The Future of Women in Entrepreneurship in India

In recent years, the landscape of entrepreneurship in India has undergone a transformative shift, with women at the forefront of innovation, leadership, and impact. Today, women entrepreneurs are driving change across industries, reshaping traditional business models, and pioneering new sectors. With growing support from policy reforms, funding initiatives, and an expanding ecosystem for startups, the future of women in entrepreneurship looks brighter than ever. Key trends like sustainability, digital innovation, and gender-inclusive policies are setting the stage for women to excel, redefine the entrepreneurial space, and inspire future generations.

The Rise of Sustainability in Entrepreneurship

One of the most promising trends favoring female entrepreneurs is the rise of sustainable business practices. Sustainability is no longer a buzzword; it is now a central pillar of modern entrepreneurship. Women have a unique position in this movement, as their businesses often emphasize environmental consciousness, social impact, and long-term value. Female entrepreneurs, more than ever, are leading the charge in creating eco-friendly products, services, and processes, demonstrating a commitment to both profitability and positive environmental impact.

For instance, many women-led businesses in India are adopting sustainable models across various industries, including fashion, beauty, agriculture, and technology. These entrepreneurs are often choosing locally sourced materials, ethical labor practices, and minimal-waste processes. Beyond generating revenue, these enterprises are also creating awareness around sustainable living and encouraging conscious consumerism. As environmental issues continue to dominate global discourse,

the demand for sustainable products and services will only grow, providing an immense opportunity for women who are paving the way in this area.

Government policies, too, are increasingly aligning with sustainable business practices, providing grants, tax incentives, and support for green initiatives. With support from both private and public sectors, women-led businesses focusing on sustainability are expected to flourish and play a significant role in India’s green economy.

The Digital Revolution and its Impact on Women Entrepreneurs

The digital revolution has broken down many barriers for women in business, offering opportunities to enter industries that were once male-dominated. With advancements in digital technology, women entrepreneurs are leveraging online platforms, e-commerce, and digital marketing to reach larger audiences and compete on a global scale. This digital shift has enabled women to operate from anywhere, allowing greater flexibility and reducing logis-

tical constraints, which is especially valuable for those balancing family commitments with entrepreneurial ambitions.

Digital platforms offer women the chance to tap into various markets, from e-commerce and edtech to fintech and healthtech. The availability of tools that support digital marketing, customer outreach, and financial management has simplified business operations, enabling women to focus on growth and innovation. Moreover, social media has become an invaluable asset, allowing female entrepreneurs to build brand visibility, engage with customers directly, and create communities around their businesses.

India’s digital economy, which is expected to continue its rapid growth in the coming years, presents a wide-open field for women entrepreneurs to enter and excel. As more women acquire technical skills, adopt digital tools, and access online resources, they are better positioned than ever to establish and grow businesses in the digital realm.

Access to Funding: A Shifting Landscape

The future of women in entrepreneurship in India is filled with opportunities for growth and leadership. Emerging trends in sustainability and technology, along with supportive policies, are propelling women forward. The journey ahead is one of innovation, collaboration, and resilience, with women entrepreneurs leading towards a more inclusive and sustainable future.

Access to capital has long been a challenge for women entrepreneurs, but the landscape is gradually changing. With increased awareness about gender bias in funding, more venture capitalists and angel investors are focusing on funding women-led ventures. New financial initiatives and grants are designed specifically for female entrepreneurs, and these opportunities continue to grow. Organizations are recognizing the untapped potential of women-led businesses and are creating pathways to provide them with the financial support necessary for scaling and innovation.

Microfinancing and digital lending platforms are also making a significant impact. By providing small loans and credit access, these platforms are enabling women, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, to launch small businesses and support their families. Moreover, many women are utilizing crowdfunding as an alternative source of funding, which allows them to raise funds based on the merit of their ideas rather than relying solely on institutional backing.

This shift in funding dynamics has made entrepreneurship more accessible, empowering women across socioeconomic backgrounds to pursue their dreams of building successful businesses. It’s clear that as funding opportunities become more inclusive, women entrepreneurs will continue to innovate and create lasting impact.

