REPORTTHE

Well, what a whirl wind 3 months it’s been since I became president.

I would firstly like to express my sincere thanks to all of the hard work the committee has done over the last 3 months implementing some rather exciting projects.

I thought I would briefly list the achievements of the committee in this period;

Moving our meetings to the Manningham hotel with excellent attendances so far which has been pleasing,

The release of the 25th anniversary shirt which looks great. Well done Alex and team for getting this done so quickly. I encourage those who haven’t purchased a shirt to do so asap as we have limited numbers,

The booking of the 25th Anniversary luncheon at the Poowong Hotel on the 10th of December, with a fantastic club run and show & shine planned. Please keep your eyes open on the club website and magazine for further details. Well done Kory and Alan for putting this together,

The Holinger factory tour with 40 members in attendance which is extremely pleasing to see the support of these events, well done Karyn on putting this together and Kory for bringing the bbq trailer and doing the cooking and to those that helped,

The club cruise to Portarlington which was thoroughly enjoyed by members with more exciting cruises to come. Thanks Alan for your contribution so far,

Nearly all sponsorship monies payed. Thanks Smithy for chasing this up as this money and support is critical to keeping the club financially viable. Please support our sponsors and keep these valuable relationships strong,

The membership data base has been cleaned up with Jen and Karyn doing a fantastic job making sure we have true and correct membership numbers and details.

Coming into daylight savings and hopefully better weather gives all of us the opportunity to get out and use our cars. I encourage everyone to support the upcoming events that are planned and have fun as this is what makes the club a fantastic place.

I look forward to seeing as many members as possible over the coming months at the club meetings and social events that have been planned.

Hi all.

Our new Committee is working hard to bring a wide range of events and new products to members. The 25th Anniversary is an important occasion for the Club and I encourage everyone to come along to the Club’s activities. For example, the Holinger Engineering night was eye opening and a tremendous case of Australian endeavour. Holinger management clearly showed their pride in their company.

Similarly I encourage everyone to show your pride in this Club and purchase a fantastic 25th Anniversary polo.

Correspondence received since the last Newsletter includes:

Motorsport Australia: Re-affiliation notice and Speed Read.

Shannons (Club Sponsor): eNews.

Various suppliers/businesses offering deals/ discounts or news: Summernats, Wholesale Automatics, The Bend and Rare Spares.

If you are interested in any item listed above, send me an email and I will on-forward the applicable correspondence.

Secretarial activities have centred around the minutes for the Club and Committee meetings. Many thanks to Andy Christie and Keith Alexander for standing in whilst I have been away.

In late August and September I travelled to Birdsville by 4WD camping up, around and back again. The highlights were the Birdsville races, a flight over Lake Eyre, staying in Coober Pedy and the amazing outback scenery and relics. 25+mm of rain at Birdsville on the Thursday created boggy conditions everywhere closing roads and the caravan park (authorities closed town roads so campers could park caravans & pitch tents and swags on the roads).

On race day, the soaked dirt track was graded and graded and graded. Initially I thought we might only see a race between the circulating graders. Racing eventually started after 3 o’clock. A fun event.

Unfortunately, the rain prevented a crossing of the Simpson Desert. Maybe next time. This trip is highly recommended to gain an appreciation of the scale of Australia, the scenery and outback ruins and people.

I felt jinxed when camping at Bathurst for the big race in October when again rain fell. Car parks were closed, races cancelled and mud was nearly everywhere but still a great event. I think the best event in the past 10 years. The only constant when travelling was the atrocious NSW road conditions. Potholes everywhere and some very large. Driving resembled a slalom event in some places. I loved stretching the GT’s legs on the NSW rural roads (roads permitting).

The year is rapidly drawing to a close and XMAS approaching. Please keep safe and enjoy.

Cheers

IN ONE WORD WET…….. END OF REPORT!

In fact it was wet, cold, hot, windy, foggy, rainy, muddy ………..I could go on and on, but I wouldn’t be anywhere else.

