Modern Apprenticeships - SVQ Carpentry and Joinery (SCQF Level 6)
Apprenticeship
The Forth Valley College Apprenticeship Officer plays a vital role in supporting MAs throughout the apprenticeship. They will meet with MAs every 13 weeks to carry out progress reviews with their employer, offer guidance and support throughout the programme and will, therefore, be the MA’s first point of contact.
All Modern Apprentices must be employed from day one of their training. Modern Apprentices are expected to receive a wage at such a level as to attract National Insurance Contributions or the National Minimum Wage where applicable. They should be registered for Tax & National Insurance.
Qualification Overview
A four-year Modern Apprenticeship qualification in Carpentry and Joinery is made up of two parts.

The first part is known as the Professional Development Award or PDA for short. It is delivered in College by a lecturer and consists of attending college for two days per week, for years one and two of the course. On completion of this part of the course, the learner will have attained a general knowledge of all aspects of carpentry and joinery. Work experience is delivered by the employer independently of the College.
SVQ (On-Site Assessment)
