the arrival of spring—when the flowers bloom, the buds break on the trees and greenery once again dominates the landscape—results in an inadvertent drop of your shoulders. While winter certainly has her place, and the mountain at Stowe is one of her better proofs of concept, spring offers a renewal that’s undeniable to the body and the mind. Here at Goodspeed we embrace the signature freshness, returning to our Northeast routes with renewed promise and excitement toward gathering outdoors. In that vein, this issue features local figures who exemplify the spirit of gathering, whether it be out for a day sail on one of Nantucket Mermaid’s charter boats or over a lesser-known glass of French wine expertly explained at St. Barths’ beloved Le Papillon Ivre restaurant. Our passion for wine is further showcased as we delve into the impressive operation at Newport Vineyards, easily deemed one of this season’s must-visit locales. I am particularly excited to feature Beach Road, Martha’s Vineyard’s weekend music festival, whose lineup of musicians and devotion to sharing the show with as many as possible are more than enough to make this Nantucket girl prefer the Vineyard, at least on that weekend. We also acknowledge two important holidays with a destinationbased gift guide for the tireless honorees: Mom and Dad. This spring and summer, we look forward to a hopeful ease of COVID restrictions, a renewed sense of adventure and, most of all, the joy of being together again in our beloved summertime destinations. Wishing you an endless summer,

Virgin Gorda

With a name that translates to “Fat Virgin,” it’s hard to deny the call of Virgin Gorda, the third largest island in the British Virgin Islands and, in our opinion, the best for doing what the BVIs are all about: dining, drinking and docking. as a tourist destination in the 1960s, its backstory includes the legend that Christopher Columbus was the one who claimed back in 1493 that the island’s dramatic shape reminded him of a reclining woman. Now, though, it beckons another type of explorer: one in search of beautiful white sandy beaches, aquamarine waters and inviting marinas, where the libations and company are as salty and laidback as the seas around them. DESPITE ONLY GAINING FAME

W H E R E T O S TA Y

A major developer of the area, including the neighboring U.S. Virgin Islands, Lawrence Rockefeller was the one to develop Virgin Gorda’s first luxury property, Little Dix Bay, in 1964. The iconic palapa-covered pavilion dining area, still there today, having survived her fair share of recent hurricanes, can be spotted from the water and continues to welcome guests, now under

the Rosewood brand, which ensures top-level service— including a decadent spa and a variety of room categories. We are particular fans of the beach cottages, which also come in a two-bedroom option and are ideal for families and traveling friends. That walk right out to the sand is a true fantasy come to life! WHERE TO DINE

With no shortage of restaurants on Virgin Gorda, it is easy to fill a week’s stay bopping around the island’s local scene; however, you’d be remiss if you didn’t hop a ferry and check out the neighboring options:

CHARTER A COURSE: VIRGIN GORDA

Bitter End Yacht Club, whose pizza oven is an instant crowd pleaser, and Saba Rock, whose circular architecture, fresh sushi and homegrown cocktail list make it a signature sunset locale. Both also have rooms to stay in, just in case you miss the ferry home. If you’re up for the longer jaunt, or perhaps a daytime adventure, we suggest heading over to Scrub Island, where the marina is filled with chartered yachts and the resort’s pool slide is a beacon for the kids, while the casual grill fare at Donovan’s Reef and views of Camanoe and Tortola in the distance make for a fun, friendly meal. If you decide to stay put, we suggest CocoMaya for Asian fare and The Restaurant at Leverick Bay, whose locally grown vegetables are the first true farm-to-table venture on the island. WHAT TO DO

A sailor’s delight, it’s hard not to get on a boat while in the BVIs, and fortunately there are many private captained boats for hire which can whisk

you off to the best snorkeling spots and dockage areas for picnics. Given the area simply begs for sea exploration, you can also try your hand at kayaking, snorkeling, SUP, kite-surfing and even sailing, with local rentals and courses available through Bitter End Yacht Club and Little Dix Bay. No visit to Virgin Gorda would be complete without visiting the Baths, a seven-acre boulder graveyard with a tourist-laden, serpentine path carved between the massive rocks. The delights are found along the pathway as you happen upon secret pools, rope railings and grottoes. Don’t miss the reward at the restaurant above the Baths, aptly named Top of the Baths, where the signature Pain Killer cocktail promises to do just that. HOW TO GET THERE