We traveled up on Monday in fantastic weather, dodging potholes and admiring the green countryside. We were ready for a fantastic week of camping, cars and adventures. We were all set up by late afternoon and enjoyed the first beer of the week……little did we know what was instore for us weather wise.

We enjoyed a warm Tuesday with clear skies and cold beer…… perfect so far. It was a full house up the top of the mountain this year and the ‘old vibe’ was back. The atmosphere was pumping with everyone setting up ready for a big week.

Wednesday arrived with rain (and it didn’t stop until Saturday). The driver’s parade was a washout, but it still went ahead with some drivers braving the elements in open top cars, but most had tops up as they were getting soaked.

Bathurst is as much about the camping as it is the cars. We all like to sit around the campfire, but with the constant rain, maintaining the fire and keeping things dry it wasn’t as relaxed as previous years……when will this bloody rain stop.

All the campers dug trenches to divert the water, some even ordered tanbark to be delivered so their sites were more manageable and some just up and left as the ground was to muddy.

Thursday the cars hit the track in shocking conditions, but this is Bathurst, so it’s suck it up and have a crack! The buildup to the shoot out on Saturday was highly anticipated but was a bit of a fizzer due the changing conditions.

Enough about the rain, we were there for the racing and what a race it was. A great program with all drivers pushed to their limits in consistent rain. This year on top of the mountain there were more marquees up as we expected rain Sunday morning. The rain didn’t eventuate, and the marquee tops came down and the cars hit the track…..Bring it on.

The race was the last chance for Holden to win before turning to Chevrolet. All the Holdens were quick over the top, but I still had hope with the mighty blue oval raining on their parade, but that wasn’t to be.

Pack up on Monday morning was in zero degrees with a big frost (but no rain), everything was wet and muddy. The tractors arrived early to drag out the punters who had no hope of getting out of the boggy conditions. We were lucky to be homeward bound by 8am.

Ricciardo’s Racers is designed for children aged 12–17, learning the basics of motorsport and building their skills through fun exercises in provided cars.

The exercises are designed for small groups to ensure that every child gets a chance to learn new skills from our expert instructors in a safe environment. After they have mastered the basics of car control, they will be ready to progress to participate in club level events.

Ricciardo’s Racers Junior Drive Days are set up to cater to all skill levels, with individual instruction tailored to a participant’s driving experience.

State Government Kids Voucher programs assist children and young people with the costs of participation in sport and active recreation activities. Please refer to the FAQ section at the bottom of this page for more information.

RICCIARDO’S RACERS

The course is held on a skidpan at low speed, presented in a fun and safe environment. Our expert instructors will guide participants through a series of activities on the day to develop life-long driving skills.

An introductory classroom session will cover the basics in vehicle dynamics and car control, before moving on to a practical exercise on the skidpan. Participants will be guided by expert instructors through a series of activities such as emergency braking, turning exercises, and other car control skills.

The Ricciardo’s Racers day will conclude with a timed slalom event, giving participants a taste of entry-level motorsport, which they can then go onto access through our network of Motorsport Australia affiliated car clubs.

Safe and suitable vehicles will also be provided for participants on the day.

OUT & ABOUT

4. The 2022 Bentley ‘Blower’ Continuation

A column for members to contribute items of interest seen when ‘out and about’ in their travels, from reading or from other media. I’ll kick off with a few of my own items over the past few weeks:

1. James Bond Aston Martin

This car is currently on display at the RACV Club Healesville and is the actual car used in the Bond movie, “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” with George Lazenby and Dianna Rigg. Anyone can walk in to see it on Level 2. Have a coffee or bite to eat at Riddell’s Green café whilst you are out there.

This is another fascinating story from the August 2022 Octane magazine. 92 years after the first ‘Blower” models rolled off the production line in 1930, Bentley are delivering 12 recently built continuation cars at a cost of GBP 1.5 million each. Are the owners of the first edition Blowers built in 1930 upset? You bet they are! 10 such owners wrote an open letter to Bentley asking them to cease this project.

I wonder how the owners of XY Falcon GT HO Phase III’s would feel about Ford producing say, another 100 of these iconic cars as a continuation model?