Government Initiatives and Policies Supporting Women Entrepreneurs

India’s government has recognized the need to support women entrepreneurs and has introduced numerous schemes and policies aimed at fostering female-led businesses. From the “Stand Up India” scheme, which provides loans specifically for women entrepreneurs, to programs that focus on skill development and entrepreneurship training, the government is

taking meaningful steps to empower women in business. These policies encourage women to participate actively in the economy, offering training programs, mentorship opportunities, and financial support.

In addition to direct government programs, there are also public-private partnerships and collaboration with industry bodies to promote women in business. These partnerships provide essential resources such as networking events, workshops, and accelerator programs that help women entrepreneurs scale their businesses. As these government initiatives expand and adapt to the evolving needs of women in business, they will be pivotal in creating an enabling environment for female entrepreneurs in India.

Education and Skill Development: Building a Foundation for the Future

Education and skill development are fundamental to entrepreneurial success, and many women are now actively pursuing these opportunities to build successful businesses. Numerous organizations offer skill development programs tailored specifically to women entrepreneurs, covering essential areas such as business management, financial literacy, digital marketing, and technology. Women are also increasingly enrolling in business and technology courses to enhance their knowledge and stay competitive.

Furthermore, mentorship programs have gained popularity, as they provide women entrepreneurs with guidance and support from experienced professionals. These mentors not only offer business insights but also help women navigate challenges and connect with other entrepreneurs. By investing in education and skills, women are equipping themselves with the tools needed to succeed, grow their businesses, and

lead in their respective fields.

Resilience and Community: The Power of Networks

Women’s entrepreneurial networks are thriving in India, providing invaluable support to those navigating the challenges of business. Networking groups, forums, and organizations for women entrepreneurs foster a sense of community and belonging, offering resources, advice, and mentorship. Women can find allies, partners, and collaborators through these networks, which are especially crucial in overcoming gender-related obstacles in the entrepreneurial journey.

However, women entrepreneurs have consistently shown resilience and adaptability, overcoming these hurdles to reach new heights.

Looking to the future, it is evident that women are positioned to make even greater contributions to India’s economy and society. Chandralekha Mittemari Ravikumar

Empowering India’s Middle Class

In the heart of Bengaluru, where technology and tradition intersect, Chandralekha Mittemari Ravikumar is on a mission to simplify the world of finance for India’s vast middle class. As a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Chandralekha’s journey from a Big 4 firm to becoming a leading voice in personal finance education is a testament to her passion and expertise. Her work has resonated with hundreds of thousands, transforming how they approach money and finance.

“I’ve always believed that financial literacy is not just a skill but a necessity,” Chandralekha

begins, her voice carrying the conviction of someone deeply committed to her cause. “Growing up, I saw how the lack of financial knowledge could impact families. It wasn’t just about budgeting or saving—it was about making informed decisions that could change the trajectory of one’s life. That’s what inspired me to pursue finance, and eventually, to share what I’ve learned with others.”

Chandralekha’s career began in the corridors of KPMG, where she honed her skills as a Risk Consultant. “Working at a Big 4 firm was a fantastic experience. I dealt with everything from financial analysis to risk management and compliance. But while I was helping large organizations navigate complex financial landscapes, I couldn’t help but think about the everyday people who struggle with even basic financial decisions.”

It was this realization that led Chandralekha to pivot from corporate consulting to personal finance education. “I wanted to make a real difference. I wanted to take all that technical knowledge and translate it into something accessible, something that could genuinely help people,” she says. Chandralekha launched her social media channels, where she began sharing tips, insights, and stories about money management in a way that was relatable and easy to understand.

“When I started, I never imagined it would grow the way it has,” she reflects, smiling. “I was just focused on creating content that I believed in, that I felt was needed. But soon, I realized there was a massive demand for this kind of information. People were hungry for knowledge, and they were tired of the jargon that often surrounds finance.”

Today, Chandralekha’s social media presence is nothing short of staggering. With over 942,000 subscribers and an average viewership of more than 500,000, she has become a trusted voice in the personal finance space. “It’s incredibly humbling, but it also makes me realize the responsibility I have. Every video, every post, I’m mindful of the impact it can have on someone’s life,” she says.

Chandralekha’s content is known for its practicality and approachability. She uses real-life scenarios to illustrate financial concepts, breaking down

complex ideas into simple, actionable steps. “Finance doesn’t have to be intimidating, it’s about making smart choices, and those choices are easier to make when you have the right information.” She insists.

