FUNK

By: Deirdre Rowland They’re hot, they’re explosive, and they’re coming to Salt Spring Island…

GLOSSI (Gays and Lesbians of Salt Spring Island) welcomes Queer As Funk for a dance-fundraiser for Pride 2015, on Saturday, May 23 at Fulford Hall. This ten-piece band, comprised of an impressive number of Vancouver’s cutting edge musicians, have been touring and performing across BC to great reviews since early 2013.

What’s it like to tour with so many band members in tow? Trumpet player Alison Gorman knows first hand, “One of the wonderful things about this band is that we all think of each other as family, and we have so much fun when we’re on the road. It’s a real bonding experience.”

Lead vocalist for the gig, Jocelyn Macdougall, expects a high-energy performance on Salt Spring, “Queer As Funk will bring our own brand of danceable funk and Motown hits. Songs you know and love: Your feet will not let you sit down! We are most looking forward to seeing the very attractive people of Salt Spring Island dance the night away while we serenade you with some sweet, sweet grooves.”

Percussionist Sally Zori lived in Windsor, Ontario just across from Detroit; a place that impacted her personal playing style and is evident in the band. “We draw from so many greats, past and present. Motown and soul legends Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding are strong influences; as well as today’s artists such as Bruno Mars and Amy Winehouse keeping the vibe alive with a more contemporary spin.”

The cool thing about the band, aside from their music, is their finery. Vocalist Macdougall says it’s something that matters. “The band works hard to look great, to make our audiences feel like they’re worth dressing up for. But’s not easy to find men’s cut suits to fit female-born bodies. The name of the game is tailoring-pants, vests, blazers, dress shirts, you name it, Queer As Funk has had it tailored.”

The Queer As Funk show get underway at 8:00pm, with DJ Slade kicking off the night. The band hits the stage at 9:00pm, cash bar. Apply it fresh out of the shower because once you start to sweat it does not mask any odour. I do occasionally reapply and remember, it is not an antiperspirant but just a deodorant so don’t expect sweat protection.

As for the scent it claims “Powder Fresh” scented but smells way better. I hate baby powder scented products so I was happy that safe as some of the products you can get at the health food store since it has tricarbon and a few other chemicals, but it is better than putting aluminum on every day.

Love this and will continue to use for as long as they make it!

Art Auction:

Over 60 Pieces to be SSNAP’ed Up! Friday thru Sunday, May 15-17th Organizers of SSNAP, the Salt Spring National Art Prize, are hosting an art auction over the May long weekend. If you’re an art lover, Mahon Hall is the place to discover over 60 pieces of amazing art from local and regional artists.

Artists’ whose works will be on display include luminaries Deon Venter, Diana Dean, Ron Crawford, Michael Robb, Charles Breth, John Macdonald, Eric Klemm, Gillian McConnell, Martha Sturdy, Nicola Wheston, Wim Blom, Susan Benson, LeRoy Jensen, Stephanie Denz, Ian Thomas and Bill Brown-ridge.

A Preview Night kicks things off on Friday, May 15th from 6 pm to 11 pm. On Saturday, a Live Auction, hosted by local celebrities, provides an opportunity to bid on an eclectic mix of local art and art donated by collectors, from 6 pm to 11 pm. The Silent Auction starts Friday and continues on through Sunday by secret ballot, so bidders only know the starting bid price, but not what has been bid. That runs from noon to 5 pm.

The star attraction of the weekend, “Your Best Offer” is an opportunity to bid by secret ballot with no starting price, and an opportunity for everyone to take art home.

Weekend passes are $5, while admission is free to anyone 18 years of age and under. Tickets are at the door and guests can enter to win $1,000 in door prizes.

SSNAP sponsors have generously do-nated four door prizes valued at $250 each in merchandise. Refreshments will be available.

The auction is a fundraiser to support the SSNAP Exhibition and the Salt Spring Arts Council, and to remind everyone to enter The National Art Prize. The deadline for artist submissions is May 31st, 2015.

My Top 4 ALLERGY SOLUTIONS If I were to ask you: Where does the immune system reside in your body? How would you answer?

Maybe you pointed to your lymph glands around your chin and neck, or to your bones which produce white blood cells in your marrow. Maybe you said that the immune system is everywhere. That is true because your immune system is always on-duty, doing surveillance work.