Will there be further continuation models from Bentley? A Bentley spokesman stated, “We would be very foolish, given the amount of knowledge that we’ve acquired in doing this project, not to do another.”

https://www.bentleymotors.com/en/models/mulliner/classic/blowercontinuation-series.html

2. Ssssh, Electric Vehicle Battery Replacement Cost

This is no surprise to those who are familiar with the spin pumped out by some leading proponents of electric vehicles (EV’s). During a recent interview, the Herald Sun editor mentioned that he asked 10 EV manufacturers to provide him with the replacement cost of the battery in their vehicles. Only 2 replied, with the Lexus replacement cost being $47,000 after 8 years. This is similar to the price quoted by Tesla a few years ago. Such a cost is expected to have a serious impact on the used or trade-in values of these cars, even after a few years. Basically, an owner is looking at crushing or wrecking such vehicles for parts after 8 years.

3. Hang On To Your CD’s and CD Players

Good news for those of us with sizeable CD collections. The Recording Industry Association of America advised that shipments of CD’s rose from 31.6 million in 2020 to 46.6 million in 2021 – the first year-on-year increase in such sales since 2004. In order to cope with this demand, a McIntosh MCD 1200 CD Player is available at a mere GBP 13,995!

www.mcintoshlabs.com

5. Early 1950’s Vincent Comet Motorbike

An example in similar condition to the one in this photo was sighted outside the Beechworth Bakery, Healesville on a recent October Saturday morning. Worth some $50,000 to $100,000 it was great to see that its watchful owner believes it should be ridden. It’s riding companions were some 1950’s Triumphs and a 1930’s/1940’s Velocette.

Greetings All,

The Bathurst 1000 has been won and lost, the Spring Racing Carnival is looming and our end of year lunch in on the horizon!

Saturday 10th December is the big day with a cruise to the Poowong Hotel, complete with a Show and Shine, 25th Anniversary celebration, a raffle and silent auction together with a hearty end of year country lunch in the beautiful South Gippsland Hills. More details of this event will be announced soon.

The visit to the Holinger transmission factory on 27th September was a great success with some 40 members attending. It is so heartening to see an Australian manufacturing company kicking goals in the world markets! Many thanks to Karyn for organizing this event and to the Holinger company and their staff for making themselves available when under much work pressure.

Unfortunately, I did not make it to the Motorclassica show at the Royal Exhibition Buildings which was held on the Bathurst weekend. This show is a treasure trove of vintage and classic cars with Ferrari being featured this year. It is always good to peruse the mega dollar classic cars and trade stands too. Hopefully they will chose a date that does not clash with Bathurst next year. www.motorclassica.com.au

I’m looking forward to visiting The Flathead Festival at Caribbean Gardens on Sunday, 23rd October. A number of other Ford car clubs will be on display and I’ll see what the prospects are for our club to display next year. Incidentally, I was fascinated to see that the Flathead V8 has the same firing order as the 2011 to 2022 Coyote V8 which is 1-5-4-8-6-37-2.

Historic Sandown makes its return on 4th to 6th November. We hope to attend as a group on Sunday 6th November.

The Geelong Revival Motoring Festival on 25th to 27th November is another tremendous event. I’m looking forward to visiting it with a view to checking it out for a possible end of year function together with a show and shine in 2023. www.geelongrevival.com.au

See you at the next event,

CLUB EVENT

PORTARLINGTON QUEENSCLIFF CRUISE

SUNDAY 11 SEPTEMBER 2022

The overcast day started apprehensively with reports of expected rain as we gathered at the well known Todd Road servo meeting point near the Westgate Bridge.

It was my first cruise in over 2 years and I was now the club’s new events organizer. This was my first event and I was viewing it with a different perspective to that of the many I had attended over the years. Will everyone turn up? Will the café and pub expect me to foot the food bill if they don’t? Would other car clubs also be meeting here and take up all the car parks?

However, people soon arrived and over get to know you coffees and checking out each others’ cars we were off to a good start with my wife Rhonda navigating with precision.