But Chandralekha’s ambitions don’t stop at social media. Recently, she founded “Dime,” a newsletter aimed at helping Indians decode money in all aspects of life. “Dime is very close to my heart. I wanted to create a platform that goes beyond social media’s reach, something more intimate and focused. The goal is to help 10 million Indians understand and manage their finances better by 2050.” She shares.

In just a short time, “Dime” has already attracted over 8,000 subscribers, a testament to Chandralekha’s ability to deliver content that resonates. “The response has been amazing. People appreciate that it’s not just about telling them what to do, but explaining why it’s important. It’s about giving them the tools they need to make informed decisions.” She added.

Chandralekha is also acutely aware of the challenges that come with this level of visibility and influence. “There’s always pressure to keep up with trends, to constantly churn out content,” she admits. “But I’ve learned that staying true to my mission is what matters most. I’m here to educate, to empower, and that’s what guides everything I do.”

Looking ahead, Chandralekha is optimistic about the future of financial literacy in India. “We’re at a pivotal moment. With the rise of digital platforms and the increasing accessibility of information, there’s a real opportunity to make financial education a part of everyday life for millions of Indians. It’s not just about understanding money, it’s about using that understanding to improve lives.” She affirmed.

At the end of the day, it’s not about numbers or followers, it’s about the people behind those numbers, the lives that are being changed. That’s what keeps me going.

For Chandralekha, the journey is far from over. “There’s still so much work to be done,” she says, her eyes shining with determination. “But I’m ready for it. If I can help even a fraction of India’s middle-class gain control over their finances, then it’s all worth it.”

As she continues to expand her reach and influence, Chandralekha remains grounded in her mission. “At the end of the day, it’s not about numbers or followers, it’s about the people behind those numbers, the lives that are being changed. That’s what keeps me going.” She concludes.

Chandralekha Mittemari Ravikumar is a catalyst for change, and empowering a new generation to take control of their financial futures.

Anushka Rathod Redefining Financial Literacy and Empowering a Generation

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, when uncertainty loomed large, Anushka Rathod found her true calling. Armed with a postgraduate degree in taxation, a CFA Level 1 certification, and experience in investment banking and wealth management, Anushka took a detour that led her straight to her destiny. Today, she is not just a finance content creator but a force to be reckoned with in the world of personal finance education, with a community of over 2 million followers.

As soon as our conversation with Anushka begins, it’s clear that she’s not your typical finance guru. “My detour led me to my destiny. I realized that finance content was often lengthy, dull, and inaccessible to the average person. I wanted to change that, to make finance not just understandable but fun.” She says with a smile, recalling how she first began exploring social media during the initial months of the pandemic.

This vision became the foundation of Anushka’s approach to content creation. She started breaking down complex financial concepts into bite-sized, 30-second videos that were as entertaining as they were informative. “I knew that if I could keep it short and engaging, more people would be inclined to learn. The feedback loop was incredible—every post I made helped me refine my content, and the response from the audience was overwhelmingly positive.” She explains.

Today, Anushka’s social media platforms and YouTube channel boast a combined following of over 1.8 million. Her content resonates with a wide range of audiences, from teenagers to professionals, all eager to learn more about managing their money. “The most rewarding part is hearing from people who’ve benefited from my advice,” she says. “Knowing that I’m making a real difference in their lives is what drives me.”

But Anushka’s influence extends beyond just social media. Her newsletter, ‘Crore Club,’ has more than 10,000 subscribers, all of whom receive regular insights and tips on how to navigate the financial world. “Crore Club is my way of reaching out to people who want to go deeper,” she explains.

“It’s not just about getting followers, it’s about building a community that supports and uplifts each other on the path to financial success.”

Anushka’s content has not only impacted her audience but has also garnered recognition from industry peers. Raj Shamani, a fellow content creator and founder of House of X, discovered Anushka’s work through the women in his family. “She was one of the first creators that women in my family told me about, every week, I learn so much from her content, it was never taught to me anywhere else. She has a way of explaining things that just clicks.” Raj told me about Anushka.

