True influence isn’t about the loudest voice or the largest following. It’s about impact, intention, and authenticity. It’s about knowing who you are, and using that awareness to build something meaningful, whether that’s a business, a brand, or a community.
In these pages, you’ll meet women who are doing exactly that. From designers breathing new life into ancient crafts, to digital creators challenging beauty stereotypes, to wellness entrepreneurs turning rituals into purpose-driven movements, each story reflects a unique facet of modern power. What unites them all is the belief that self-expression is not superficial, it’s powerful. When done with purpose, beauty becomes advocacy. Fashion becomes identity. Wellness becomes resistance.
These women are not asking for permission to lead. They’re doing it, with quiet confidence or bold reinvention, and often both. Their journeys remind us that success isn’t always polished—it’s personal. And influence isn’t a role you’re given, it’s something you claim.
We hope this issue doesn’t just inspire you, it nudges you. To reflect. To celebrate your voice. And to honour the kind of influence that starts within and ripples outward.
Here’s to doing good, feeling good, and looking good—on our own terms.

Looking flawless is no longer a luxury reserved for a privileged few. Over the past decade, India’s beauty and wellness industry has grown into one of the country’s most dynamic economic powerhouses creating millions of jobs, spawning homegrown brands, and reshaping how we think about self-care.
Fuelled by rising consumerism, lifestyle shifts, and a boom in both local startups and global giants, this space is thriving from skincare and fitness to Ayurveda-inspired wellness products. With celebrities like Katrina Kaif (Kay Beauty), Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Anomaly), Sunny Leone (StarStruck), and Shilpa Shetty (Love Organically) launching their own labels, the influence is undeniable.
But what makes this moment exciting is its inclusivity. Grooming and self-care are no longer seen as feminine indulgences; they’re cultural essentials Men’s beauty brands are gaining traction, and self-expression through style has become a mainstream mindset
India’s beauty and wellness sector is projected to reach $30 billion by 2030 The broader wellness economy, which includes fitness, skincare, mental wellness, and nutrition, is already worth ₹4.2 trillion and growing at 12% annually.
2 The D2C Boom
Direct-to-consumer brands are thriving online. Founders like Malika Sadani (The Moms Co ) are tapping into digital communities to build trust and skip traditional retail.
Once limited to urban elites, this market is now thriving in Tier II and III cities, thanks to ecommerce, influencer marketing, and penetration
Consumers are embracing everything from natural skincare and DIY spa rituals to mental health apps and yoga challengesWhat used to be occasional salon visits is now a part of everyday routines. The shift has been driven by three big forces: global exposure, social media influence, and a growing prioritization of mental and physical well-being
1. Clean & Conscious Beauty Transparency is no longer optional Brands like Earth Rhythm, Juicy Chemistry, and Ruby’s Organics are leading the way with ingredient honesty, ecopackaging, and cruelty-free practices
3. Ayurveda Meets Science
Ayurvedic ingredients are seeing a modern revival Brands like Kama Ayurveda, Forest Essentials, and Ranavat offer ancient wisdom with lab-backed results.
4. Beauty Meets Tech
Ayurvedic ingredients are seeing a modern revival Brands like Kama Ayurveda, Forest Essentials, and Ranavat offer ancient wisdom with lab-backed results
5 Wellness as a Lifestyle
Mindful beauty, meditation apps, gut health, and holistic skincare are shaping a new category where self-care = daily care Apps like Wysa, InnerHour, and Sadhguru’s app are redefining how India does wellness.
6. Men’s & Gender-Neutral Beauty
Men are embracing skincare like never before Campaigns by The Man Company and influencers like Ankush Bahuguna are redefining masculinity in beauty.
Women-led brands are not only thriving they're leading the shift in values, innovation, and consumer loyalty A few standout names:
Kay Beauty by Katrina Kaif – high-performance, inclusive beauty
Just Herbs, led by Megha Chopra – clean Ayurveda with a modern lens
The Moms Co by Malika Sadani – toxin-free care for mothers
Inde Wild by Diipa Büller-Khosla – Ayurvedistry™ for global wellness
Earth Rhythm by Harini Sivakumar – science-backed sustainable skincare
TANVI Herbals – grassroots herbal care scaling to urban markets
Nykaa, founded by Falguni Nayar – India’s most iconic beauty IPO
These founders use personal stories, feedback loops, and social media as powerful tools to build trust and redefine beauty narratives
From solo nutritionists launching guthealth teas to makeup artists building Instagram empires, a new generation of micro-entrepreneurs is reshaping the beauty space.
Whether it’s a yoga instructor going viral on Reels or a nail tech running an appointment-only studio via Instagram DMs, personal brands are gaining trust and income without traditional infrastructure
Despite the growth, challenges persist Women-led startups often face funding bias, supply chain hurdles, and certification roadblocks Competing with global beauty giants remains a steep climb.