Geelong road was light on for traffic as I wistfully thought of the days when I travelled this road in my mother’s ZB Fairlane at legal speeds well over the current limit as she calmly knitted in the passenger seat. My parents were so patient and brave!

I also wondered on the contributions made by bad lane marking, poor signage and poor road maintenance to the current road toll? However, I digress.

As we passed the BP Little River Geelong servo, two members who are also experienced Supercars fans seamlessly slotted into the club’s convoy.

Ryrie Street Geelong was Sunday morning ‘alive and busy’ as we continued out along the C123 towards Portarlington. It was looking good!

The Pier Café at the Portarlington waterfront greeted us with reserved tables in the sun, bright umbrellas, good coffee, deelish egg & bacon buns and other café goodies. People were relaxing and getting to know each other and their cars.

The Port Philip Ferry from Melbourne which also calls in here managed to boost property prices 17% when this service commenced. Mental note to self, put this event on my To Do List as I have never been out on the bay in a boat. In fact I’ll even extend the trip to Cunningham Pier in Geelong.

Soon enough, it was time to saddle up for the final short run to Queenscliff.

The staff at Queenscliff Maritime Museum greeted us warmly and explained that club visits such as ours were of great benefit to their finances. www.maritimequeenscliffe.org.au

Martin gave a marvellous presentation as he guided us through their wonderful exhibits of early lifeboats with tales of their crews’ heroics. There are over 200 shipwrecks in the vicinity of Queenscliff and it is said that many households have tea pots and other crockery from those wrecks. The dangerous Port Phillip waters are also highly respected by international mariners.

As I viewed photos of the grand flotilla of paddle steamers that used to circulate the bay in the days before rail travel, I wondered which one was used by my adventurous young grandmother to visit her soldier boyfriend at Fort Queenscliff when she went AWOL from her parents in the early 1900’s.

After another photo session with our cars, it was time for a good old regional pub meal at the Queenscliff Brewhouse with its modern ambiance.

All up it was a most enjoyable day to spend with old and new club friends.

These events do much to enhance the culture of the club and provide the opportunity for club members to socialize and build friendships. These events also attract new members.

My wife, Rhonda, also enjoyed the day and is going to help me run future events. Rhonda’s had a few XR6’s and is a past member of the club.

Looking forward to seeing you at the next event,

MOTOR RACING SUMMARY AT SANDOWN SEPT 2022

SANDOWN TCR, GT, TCM AND TRANSAM RACE MEET IN SEPTEMBER

On a cold and wet Sunday morning in September I decided to go to one of my favourite local race tracks and see a different class of racing, namely the TCR (Touring Car Racing) series which comprises Hyundai i30N, AudiRS, Peugot 308, Alfa Romeo Giulietta, Honda Civic Type R and Renault Megane RS.

It was pouring rain which made the racing very entertaining and close. This category is brilliant to watch with cars you can readily buy from the showroom.

There was a number of V8 Supercar drivers present namely James Moffat in the Renault, Tony D`Alberto in the Honda and Michael Caruso in the Alfa with Jason Bargwanna`s son Ben driving a Peugot.

After the race finished the Gt`s came out with Audi R8`s v Mercedes AMG GT3`s

It was amazing to see drivers like Garth Tander, Shane Van Gisbergen and David Reynolds trying to control 600HP plus cars around a drenched Sandown raceway with Van Gisbergen breaking traction down the straight in his Mercedes at 200 plus km/hr in pouring rain and still managing to control the car into the first corner. Amazing skills in treacherous conditions.

Eventually the weather won and all cars were called back into the pits to wait until conditions were deemed safe !!.

Garth Tander and Yasser Shanin in the Audi won on the last lap when Tony Bates spun off with less than 400 metres to go at turn 11. The triple 8 Mercedes driven by Van Gisbergen and Ibrahim got swamped by the Audis on the last lap and finished 3rd . Roland Dane was seen crying in the corner of the pits !!