Did anyone answer the gut? Around 70% of your immune system lives around your gut in the form of Gut-Associated Lymphatic Tissue (GALT). Therefore, when I say gut health is utterly integral to immune health, you can see why.

How do food allergies & intolerances form?

Hyper-reactive immune systems form allergies and eventually autoimmune diseases (where your body attacks itself). An allergic response to foods can arise from poor diet, digestion, crosscontamination of foods with environmental pollutants, inflammation in the gut, leaky gut, or systemic inflammation. Irritation and inflammation in the gut increases susceptibility to allergies. Whether you have signs of gut upset – such as gas, bloating, acid reflux, cramping, diarrhea or constipation – or not, you may have inflammation in your digestive tract.

There are many factors causing upset in our guts these days: 1. Poor gut flora caused by antibiotics, herbicides and pesticides on foods, GMO foods, or no fermented foods or probiotics in your diet.

2. Poor digestion caused by chronic stress, eating on the run, and irregular mealtimes.

3. Poor food choices, such as too many refined sugars and flours, food additives and preservatives, alcohol, and allergies or intolerances.

Solutions for Allergies 1. Heal Your Gut: remove food allergies and cure gut dysbiosis. Dysbiosis is an imbalance of the bacteria in our gut. How? Get enough probiotics (good bacteria) daily, stop antibiotics unless absolutely necessary, and treat small bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) or candida if present.

2. Reduce Inflammation: eat an anti-inflammatory diet, which is high in: fresh vegetables and fruit, and essential fatty acids (fish oil, hempseed oil, flaxseed oil), and low in refined sugars and flours, processed foods, and red meats.

There are many great anti-inflammatory natural remedies for the gut, but my top recommendation is quercitin. The richest foods sources of quercetin are onions, capers and apples.

3. Balance Your Immune System: These are natural remedies that modulate your immune system. My top recommendations are: probiotics, plant sterols & sterolins, larch arabinogalactan, and herbs such as astragalus and reishi mushrooms.

4. Try Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT) – SLIT is a treatment for specific food or environmental allergies done over 45 minutes in-office. The treatment has a 80% response rate based on clinical reports from over 30 years. In my experience, SLIT works best once gut healing and reducing inflammation has been done.

An Art Slide Show & Music Quiz Fundraiser for the Salt Spring Arts Council Saturday, May 30: 7:30pm (Doors: 7pm) $15 SSAC members / $20 non-members Mahon Hall, 114 Rainbow Road Best known as long-time CBC Radio host (Nightlines, RadioSonic and Pearls of Wisdom), David Wisdom pairs his passions for art and music in a lively event at Mahon Hall, Saturday May 30th. “Get the Picture, Name that Tune” is part Art Slide Show and part Music Quiz. The evening will feature bodies of work of several artists viewed in projection, and culminate in a round of skill-testing music trivia of 20th century tunes. Prizes will be awarded, including a print of David’s own work (valued at $1500), and refreshments will be available. Proceeds from the event support the work of the Salt Spring Arts Council.

Apart from his 30 year career with CBC, David Wisdom was a member of the bands French Hand Laundry, UJ3RK5 and The Young Winstons, and has written about popular music for a number of publications. He has had an exhibition of his pictures of Vancouver in the 1970s at the Teck Gallery (2009), and an exhibition currently showing at The Equinox Gallery in Vancouver. He has organized and presented a number of multi-artist slide shows at the Vancouver Art Gallery, The Simon Fraser University Gallery, the PuSh Festival and elsewhere.

Everything is broken. How does this happen? My computer’s freezing up. The washing machine tells me the water hose is blocked. It’s not. The clothes dryer belt breaks. Lawn mower won’t start. Toilet keeps running. Everything is broken.

Dog’s eye is bulging out like a golf ball - has to come out. I now have a one eyed dog. When I’m not travelling to Kelowna to visit my friend in the ICU, who went down like a sack of potatoes with a massive stroke and can’t move is right arm, right leg, or put together a cogent sentence - if I’m not visiting him, I’m at Lady Minto visiting another friend who went down like a sack of potatoes and broke various limbs. Everything is broken!

Is mercury in retrograde? Or am I in retrograde? This month I enter my troisieme quarter - the so-called third quarter of my life. Despite the obvious benefits of lovely cheques from the government, subsidized ferry rides, cheap drugs, and free chequing at our local credit union, I am looking over my shoulder. My mortality is showing.

