Hi All, As you may have read in the previous copy of the magazine, I will be retiring (not re-electing) as the President in the upcoming AGM, and looking forward to have someone new and fresh to step in (Big Shoes to Fill :) ) I have been blessed in having a wonderful Committee throughout the 5 odd years in supporting me and the club, and where needed stepped in where others may be absent or need assistance.

Just a reminder, the AGM is scheduled for July so looking forward to see all positions vacant and either re-elected and/or new members moving into those positions.

Note: All positions will be vacant, please feel free to contact anyone in the Committee if you have queries relating to any of the positions and might be keen to take on a role.

VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hi members, this is my last report before the AGM when a new committee will be elected. I am happy to continue as a committee member and a big thank you to the current committee members for all their hard work and achievements during difficult times.

Since coming out of our strict Covid restrictions the club has gone ahead in leaps and bounds with new members, plenty of events, interesting guest speakers and the usual comaraderie enjoyed at our monthly face to face meetings. As we head into winter I hope you all stay vaccinated, warm and dry despite the long record run of cold wet weather at our event team, current and new will have plenty for us to do and see.

SECRETARY REPORT

Hi all.

The weather has been cold but a great range of social activities have been organised by our Events team. Keep your eyes peeled for the event emails.

We are approaching the Annual General Meeting (AGM) due July 5th. As required by the Club’s Constitution, all positions are declared vacant. Anyone looking to contribute or get involved can contact me or any Committee member. The AGM materials will be distributed about three weeks prior to the AGM. Otherwise, Secretarial activity over the recent months has been generally quiet apart from scheduled meetings.

Correspondence received since the last Newsletter includes: Motorsport Australia: Speed Read and John Bowe’s Track Tips.

Bridgestone offers Club members a discount on tyre purchases. The process has recently changed. Members now contact Chris on 0417 394 982. Chris emails back a promotion code usable on the Bridgestone website which generates the discount. On the website you select the tyre(s), a Bridgestone store to fit the tyre(s) and pay for the tyres. Note: discount is now 15% rather than 20% and some tyres are in short supply.

CASTLEMAINE ROD SHOP CRUISE On Saturday 25 June we set off from the BP Calder park, the sun was shining and it was a chilly 6 degrees, we were full of hope it was going to remain a sunny day. After a quick detour to the town of Malmsbury, for a delicious morning tea and hot drinks at the bakery we soon realised the weather was not our friend.

With a quick decision to stick to the highway we continued along to the Castlemaine Rod Shop. We were lucky to get a behind the scenes look at the workshop and warehouse. The team took us out the back for a glimpse of some project cars they are working on.

The fabrication area was very interesting to see as they are manufacturing 9 inch floor link rear ends and Independent front suspension conversion kits. We got to have a look at bell housing adaptors for just about any make and model of car. Plenty of members were eyeing off the Boss, Barra Turbo, Cleveland & Windsor motors all just sitting on the shelf.

By far the coolest thing in the shop was the LC Torana with a Ferrari V12 engine out a 612 scaglietti. Off display for the public was Warbird and their new project car ; a XF Fairmont Ghia with a Barra Turbo conversion which looked completely factory.

Finally we got of the highway and hit the backroads in the direction of the historic town of Maldon. We had lunch at The Kangaroo Hotel where Donna the publican told us some very interesting stories about the pub and some secret tunnel’s. I won’t ruin the story because she tells it so well. Do yourself a favour and head there for a beer by the open fire and a delicious meal.

After lunch next stop was to the top of Mount Tarrengower the location of one of the oldest hill climbs in Australia. A few quick snaps and the group went into the last stop of the day Rod Hadfields Hot Rod Museum.

Rod Hadfield gave a little tour and introduction, was on hand to answer any questions from our members. Rod is a old school hot rodder who originally started the Castlemaine Rod Shop.

Some of his collection included a Model A, low rider Lincoln Towncar complete with chain steering wheel. His current project is called “walk the line”.

Another interesting thing you may not know is Rod has the largest collection in the Southern Hemisphere of root beer bottles.