The next race series for the day were the Trans Ams that I have never witnessed before . These vehicles are high performance grand touring cars with a tubular chassis with a Cadillac, Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Challenger or Ford Mustang full scale replica body kit attached.

To see these big powerful cars go around a water soaked track was amazing with no race incidents.

The last race of the day was the Touring car masters which is a sentimental favourite of mine. John Bowe was competing in his 400th race but unfortunately it wasn’t to be with Johns Torana SL/R 5000 finishing 8th in the last race of the day

Steve Johnson finished 5th driving the blue Falcon XD which evokes a lot of memories for many of us.

Ryan Hansford ( Son of Gregg Hansford who tragically died in an car racing accident at Philip Island in 1995) finished first in a Holden Torana A9X.

Sitting in the grand stand out of the pouring rain watching the touring car masters I couldn’t help but reminisce about the many great car racing drivers and moments I have witnessed here as a young kid since the mid seventies watching the likes of Brock ,Moffat , Richards, Carter, Perkins, Grice, Bond right through to the Johnsons, Lowndes, Skaiffe, Ambrose, Van Gisbergens and McLaughlins.

Unfortunately Sandown car and horse racing days are numbered with the site to be turned into another housing estate like Waverley Park in the next couple of years. I’m sure a lot of us will be sad when that day finally arrives.

MOTORSPORT REPORT

SUNDAY 23RD OCTOBER 2022

Well, the FPV XR owners club race season has come to a close. What a year we have had- after COVID it all started back on the 12th of Feb 22 at Phillip Island and finished at Sandown with a double header. Over the Journey this year, we visited Winton twice and for most of us the stand out was our visit to the Bend Motor sports Park. The season has been a great success as all competitors have managed some personal best times at different tracks and importantly, we all have reached the end of the season with our cars all in one piece. Looking forward to next year where we plan to run the same series with the MSCA and Victorian Super Championship.

Victorian supersprint Championship

A big congratulation to the following club members that were awarded trophies for 2019 and or 2021.

2019 Non Logbooked 4001cc & over

1st Tim Blakeney

2021 Modified Production 0-1600cc

1st Karyn Hamer

2021 Non Logbooked 4001cc & over

1st Tim Donoghue

2021 Open 4001cc & over

Equal 1st Graeme Trembath

Since the last mag there have been four events.

Phillip Island, September 11th

This was round two of the Victorian Supersprint Champsionship and run by PIARC. Whilst it blew a gale, the rain and freezing temperature that had set in over Melbourne didn’t venture much further south. We had no rain, but it sure was windy. The lighter cars really hand to hang on for dear life when going through Turn 1, Turn 3 and up over Lukey Heights. The fastest of the day was an AMG doing a 1:46. Karyn was the only club member competing and did a 2:25 and these two cars were in the same group!

Phillip Island, September 18th

This was an MSCA round and unlike the previous weekend, two words come to mind: Wet and cold. Great weather for geese and ducks; funky trackside conditions for drivers with recoveries and red flags ahoy due to the soggy-boggy infield. We even had over a dozen interstate drivers from the Porsche club who were there the day before – why wouldn’t you make a weekend of it!. Unfortunately, the track claimed an MG at the exit of Turn 12, a notorious corner at the best of times. Regardless of car or club, we never like seeing that. The dozen or so people who helped push his car on to the trailer is a testament to the camaraderie of grassroots motorsport. Our thoughts and best wishes are with Ron for a speedy recovery. Speaking of recovery, it’s been mentioned before- these days cannot run without officials, and if you have ever wanted to get the closest humanely possible to the track, then why not consider helping out? Flaggies are always needed, and you do really get the best view. You are compensated for your time and reward with plenty of waves and thankyou’s from we competitors. Get in contact if you are keen- it doesn’t have to be every round- a day or two a year will help.