The machine is wearing out. Two new hips, a patched up herniated abdominal wall, daily doses of prescription drugs to keep my blood running through corroded artery walls, in bed by 9:00, and my god! Spots are appearing on the backs of my hands. As Faustus found writ on his forearm . . . “Homo Fuge!”. . . “Oh man, flee!”But there is nowhere to hide.

Old age - there is nothing for it. I take a mitt full of Dr. Colgan endorsed vitamins washed down with Sam Gracci endorsed Green Superdrink bolstered with Purica endorsed “Recovery” powder, and still . . . emerging liver spots on my balding pate. I assiduously climb up Mount Erskine dragging my one eyed dog behind me, and still . . . I am wheezing like an old accordion.

My broken body may be in the sixth decade, but my eyes and brain still believe I am thirty. Last week I punched out sheet after sheet of Craig’s list offerings for Porsches, Alfa Romeros, and Jensen Interceptors. I am planning epic bicycle rides through the Lowlands of Holland. Kilimanjaro? Why not? My brain says “yes!”The mirror says otherwise.

My once charming repartees with attractive check-out girls now elicit eyeball rolls and disinterested sighs as my wrinkly hand reaches out for the change. I still scour the aisles in the “Young Men” section for skinny jeans. Am I destined to become one of those guys who has had ‘work’ done? Monkey gland injections? Nip and Tucks?

Do I go down fighting, “Rage, rage against the dying of the light,” or simply rust out? Is it going to be Keith Richards or Lloyd Robertson? What exactly does “aging gracefully” look like these days? Is sixty the new forty, or is that simply an invention of sixty year olds to deflect the grim reality? Questions, Grasshopper, questions.

Here’s to me, and all the other baby boomers against the wall without a blindfold. Happy birthday! Rage on.

BIKE to WORK WEEK

May 25 – 31 is

THE BURIED GIANT

by Kazuo Ishiguro It has been ten years since we last had a novel from Kazuo Ishiguro, and I for one have missed his unique voice. “The Remains of the Day”, which won the Man Booker Prize many years ago, is still one of my very favourites. The author, who was born in Japan but raised in England, has written seven books in total. They are all very distinctive stories, with no overtly unifying themes. While they are often set in the past, and have that in common, their history

This novel was not what I was expecting. It’s a gentle paced adventure story, that has at its very heart two characters of the most endearing kind. Axl and Beatrice have been together forever “When you read it it seems. The elderly couple live in you are left with a Britain, in the time after the feeling of this beautiful, ancient Romans, and just past when we’d sweet story” seen the last of good King Arthur.

There are a few elements of fantasy in this tale but they are subtle and not unexpected in a story set in that time. I mean, don’t we all honestly believe that if there ever were dragons, that’s the time period when they actually existed? Or is that just me?

These two feel compelled to take a journey, and although their story does take time to warm to, eventually their experiences become so engaging that you can’t wait to see where they are taking you. It’s richly layered in metaphors yet so sparsely written at the same time. The reason for their departure, the people they encounter along the way, the description of the British landscape, and the old-fashioned dialogue, all work together to paint such a lovely, elegant portrait of their relationship. When you read it you are left with a feeling of this beautiful, sweet story even though there are a few dark corners and also some parts that remain obscured to the reader until you near the very end. Axl and Beatrice live in a world that’s troubled by both ogres and the clash of war, and while that might be mistaken for a fairy tale it’s most every line that he speaks to her.

If you’ve ever thought you’d like to try biking to work, Bike to Work Week is the ideal time. It has grown from about 500 participants in 1995 to about 25,000 last year. With all these cyclists on the road at the same time, and lots of media exposure, people generally feel safer sharing the road with motor vehicles; there is strength in numbers.

Bike to Work Week is designed to involve local businesses and institutions. Will your business be one of our “heroes” and register a team (even a team of one person!) this year? Small teams will have trouble outdistancing the formidable School District “SD64 Springers” team. But teams of similar size can engage in some friendly rivalry and the names of all participants are entered into a draw for prizes provided by local businesses and individuals.