Despite her growing popularity, Anushka remains focused on her mission rather than chasing numbers. “It’s not difficult to get attention, but the attention that comes fast also goes fast,” she says thoughtfully. “I’ve always been focused on building a community, not just an audience. The purpose of my content is to educate and empower, and that’s what attracts people to my platform. If you’re just chasing numbers, you’ll always be lost and stressed because attention is fickle. But a strong community stays with you.”

Anushka’s success is a testament to the power of passion and authenticity. Her innovative approach to finance has not only made her a leading voice in the industry but has also earned her a spot on the prestigious Forbes 30 Under 30 lists for both India and Asia in

2024—the only creator to make it to both lists in the same year.

My goal is to make finance fun and accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or education. I’m here to make a difference. And I’m not stopping anytime soon.

Looking ahead, Anushka is excited about the future of financial literacy in India. “We’re just getting started. There’s so much more to explore and so many more people to reach. My goal is to make finance fun and accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or education.” She says with enthusiasm.

As our conversation comes to an end, it’s clear that Anushka Rathod is more than just a finance content creator. She’s a trailblazer, breaking down barriers and paving the way for a new generation of financially empowered individuals. “I’m here to make a difference. And I’m not stopping anytime soon.” She says, her voice filled with determination.

In a world where financial literacy is often overlooked, Anushka Rathod is proving that learning about money doesn’t have to be a chore, it can be a journey that’s as fun as it is rewarding.

Pritie Jain

Redefining Weddings, Empowering Women, and Changing Narratives

Pritie Jain’s journey is an example to perseverance, passion, and an unyielding commitment to redefining what it means to be a leader in a traditionally male-dominated industry. Born with a love for communication and a natural gift for engaging people, Pritie discovered her true calling through a series of unexpected turns. Today, she stands as one of the most sought-after “wedding architects” in India, specializing in luxury and intimate weddings, all while championing women’s empowerment both in her industry and beyond.

A Journey from Humble Beginnings to Uncharted Territories

Pritie’s career is anything but conventional. She began working part-time jobs as early as eighth grade and initially aimed to pursue a career in medicine after completing her 12th grade education. However, fate had different plans. After receiving a dental seat but yearning to enter the medical field, Pritie decided to repeat a year. During this time, she entered the Miss Chennai contest, where she won the Miss Talent award, marking the beginning of her discovery that she could turn her natural gift of gab into a career.

This revelation sparked her foray into emceeing, a path that would serve as the foundation for her professional life. Simultaneously, Pritie enrolled in law school, realizing that her ability to communicate and connect with people would be invaluable in both law and events. Balancing her studies with an 8-hour shift for a UK process at a call center, she never stopped working

toward her dreams. Throughout her law college years, she continued to work as an emcee, honing her skills and discovering her passion for event curation.

After finishing law school, Pritie experimented with various creative endeavors, including designing, before helping a family friend plan a wedding. This experience led her to discover her true calling—event and wedding planning. Since that first wedding, Pritie has never looked back. Fourteen years later, she has made her mark on the wedding industry, carving out a niche for herself as a wedding architect, designing immersive and unforgettable experiences for her clients.

The “Wedding Architect”: Redefining the Wedding Industry

Pritie does not approach weddings as mere events to be decorated; she views them as spaces that need to be crafted and designed holistically. Her approach goes beyond decor—she focuses on creating a comprehensive experience for everyone involved. This mindset led her to the

title of “wedding architect,” reflecting her belief that every wedding is a masterpiece in need of a solid foundation and thoughtful design, much like the work of an architect.

“We eat, breathe, and sleep in the space and experience in totality,” Pritie explains. This meticulous attention to detail and her unwavering commitment to creating meaningful and unforgettable experiences for her clients have set her apart from the rest of the industry. She doesn’t just curate weddings; she creates emotional, immersive environments where every detail aligns to tell a story—one that resonates deeply with her clients and their guests.

A Legacy of Empowerment and Innovation

Pritie’s success has led her to work with renowned names, including Radhika Merchant Ambani, but she approaches every wedding with the same level of care and attention, regardless of the client’s status. For Pritie, it’s about doing justice to the art of wedding planning and honoring the once-in-alifetime nature of each event. “If it doesn’t excite us, we never bring it to the table,” she explains.