But the outlook is bright With Startup India support, beauty accelerators, and increasing investor interest, the ecosystem is slowly leveling up What’s emerging is a wave of “beauty with purpose” where impact, sustainability, and empowerment are part of the brand DNA
The business of beauty and wellness in India is far more than skin deep It’s about rewriting narratives around selfworth, wellness, identity, and leadership. With each balm, serum, yoga session, or affirmation app, women entrepreneurs aren’t just building brands they’re building movements
And while trends may change, the impact these women are making is built to last From village-rooted herbalists to Ivy League-backed founders, they are redefining what beauty means in a modern, inclusive India They’re not selling perfection they’re championing confidence, care, and conscious choices. The beauty they stand for isn't filtered it's felt
This wave isn’t a moment; it’s a momentum. And it’s only just begun
“When women build beauty brands, they’re not just selling glow they’re sharing stories, solving problems, and sparking change.”
Beauty scene of India just got a global shake-up.
On August 7, 2025, Rihanna’s iconic brands Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin officially made their debut in the country through a strategic collaboration with Reliance Retail’s platforms — Sephora and Tira.
The launch marks a major milestone for India’s premium beauty market, with the products now available online and in over 50 stores across 16 cities. Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd will spearhead the rollout, further strengthening its growing luxury beauty portfolio. Singapore-based Luxasia will manage the distribution of both brands in India, ensuring a seamless entry into the market.
Launched in 2017, Fenty Beauty disrupted the makeup industry with its unprecedented range of inclusive foundation shades, setting a new global benchmark for diversity in beauty. In 2020, Rihanna expanded into skincare with Fenty Skin, a clean, vegan line that blends performance with simplicity.
"We are thrilled to bring Fenty Beauty’s iconic and inclusive range through Reliance Retail’s omnichannel presence with Tira and Sephora. This launch underscores our commitment to making the world’s best global brands available to Indian consumers –both online and offline," said Isha Ambani, Director of Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd. She added that Fenty’s ethos of diversity and self-expression aligns perfectly with the company’s vision to redefine India’s beauty experience.
Fenty’s arrival is more than just another international label entering the market — it’s a signal that India is ready for brands that speak to all skin tones, all identities, and all expressions. With this launch, Indian beauty lovers gain direct access to products that have transformed the global beauty landscape. But more than that, it puts pressure on local and global players to level up on representation, formulation, and storytelling. Consumers today demand more than pigment; they want purpose. Fenty’s presence reinforces that beauty is personal, political, and powerfully inclusive and India is more than ready to embrace that kind of bold beauty. It also opens the door for more homegrown brands to rise to the occasion— rethinking what it means to be inclusive in a country with incredible diversity. From Northeast to Kerala, from Gen Z to Gen X, Fenty’s debut speaks to everyone—and challenges everyone else to keep up.
Guillaume Motte, Global President and CEO of Sephora, echoed the excitement: "As champions of their revolutionary approach since 2017, this launch embodies our commitment to an inclusive beauty experience where everyone can explore and embrace their unique selves. Partnering with Reliance Retail, we’re confident Fenty Beauty will ignite a new era of beauty exploration for Indian consumers."
Online sales in beauty and personal care have shown a steady upward climb since 2018, when revenues stood at USD 115 23 billion By 2019, the figure had risen to USD 132 6 billion, and in 2020 touched USD 166 06 billion Despite a slight dip in 2022 to USD 196.56 billion after peaking at USD 201.66 billion in 2021, the market quickly recovered, reaching USD 227.26 billion in 2024. The momentum is expected to continue with estimates of USD 257.54 billion in 2025, followed by USD 327.22 billion in 2028, before touching USD 338.93 billion in 2029.
The beauty and personal care e-commerce market is headed for remarkable expansion, with projections placing it at nearly USD 339 billion by 2029. A new report by Digital & Trends shows the sector is set to surge almost 50% from 2024 levels, cementing its position as one of the fastest-growing consumer industries worldwide.
18// Womenpreneur India
Personal care continues to dominate as the largest contributor to this growth, followed by cosmetics, skincare, fragrances, and the rapidly emerging beauty tech segment the smallest category but the fastest expanding Global traffic patterns in 2024 show developed markets at the forefront of online beauty and personal care The United States leads with a 20 1% share, followed by Japan at 14 3%, Brazil at 5 2%, and Russia at 5 1% Other significant contributors include the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, France, Canada, and India
India, while holding a more modest 3 6% share, is showing promising momentum with 2 7% year-on-year growth This signals an accelerating adoption of e-commerce beauty platforms in the country, highlighting growing digital comfort and an appetite for global beauty trends among Indian consumers.
The report attributes this steady rise to increasing digital adoption, broader product variety, and enhanced access to platforms. As consumers continue to pivot toward online channels, the beauty and personal care industry is set to sustain its strong growth trajectory well into the next decade.

September 2025
India is fast becoming the fashion world’s most sought-after frontier. Global luxury giants — from LVMH and Kering to Estée Lauder and Shiseido — are setting their sights on the country’s rising consumer base, positioning India as the “last bastion” of growth in a slowing global market.
Currently, luxury beauty and fashion together account for only a small slice of India’s $21 billion beauty and personal care market — around 4%, compared to nearly 24% in Southeast Asia and up to 50% in developed markets. But that gap is exactly what has global firms rushing in. With rising disposable incomes, a growing middle class, and an increasingly digital-first audience, the appetite for aspirational fashion and beauty is at an all-time high.