Thanks to encouragement from Dale, at Moby’s, Island Pathways members suggested the theme for this year could be “biking and beer”, proceeding from last year’s “biking and bakeries” theme. As an incentive for businesses to register teams, specials will be available to teams which arrange to use self-propelled forms of transportation (mainly cycling) to meet up at their favourite eatery at a given time. This theme has not been finalized, so there’s certainly still time for helping to develop it with your ideas and contributions.

Ruckle Heritage Farm Day Sunday May 3, 2015 Free Family Fun & Farming Education in a Heritage setting at Ruckle Provincial Park, Salt Spring Island Ruckle Heritage Farm Day is a long standing educational family day for the community and visitors alike. Scheduled for Sunday, May 3, 10:00 to 3:00, this event displays heritage farming and crafts side-by-side with nature in the beautiful Ruckle Farm’s setting. As few free family events remain, this day has proven in the past to bring out a large crowd to experience the beauty of this magnificent Park, made particularly unique & special with the ‘oldest operating family farm in BC’ tucked right into the middle. The day is geared toward children & educational farm related themes, free family fun! This event invites participation on every level, be it volunteering, attending, or taking part in the day’s many hands-on activities. Last year’s fun filled day was thanks to over 100 volunteers giving of their time.

MEL byitMelinda OVER Parks-Divers Costco Trip I despise going to Costco. It hurts my life.

It was supposed to be easy. In and out. I just needed that awesome cooler on wheels that would be perfect for the market. How hard would it be?

A friend asked if I could return a purchase made by accident on line. “Sure! Of course! I will be right there!” How hard could it be?

It made sense that I do the return and my husband go pick up the few items we were getting. So, I loaded the heavy as heck return item into my cart and off I go. Hubby disappears into the abyss of the warehouse store of gleaming new appliances, electronics and goodies.

Defeat comes next when I am informed I cannot return my friend’s item. She has to do it with her receipt or ID. I argue, “You just have to credit her credit card that she used to purchase it!”

I struggle to load it back into my van while my dog looks at me like I am a lunatic. A nice woman stops to assist. She pushes while I pull. Now, I realize I have the wallet with the precious card and cash. And hubby is somewhere in there!

I walk the aisles. I walked them again...and again. I go to the awesome cooler I covet. One is missing from the three that were there earlier when I checked that they had them. That was when we first got here about thirty-five hours ago and forgot about the item to return that was sitting in the van. It was entertainment while I waited for hubby to finish a long reunited conversion with someone from Salt Spring that had moved away.

Ok, I need a new strategy. How about I just stand at a key location and wait for him to pass by. I choose the last possible aisle before the cash out lines.

Eons pass by. I feel my hair grow. Hunger pangs as I have not eaten in like, sixtyfive hours now while trapped in this hell hole!

My head starts to pound and the lights (oh so many lights) start to hurt my eyes.

I watch a woman in stilettos walk by grasping her cart as if to keep herself up because who really can walk in 6inch heels on this slippery floor anyway?

I am peering down the aisles looking for any sign of the man. He sticks out like a bald eagle in a storm-lit sky with his white hair and height. But not here, not now.

Not ever it feels. I ponder if I dreamt him up and he really does not exist at all. Or maybe he stumbled into a black hole that obviously occupies this place. I know he must be feeling similar. Oh why did we not stick together or discuss a meeting spot?

I continue to watch hundreds of people move through the maze of bodies and aisles and samples and carts full of stuff. Then it starts. I feel it well up from my gut, I start to panic. I feel completely overwhelmed. I feel like a herded heifer nudged by passing cattle as they are led to check out.

So, I run outta there. I leave it all behind. The cart with a few groceries, the search for hubby, the dream of the perfect cooler for the market. I just need out now!

I stumble and squeeze past carts and folks and trays of disgusting prepared foods served cheap to the herds. I feel like I am among pigs pushing their way to the feeding trough, not really happy, but happy to be fed.

The tears are burning in my eyes as I feel like I am freaking out. I am claustrophobic and in this giant building, The walls are closing in on me and I feel like I am being crushed.

I burst out the door past the lineup of folks having their receipts checked. Into the fresh air, across the parking lot, and into the safety of my van I go. Here I sit and reflect on how this store makes me feel, and I decide it is not worth it. I don’t think I can return. I am so grateful I live on this lovely, rural island void of big box stores.