Sandown October 22nd

This was the 3rd and final round of the Victorian Super Sprint host by the WRX owners club of Vic. Competing was Tim Blakeney, Karyn Hamer and Tim Donoghue. The day greeted us with pouring rain with rivers running across the track. The track was declared wet, so no slicks and headlights required. Between Turn 1 and turn 2 there was a river, turn 3 surprised many of us with a spin- purely because it was so greasy (turn 3 is where the super 2 guys ran off and piled up at the recent Supercars event), and the last two turns (amost where we sit up on the hill and park for the historics) had floating water right at the apexs and along the ripple strips. The front straight had a river too. You wouldn’t believe it, but Jane Bunn was right- by lunch the rain had stopped and the track started to dry out and we managed to set some good times. The last runs of the days were on a dry clean track. Tim B cracked his exhaust so took that home to weld as all three of us were there the next day.

Sandown, October 23rd

This was the last event of the MSCA and club championship. The gods of rain must have gotten the picture- unlike the day before we were greeted with overcast conditions, but no rain and we had dry running all day. Unfortunately, we lost time when a competitor in front of me went into the wall at speed, up in the air and down on his roof before rolling and flipping his car. This brought home how dangerous motorsport can be even at the club level. There was a long break whilst the fence was fixed, the track was laid with soaker (this was done by competitors- the call went out and within a minute there were a dozen helpers. Again the support everyone shows one another and gets in and helps out is unbelievable). The driver who was conscious and relatively OK, was taken to hospital for precautionary checks. Thankfully, the rest of the day went without incident. On my car we tried something different - Tim Blakeney lent me a set of tyres and rims for the AU 295/40/18 for the rear and 265/40/18 for the front. This is just a “little” different to my 235/40/18 all around! The fronts fitted but there was a problem with the rears as they were rubbing going around corners and unsettling the car. So, we left the fronts on but took the rears off and put the 235/40/18 back on and even though not an ideal set up, the car felt like it was on rails all day to the point I got my fastest lap ever around Sandown - a 1:32.9!

We also welcomed back on track Jason Jory with his newly built Falcon. The car ran well until he got pinged for noise. It is common at Sandown and when there is low cloud cover, your engine/exhaust/induction noise doesn’t dissipate up into the sky, which means it registers a higher than usual reading. He tried to fix it but no avail. I can’t wait to see this back on track next year. Still waiting to hear the story on the pink engine?

From the FPV&XR owners club I would like to thank the MSCA club of Victoria for letting us compete in their fantastic well-run series. Again I would also like to thank all the volunteers from all the clubs as without them we don’t go racing.

Also, we would like to thank all the club members, partners and friends that have come out and supported us throughout the year. Club trophies for this year’s championship will be awarded at a future club meeting when we do all of the club awards. Roll on 2023!

MEMBERSHIP REPORTTHE

Hi members, It has been a full-on couple of months with Bathurst, wet weather and holidays.

But we have some new members since last magazine and I’d like to welcome to the club

Ed Brosolo - FGX XR8 in Areo

Kevin Hayes - BA/BF XR8 Ute in Venom Red

Bill Spanos - EL XR8 in Regency Red

On a lighter note: Tim & I could not make Bathurst this year but went to Tasmania instead to see family. I have to say it was a good choice as we had perfect weather. Cold but sunny every day. We made it back home to Melbourne 2 days before the Spirit of Tasmania crossings were cancelled due to the bad weather.

RECENT CHANGES TO THE CLUB PERMIT SCHEME OCTOBER 2020

The Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 2009 will be replaced by the Road Safety (Vehicles) Interim Regulations 2020, which will take effect from 4 October 2020.

The new Regulations include the following changes that apply to the Club Permit Scheme.

USE OF CLUB PERMIT VEHICLES

The vehicle operated under the Club Permit must not be used for hire or reward for the carriage of goods or freight or to provide a commercial passenger vehicle service as defined by the Commercial Passenger Vehicle Industry Act 2017.

CLUB CONDITIONS

VicRoads may, from time to time, vary or remove a condition that an approved vehicle club must comply with. Internal review rights apply.

CLUB PERMIT NUMBER PLATES

When applying for a Club Permit, the applicant will now be required to pay a fee for the issue of standard Club Permit number plates ($38 for two number plates, or $19 for one number plate).