ELVIS: DIRECT FROM GRACELAND TO BENDIGO Sunday morning we set out from Calder Park headed for Bendigo. Karyn had her blue suede shoes on and the sun was glorious, two signs we were going to have a fabulous day!

We cruised up the Calder Freeway to Bendigo, the regional Victorian town was bustling with people taking advantage of the weather and holidays to explore everything Elvis.

Not only was the exhibition on but many business have embraced the Elvis theme with special activists and menus around town.

We had Morning tea at the Gallery Cafe behind the Bendigo Art Gallery, nice hot coffee and a delicious treat. Highly recommend if your in the area. They even had a Elvis themed menu with a Elvis beef burger servers with peanut butter. Damon braved the Elvis donut, filled with peanut butter and jelly and topped with crispy maple bacon and banana chips.

The exhibition itself Elvis: direct from Graceland to Bendigo is a exhibition of artefacts collected by Pricilla Presley who actually opened the display in person earlier this year. Over 300 personal items belonging to the king were meticulously curated with the intention to transport you to Graceland. Running until 17 July, you simply must see it if you have the chance because this is not a tour.

As we traveled through the exhibition listening the sound track of Elvis hits. The items were chronologically displayed by the stages of his career.

Starting out at Memphis Sun records, his time in the Army and Las Vegas nights. Thirteen of Elvis’s bedazzled Vegas jumpsuits, the detail was mind blowing up close. A gold record in 1956 to celebrate the sale of $1 million worth of records was very impressive given the era. Considering his stature on the big screen he was not as large as you would have thought, his suits show his tiny waist and broad shoulders but surprisingly he has large size 11 shoes.

Amazingly his MG and Harley Davidson motorcycle were on display. His gold telephone, American Express card and even a pack of crayons from his childhood home are on loan to the gallery. Each item had a detailed history and explanation that gave you a glimpse into the private life of the King. No reproductions in sight it is hard to believe his family have kept these things for so long.

Even those who didn’t grow up in the time of Elvis can appreciate how special he was and why his legacy will live on forever.

After all our exploring our tummies we’re ready for a hearty lunch and the Rifle Brigade Hotel certainly didn’t disappoint. They set up in a private dining room upstairs overlooking the street. With a ample selection of local wines, beer and cider we were spoilt for choice. Locally sourced produce and impeccable service makes this a pub we will certainly return to.

On a personal note from me this is my last official event as the club events coordinator. Thankyou to everyone who has supported me over the last 2.5 years, I knew nothing of the car world but have had a ball planning and attending events with such a great group. Special thanks to Jen and Jack for being my offsiders, Karyn for helping me navigate the website and emails. Keith and Al need a special mention for all the recon missions I sent them on ahead of a expedition.

MOTORSPORT REPORT SUNDAY 12 JUNE 2022

After 3 years, we finally made it to The Bend. Many of us had been eagerly awaiting this with not just fingers but toes crossed to – in fact 150 super keen competitors and their crew came from Victoria, New South Wales, and South Australia.

To say The Bend is a technical track is an understatement. It is packed with squiggly bits, blind and off-camber corners and a beautiful righthand sweeper that if you get right, flows oh-so sweetly. It’s a fantastic track that reminds you about vision and looking through the corners. It’s been accurately described as a cerebral workout, and it did not disappoint.

Remembering which corner went where was truly a memory test- until you nailed those three fast flowing right handers and then it felt like you were flying.

The Bend claimed a few cars, with mechanical issues ranging from gearboxes to clutches and brakes-and even a Dorian which resembled a pancake by the time it was able to be recovered. Unfortunately, Matt Draheim and son Jamie were one of them, with the gearbox literally going bang early afternoon. That being said, they both had a ball with the sessions they did get on the track and loved every second.

The fastest time of the day was Ian Branson in his Hyper X1 with a time of 2:01:5, followed by Stuart Shirvington in his PRB Clubman (2:03:9). To give you an idea, the GT’s do 1:46’s around there and Supercars 1:50’s.