I make a point of having a time once a week with just our eldest and I, but even that doesn’t seem to be helping! signed, Struggling Mama Dear Sibling Struggles, I love that you are creating time for Mama Dates! That is something I recommend for all families, and for both parents to take individual time with each child, even in single-child families.

In our fast-paced society taking special time out to just BE with a child is huge! And, I would hasten to say it is helping, even though challenges between the children are still evident.

It is easy to automatically disregard our children’s less-thandesirable feelings for a new sibling, without being aware we are even doing it. Saying things like “Of course you don’t hate your brother!” sounds logical, but can actually have a negative impact, causing upsetting feelings to build up inside. Feelings sibling, - either physically or verbally – resist the urge to give the “aggressor” attention. Focus on the “injured party,” not with pity, but simply by giving information without blaming; “It can hurt to be poked. At the same time, it is integrally important to allow for the feelings to be expressed - though not through physical or namecalling hurtful ways. When one pokes or pushes, say, “People are not for hurting. Tell me with words how you are feeling. Say, ‘I feel so annoyed always having a little brother around!” Then acknowledge “Wow. That is a big feeling!”

Encourage young children to draw pictures of their feelings– even their pictures. Write their words out for them, showing they’ve really been heard.

SEA CAPERS BUILD A BOAT Sign up now!

Calling all contractors, handy-women (and men), community groups and teams of any sort to participate in the Build-a-Boat competition during this years SeaCapers event, Saturday June 13. The object of the Build-a-Boat Contest is for individuals or teams to attempt to build a seaworthy craft within a two-hour time limit, using only hand or battery-powered tools and the materials provided.

The boat must then successfully navigate a course laid out in Ganges Harbour.

Junior entries may be asked to complete a shorter course.

All participants will receive identical “surprise” packages of building materials from Windsor Plywood. The packages will be available on site at the start of the contest.

Teams may trade their materials with other teams, but no extra supplies may be used. At 10:30 a.m. the building starts with the unwrapping of the packages. All teams must stop building at 1:30 p.m. All contestants should then carry their craft to the launch area, assemble at the start line, and at the signal begin the race. The race will start at 2:00 p.m. Details of launch site and the racecourse will be given on the day of the event. Entry classes: Adult and junior. Adult Class: Over 18, mixed age teams are also welcome. Junior Class: Teams 18 and under. Parents may advise but not actively assist in building! Awards & Ribbons will be given in the following categories in both adult and junior classes: * First and second “craft” to finish the course * Best design and construction.

Awards will be presented at the bandstand after the completion of the race.

Registration fee: $10.00 Adult. Under 18 entries are free.

Registration forms are available at Island Escapades and Windsor Plywood. Registration must be complete and dropped off to the above locations by Friday June 5th.

Fixing A Problem You may not know this, but Salt Spring has a stray cat problem on its hands. It would be easy to think your neck of the woods was the only one where the howls and shrieks of a few community cats wake daybreak. Nope. Cats are everywhere.

More everywhere than the deer.

Most of the cats that come into shelter care at the Salt Spring SPCA are strays, meaning they are apparently ownerless, vagabonds, wandering around unchecked. Over ninety-percent of the intake cats lack any coming into our care are apparently ownerless, homeless, and one way or another, contributing to the island’s cat overpopulation.

People are surprised to learn the SPCA estimate of 1,600 freeroaming stray cats on our island includes both owned and unowned felines. The “catitudes” of these kitties range from unsocial, unseen feral cats to outgoing, almost too friendly, purr-machines who come in through the cat door and never “the SPCA estimate of leave. Saltspringers are kind to strays: they often will call us or 1,600 free-roaming stray cats on our island” post online those cats who are apparently lost, abandoned, and hungry. Some eventually come into the shelter, most have no matted, and full of parasites. A few are close to death.

The message to sterilize cats before sexual maturity (by six months old) has not reached any saturation on Salt Spring. Up until last year, there were no resources available to help island residents access affordable spay and neuter services. Now, Saltspringers can show up at the SPCA, purchase a SNIP voucher for each of their kitties, make an appointment with a clinic, and

It’s a personal goal this year to exploit every opportunity to talk up our SPCA SNIP voucher and get more cats spayed/neutered and given ID. Help me spread the word and tell every kitten-toting Saltspringer that they can do something generous and kind for their pet, and get it SNIPped before six months of age. Speaking of helping the community, our SPCA Doggie Daycare gets going at Saturday Markets in Centennial Park on May 16th. We offer one-on-one dog sitting service for $10/hour fee a volunteer-powered service and is successful with every set of hands we recruit. To volunteer, you are older than 16 and will sign-up online at www.spca.bc.ca/volunteer. In three years, we’ve 60 volunteers a chance to show their kindness to animals.