Retailers like Nykaa, Tata Cliq Luxury, and Reliance’s Tira are strengthening the pipeline by introducing global brands to younger Indian consumers who are eager to experiment with identity and style. Fashion isn’t just about garments anymore — it’s about lifestyle, status, and self-expression.
The effect is cultural as well as commercial. From Dior’s pre-fall show in Mumbai to Gucci’s immersive pop-ups in Delhi, India is emerging as a stage where luxury brands are tailoring experiences specifically for the local market. With projections of the luxury fashion segment quintupling by 2035, global houses see India as not just a new market — but the market of the future.

How Women Are Rewriting Office Fashion
The office dress code used to be simple: muted tones, stiff collars, heels that hurt, and silhouettes designed to blend in not stand out. But as women continue to redefine what leadership, ambition, and professionalism look like, they’re rewriting the rules of workwear too Enter soft power dressing a style evolution that’s less about asserting authority through conformity, and more about expressing it through authenticity, comfort, and confidence
The rise of sneaker culture has found its way to office floors, and women are leading the charge Once deemed too casual, clean sneakers paired with structured outfits now represent a deliberate style choice comfort without compromise Whether it’s a startup founder walking into a pitch or a lawyer heading to court prep, there’s a new energy in footwear: one that says I can run the show, and run around in it too
Soft power dressing is changing the face of office fashion one breezy blazer, bold colour, and sneaker-clad stride at a time Today’s working women are ditching stiff formality for style that feels authentic, comfortable, and confident This isn’t about dressing down it’s about dressing true. Here’s how women are reshaping workplace wardrobes, and making power look effortless
wwwwomenpreneurindiacom
Once a symbol of “fitting in” to a man’s world, the power suit has undergone a major transformation
Today’s women aren’t trying to replicate masculine authority they’re redefining what leadership looks like Think oversized blazers paired with satin trousers, coordinated sets in pastel tones, or even suits layered over sports bras Structure remains, but the rigidity is gone. Power is still present it’s just softer, more fluid, and more personal
Natural fabrics like linen, cotton, and khadi are showing up in meeting rooms across the country No longer confined to weekend wear or vacation wardrobes, these materials are a quiet rebellion against sweat-trapping synthetics and rigid dress codes
Women are choosing fabrics that breathe, flow, and feel good because why shouldn’t comfort be part of confidence?
Goodbye to navy blue fatigue Today’s workplace wardrobes are embracing sage greens, dusty rose, burnt orange, ivory, and even marigold These aren’t just aesthetic preferences they reflect a deeper shift in how women show up Colour is now a communication tool: bold but approachable, stylish but grounded. Power no longer hides in neutral tones it pops in personality
As workplaces go hybrid, so does fashion Women are ditching uncomfortable formality for adaptive style one that reflects the multiple roles they juggle From boardrooms to co-working cafés to Zoom calls at home, soft power dressing is here to stay It’s not about dressing down or up It’s about dressing true
5. 6. 8. 7.
What once felt too “casual” for office dressing is now being elevated by thoughtful pairing A simple white tee under a silk blazer A sari worn with sneakers A kurta styled like a trench coat This hybrid approach is fast becoming a signature for modern working women blurring the lines between home, hustle, and high fashion. The result? Unforced elegance that still gets the job done
The biggest shift in office fashion isn’t in fabrics or cuts it’s in attitude Today’s women aren’t dressing for validation They’re dressing for themselves Fashion is no longer about blending in to be taken seriously It’s about being fully seen on your own terms. What you wear to work is now an extension of who you are, not who you're trying to become
Statement jewellery has emerged as a new form of expression in office fashion Chunky rings, layered chains, meaningful pendants even nose rings are worn with purpose These aren’t just accessories; they’re identity markers Whether it’s a gemstone passed down from a grandmother or a silver cuff from a women-led brand, these pieces carry stories, strength, and individuality.

By Shweta Tanwar Mukherjee
For as long as I can remember, I carried a harsh inner voice. No matter what I achieved, it whispered: “Not enough. You should be doing better.”
I wore success on the outside, but inside, I felt drained, anxious, and disconnected. I thought selfcriticism would push me to grow. Instead, it left me exhausted. The surprising truth
I’ve learned? Healing didn’t come from working harder on myself. It came from being kinder to myself.
One evening, in the middle of yet another spiral of negative thoughts, I decided to try something simple: writing to myself as if I were a friend.
I opened a notebook and wrote three short entries:
One way I showed up today — even if it was something small, like making a healthy meal or taking a walk.
One thing I forgive myself for — whether it was procrastinating, snapping at someone, or just feeling low.
One kind wish for myself— words I would gladly give to a loved one, but rarely to myself.
It felt uncomfortable at first. My inner critic resisted. But night after night, the practice softened me.
The Subtle Shifts:
Over weeks and months, I began noticing changes: My anxiety levels dropped.
I no longer replayed every mistake on repeat in my mind.
I celebrated small wins instead of brushing them aside.