Tradewind flies directly to Virgin Gorda from San Juan, offering a smooth 30-minute flight aboard the eight-seater Pilatus. FOR MORE INFORMATION

Perhaps it’s not on every oenophile’s radar yet, but Middletown, Rhode Island, is in fact home to award-winning wines. Produced by the family-run Newport Vineyards, a 100-acre farm with 50 acres dedicated to vines—or, as the vintners say, under vine—the wines are 100% estate grown. John (above left) and Paul (above right) Nunes, Newport Vineyards is the largest grower of grapes in New England and produces over 30,000 cases of estate-grown wine each year through sustainable farming methods on their historically preserved farmland. The grapes are machine-harvested, sometimes fermented with whole clusters, and then always aged in oak barrels in the winery. FOUNDED IN 1995 BY BROTHERS

Following a multimillion-dollar renovation completed in 2015, the winery has grown immensely and has since established itself as both a culinary and wine-tasting destination offering tastings and tours, as well as onsite dining via Brix Restaurant, Taproot Brewing Company—a seven-barrel brewhouse—and The Marketplace. The winery produces over 30 different

varietals including Vidal Ice Wine, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris, as well as black grapes such as Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and even a little bit of Malbec, while the Taproot Brewing Company roster includes IPAs, Pilsners and Stouts. Seasonal live music and group activities such as grape-stomping, open-fire dinners and dedicated flight tastings have made it a favorite among locals, while head winemaker George Chelf describes it as “a really cool place to hang out with loads of crazy, fun stuff being made by passionate people.” And all located just a few miles from downtown Newport—what reason is there not to go? Q&A WI T H N EW PO RT VI NE YAR DS H E AD W I NE MAKE R, 30-YE AR VE TE RAN GE O RGE CH E LF

How long have you made wine?

1988 was my first harvest at Newport Vineyards, but my interest was first piqued back in the early to mid-’80s when I was stationed in Germany and I was struck by how they trellised their vines. While there, I went to some wineries and did some tastings and really enjoyed it. Then when I came back, I was looking for a job and the vineyards were looking for an assistant winemaker. I worked under the head winemaker, a Californian, who stayed only one harvest, and then subsequently a consultant who helped me for the following two harvests.

So wait, you only had three harvests of tutelage before you took over? Would you say then that you are self-taught? Well, they say the best way to learn is by experience! Those first years our production was much smaller than it is today, at only 2,000 cases.

What are your core principles behind winemaking?

There’s no formula in making wine. The conditions dictate. That’s always what has kept me interested, even after 30 years. Every year is different. You’re not just doing the same thing every year. You evolve and you try not to get stuck in your ways. My goal, with every wine we make, is to achieve balance.

PAGE 8 | GOODSPEED MAGAZINE

For the uninitiated, what is ice wine and how does it differ with winemaking?

Ice wine is typically made from Vidal Blanc or Riesling grapes that have frozen on the vine prior to harvest. We usually pick our grapes around the second week of October, but we pick the grapes for ice wine between Thanksgiving and Christmas. By that time the grapes are mostly filled with juice that has since frozen, so the sugar content is quite high. When we pick the grapes they are pretty much marbles, so when you press them you get only a third of the juice you would get from non-frozen grapes. The pressing also takes a full 24 hours on ice wine grapes versus the usual six for regular grapes. We tend to finish the wine at around 11% alcohol, rather dry, to ensure the melon, pear and citrus fruit notes can be tasted. It’s a lot more hands-on of a wine to make, but it makes a refreshing dessert wine.

For the other varietals, how do you account for the harsh Rhode Island winters?

We don’t actually do much. We, of course, have chosen cooler climate varietals, but have not needed to do any extra practices. There’s always a bit of bud mortality, and we leave an extra vine to protect ourselves, but it’s not quite Canada.

FLIGHT PLAN

NPT

What is your feeling about blending?

I think blending is a great winemaking tool. In fact, I think red wines are best when blended between varieties. I think adding 5% Merlot to Cab Franc makes it that much better. We typically blend between barrels, too. Our popular Great White Wine is a Cayuga blend with Riesling. And I think each one of those grapes adds something to that mix. Everything is fermented separately, and then we start blending in the lab. Wine will stay in the barrel from 18 months to 2.5 years, all depending on what the fruit gave us and what we’re looking to create. Nothing is set in stone. We use mostly French oak barrels and some American oak. I like the Minnesota oak and the

Pennsylvania oak as they seem to work well with our wines. I don’t want to over-oak our wines as they’re rather delicate.

