REPORTTHE 05 I came across the club back in 2001 when I met members at a supercar event at Philip Island. I was impressed with the display and friendliness of the members so decided to join. At the time I had a silver Au Series 1 XR8 with a full body kit and Overmanual.thelast 20 years I have had an AU XR8 then traded it in on a new blue BA XR8 manual, sold it to dairy farmer in Gippsland who still owns it to this day and bought a silver BA XR6 Turbo auto , sold that and bought Brett Wrights magnificently kept blue EL XR8 auto that was fully optioned, sold that and bought a 2015 Sept built FGX XR8, Kinetic in colour with a 6 speed manual with a factory fitted supercharger. I also recently purchased a Dash coloured (Hulk Green) 2010 F6 which is a weapon !!. Having been associated with the club for 21 years I have had a lot of memorable moments, with the many Bathurst trips organised by Rob Stent, an ex President, being some of the funniest on top of the mountain with fellow members and their friends. The many shenanigans around the campfire which I’m sworn to secrecy were always a highlight along with the long road trip up there. As a young kid I always used to go through Hello fellow club members, I would like to formally introduce myself to those of you who don’t know me; My name is Adam Archibald and I am the newly appointed President of the FPV and XR Owners Club of Victoria. Outside of the club I am the National Procurement Manager for a Multi National company with offices throughout Europe, America, South Africa, NZ and Australia. My role includes the purchasing of pasture, turf ,lucerne and cereal seed for the domestic and International markets along with managing our car fleet which consists of 35 Ford Rangers. The job involves travel within Australia and overseas when permitted. I am engaged to Amanda who accompanies me to most meetings and functions. Berwick is my place of residence which we share with 2 troublesome Labradors. My hobbies include anything to do with cars whether it be historic race meetings, supercars, club events etc, camping/caravanning and gardening.
I was the treasurer of the club back in the early 2000`s for approximately 3 years and thoroughly enjoyed my time working with passionate car enthusiasts. Having not been involved in the committee for a number of years due to extensive travelling with work I thought it was time to have another go and give back to this great club.

the Saturday Age car classifieds which used to be the place to buy cars in the 70`s and 80`s and visit car yards of a weekend and look at the classics that were up for sale.My first car was a 1982 TF Holden Gemini Panel Van. I was interested in all types of cars and was a Peter Brock fan in my early years. Our family had Holdens so I’m not sure why my allegiance changed !! :)
ADAM ARCHIBALD President

Back in 97 I had just finished my apprenticeship as a panel beater and was actually looking for a HSV (yes the opposition). I was looking for a newish reliable fast car I could be proud of and enjoy. So I then started researching ED XR8 Sprints which I fell in love with and bought. I had also moved from regional VIC to Melbourne and bought my dream car so was looking for like minded car people.

WHAT HAVE BEEN SOME MEMORABLE CLUB EVENTS FOR YOU?
This is actually my fourth time on committee!
I was the first Merchandise Officer back in 1999/2000 – when we did the original letterman style club jackets for those who remember and still have them (I have mine). Then I did a stint as Motorsport coordinator, but that was cut short due to a stint as a chassis builder/body builder/race crew with a supercar team. My third time was as Merchandise officer, a role Pete Tsalkos and I shared. I decided to be back on committee as I now have time to do so again. I enjoy seeing members happy and living the reason they joined our club.

WHAT OTHER CARS HAVE YOU OWNED AND WHAT’S BEEN YOUR FAVORITE ONE?
I tried to climb onto and ride my older brother’s bike at 2 and 1/2 so my dad decided i needed a bike for my 3rd birthday. That was it- I was off and hooked on speed and anything automotive.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO JOIN THE COMMITTEE?
THE KORY GOSS Vice President
WHAT LED YOU TO THE CLUB AND WHAT CAR DID YOU HAVE AT THE TIME?
VICE
My father was blind and as with most blind people, he just loved the feeling of speed (as a passenger of course), so fast cars and bikes were just part of life in my young years
PRESIDENT’SREPORT
WHAT’S IN THE SHED NOW?
I’ve a member since 99 (23 years) and have liked all the events- there’s been such a big variety from drives, to weekends away, car shows and can honestly say there has never been a bad one.
WHAT LED TO YOUR INTEREST IN CARS? DID YOU GROW UP IN A FORD FAMILY?

Very different locations; one suburban and the other rural. Very impressed with The Bend facilities for teams & spectators and the track is amazing, however the location is very exposed to wind (very unpleasant when combined with rain on Sunday afternoon). Also the crowd numbers at both locations appeared down on the halcyon days of the past. Greetings All, I have been a member of a few different car clubs for the past 25 years and a member of this club since 2014. I look forward to the role of Events Co-ordinator at this club. My predecessor, Emma Gwillim, has done a fantastic job for the past 2 years and has set a very high standard to follow. Emma is also providing invaluable assistance in helping me to transition to this role. Thank you very much, Emma! My family has always driven Fords in business and for personal use.