REQUIREMENTS OF CLUB MEMBERSHIP

To be eligible for a Club Permit, the club member will no longer need to be a ‘financial’ member of an approved club; they will simply need to be a ‘member’ of an approved club.

OBLIGATIONS OF CLUB PERMIT HOLDERS

A Club Permit holder must notify VicRoads within 14 days after a change in vehicle details or modification of the Club Permit vehicle.

NEW PERMANENT OR TEMPORARY OPERATING CONDITIONS

VicRoads can now impose, vary or remove permanent or temporary operating conditions on a Club Permit if the vehicle does not meet the standards for registration. Internal review rights apply. For example, a vehicle with non-

compliant headlights may have a condition of no driving at night. The permit holder will be notified and sent a Certificate of approved operations if this occurs. A Club Permit holder must not use a Club Permit vehicle to which a temporary or permanent condition has been applied without carrying the Certificate of approved operations in the vehicle.

REASSIGNMENT OF A CLUB PERMIT

A Club Permit can be re-assigned to the surviving spouse/domestic partner when the permit holder is deceased. The surviving spouse/domestic partner of the deceased will also need to be a member of an approved club. An application must be made by the authorised representative within 90 days after becoming the authorised representative.

APPLYING FOR A CLUB PERMIT WITH THE FPV & XR OWNERS CLUB OF VICTORIA

The Club Permit scheme allows members of car clubs that are recognised by VicRoads, including the FPV & XR Owners Club of Victoria to make limited use of historic vehicles on the road network. Vehicles must be at least 25 years old to participate in the scheme.

Before you start: Visit the VicRoads website for information regarding the club permit.

https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/ registration/ limited-use-permits/clubpermit-scheme/get-a-club-permit

STEP 1:

Ensure you are a member of the club. Your expiry date is on your membership card and it is due either July or December each year.

STEP 2:

Complete the Request for Permit plates form and submit to the Permit plate team for assessment.

STEP 3:

Once your request has been accepted in writing, ensure you have the correct certificate completed. For the majority of members, this will be a roadworthy certificate (RWC). If your vehicle is modified then a Vehicle Assessment Signatory Scheme (VASS). Unsure? Your mechanic can assist, but if your car is standard, then a RWC would apply. If the mechanic providing this states you need a VASS, it is because your car is modified outside what is permitted in the Vic Roads Vehicle Standards and do not comply for an historic plate(H) and instead would require a Modified plate (M)

STEP 4:

Complete these forms

• Vehicle Eligibility and Standards Declaration for Club Permit Vehicles form [PDF 181kb]

• Club Permit Application Form [PDF 205kb]

(You can scan the QR code to take you straight to the page)

STEP 5:

Come to a club meeting with your RWC or VASS and completed forms. You need to plan thisremember your RWC is valid for only 30 days AND the club permit application must be signed and dated and received within 30 days of the declaration date on the Vehicle Eligibility and Standards Declaration for Club Permit Vehicles form. You will be asked to also sign the Club Terms and Conditions for Permit vehicles

STEP 6:

Take your RWC and Club Issued Documents to a VicRoads office to complete your Club Permit Application. ** NOTE they do not need the car to be present - just you with the correct paperwork. Pay the fees and you will be given plates over the counter to use, along with a logbook and sticker(s)

Documents that you need to submit with your application:

• Your evidence of identity for the club permit holder (previous rego renewal is fine)

• Original completed Club Permit Application form

• Original completed Vehicle Eligibility and Standards Declaration for Club Permit Vehicles form

• An original Certificate of Roadworthiness

• Payment of fees that will include the TAC, Registration fee and log book fee

• An original VASS Approval Certificate (if applicable, see above check what certificates you need)

Note: All documents must be original, certified copies or fax are not accepted.

STEP 7:

You MUST Advise the club of your new Club Permit registration number and expiry date.

To obtain a Request for Permit Plates form, or for more information, please contact email – permit@fpvxrclub.com

Please note that the club permit pre-approval and inspection process takes time and won’t be rushed just because you have two days left of your regular registration. Plan ahead!