When is the best time to visit the winery?

If you want to come see the machinery and smell the juice, then it’s October and November (harvest). If you want to have a nice relaxing afternoon with the view, then truly any other time of year. Summer, though, is a bit more vibrant because there are more people around.

Quarantine Classic

Introducing Cartolina Nantucket, a new womenswear line conceived during lockdown are few, but one such—perhaps more classic blue and white than silver—comes from Nantucket boutique owner Margaret Anne Nolen. As the proprietor of 28 Centre Pointe, Nolen’s penchant for charming, preppy-accented accessories is well documented the second you enter her shop, so it’s only fitting she would seek to create something of her own. Designed by Zoë Rosenberg, whose resume includes BCBG, Marchesa and Christian Dior, the brand is inspired by travel, life’s adventures and making memories. Cartolina Nantucket is also a celebration, namely of Nolen’s mother, who instilled in her daughter the importance of exploring and collecting memories. Cartolina is the Italian word for postcard. As Nolen explains, “My mother always taught me how important it is to enjoy a place and be an active participant in creating your life’s collection of memories. SILVER LININGS TO THE PANDEMIC

For Nolen, Nantucket is such a special place. As she says, “Time slows down on the island, allowing you to spend quality time with family, making cherished memories. We are really looking forward to being back on-island this summer. And I will be wearing the Kylie and the Marin from our spring collection. Ahoy! VINTAGE NANTUCKET HAS COME ASHORE

Coming this June to The Faraway Hotel’s retail space is a pop-up of the cleverly curated collection of Southern California’s Mate Gallery. RUN BY THE DYNAMIC DUO

of New Yorker Matt Albiani and Californian Ron Brand, Mate Gallery offers an alluring combination of high-end art alongside coveted vintage decorative items and clothing plus authentic nautical curio— it’s no wonder that their shop in Montecito, California, is a beacon for all nostalgic New Englanders. Favorite items include an enviable array of vintage OP corduroy shorts, sisal rope-wrapped surfboards commissioned by a local artisan and their signature Sun Burn candle, which instantly evokes a day at the beach. Albiani, an accomplished photographer, first began collecting when he curated sales for the original version of One Kings Lane, only to realize later that a shop was really what he wanted. Both he and Brand were eager to create a space that was a tribute to New England style. They chose Montecito because, as he says, “Coastal California seemed like a place that was far enough away where this style would shine, especially for the East Coast transplants, who really could appreciate this slant on nostalgia.” As for Mate Gallery’s Nantucket iteration, Albiani describes being on Nantucket as “a dream” and says he and Ron are currently combing for “vintage Nantucket items, as we would love for the pop-up to feel like a local curiosity shop from the ’70s.” We, for one, can’t wait to travel back in time with them. Tucked in the very back of St. Barths’ iconic Creole Village lies the brightest new boutique on the island. Julien Leonard, the small fashion boutique features colorful, vintage-postcard inspired designs of St. Barths emblazoned on everything from hats to full-length pareos to men’s bathing trunks. He even has key chains and stickers for those particularly enamored with the charming designs and fonts. Having commissioned everything as a limited run, the items are indeed special, particularly in today’s retail space, where it seems increasingly difficult to find anything truly sold in only one place. An affable and warm character, Julien’s personality is akin to his cheerful designs; he happily details his creative process and upcoming collaborations, like the one between him and his friend, a designer at Hermes. The pair is currently in the process of launching a fine china line with both the palm tree and airplane designs. It’s a delight not only to don one of Julien’s cheerful designs but also to spend time in his welcoming space, chatting with the creative force himself. CONTROL TOWER | NANTUCKET MERMAIDS

A familiar name to Hinckley yacht owners on Nantucket for decades, Nantucket Mermaids was first well known as a popular yacht concierge company run by the amiable Leah Collins, a former Chief Stewardess of MegaYachts, sailing in the Mediterranean. However, few likely know of her company’s humble roots, first as a yacht cleaning business, run as a one-woman shop for four years beginning back in 2002. As she explains, “It was primarily me waking up early to clean the boats before my other jobs, and then pulling in friends when needed.” SINCE THOSE EARLY DAYS ,

the business grew exponentially to include a full fleet of mermaid and mermen handling cleaning and full concierge operations. In 2017 Collins sold those arms of the business to a colleague and turned her attention to full-day charter operations. Today, she manages an impressive fleet operating out of Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, the Cape and Palm Beach, Florida. Leah took us through her company’s remarkable evolution and shares with us the distinct joy of day chartering one of her special vessels.