My body felt lighter. My sleep, deeper. Most importantly, I began to recognize that I was worthy of my own compassion.
The Real Lesson
I used to believe growth came from pushing, striving, and toughening up. What I know now is that true healing comes from gentleness. Self-compassion journaling didn’t erase my challenges—but it gave me a new way to meet them: with patience, softness, and love.
If you’ve been hard on yourself for years, I want you to know:
You don’t have to fight harder. You don’t have to be perfect. Sometimes, the smallest act of kindness toward yourself becomes the most powerful medicine.
Your turn: Tonight, write one thing you forgive yourself for and one kind wish for yourself. Try it for a week and see what shifts.
ByAnoushka Parikh, Luxury Retail & Sales Consultant, Fashion Stylist
n any given Saturday, my till receipts tell the same story my fitting rooms do: Europe’s handbag mood has been big, soft-spoken, and practical. Over the last two years, I’ve watched young professionals from Paris to Warsaw reach for quiet, structured carryalls that slip under a trench coat and hold a 13-inch laptop without announcing themselves.
Meanwhile, my Indian customers—whether studying in the UK or visiting on work trips—toggle effortlessly between statement color, artisanal detail, and ceremony-friendly silhouettes. The result is a fascinating twoway exchange: Europe is borrowing India’s craft confidence, and India is adopting Europe’s function-first minimalism.
In Europe, handbags that dominate wardrobes balance understatement with utility. Goyard continues to embody heritage, with its herringbone canvas—particularly in the St. Louis tote—becoming a symbol of connoisseurship, prized for its ability to flatten neatly into a carry-on or endure a daily commute. You can spot a cool, rich girl from afar when she carries one. Polène Paris has surged as the emblem of sculptural minimalism; its Numéro Un and Numéro Dix, crafted in supple leather, resonate with those who want elegance that slips into professional wardrobes without pretension. JW PEI appeals to a younger clientele with its vegan materials and experimental silhouettes, while the suede touch in its designs transcends trends, embodying style and taste. Longchamp’s Le Pliage remains the continent’s ultimate uniform bag—a feather-light, foldable workbag appropriate for both boardrooms and train rides across Europe. London, in particular, has an obsession with this brand: a Pilates-going London girlie with a classic blue tote with tan handles is an unmistakable sight, a subtle way to fit in when new to the city. The overall palette leans towards muted shades of stone, olive, taupe, and chocolate, while materials such as pebbled calf, soft nappa, and coated canvas are chosen as much for durability as for aesthetic appeal.
Over the past two years, fashion analytics data shows that Goyard and Longchamp have seen a 15% and 12% increase in European sales, respectively, highlighting the growing appetite for versatile luxury.
Polène Paris, with its minimalist appeal, has experienced a 22% surge in demand, especially among professional women aged 25–35, while JW PEI continues to thrive in the vegan and ethical fashion segment, growing 30% year-on-year. As Europe’s streets showcase these bags in quiet, understated style, one can’t help but imagine the journey each bag undertakes—tucked under a commuter’s arm on a rainy Paris morning, swinging from a city girl’s shoulder as she navigates the Tube, or resting effortlessly on a café chair as Londoners sip espresso. These are not just accessories, but companions to the lives they touch, bridging practicality and sophistication, quietly narrating the stories of those who carry them.
Platforms like Pinterest and Instagram mediate this crosscultural conversation. Young women in London Walk into boutiques with saved boards of Polène drapes and Goyard flat-lays, while their Indian counterparts save trousseau inspiration where embroidered potlis share space with minimal day bags. This visual exchange has created a twoway pipeline: India has adopted Europe’s neutrals and subdued branding for everyday bags, while Europe has flirted with India’s love of texture, ornamentation, and artisanal detail.
Delhi, by contrast, tells a more opulent story. The capital’s fashion is bold, brand-conscious, and often aspirational. Large prints dominate, Gucci logos are worn unapologetically, and polished South Delhi aunties carry their hard-earned Hermès quota bags as everyday staples. In Khan Market or at five-star brunches, logos act as a language of social belonging, and handbags become not only accessories but statements of power and permanence. If Mumbai’s style thrives on flux and reinvention, Delhi’s celebrates grandeur, heritage, and hierarchy.
Across these urban centres, India’s handbag culture is both fluid and stratified. Potlis, clutches, and minaudières embroidered with zardozi or mirrorwork remain festive staples, but everyday choices are increasingly split between Mumbai’s experimentalism and Delhi’s opulence. Yet both cities show traces of Europe’s influence: neutrals, camel shades, and understated carryalls appear in corporate towers and start-up offices, hinting at the spread of Europe’s quiet luxury aesthetic. Meanwhile, Europe has borrowed from India’s flamboyance—raffia textures, embroidered drawstring pouches, and jewel-toned micro-bags appear in Parisian party edits.