Once again Tim Blakeney was the fastest club car, but it was close. That may or may not because his engine is away getting some love and he had his old F6 engine in there…………… but let’s not let the truth stand in the way of a tight close battle on the timesheet!

Tim B’s son Josh took his RX-7 over and did 2:27’s, club friend Gareth Walker did 2:18’s in his WRX and according to natsoft Matt’s son Jamie did a tidy 2:13! That’s a good 10 seconds quicker than Dad. Again, let’s not consider that Matt jumped in another BMW and accidentally used Jamie’s Dorian…… but it’s there clear as day on the natsoft website……There’s talk of it becoming an annual event with a second day or twilight sprint that will either remain on Queen’s birthday weekend or to Cup weekend.

We will see, but any chance to drive there is one we take.

The next few rounds are: Winton, Sunday 21 August MSCA We head back to Winton after our winter break. Not only is this an MSCA round but also the first round of the Victorian Super sprint Championship – as the initial round 1 was cancelled back in April. Run just like a club day, it’s your chance to run in state level events and possibly be a state champion.

Phillip Island, Sunday September 11th.

A week before the MSCA event is Round 2 of the Victorian Supersprint Championship. Run by PIARC it gives you plenty of track time at the Island in September!

Phillip Island, Sunday 18 September MSCA We love this place- and it’s good to be heading back there.

Australian Supersprint Championship, Sydney Motorsport Park, Sunday October 16th.

This is your chance to compete in a National Championship with your club licence. The classes will be similar to the Victorian Supersprint championship, There may be a chance to also enter an event the day prior to get yourself familiar with the circuit.

MSCA Come & Try Day - Phillip Island, Saturday 3 December The Come & Try Day is aimed at novice drivers and offers a safe introduction to grassroots motorsport. The popular program includes basic circuit driving techniques, classroom and practical sessions and coaching by skilled instructors. The MSCA supports diversity and inclusion in motorsport and encourages women and juniors to enter this event. This is a great opportunity to get your support crew, friends and family members involved. The event is untimed, so no one will ever know if they are faster than you. Entries are already open, and it fills up every year fairly quickly.

IN HONOUR It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of Stephen Bryant.

Stephen was with the club for some time and enjoyed many meetings and events but sadly passed away on the 26th June after losing his battle with cancer.

Stephen always had a smile on his face and chatted with everyone at meetings and events. He had a close friendship with Keith Perkins who lived nearby and chauffeured Stephen to most meetings to enjoy a meal together before the meeting started.

Stephen and his son, Matt, were keen Ford fans owning an AU XR6, a Capri and a BF XR8. He will be missed by the club members and we offer our deepest condolences to his wife Joy, son Matt, daughter Katelin, daughter in law Crissie and son in law Michael.

As well as his passion for Ford Vehicles Stephen was also a keen supporter of the Carlton Football club and loved the Beatles music.

The members attending his funeral service were able to display their cars in Stephen’s honour as well as forming a guard of honour as he took his final journey as the hearse left the church at the end of the service.

A wonderful husband, father and friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Hi Fellow Club Members The club account balance as of 21st June is $15,765.27, in our PayPal account $0.00 and $1.00 in petty cash.

I would like to welcome all the new members that have signed up over the past couple of months, it is great to see the club membership numbers growing again. I look forward to meeting you all over the coming events or club meetings.

Please refer to the full year financial within this magazine, since the club magazine has gone electronic the club has had a good cash surplus for the year.

We will be investing in new merchandise over the coming months.

For members who prefer EFT payments, the club account name is: FPV & XR Club of Victoria BSB number: 083-121 & Account Number: 45-014-4327.

If you do pay your membership renewal via EFT, please include your name & member number & don’t forget to send an email to the treasurer & membership. If you pay for merchandise or any of the track events, please include your name & a description of what you’re paying for, i.e.: merchandise, 6 hour, deca etc.

This makes it a lot easier to reconcile the bank account. The club also accepts payment via PayPal, you can renew your membership and purchase merchandise via PayPal on the club’s website. PayPal credit card payments are also available at our club meetings and most events.