Where did you first gain your experience in yachts?

I worked on private yachts in the winters, and thus Nantucket Mermaids grew easily during the summer seasons due to my extensive experience in how to protect the boat’s many expensive elements, while also understanding systems and alarms. During the few years I worked as the Director of Maritime Affairs for a company offisland, I was able to grow my knowledge even further with a better understanding of maritime law, insurance, contracts and project management.

How did you transition from concierge and cleaning services to chartering?

When the island sirens of Nantucket called me back in 2013, I launched Nantucket Mermaids Nautical Concierge, offering full management of my clients’ yachts, crew, maintenance, paperwork, etc., using my team of “mermaids/men.” Over time, I was getting more and more requests for access to these boats—I realized I was so focused on running my team that I was missing out on a big opportunity, so I took a chance and moved to focusing on cultivating my personal Day Charter fleet.

How do you define Nantucket Mermaids now?

Nantucket’s largest private yacht charter fleet, specializing in providing access to some of the most unique, privately owned

yachts, rarely found on the charter market. In a nutshell, these boats are exclusive and kept to the highest standards of cleanliness and care because they are used by the owners themselves.

How has COVID affected the business?

Just like so many other small seasonal businesses, the unknown of COVID was extremely scary. With limitations on numbers of passengers, I was unsure of the business’ capability to survive. In preparation, I contacted my restaurateur friends and started designing the concept of “Dine at Sea” to help them increase

SUMMER 2022 | PAGE 23

their takeout sales, knowing I may be limited to simply helping guests dine at home with little effort. I was lucky to be able to run the charter business while simultaneously supporting my friends’ businesses as well, which ultimately was the best outcome I could have asked for. I am humbled and grateful to have seen my business and fleet grow each year since. Private yachting was often “only for the rich and famous,” which was not far from the truth before the Day Charter market came together. I’ve chartered to sitting presidents, sports stars and some of my favorite celebrities over the years, and COVID helped open the eyes of those looking for an intimate, safe setting for their friends and families. Also the fact that Day Charters allow for guests to be a “yacht owner for the day” and enjoy some of the most memorable experiences is a huge draw. Back during my MegaYachts charter days, I used to hear guests exclaim that it was the best few days of their lives, and now I get to hear that statement from guests daily.

I used to hear guests exclaim that it was the best few days of their lives, and now I get to hear that statement from guests daily.

So you too went to Florida this year. Why?

Like most paths I have followed in business and in life, it was all signs leading to “take the leap.” One of my favorite yacht makers is Zeelander Yachts, and Nantucket Mermaids has become known as the largest fleet of Zeelanders available for charter. One of my owners mentioned operating out of Palm Beach around the same time that The White Elephant, Lola and Cisco were making moves, plus it’s a fun challenge for me to showcase my unique set of charter yachts in a very traditional and saturated market.

If you’re a newbie to yachts, how do you choose the right boat to charter?

These boats are like family both to the owners and to me—they are all uniquely chosen to be a perfect match for the right experience, guest profile and occasion. What’s the ideal cruise recommendation for Nantucket this summer?

I find the inner harbor of Nantucket to be absolute magic: the deserted beaches, untouched nature, amazing real estate and empty waters. Nantucket has gotten busy, to say the least, and tucking up into the harbor is like watching it all from afar, with nothing but the sounds of nature and the sun setting over the hustle that you know is happening on land. We also love taking people over to Martha’s Vineyard for the day, providing safe and luxurious travel between the islands and even venturing out for whale watching.

Will you be expanding further? What are your plans for 2023?

In 2023 the plan is to grow the Palm Beach/South Florida market as well as helping our clients book more charter vacations around the world. I had the opportunity to explore so many of these ports in person, and I look forward to combining that knowledge with my knowledge of the yachts and crew to create unforgettable experiences. Appropriately tucked away in Saint Jean, Le Papillon Ivre has everything a favorite hideaway should have, including a talented, passionate chef-owner who is every bit as much the reason to visit as are the cuisine and drink. Certainly others agree—she has just been awarded by the Union des Sommeliers de France. We recently spent a wonderful evening tasting through some of Julie’s treasures—both liquid and solid—coming away more enlightened on our wine journey and eager to share with you her distinct and infectious passion for le culinaire Française. Give us your Island Story and the genesis of Le Papillon.

