lease introduce yourself to our readers ders and your role at Kazac Civil ... he Project My name is Peter White, and I am the Manager within the company. I have 38 years' truction experience in a supervisory capacity for civil construction works. What rewards do you gain from your work? sh to a Being able to complete a job from start to finish d to satisfactory end, often revisiting the works years llater and see it still functioning correctly. Describe a week on the job? I am an early starter and often in the head office yard collecting items required for the day's work from 5.30am, then travel to the worksite. At present we are undertaking road rehabilitation works of roads for the Greater Taree Council. This involves road closures, traffic control, excavating and the rebuilding of kerbs, driveways and roads, including services and storm water. My typical day would be to start on site with Work Health and Saftey procedures, then provide instruction to the workers, liaise with local authorities and residents, check levels, plans etc and general supervision of the works. What are some of the projects you have worked on over the years? I came to Australia in 1973 from Yorkshire in England and started off building petrol pump stations in Sydney and Canberra for a contractor to Ampol. I then progressed to building traffic lights, installing pipelines and electrical cables as a subcontractor in Sydney and regional NSW (Tamworth and Coffs Harbour included). After a time working back in the UK building sewer treatment plants, I returned to Australia with my family 20 years ago. Since then I have project managed sewer treatment plants in NSW and Queensland and was Site Manager on the building of Harrington Waters. What would you say has been your biggest achievement in the industry and why? Being Site Manager on a large scale development, the building of Harrington Waters, from the beginning to the end.

The name stems from Steve's wife Karen and Zac, which has been Steve's nickname since he was a teenager. The company started out with 2 tippers, a traxcavator and 2 employees. The type of work undertaken was mainly small excavations and landfill projects. In 2000, the company bought a local asphalting business that allowed Steve to construct a number of car parks for local schools and commercial properties (including South West Rocks Country Club car park and roadworks) for consultants in the area. This introduced opportunities to progress to larger contracts. In 2004, Steve secured a tender for a subdivision called Kingfisher Park in Port Macquarie. This was the stepping-stone that highlighted the company’s ability to complete quality works in civil construction.

From 2005 to 2008, works continued on local subdivisions such as Braeroy Estate Stages 1-7, Sovereign Hills Exhibition Village and Timbertown Estate and Kings Ridge Estate, both located in Wauchope. The company has also completed works for building companies on local projects at Dan Murphy's, Coles Supermarket and Lakewood Shopping Centre. During 2009/10, following the global financial situation and severe wet weather, the company went through some difficult times. However, through the hard work and dedication of the directors and employees, the company successfully won the opportunity to tender for works for the Greater Taree City Council in late 2011. Kazac were awarded two contracts for the road rehabilitation of Cowper and Stevenson Streets in Taree, and work was completed in mid 2012. Since then, Kazac have won and completed others projects on behalf of GTCC, such as Lobban and Murray Rd, Wingham and most recently the Pulteney St roundabout in the Taree CBD. Works continue in Port Macquarie on subdivisions at Barton Ridge Estate and Red Ochre Estate, located at The Ruins Way. The company currently employs over 20 people from the Mid North Coast and Manning regions.
