CALL TO CONFESSION

CONFESSING OUR SIN

Heavenly Father we confess that too often we do not treat time as a gift you have given to us. Forgive us for all the time we have wasted on things that have no eternal value. Give us the wisdom to understand what is important to you. Send your Holy Spirit to inspire, guide, and empower us to use our time for your purposes and glory. Help us to stay focused on what is fruitful. Untangle us from worldly pursuits that pull us away from what is right and just. Transform us by the renewing of our minds so that we can be witnesses for your kingdom. We pray in the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.

SILENT CONFESSION

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Leader: Friends, believe the good news!

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

AFFIRMATION AND DEDICATION

DECLARING OUR FAITH | The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, light from light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

(Adopted as part of ECO Confessional Standards 2020 at the ECO Synod Meeting on February 6, 2020 in Dallas, TX)

GLORIA PATRI

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

PRESENTING OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

(While the offering is received, please sign the friendship pad found on the end of the pews and pass it down the row, returning it to its original place. Please take time after the worship service to greet those seated near you.)

OFFERTORY | Lord, Speak to Me

DOXOLOGY | Old Hundredth

Havergal/Schumann

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host: Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

PRAYER OF DEDICATION

CHORAL WORSHIP | Give Us the Wings of Faith

Give us the wings of faith to rise within the veil, and see the saints above, How great their joys, how bright their glories be.

We ask them whence their victory came: They, with united breath, Ascribe the conquest to the lamb, their triumph to his death. They marked the footsteps that he trod, his zeal inspired their breast, And, following their incarnate God, they reached the promised rest.

SCRIPTURE READING | Jeremiah 17:19-27 (ESV)

19 Thus said the Lord to me: “Go and stand in the People’s Gate, by which the kings of Judah enter and by which they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem, 20 and say: ‘Hear the word of the Lord, you kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, who enter by these gates. 21 Thus says the Lord: Take care for the sake of your lives, and do not bear a burden on the Sabbath day or bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem. 22 And do not carry a burden out of your (service continues next page)

houses on the Sabbath or do any work, but keep the Sabbath day holy, as I commanded your fathers. 23 Yet they did not listen or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck, that they might not hear and receive instruction.

24 “‘But if you listen to me, declares the Lord, and bring in no burden by the gates of this city on the Sabbath day, but keep the Sabbath day holy and do no work on it, 25 then there shall enter by the gates of this city kings and princes who sit on the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they and their officials, the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And this city shall be inhabited forever. 26 And people shall come from the cities of Judah and the places around Jerusalem, from the land of Benjamin, from the Shephelah, from the hill country, and from the Negeb, bringing burnt offerings and sacrifices, grain offerings and frankincense, and bringing thank offerings to the house of the Lord. 27 But if you do not listen to me, to keep the Sabbath day holy, and not to bear a burden and enter by the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle a fire in its gates, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem and shall not be quenched.’”

COMMUNION MEDITATION | Stewardship in the Ordinary: Time Rev.

THE LORD’S SUPPER

WORDS OF INVITATION

The invitation to the Lord’s Supper is extended to those who trust in Jesus Christ and seek to live as His followers. Access to the table is not a right conferred upon the worthy, but a privilege given to the undeserving who come in faith, repentance and love. In preparing to receive the Sacrament, the believer is to confess sin and brokenness, to seek reconciliation with God and neighbor, and to trust in Jesus Christ for cleansing and renewal. Even one who doubts or whose trust is wavering may come to the table in order to be assured of God’s love and grace in Christ Jesus.

PRAYERS

OF CONSECRATION AND INTERCESSION

WORDS OF INSTITUTION

COMING FORWARD TO RECEIVE

It is an honor and blessing to celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper (Holy Communion) in worship today. All those who declare Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who have been baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and who follow Him as disciples are welcome to the Lord’s table. Today, at the appointed time, the ushers will direct communicants to come forward to the table. Please wait for the usher’s instruction and come to the table by the center aisle. If you are unable to come forward, communion elements will be brought to you.

At the front, please take a piece of bread and an individual cup. Return to your seat, with both the bread and the cup, by the outside aisles. Hold them until the Pastor invites the congregation to partake together. As you wait for others to be served, please use the time to pray for our neighbors and neighborhoods, our nation, our families and our church family. Remember to pray for your own growth in Jesus Christ, and lift up His name in glory.

At the end of the service, please place your empty communion cups in the pew cup holders (beside the hymnal racks).

CONCLUDING PRAYER

Dr. Joe Moore

HYMN | The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, Forever. Amen.