India’s trajectory with handbags tells a different story, steeped in occasion, craft, and color but deeply influenced by the spirit of its cities. Mumbai, the country’s fashion laboratory, thrives on speed and reinvention. Here, thrifting culture has taken root among Gen Z, and large tote bags with graphic prints are common sights on bustling trains and cafélined streets. The city’s fashion mood is maximalist yet adaptive, Indian block prints reimagined with Parisian modesty, chikankari paired with sneakers, oversized totes
filled with laptops and gym shoes styled in a way that recalls the “clean girl” aesthetic but with auniquely Mumbai twist. Streetwear silhouettes, rapid trend cycles, and a culture of experimentation mean handbags often become canvases for expression rather than just function.
One particularly intriguing crossover lies in the satchel. Today’s crescent and half-moon satchels, a campus favorite in Europe, echo a lineage stretching back to the deserts of Rajasthan. Women in those regions once used sturdy satchels and leather water carriers, such as the mashak, to transport water across arid terrains. These utilitarian designs balanced ergonomics with durability, principles that continue to define the modern satchel. The cross-body wear, curved gussets, and flap or drawstring closures we see in European boutiques are, in a sense, modern reinterpretations of age-old desert pragmatism.
What buyers ask for today is equally telling of larger cultural shifts. Vegan leathers made from cactus or apple peel are increasingly popular among Gen Z, with brands like JW PEI at the forefront. Millennials are more concerned with traceability, asking about LWG-certified tanneries or chrome-free linings. In Europe, a culture of repair and cost-per-wear is growing, making Longchamp’s service model and Polène’s robust construction appealing. In India, the balance between ornate occasion bags and understated workwear remains delicate but increasingly dynamic.
Across boutique floors, certain preferences have remained consistent. The ideal daily carry tends to measure between 30 and 36 centimetres in width, large enough for work essentials but not overwhelming. Customers gravitate toward neutral shades in autumn and winter, taupe, chocolate, and oxblood, while summer invites sand, ecru, and olive. Functionality is paramount: zippers, interior dividers, and detachable cross-body straps are mentioned as frequently as brand names. European buyers often prioritize durability over overt branding, while Indian buyers split loyalties between festive exuberance and work-friendly restraint.
Looking ahead, the merging of these priorities seems inevitable. Convertible hardware that allows a bag to shift from top-handle to cross-body, soft-structured totes that hold shape without feeling rigid, and hybrid materials fusing leather with woven textiles are the natural next steps. The future of handbags will not be defined by one culture borrowing from another, but by the ongoing dialogue between Europe’s quiet pragmatism and India’s festive tactility. Standing at the boutique counter, I see not two distinct markets but one evolving conversation, an elegant negotiation between practicality and expression.

Before she was “Sima from Mumbai,” she was just Sima an observant, chatty woman who loved meeting people and making meaningful introductions Two decades later, she’s a global face of Indian matchmaking, with Netflix fame, meme-worthy wisdom, and more cultural influence than most reality stars combined
But behind the viral clips and catchphrases is a woman with an unwavering belief: that relationships like life are built on clarity, commitment, and yes, a bit of compromise. Sima Taparia didn’t just revive the matchmaking industry. She made it mainstream, global, and unapologetically Indian.
Raised in Kalaburagi and married at 19 into Mumbai’s Taparia industrial family, Sima’s life has always revolved around people. Her love for community and conversation, combined with her deep understanding of values and compatibility, naturally led her into matchmaking. What began in 2005 as personal introductions within elite circles slowly evolved into a business and then into a brand. Today, Sima is not just a matchmaker. She’s a confidante, counsellor, content creator, and cultural commentator all wrapped in one.
Sima’s rise to global fame began with A Suitable Girl, a documentary that won at the Tribeca Film Festival and quietly spotlighted the layered, often emotional journey of women navigating arranged marriage.
But it was Indian Matchmaking on Netflix that made her a household name With three seasons (and counting), Sima’s personality equal parts practical and endearing became a viral hit. Her now-famous advice (“You have to compromise”; “Match should be 60–70%”) sparked debates, memes, merch, and even admiration from a new generation trying to make sense of love in the digital age
Suddenly, arranged marriage was no longer taboo it was trending.
Sima’s unique blend of cultural authenticity and business savvy made her a magnet for global brands From Pepsi and Burger King to BoAt, Nykaa, and Benefit Cosmetics, she’s starred in campaigns that blend tradition with pop culture flair.
She’s also become a sought-after speaker, having delivered talks at Yale, Stanford, Kellogg, and Cambridge, among others. In an era where relationships are increasingly digital, Sima reminds young audiences of the importance of intention and emotional investment
And yes, she has a postage stamp in her name A ₹5 India Post release, honoring her influence and reach a rare feat for any living personality.
Sima isn’t just about nostalgia She’s also embracing tech Her newly launched app, Urban Match, is designed for Gen Z and millennials looking for compatibility with clarity.
Match, is designed for Gen Z and millennials looking for compatibility with clarity
Backed by AI and verified biodatas, Urban Match aims to do what dating apps don’t prioritize safety, family values, and long-term vision without losing sight of individual agency.
