1.Those who received him and believed in his name. (1:12)
2.The world was made by his word and the things spoken by God through the prophets was totally fulfilled by Jesus - the personification of God’s word. He is the lamb slain to take away the sin of world just like the lambs slain for sin in the Old Testament. (1:1-14, 29)
3. He knew what was in people and that they would not see and understand like God. We can’t fully trust people in all areas of life. Only God can be trusted in everything. (2:24-25)
4. By God’s instruction, Moses lifted up a model snake for people to look at, be healed, and live. Jesus said he must be lifted up in the same way so people would believe in him and receive eternal life. (3:14-15)

1.The Jews trusted in their earthly heritage. Jesus always emphasized true spiritual relationship with God the Father. (8:12-41)

1.We must continue in the truth and in love. If we obey the truth and submit to the Lord as he prunes us, we will bear fruit. (15:1-12)

Many times when Jesus taught his disciples, he told them it was for their joy to be full If we learn from Jesus, and continue in the truth, we can experience fullness of joy However, if we only learn some of the truth from Jesus, we will experience incomplete joy Nehemiah 8:10 says the joy of the Lord is our strength To have full strength we need fulness of joy Therefore, if we learn all we can from Jesus we will have fulness of joy, which will give us full strength
QUESTIONS FOR DEEPER THOUGHT
1.We are Jesus’ friends if we do what he commanded. Servants don’t know their master’s business. Jesus laid down his life for us which is the ultimate love of a friend. (15:13-15)
2.They had pain for a time from grief, but when Jesus was resurrected their joy made them forget the days of pain and anguish. (16:20-22)
3.He completed everything the Father gave him to do (17:4)
