra books published by Pearson Sensing a call back to the classroom, the Carson family relocated to Franklin in 2006 where Mr. Caron taught part time at Columbia State Community College

Shortly after arriving in Franklin, Mr and Mrs Carson shared their story with their Sunday school class Mr Carson relayed that although Columbia State brought the family to Franklin, he didn’t feel that was the real reason the Lord led them here. After sharing this, Melinda Mahand approached, introduced herself and said, “I know why you ’ re here!” From that divine appointment, Mr. Carson began teaching at FCS in 2007. Mr. and Mrs. Carson were so impressed with FCS that they enrolled their children as soon as possible (FCS began at 5th grade at the time) Both children graduated from FCS: Ian in 2015 and Lindsey in 2016

Throughout the journey with FCS, Mr. and Mrs. Carson have been involved in leadership. Mr Carson has been department head of math and science (Natural Philosophy) since 2008 and a board member since 2016 He also coached the golf team from 2013 to 2023 Mrs Carson served as a grade parent for each child until their graduation

Mr. and Mrs. Carson have a deep love for the Lord and have been active in church life throughout their marriage Mr Carson has played guitar in worship team, run sound, and been a trustee Together, they have led small groups, acted in both live skits and video productions, and even led a coffee house ministry

Mr. and Mrs. Carson are so thankful the Lord brought FCS into their lives and they desire to serve the FCS community in whatever capacity the Lord leads

Some fun facts about Mr Carson: Besides mathematics, he loves Tolkien, history, Greek & Hebrew, golf, hunting with his bird dogs, and playing guitar in his band, Groovebox

We are so grateful for Dr Miller and how he has cared for FCS these last few months and are thankful for his leadership to come as he fulfills his term through June 30, 2025, helping Mr Carson transition into the Administrative Principal role God is so good!

Mr. Carson wrote our Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, and Algebra II textbooks!

Mr. Carson is a rock ‘ n roll musician!

Mr. Carson met his wife Laura at the University of South Carolina.

Dear FCS Parents and Community,

With the upcoming holiday season, I am hopeful that you have a wonderful time planned with family and friends for this Thanksgiving season. Over the last few months, as I have observed and interacted with your children, it would seem you have a multitude of reasons to be thankful.

We should praise the Lord for our many blessings. We are also in the beginning stages of a new adventure toward the future of FCS, which, from my perspective, looks to be strong and continuing to flourish. We hope you will join us in that adventure. We have been working to update the FCS website fundraising page. Please take some time to visit our school page, www franklinclassical com On the Support page you will have an option to select the General Fund. You will now find a drop-down option for giving to the General Fund, Capital Campaign, or our Year-End-Challenge. Please consider making an end-of-year donation to FCS. This challenge will raise money for immediate classroom needs. Please share the attached flyer with friends and family who may be looking for end-of-year giving opportunities. As we continue to build our fundraising efforts, please stay tuned for information on a parent fundraising committee that will become more active in the new year. Again, my best wishes to you and your family in this season of gratefulness and thanks