“It’s not about finding perfection It’s about finding potential,” she says “You meet at 70%, and grow into the rest”
Despite her stardom, Sima remains rooted in her purpose. She still believes in meeting people, understanding their energy, and helping them find not just matches but meaning
Her schedule now includes brand shoots, media panels, and travel but she still carves out time for one-on-one consultations, family, and the occasional Punjabi song recording (yes, “Sima ne haan kardi” has over 6 million views on YouTube)
Sima’s plans for the future include more university engagements, film projects, and expanding her influence into international markets. She’s also exploring collaborations with brands aligned with self-growth, relationships, and emotional intelligence
Her motto? “Reinvent daily Stay rooted, but always explore.”
And because love, as it turns out, never goes out of style
Because in a world full of temporary connections, Sima Taparia stands for something lasting
Because she took a deeply Indian tradition and made it resonate across time zones
Because she’s not afraid to be both timeless and trending
Her motto? “Reinvent daily. Stay rooted, but always explore.”
“I don’t believe in rules. I believe in evolving. And in staying true to your own language.”
Anamika Khanna isn’t in the business of following rules she’s in the quiet pursuit of rewriting them Based in Kolkata, the designer has spent over two decades evolving Indian couture with a voice that doesn’t shout, yet always resonates Her signature? A seamless fusion of age-old Indian craftsmanship with a globally relevant, contemporary edge
One of the first Indian women to showcase at Paris Fashion Week under her own label, Anamika’s journey has never been about chasing the spotlight it’s been about creating her own lane And she has, beautifully From the reinvention of the dhoti pant and dramatic capes to hand-embroidered separates that blur the line between traditional and experimental, her work carries a language of its own quietly powerful, deeply intentional, and always wearable
Her vision of couture is rooted in emotion “I don’t believe in rules I believe in evolving And in staying true to your own language,” she once said That philosophy shows in every garment she creates. Whether she’s dressing Sonam Kapoor in a dramatic ivory sari-gown hybrid or launching her ready-to-wear label AK-OK, Anamika doesn’t just make clothes she crafts stories
What makes her particularly compelling as a woman entrepreneur is her refusal to compromise artistry for trend In a fashion climate saturated with noise, she holds space for subtlety Her silhouettes are architectural but fluid, her palette is bold but never loud, and her drapes hold a certain stillness, almost like a meditation in motion
Over the years, she’s built more than just a fashion house she’s built a culture of reinvention The AKOK label, for instance, was born from a personal moment of healing, when her son reassured her she was doing “okay” The label now represents creative freedom and resilience a powerful message in today’s hyper-curated world.
As much as she’s a creative force, Anamika is also a quiet leader She rarely courts attention for herself, preferring to let her work, her team, and her philosophy do the talking Her workshops prioritize
collaboration, craftsmanship, and innovation values that have kept her brand timeless in a fastchangingindustry
In an era where many fashion brands are scrambling to stay visible, Anamika Khanna stands anchored Not because she resists change but becauseshehonorsitonherownterms She’sproof thattruestyledoesn’tage, itevolves.
From the ateliers of Kolkata to runways across Paris, Delhi, and Mumbai, Anamika has shown us that couture can be modern without being fleeting, experimental without losing soul, and Indian withoutborders

Few people embody wellness the way Deanne Panday does authentically, passionately, and with decades of wisdom to show for it. Long before green juices and fitness trackers became part of everyday vocabulary, she was already walking the path of holistic health As one of India’s first wellness influencers, best-selling author, and a mentor to countless celebrities and Miss India contestants, Deanne’s journey is one of quiet discipline, deep self-awareness, and lasting impact.
In this candid conversation with Womenpreneur India, she opens up about what drew her to fitness as a teenager, the secret behind juggling career and motherhood, and the one practice she believes every school should teach
You’ve been a pioneer in India’s fitness and wellness space. What initially drew you to this field, long before it was mainstream?
“I started very young at 16. During summer breaks, I’d do part-time jobs and save up just to join a gym Back then, only five-star hotels had fitness centers; there were no private gyms, no concept of wellness or nutrition. But I loved lifting weights, doing step aerobics I felt energized, confident, strong Around 16 and a half, I also discovered yoga It brought me calm during school stress. Later, I explored Ashtanga yoga, which complemented my weight training That blend of strength and stillness shaped my lifelong approach to wellness.”
How do you approach holistic wellness today especially for women juggling career, family, and self-care?
“Starting early gave me an advantage I built physical, mental, and emotional strength early on By the time I became a mother, wife, and professional, I was already grounded in wellness. I could juggle roles with ease because self-care was non-negotiable: yoga, meditation, gym time, even short solo trips to reconnect with myself That’s still my approach build resilience within, and life becomes manageable”
As an author, what message do you hope your books leave with readers?
“Each of my three books carries a message I’m Not Stressed talks about how stress affects the body and how to heal through holistic habits something I experienced first-hand during my peak career years
40// Womenpreneur India
Shut Up and Train! is a guide for organic, sustainable fitness no quick fixes, no steroids, just honest wellness. Balance is about achieving harmony across all areas of life: career, relationships, emotions All three are connected My message is simple be real, eat local, move naturally, and find what works for you.”
What’s one wellness practice or mindset shift that has personally transformed your life?