Many people consider material wealth as the most accurate indicator of a successful person. Maybe we should examine this very narrow concept of success. Instead of placing so much importance on one aspect of your life, let’s assume a broader vision of success...i.e. “a successful life”. If you assume a broader vision of being successful, what areas of life would matter most? What aspects would need to be included for you to feel like a totally successful person?

Would taking care of your health, nurturing your relationships, enjoying your work, taking care of your children, enjoying your accomplishments, appreciating your ability to take everyday in stride, appreciating your ability to make enough money for your needs; all be part of that vision? What areas of your life would you work on more and what areas would you ease up on? People who have a tendency to being ‘driven’ or compulsive, such as workaholics, might be neglecting. A very driven business person may be looked upon as highly successful by his/her colleagues but how does their family feel? There has to be balance. We can only ‘try’ to keep our lives in balance but we are only human after all! We shouldn’t feel bad if we have fallen short here and there. underlying feeling of failure, when in fact you may have had many successes that just weren’t acknowledged. Let’s get clear, so we don’t spend any precious time chasing an unrealistic “pot of gold” at the end of the rainbow. Another aspect to examine is; what, or who, drives your need to be successful? Is it coming from a sincere inner from your parents or your spouses expectations propelling you into a job, achievement or life style you don’t want. What do you want?

Allow yourself the right to change your mind. Your goals and your ideas of success need to be examined as you move through different phases of your life. When you were younger these ideals were likely very different from what you feel now.

We’ve all been successful in our life, but we may not realize it because we haven’t acknowledged the less obvious aspects of success. It’s time to acknowledge and feel good about our big, and little, successes! Yes, we will have many ups and downs in our lives, but that in itself can be considered a success. The ability to get up, dust yourself off and keep going. The success of giving it your best!

Many people view gender and sex as synonymous. Is sex determined by our genitalia? What about gender for that matter? The truth is that gender and sex are no more similar than the sun and moon. Sex is something we are assigned at birth and is based on a physical evaluation that at first glance can be hard to read and often mistaken. We establish our identity as we age which is hugely impacted by gender and thus how we interact in society which is full of oppressive gender roles. It is important to keep in mind the spectrum of gender identities not simply the male/female binary our society presents. There can be added intensity and confusion faced by an individual who may be questioning their gender identity later in life after spending years trying to live up to societal expectations. Gender identities can change at any time throughout a lifetime and for some people this can happen more than once.

Barriers slowly are being removed for those who wish to change their gender marker on important identification and legal documents with some provinces in Canada, such as Ontario and British Columbia, no longer requiring invasive gender reassignment surgery or burdensome court orders to approve the legal change from ‘Gender: M’ to ‘Gender: F’ and vice versa.

In an attempt to defeat hegemony over individual identities, countries globally (ones that North American media tend to portray as not so progressive) are adding a third sex, often seen as ‘X’, on legal documents. These countries include: Australia, Germany, India, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Thailand.

According to the National Transgender Discrimination Survey only one-fifth (21%) of transgender people in the United States who have transitioned have been able to update their IDs with their preferred gender and one-third (33%) have not been able to update their IDs at all. The dangers and implications of such shocking statistics include discrimination based harassment, violence, denial of employment, housing, and public benefits.

“If you’re going to use a document for identification purposes, and it has a photograph on it, a gender marker adds nothing,” said Barbra Findlay in an interview with CBC news back in 2014. Barbra Findlay is a self-identified queer feminist lawyer from Vancouver with a special interest in helping people with LGBTQ related legal issues. Findlay is challenging the government of British Columbia, asking them to remove M and F from passports arguing that photos and other biometric security features offer more than gender markers which cause harm and discrimination in many cases. Unfortunately this change could be a ways off considering that gender markers on legal documents are required internationally.

Can federal governments not see these shocking statistics as proof that laws must change or do the ever increasing rates of trans* related hate crimes, murders, and suicides have to reach genocidal heights for due attention to be paid?