I hope to I’ll see you all at the next general meetings or upcoming events.

RECENT CHANGES TO THE CLUB PERMIT SCHEME OCTOBER 2020

The Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 2009 will be replaced by the Road Safety (Vehicles) Interim Regulations 2020, which will take effect from 4 October 2020.

The new Regulations include the following changes that apply to the Club Permit Scheme.

USE OF CLUB PERMIT VEHICLES

REQUIREMENTS OF CLUB MEMBERSHIP

The vehicle operated under the Club Permit must not be used for hire or reward for the carriage of goods or freight or to provide a commercial passenger vehicle service as defined by the Commercial Passenger Vehicle Industry Act 2017.

To be eligible for a Club Permit, the club member will no longer need to be a ‘financial’ member of an approved club; they will simply need to be a ‘member’ of an approved club.

A Club Permit holder must not use a Club Permit vehicle to which a temporary or permanent condition has been applied without carrying the Certificate of approved operations in the vehicle.

CLUB CONDITIONS VicRoads may, from time to time, vary or remove a condition that an approved vehicle club must comply with. Internal review rights apply.

A Club Permit holder must notify VicRoads within 14 days after a change in vehicle details or modification of the Club Permit vehicle.

CLUB PERMIT NUMBER PLATES

NEW PERMANENT OR TEMPORARY OPERATING CONDITIONS

When applying for a Club Permit, the applicant will now be required to pay a fee for the issue of standard Club Permit number plates ($38 for two number plates, or $19 for one number plate).

VicRoads can now impose, vary or remove permanent or temporary operating conditions on a Club Permit if the vehicle does not meet the standards for registration. Internal review rights apply. For example, a vehicle with non-

APPLYING FOR A CLUB PERMIT WITH THE FPV & XR OWNERS CLUB OF VICTORIA The Club Permit scheme allows members of car clubs that are recognised by VicRoads, including the FPV & XR Owners Club of Victoria to make limited use of historic vehicles on the road network. Vehicles must be at least 25 years old to participate in the scheme.

Before you start: Visit the VicRoads website for information regarding the club permit. https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/ registration/ limited-use-permits/clubpermit-scheme/get-a-club-permit STEP 1: Ensure you are a member of the club. Your expiry date is on your membership card and it is due either July or December each year.

STEP 2: Complete the Request for Permit plates form and submit to the Permit plate team for assessment.

STEP 3: Once your request has been accepted in writing, ensure you have the correct certificate completed. For the majority of members, this will be a roadworthy certificate (RWC).

If your vehicle is modified then a Vehicle Assessment Signatory Scheme (VASS). Unsure? Your mechanic can assist, but if your car is standard, then a RWC would apply. If the mechanic providing this states you need a VASS, it is because your car is modified outside what is permitted in the Vic Roads Vehicle Standards and do not comply for an historic plate(H) and instead would require a Modified plate (M) STEP 4:

You need to plan this remember your RWC is valid for only 30 days AND the club permit application must be signed and dated and received within 30 days of the declaration date on the Vehicle Eligibility and Standards Declaration for Club Permit Vehicles form. You will be asked to also sign the Club Terms and Conditions for Permit vehicles STEP 6: Take your RWC and Club Issued Documents to a VicRoads office to complete your Club Permit Application. ** NOTE they do not need the car to be present - just you with the correct paperwork.

Pay the fees and you will be given plates over the counter to use, along with a logbook and sticker(s) Documents that you need to submit with your application: •

Your evidence of identity for the club permit holder (previous rego renewal is fine)

Original completed Club Permit Application form

•

Original completed Vehicle Eligibility and Standards Declaration for Club Permit Vehicles form

•

An original Certificate of Roadworthiness

•

Payment of fees that will include the TAC, Registration fee and log book fee

•

An original VASS Approval Certificate (if applicable, see above check what certificates you need)

Note: All documents must be original, certified copies or fax are not accepted.

STEP 7: You MUST Advise the club of your new Club Permit registration number and expiry date.