“Yoga and meditation I call it my brain spa Just like you go for a facial or massage, this is for your mind It’s helped me stay calm, focused, and peaceful. Honestly, I believe yoga should be a compulsory subject in every school worldwide It changed my life, and it can do that for anyone”
As a woman entrepreneur in the lifestyle and wellness space, what has been your biggest learning so far?
“That your wellness journey must be as individual as your fingerprint. Don’t copy trends. Eat what grows locally, use clean products, and surround yourself with positivity Wellness isn’t how you look on social media it’s how you speak, how you think, and how you treat people in your own home I’ve learned that kindness, simplicity, and integrity are just as important as diet and workouts”
Your son Ahaan is stepping into the spotlight with Saiyaara What’s it like watching him begin his journey in the film industry? How do you balance being a wellness advocate and a supportive mom in the public eye?
“I’m incredibly proud of Ahaan and my daughter too As a mom, success means raising kind, grounded children. My mom instilled that in me, and I’ve passed it on. We celebrate success, but we never let it go to our heads As for balancing it all I’ve always walked the talk Read Balance, and you’ll see how I’ve lived this life authentically. My kids are kind, respectful, and self-aware That’s the real win”
From raising a family to raising the bar on authenticity, she continues to inspire a generation of women to own their power, trust their rhythm, and embrace balance not as a trend, but as a truth
“Wellness isn’t a routine. It’s a way of being. ”
“You just need a good trainer who focuses on the basics and builds a strong foundation so you can layer on that safely. And lastly, consistency…”

If fashion in India had chapters, Rina Dhaka would be woven through every one of them. She’s been part of the evolution, the disruption, and the quiet moments of reinvention in between And yet, decades into her career, she’s not chasing relevance she’s shaping what it looks like
Ask her what keeps her going, and the answer is refreshingly simple: “You can’t stop creating” Whether it’s building a new collection, researching silhouettes, or just pushing herself out of a creative rut, the fire hasn’t dimmed it’s just gotten sharper
Designing for today’s Indian woman, she says, is like prepping for a modern-day performance. “Everyone has a role now from the bride to the guests to the décor team
There are themes, mood boards, and even sneakers under lehengas It’s a full production” But that’s what excites her this merging of tradition with personal expression. India Modern, as she calls it
Of course, behind the runway is the reality tight deadlines, production chaos, and the constant pull between home and work “Fashion looks glamorous, but it’s a grind And families pay a price I’m lucky mine’s been supportive”
She’s honest, too, about what she’d tell her younger self: “Let them take your photo Let your story be seen That visibility matters now more than ever not just for your work, but for who you are.”
Today, when “influence” is a title people carry on business cards, Rina sees it differently For her, it’s about expression, evolution, and not being afraid to show your process “People want to know the person behind the pieces. That’s the journey they connect with”
And hers? Still unfolding, still iconic, still very much her own wwwwomenpreneurindiacom
When sisters Ritika and Prerna launched Urmil in 2019, they weren’t just starting a label they were setting out to create a dialogue between India’s rich craft traditions and the modern woman’s wardrobe Today, Urmil is celebrated for its refined silhouettes, artisanal depth, and fresh interpretations of heritage techniques.
In this exclusive conversation for Womenpreneur India’s Influence Issue, Ritika and Prerna share their journey of building Urmil as self-funded entrepreneurs, the philosophy behind their designs, and the bond that keeps them going
What inspired you both to start Urmil, and how has your vision evolved since 2019?
“We started Urmil with a deep-rooted love for textiles and storytelling. Growing up, we were surrounded by Indian crafts, but we wanted to present them in a way that felt relevant to our generation modern, versatile, and global. When we launched in 2019, the focus was on creating timeless yet fresh garments Over time, the vision expanded. Urmil today is not just about clothes, but about cultural continuity every piece carries intention, artistry, and emotion.”
46// Womenpreneur India
Your work beautifully blends craft with contemporary design. How do you strike that balance?
“For us, craft isn’t nostalgia, it’s possibility We begin with traditional techniques hand embroidery, layering, appliqué but reinterpret them in new forms and contexts Pearls and strings, for instance, may be ornamental by tradition, but we use them structurally or texturally The balance lies in honoring the roots while giving ourselves the freedom to question and reimagine That dialogue between past and present is what keeps Urmil alive”
September 2025
As self-funded entrepreneurs, what have been your defining challenges and proudest milestones?
“Being self-funded makes every decision deeply personal The challenge has always been to grow slowly and thoughtfully, without chasing shortcuts Limited resources often forced us to be more creative and hands-on, which in hindsight was a blessing Our proudest milestones include seeing Urmil on women who truly connect with our pieces, showcasing at Lakmé Fashion Week, and being recognized within the design community for having carved out a distinct identity
As sisters, how do you support and balance each other creatively and emotionally?
What do you want a woman to feel when she wears Urmil?
“Powerful yet poetic. Our clothes aren’t about overt glamour but about a quiet strength that comes from detail and thoughtfulness We want women to feel ease, confidence, and authenticity as though the garment celebrates who they already are.”
How has being women entrepreneurs influenced the way you design and run your brand?
