ATAR OF 95.65 Distinguished Achievers List
In a world that so often critiques young people for the many perceived failings of “today’s youth”, the SCAS Class of 2015 shines as a beacon of positive energy and potential. Their multiple successes in study, leadership, sport and cultural pursuits, as well as their development as young adults make them prime candidates for success in their post-school world. As individuals and as a group this class truly represents the School’s aspiration Mr Terry Muldoon for its graduates. Principal SCAS Graduates will: • Display, by their words and actions, a positive, Christian view of the world and their place in it. • Understand that while they should be valued as an individual, their willingness to serve their community, now and in the future, will be a key to their continued growth. • Have been shaped by the ethos and actions of the school and in turn, have played a role in the evolution of the school community towards greatness. • Have been offered access to an education that not only allowed them to reach their academic potential but also provided them with the access to the knowledge and skills required to successfully enter the next phase of their lives as lifelong learners who are erudite, optimistic and disciplined. • Understand the vital nature of change in the world and are prepared to face this reality with confidence and resilience. • Be exposed to and given the opportunity to develop such 21st Century skills as agility, creativity and an ability to work collaboratively with others. • Have developed leadership skills so that by their great and small actions, they will have the potential to make the world a better place. • Stay connected with SCAS after they leave and be able to feedback to the school what they liked, what they have learnt and how we can improve.
From the Head of Secondary School The School Council, Principal and staff of St Columba Anglican School wish to acknowledge the excellent Higher School Certificate results of the Class of 2015. The students of the 2015 cohort have performed at an outstanding level and deserve warm congratulations. The class of 2015, our 9th Higher School Certificate candidature, have improved upon the proud academic tradition of the School, building on the achievements of those who came before them. The statistics for the Class of 2015 tell the story with over 53% of students’ results in the top two performance Bands. This year’s cohort achieved excellent results across a range of Higher School Certificate subjects . Mr Allan Guihot Over 15% of SCAS students appeared in the Distinguished Achievers List, a result which has seen SCAS improve its position in the top 100 Head of Secondary schools to 93rd (source SMH 16.12.15), making it the top performing regional school. Some subject results of note include: 86% of students in Design and Technology achieved Band 6 results; 67% of the Dance students achieved Band 6 results; 60% of students studying Music 1 achieved Band 6 results; 50% of the Drama students achieved Band 6 results. Four students achieved State rankings in the Top Achievers List; Riley Gaul - 9th in Business Studies; Henry Ausling - 4th in Construction; Joshua Vardanega - 2nd in Legal Studies and Rachel Worcester - 15th in Business Studies. Joshua Vardanega, the School Assessment Dux, placed in the HSC All Rounders List, achieving Band 6 results in 10 units or more. Joshua added to his Band 6 result from last year in Software Design and Development with Band 6 results in English, Legal Studies, Biology, Chemistry and Extension English. Our warm congratulations go to Joshua as he heads off to Sydney University to hopefully study a combined Law degree. The recipient of the 2015 SCAS Award (recognising excellence in a range of academic, leadership, sporting and cultural pursuits), Alex Kroon, also enjoyed academic success, achieving Band 6 results in four subjects including Chemistry, Extension 1 Mathematics, PDHPE and Physics. Alex hopes to study Engineering in 2016.
