ANSWERS TO LESSON 27 OBSERVATIONS
1 Timothy
1. Command them not to teach false doctrines, myths, or endless genealogies, and love them out of a pure heart. (1:3 - 5)
2. He will be able to fight the good fight and hold onto the faith. (1:18 - 19)
3. So people can lead peaceful and quiet lives, which pleases God, and that all can hear the gospel. (2:1 - 4)
4. With quietness and modesty, lifting up holy hands without anger or arguing. (2:8 - 10)
5. If an elder were a new convert he could become conceited. Deacons who serve well gain an excellent standing and great assurance of their faith in Christ Jesus. (3:6, 13)

Consider this:
Timothy is mentioned a number of times in the New Testament and we can all relate to his challenges No doubt at times he felt he wasn't fully accepted because he was from a mixed marriage of a Jewish mother and Greek father He had a timid nature and Paul told him to fan into flame his gifts and callings Paul also told him to drink some wine for his stomach problems and illnesses We can also be very encouraged by Paul’s admonition that God has not given us a spirit of fear (timidity) but a spirit of love, power, and a sound mind (self-discipline)! (2 Timothy 1:7)
QUESTIONS FOR DEEPER THOUGHT
1. He was a blasphemer, persecutor, and violent man, but because of God’s grace, he was shown mercy and became a Christian minister. (1:12 - 16)
2. God desires all to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth through his son Jesus who gave himself as a ransom. (2:3 - 6)
3. In a predominantly patriarchal culture, Jesus and his apostles raised the role of women to a new place. Paul is admonishing Christian women not to use this newfound freedom to exalt themselves, interrupt, or usurp authority in the church. The context, as in 1 Corinthians 14, is to be humble and modest, especially in church meetings. (2:8 - 15)
4. Above reproach, respectable, self-controlled, gentle, sincere, holding to the deep truths of the faith. (3:1 - 10)
5. That Jesus came from heaven and took on the body of a man, God vindicated him, he is preached among the nations, people believe in him, and he was resurrected from the dead. (3:16)
6. Everything God created is good if it is received with thanksgiving and thus consecrated by the word of God and prayer. (4:3 - 5)
7. By watching his life and doctrine closely with perseverance. (4:16)
8. An accusation is not to be received about an elder unless it is confirmed by two or three witnesses. If it is true, they are to be rebuked publicly. (5:19 - 20)
9. A person must be proven and then the leader will not confirm a sinful person and share in their sins. (5:22)
10. Following the Lord, being content with what we have, and not striving to get rich results in great gain. (6:5 - 10)

12. Don’t strive to be rich, which is a trap. If you are rich, don’t trust in your riches but be thankful to God and share with others. (6:9 - 10, 17 - 19)

OBSERVATIONS
2 Timothy
1. Love, power, and self-discipline (sound mind). (1:7)
2. Keep the pattern of sound teaching and guard the good deposit that was entrusted to him. (1:13 - 14)
3. A good soldier endures hardship and pleases his commander, an athlete competes according to the rules, and a farmer is the first to receive a share of his crops. (2:3 - 7)
4. Correctly handling the word of truth means to remind everyone of the gospel while avoiding godless chatter, and quarrels with foolish arguments. Be kind to everyone, apt to teach, and gently instruct those who oppose you. (2:14 - 26)

7. Preach the word in season and out. Also correct, rebuke, and encourage, using patience and careful instruction. (4:2)