“We design from lived experience As women, we understand the desire for comfort without compromise, for pieces that flow across roles and moods. That perspective shapes not only our silhouettes but also the way we build our team and community Leadership, for us, is about empathy, resilience, and intuition qualities that being women entrepreneurs has sharpened”
“Being sisters is both grounding and liberating. While one of us may dive deeper into design exploration, the other ensures flawless execution Creatively, that means constant dialogue; emotionally, it means there’s always someone who understands without needing explanation We push each other forward, but we also protect each other that balance has been the backbone of Urmil.”
Finally, what advice would you give women looking to build a strong design-led brand?
“Stay true to your vision, but let it evolve Strong identity doesn’t come from trends it comes from knowing your voice and your values Start small, invest in authenticity, and embrace slow growth. Build a community, not just a customer base. And remember, resilience is just as vital as creativity”
From The Silent Fold collection inspired by origami, to their steadily growing community of women who resonate with their ethos, Ritika and Prerna are proving that fashion rooted in craft can feel both modern and timeless. With every fold, layer, and stitch, Urmil continues to tell a story of artistry, identity, and empowerment
Before clean beauty became a buzzword, Shahnaz Husain had already built an empire around it Long before natural skincare took over Instagram shelves, she was bottling ancient Ayurvedic wisdom into jars of innovation and empowerment Her name today is synonymous with legacy timeless, trailblazing, and unapologetically Indian
What started as a single woman’s vision to replace chemicals with herbs has grown into a brand that spans over 100 countries. But the story of Shahnaz Husain is more than global business it’s a masterclass in purpose-led entrepreneurship. At a time when boardrooms were closed to women, she opened her own doors and then held them open for others
With every product, every formula, every clinic she opened, she redefined what beauty could mean for Indian women It wasn’t about fairness creams or one-size-fits-all glamour it was about ownership, identity, and tradition
Womenpreneur India
worn with pride Ayurveda wasn’t just a selling point; it was her statement of cultural confidence
Over the decades, Shahnaz has been celebrated with countless awards including the Padma Shri but her real legacy lies in the ripple effect she created. She built more than a brand, she built belief A belief that a woman with vision could rise, lead, and transform not just an industry, but a mindset
Today, as new-age wellness brands ride the Ayurveda wave, they walk the path she paved And through it all, she remains a guiding force proof that when a woman builds from her roots, the world takes notice
“Where the world saw cosmetics, she envisioned a global renaissance of Ayurveda ”

Some journeys begin quietly with a sketch, a compliment, or a moment of reflection For Neerja Manju, founder of Thakurbai, it began with a simple truth: every time she stepped out in something she had designed for herself, people noticed They asked where she got it Admired the fabric, the fit, the grace. And slowly, the idea started to grow what if she could create that same feeling for other women too?
Thakurbai was born from that spark. It’s an ethnic wear label rooted in tradition, but with a modern edge that feels fresh, wearable, and deeply feminine Based in Jaipur, the brand reflects Neerja’s love for rich Indian textiles, flattering silhouettes, and understated detailing
These are clothes meant to be lived in celebrated in not just admired on a hanger.

For Neerja, it’s also a way to give back A portion of the brand’s growth supports animal welfare something she holds close to her heart It’s a quiet promise that every outfit contributes to something bigger
Today, Thakurbai has found its way into wardrobes across India and beyond It’s worn by women who value comfort and culture, tradition and individuality And as Neerja continues to grow her label, one thing remains unchanged her belief that style should feel like home, and purpose should always be stitched into the fabric
“Thakurbai started with the love I poured into my own outfits now, it’s about helping every woman feel effortlessly graceful in her own skin.”

In today’s economy, a healthy paycheck doesn't guarantee financial freedom—but strategic habits can.
Chartered Accountant Nitin Kaushik recently shared a refreshing take: earning ₹1 lakh a month isn't necessary to grow wealth—even ₹30,000 earners can build meaningful savings with the right discipline. His key advice? Start small, stay consistent, avoid flashy pitfalls, and let financial discipline—not glamour—drive your wealth journey.
His guidance comes with a dose of realism. As he notes, bigger salaries often lead to bigger lifestyle inflation. So, spend only half your income, diversify investments, build multiple income streams, secure adequate insurance, and always watch your lifestyle leaks. It’s not about flashy purchases—it’s about long-term intent.
If you're just starting out, introduce the 10 30 50 rule, as recommended by Radhika Gupta, CEO of Edelweiss MF. Allocate 10% to short-term expenses, 30% to mediumterm needs, and invest the remaining 50% for the long haul. Automate savings at the source, and tune out lifestyle distractions.
These insights underscore a simple truth: Wealth is built by behavior, not income level. By anchoring financial plans in consistency, simplicity, and foresight, even modest earners can write powerful stories of growth without stretching beyond their means.
Another timeless tool? The Rule of 72, a simple formula that estimates how long your money takes to double. Just divide 72 by your expected annual return. For instance, at a 9% return, your money doubles in about 8 years. A handy shortcut for understanding the power of compounding.
And when markets or pay cycles shift, the best safety net is preparedness. CA Nitin Kaushik urges salaried professionals to build a robust emergency fund and park savings thoughtfully—not reactively.