Her brand’s exclusivity and commitment to innovation ensure that every wedding is unique, personal, and reflective of the client’s personality and vision. Pritie’s goal is not just to create beautiful weddings, but to craft unforgettable experiences that leave a lasting impact on everyone involved.

A Leader in Weddings and Women’s Empowerment

Pritie Jain’s journey from emceeing to wedding architect and social advocate is a story of resilience, creativity, and an unshakable belief in the power of women. Through her all-women team, her advocacy for gender equality, and her work with Gulaab Sevaa, Pritie is not only transforming the wedding industry but also empowering women to find their voice and place in the world.

As she continues to curate extraordinary weddings and fight for women’s rights, Pritie’s legacy is clear: she is not just shaping events, she is shaping the future—one wedding, one woman, and one story at a time.

If it doesn’t excite us, we never bring it to the table. It’s about doing justice to the art of wedding planning and honoring the once-in-a-lifetime nature of each event.

Raina Shriwaardankar

The Dynamic Journey in Fashion, E-commerce, and Luxury Branding

Raina Shriwaardankar has emerged as a powerhouse of innovation, strategy, and leadership, seamlessly blending creativity with commerce. With 17 years of experience and a background in mass media and a deep passion for brand development, Raina has built an impressive career, navigating the dynamic world of retail, e-commerce, and luxury fashion. As the Chief Brand Officer of Tao Paris and Aria Nica, she has successfully steered these brands to new heights, embracing both challenges and opportunities with remarkable finesse.

A Foundation in Media and Retail

Raina’s journey began with a bachelor’s degree in mass media (advertising) and topped her class in her final year. She further honed her skills with an MBA in retail which was in collaboration with Shoppers Stop. Recently, she added another feather to her cap by earning a certification in Luxury Brand Management from the London School of Trends. Her academic background laid a strong foundation, but it was her practical experience that truly shaped her career trajectory.

“My early days at Percept were transformative. Working on brands like Bally, Mango, Central, and Pantaloons, I discovered my passion for strategizing and building brands. It was an exciting time, and those experiences were pivotal in shaping my understanding of the retail landscape.” Raina reflects.

Having co-founded a kids’ apparel brand, I gained extensive experience in building a business from the ground up. My role involved managing all aspects of the company, including product sourcing, e-commerce operations, marketing, and finance. This comprehensive experience has provided me with a deep understanding of how to successfully navigate and integrate various business functions.

Strategic Leadership at Tao Paris and Beyond

Raina’s career is marked by her ability to translate her academic knowledge and early experiences into impactful brand strategies. After her stint at Percept, she played a crucial role in establishing the e-commerce businesses for Crossword and Shoppers Stop. Her expertise spans major e-commerce platforms, including Jabong, Myntra, Flipkart, Amazon, Nykaa Fashion, Ajio, FirstCry, and Shoppers Stop, giving her a strong foundation in running successful brands.

When asked about her role at Tao Paris and Aria Nica, Raina shares, “My journey with Tao Paris began in 2016 as part of the core founding committee. My focus has always been on building the brand’s presence and ensuring it resonates with our target audience. From strategically listing our products on major platforms like Myntra and Amazon to meticulously crafting our social media presence, every decision was made with a clear vision in mind. Also working along with Aastha Mahtani the visionary founder of Tao Paris and Aria Nica, where she not only leads the creative and designing aspects but also plays a crucial role in overseeing the marketing department has helped the brand experience significant growth, establishing a strong presence in the fashion world. As one of the most prominent and influential figures in the company,

Raina’s strategic approach has been instrumental in the brand’s success. In 2021, she led a comprehensive rebranding of Tao Paris, launching it with a 360-degree marketing plan that included digital campaigns, influencer collaborations, and traditional media outreach. “One of the highlights was our collaboration with Seema K. Sajdeh for the Tao Paris Wanderlust line,” she notes. “It resonated strongly with our audience and solidified our brand’s position in the market.”

Navigating Challenges in the Footwear Industry

The journey, however, hasn’t been without its challenges. The footwear industry, particularly when it comes to children’s and tween brands, presents unique hurdles. “One of the biggest challenges is balancing comfort, quality, and fashion. Parents prioritize comfort and durability, while kids are more focused on style. Finding that sweet spot where both are satisfied is no small feat.” Raina explains.