Some of my earliest memories are of making engine noises whilst jumping up and down on the front seat of a Ford Prefect panel van as I pretended to drive it in the garage. I also loved the sound of V8 trucks as they changed down for the intersection opposite the family home. Later memories are of a calypso green XA Falcon GT Hardtop in the early 70’s. That is a long way from a Ford Prefect! I look forward to hearing of your ideas for future events.

turnout of cars ranging from Alex Stent’s beautifully restored MK1 Escort to Jordan Micheal’s Dyno killer FG XR6T Ute. In total, we had 17 cars on the Dyno and another 35 or so members attending the day and feasting on the BBQ. Maxx Performance had a great display of some of their highly modified cars. It was also great to see so many members who weren’t taking part on the Dyno be part of the day by coming down just to watch and enjoy the day. We had 2 cars break the Dyno, first Jen’s Turbo and then Jordan’s Turbo both overheating the machine. Here’s an interesting fact – The difference between the Hub & Rolling Dyno was about 45kw. For example, Jen’s Turbo recently was on the hub dyno and managed 397kw, whereas the rolling dyno resulted in 353kw We decided to have a bit of fun and ran a competition where everyone was asked to guess the maximum kw on 3 cars. These were Tim’s race car, Alex’s work ute & Louis’ Super Pursuit Ute. After each car had run on the dyno, their results were record and then added up and compared against the guesses. The person closest to the total won a $50.00 SuperCheap Auto voucher which was donated by Jen and & myself. Congratulations to Keith Alexander who won with a difference of 41kw. Not bad from someone who stated they had no idea. I would like to thank Maxx Performance for hosting the day. They are an amazing team. I would also like to thank the following people as without them, the day would not have been the success as it was. Emma and Karyn for creating and administering the event on the webpage & FaceBook, Jen for all the admin during the day & Archie, Cookie and Kory for organising and cooking the BBQ. The Dyno day will become an annual event on the calendar so we look forward to seeing you all next year Winners and Trophy presentation is planned for the September meeting at the Manningham Club Finally a BIG THANK YOU to all who attended. Without your support these events would not be possible.

DYNO DAY

So many of our club’s outings are highly enjoyable and our tour of both of the above venues on the 24th July, was no different. A brilliantly sunny Sunday saw approximately thirty club members and their families share an interesting and very informative day at Moorabbin.

21 THE NAKED
After meeting for an early coffee at the Naked Racer Café, the group wandered down the road to the Moorabbin Air Museum. We were able to park in the grounds in an area set aside for the club and were privileged to have the services of our private tour guide, Fred. This man’s depth of knowledge on the history and mechanics of aviation was extensive. Fred kept some of our very keen members with him throughout the tour, while others were able to wander off and check out the exhibits. Most of the children present climbed in and out of the open cockpits and revelled in switching levers and pressing buttons. Of note: the young son of one of our family club members was so into pressing and switching whatever he could lay his hands on that we just had to ask what he was doing. His reply- I am simply looking for the problem here! To our further questioning, he replied in an exasperated tone – I cannot fly this plane until the wings are level and disappeared even further into the cockpit and we began to wonder if he would ever surface again. Perhaps another Maverick in the making?
As lunchtime approached, we slowly wound our way back to The Naked Racer to enjoy a wide variety of excellent dishes and to make conversation with both our new and our more seasoned club members. After appetites were sated, it was into the motorbike museum to meander through all of the bikes and associated paraphernalia for another few Forhours.those who were saturated with planes, bikes and merchandise, DFO was just a fifteen-minute walk away. As you know, you can never have enough shoes, dresses, coats, jeans or jumpers.

It would be remiss of us, if we did not pay tribute to the staff at both venues who were friendly and professional throughout. Our lunch venue had another motorsport group of about thirty as well as our club and every other available space, both inside and out in the sunshine was taken by people dining. The staff were extremely busy with serving food and ensuring that all requests were fulfilled where possible in the shortest amount of time. Through all of this, their smiles never faded and they remained calm and gracious throughout the entire day. Well done Naked Racer staff! You can see the tour here.

This event saw us competing in two championships. Not only was this one of our club championship rounds, but also round one of the Victorian Super Sprint championship. We all completed the first run with no incident, but not so for some of our fellow competitors who found the wall in several places. Times were slow due to the track- even though it was dry being so cold meant it was also very slippery with many competitors going off. Second run was completed, and we all improved our lap times and no incidents. The rest of the day went smoothly for all of us with both Karyn and myself completing 4 runs for the day. Tim and Josh were unable to complete the final run with a rear wheel bearing failure. The recovery crew did a fantastic job considering there were 12 recoveries for the day and really we didn’t lose much time at all. A big thanks to MSCA for another wellrun event.

Good luck to everyone.

TIM DONOGHUE Motorsport Officer

Well the winter break is over and this event sees us making the trek up the Hume Hwy to Winton raceway. Got a great pic from Karyn of boots under a tyre unfortunately they had a blow out on the way up in the Nissan. What now has become a tradition most of us travel up on Saturday afternoon, stay overnight and proceed to the track on Sunday morning. As usual we all try to get together for a meal Saturday night and enjoy each other’s company. This weekend was no exception - it was great to meet Karyn’s sister Kym and listen to all her stories about the difference in language between here and England. After a few good drinks and an awesome meal at the Northo Hotel in Benalla Vin, Kym, Karyn, Gareth, Jen and Tim retired for the night (9PM)- the last of the late Wintonpartiers. welcomed us with clear skies, 1 degree and frost on the windscreen. We all arrived at the track by 07:30 and finished setting up. Jen brought just about everything bar the kitchen sink and made herself at home after getting the race car sorted. Next to arrive was Tim and his son Josh who are sharing his beautiful Blue FG FPV F6. Last but not least Karyn, Kym and Vin turned up. Most importantly Gareth also arrived to have a look at Karyn’s car after there were problems with it starting. Took him all of 5 minutes to work out the car had a bad earth so all was fixed and we were ready to go racing.