I settled on St. Barths six and a half years ago, and I purchased the wine bar only a few days before Hurricane Irma. I am originally from Bordeaux and fell into the world of wine quite early; I maintain my passion today. My goal was to bring something different to St. Barths, whether it be the way I consider and select wines or our variety of shared dishes “a l’ardoise,” which number 30 different options per evening.

What should guests expect at Le Papillon?

Not surprisingly, wine. And not only wine, of course, but also our delicious meals made with top-quality products according to what arrives by boat and our mood and fancy. The idea behind the restaurant was to bring a little piece of France, whether through wine or gastronomy, to St. Barths. I made the bet five years ago to only offer French wine, so you’ll find Grand Crus rubbing shoulders with wine from small producers on our shelves, all of which I have carefully selected.

What should guests expect when it comes to wine at Le Papillon?

At Le Papillon we love to let people try new wines almost as if they are at a wine tasting. We prefer to ask our guests what they want to find in a glass of wine rather than losing them to the idea of certain cépages and designations. And I think this is a particular type of approach, almost didactic, allowing us to get off the beaten track more easily. We tend to adapt our offer of wine by the glass to the desires of each client and not the opposite. Wine is, above all, a matter of passion and sharing. So you’re always in for a surprise at Le Papillon!

But you do have a wine list, correct?

Yes, we have the Wine Library, with 350 French wine references, where we invite our clients to explore it and search for the bottle that will satisfy their thirst. They can choose to let themselves be guided by a member of our dream team or not. Of course, there are little notes scattered around the place to help them with their choice, and I am always there, ready for those who seek guidance, full of stories, tips and anecdotes.

What do you believe makes Le Papillon so special?

Authenticity is our motto, so I invite everyone to come, join the family at Le Papillon and discover a little piece of France, our secret place for foodies and wine lovers in the heart of St. Jean! It might appear quite original to come to a paradise island such as St. Barths and allow yourself a little escapade à la Française. I have focused my selection on really different wines as I want to create a real experience of discovery at the restaurant. Moreover, every summer, I leave St. Barths for a grand tour of France, visiting our producers, their chateaux and vineyards. It gives me a better understanding of the product, making it easier to guide our clients with their choices. Plus, we have lovely French accents, so you’re in for a laugh! THE HANGAR | BEACH ROAD WEEKEND

In the fall of 2019, the selectmen from Tisbury on Martha’s Vineyard voted unanimously to host a second Beach Road Weekend after its debut received top reviews from local residents, tourists and business owners alike. “People were calling it a love-fest,” says seasonal resident and executive producer of Beach Road Weekend Adam Epstein. what happened in March 2020, resulting in the cancellation of that year’s annual festival. In 2021 there was a more pared-down version put on in July to coincide with Tisbury’s 350th anniversary, and though it wasn’t as big as its previous incarnation, it was special. Now, this August, Beach Road is back and better than ever, with an artist lineup that is bound to draw the crowds of newcomers that Epstein hopes to encourage to discover the island. ALAS, WE ALL KNOW

Executive Producer Adam Epstein

From August 26 through 29, the three-day multi-act music festival (think: mini-Woodstock) will return to its previous location in Veterans Memorial Park in Vineyard Haven. Named after the island’s main thoroughfare that connects the three towns, Beach Road Weekend was conceived with the idea of bringing the community together. Overseen by Epstein, the CEO of Chicago-based Innovation Arts and Entertainment, whose event clients

range from celebrity chefs David Chang and the late Anthony Bourdain, to political dynamos like Hillary Clinton and best-selling author David Sedaris, Beach Road Weekend represents a live event of a magnitude never before seen on Martha’s Vineyard. Though no stranger to organizing live performances on Martha’s Vineyard— Epstein spent previous years presenting the Summer Concert Series as well as producing David Sedaris’ annual appearances since 2013—Beach Road presents a whole new host of logistical challenges. For Epstein, Beach Road is easily the largest consolidated event he’s ever produced. Yet, it is also one of the most meaningful for him and his team. “Beach Road brings our entire 18-person staff together and creates a sense of unity within our company. Everyone is eager and excited even though we never rest,” he says. Spread across two side-by-side stages, the music festival features VIP and General Admission access, plus thousands of feet of fencing, bike racks, five jumbotrons, seven generators and over 25 shuttle buses that will bring people to and from Veterans Memorial Park in Vineyard Haven. Armed with the multi-page Google Doc he and his team created, featuring the various improvement points from the previous years, Epstein is eagerly anticipating this year’s show to showcase what can be done.

