Team Design Australia is owned and operated by Ron and Robyn Lane. They are very proud to have just won a major award at the 2012 National Building Design Awards.

H

ow did Team Design Australia first begin? Ron established Team Design Aust. (T.D.A.) in Brisbane in 1988, from the former Armidale based Building Design practice of R. K. Lane & Associates (established 1979). In1993, T.D.A. re-established in Armidale. We specialise in the formulation, design, documentation, administration and project management of commercial, institutional, industrial and residential projects. Our aim is to create interesting and functional building designs that respond to the immediate physical and social context. Who works for Team Design Australia? Our current Designers are Ron Lane, Peter Holzberger and Darren Fittler. All have extensive backgrounds and experience in building and interior design, estimating, and construction

detailing. Robyn Lane keeps the business side intact and ably assists with our Interior Design works. Peter was the very first employee of Team Design back in 1988 when in Brisbane and still is very much a mainstay of the team. Darren, the youngest member, brings his fresh design and artistic talents to the business. We have also been fortunate to have many other highly experienced and talented employees over the last 10 years, including John Davidson (now with Rice Developments, Armidale), Adrian Vickery (now with LEGS, Inverell), Gary Ible (Building Designer, Armidale) and Roslyn Hanson (Engineer, Newcastle). Tell us about the state and national awards you have just won? This year’s BDA National Conference and Design Awards was held at the Australian National Maritime Museum. The design awards are where we, as Building

Ron. (Rocky) Designers, can showcase our skills in design and creativity to the nation. The awards also display the creative use of materials and the various challenges that they may present. Our recent BDA Awards include: • State and national awards winner – 9 / 2 storey townhouses, Lennox Head, North Coast, NSW. Category – medium/ high density multi residential (over 6 dwellings). • State Awards – commendation for New England Division of General Practice Office,

Ron’s biggest challenge in the execution of a complex design brief for what amounted to the creation of a residential sub-community was how best to ensure all nine townhouses optimised the lifestyle advantages of the desirable sub-tropical locality of Lennox Head.