SUMMER 2022 | PAGE 37

THE HANGAR | BEACH ROAD WEEKEND

Epstein notes that the extra time between 2020’s canceled show and this year’s helped him secure and resecure some major headliners, including 13-time Grammy winner Emmylou Harris and seven-time Grammy winner Beck. “I’m really proud of how we made the Beck booking happen,” says Epstein. “We’ve also done a good job of curating a festival that is Northeastcentric. We’re seeing a good spread of people coming from all over the East Coast. In fact, we’ve sold tickets to people in all 50 states and five countries.” There’s also a clear nod to the local music community (Martha’s Vineyard is hardly new to major music talents) with performances from local artists, who will play alongside Grammy winners and other fan favorites such as Wilco, Brett Dennen and Guster. “The perfect summer getaway just got even better with an incredible one-two punch of Emmylou Harris and Lucinda Williams,” says Epstein. “Add in Caamp and Guster, and this is a dream vacation for music lovers on one of the most beautiful islands in the world.” The goal of Beach Road Weekend is to ensure that as many people—both off- and on-island—that want to come, can come. Changes have been made, such as a redesigned VIP area which allows the General Audience closer access to the bands, while major effort has been employed toward creating a variety of on- and off-island hotel packages plus special ferry passes which coordinate with the festival hours to allow for daily off-island attendance. “We put a lot of work into creating all-in travel packages for our guests, so they don’t have to do the heavy lifting of putting it all together,” explains Epstein. “We negotiated heavily with the hotels to provide three-night stays that include ticket passes and shuttle buses to and from the show, as well as with Seastreak Ferry from New Bedford.” photo credit Jeremy Driesen

“ I spent many sleepless nights agonizing over whether people would sit on a blanket the first year,” explains Epstein. “Now we know they will.” As a result, they’ve omitted chairs and umbrellas.

“A lifestyle boutique for the curious minded.”

The festival’s convenient location also plays a huge role. “You get off the ferry and walk 200 yards, and you’re right at the concert site. There’s an ease to it,” says Epstein. The VIP Beach Club Package includes premium viewing as well as access to the Beach Club shaded lounge with furnishings, private air-conditioned restrooms, complimentary water and soft drinks, and exclusive food options. The General Admission Plus Package, which includes access to an exclusive area with air-conditioned restrooms, complimentary Wi-Fi and a shaded Chill Zone, is currently sold out, while a limited number of single-day passes will be available closer to the date. For Epstein, the underlying success of it all has always been the magic and beauty of Martha’s Vineyard. Though it’s often not the easiest place to get bands and their tour buses to come to, once they’re here, they’re thrilled. However, it is the favorable guest response that matters most to him. As he says, “At the end of the day, I work for them.” LEARN MORE

White sandy beaches and crystal clear water...It's time for a spot of snorkelling with tropical fish as you get into the Caribbean groove. This is what paradise is made of.

HIDDEN HAVENS

BINGHAM FALLS — STOWE, VERMONT

Authors of New England Waterfalls, Greg Parsons and Kate Watson, name Stowe’s Bingham Falls one of their personal favorites, likening it to a Caribbean island—something we can certainly appreciate! Tucked into an attractive gorge a few miles north of the center of Stowe on the West Branch of the Waterbury River, Bingham Falls is just a 0.3-mile moderate hike, accessible to almost everyone. According to Parsons and Watson, Bingham Falls’ waterfall is a secluded, geologically fascinating demonstration of nature’s beauty. The tight gorge walls cause the river water to create a deep, rumbling, thunderous sound as it flows downstream and eventually over the central 25foot falls. The tropical comparison comes from the fact that the water is a gorgeous, bright teal color. It is deep, clean and, according to the authors, “absolutely stunning. If you did not bring your swimming trunks, you will wish you had,” they note. LEARN MORE AT