My focus has always been on building the brand’s presence and ensuring it resonates with our target audience. Every decision was made with a clear vision in mind.

To address these challenges, “We worked closely with podiatrists and children’s foot health experts to design shoes that look good and support foot health. It’s about ensuring our products meet the highest standards of comfort and quality while staying on-trend.” She says.

Raina also emphasizes the importance of educating customers. “Parents and tweens might not always understand the importance of proper footwear,” she adds. “We implemented educational marketing campaigns to highlight why choosing the right shoes is crucial for growing feet. It’s about building trust and encouraging informed purchasing decisions.”

Falguni Nayar

The Bold Visionary Who Redefined Beauty and Empowered Women in Business

In 2021, Falguni Nayar made history as India’s most prominent self-made female billionaire. However, her journey to this remarkable achievement is far from conventional, serving as a testament to the power of bold decisions, unwavering ambition, and a relentless drive to make a difference. At an age when most people are thinking of slowing down, Falguni chose to take a leap of faith, leaving behind a successful 20-year career in corporate India to launch one of the most iconic beauty brands in the country—Nykaa.

Falguni’s story is one of reinvention and courage. After earning her degree from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM)

Ahmedabad, she began her career in the corporate world, quickly rising through the ranks to become the Managing Director of Kotak Mahindra Capital Co. A successful and respected figure in the financial world, Falguni seemed to have it all. But despite her achievements, she felt there was more for her to accomplish.

Having grown up witnessing her father run a small bearings business, Falguni was always drawn to entrepreneurship. She knew early on that she had the ambition and drive to succeed on her own terms. This was a lesson ingrained in her from a young age. When she reached the milestone of nearly 50 years old, she made a decision that would change the course of her life: she would leave her high-powered corporate job to pursue a business that was deeply personal to her—building a beauty empire

that would empower women and make quality beauty products accessible to all.

In 2012, she founded Nykaa, a beauty and cosmetics brand that would quickly revolutionize the industry. At the time, the Indian beauty market was highly fragmented, with limited options for consumers to access both affordable and luxury beauty products under one roof. Falguni saw an opportunity to create a platform that offered a comprehensive range of products— ranging from skincare, cosmetics, and hair care, to men’s grooming, cruelty-free beauty, and informative content.

Nykaa began as an online platform, but under Falguni’s visionary leadership, it expanded into a multi-channel brand that combined both online and offline experiences. Nykaa’s rise was swift, and its impact profound. With Falguni’s deep understanding of consumer behavior and her keen ability to spot trends, Nykaa quickly became a household name, known for offering not just beauty products, but also valuable content, expert advice, and a platform for women to express their true selves.

In 2021, Nykaa went public with its Initial Public Offering (IPO), marking a significant milestone in both the company’s and Falguni’s entrepreneurial journey. During the listing ceremony, Falguni spoke to the dreams of countless people, particularly women across India. She said, “To everyone across India who ever had a dream, especially women with a dream, I hope the

Nykaa journey—an Indian-born, Indian-owned and Indian-managed dream come true—can inspire each of you to be the Nykaa of your lives.”

Falguni’s words resonated deeply with her audience, as she has become a beacon of hope for women entrepreneurs and business leaders. Her rise to success is a powerful narrative of perseverance, passion, and belief in one’s vision, regardless of age or industry. She has proven that entrepreneurship isn’t just reserved for the young or the inexperienced—it’s about the willingness to take risks, challenge norms, and push boundaries.

But Falguni’s impact doesn’t end with the success of Nykaa. As a woman who built a billion-dollar business from the ground up, she is now using her platform to empower other women. Her story is not just about her personal success, but about creating an ecosystem where women can rise to positions of power, leadership, and equality. Falguni has become an advocate for women in business, pushing for greater representation in leadership roles and encouraging more women to take the leap into entrepreneurship.

Today, Falguni Nayar is more than just a successful businesswoman—she is a role model, an inspiration, and a catalyst for change in India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Her journey teaches us that success does not come from staying within the confines of comfort, but from daring to dream big and embracing the courage to step into the unknown.

In a world where women are still fighting for equal representation and opportunities, Falguni has shown that it is possible to break through barriers, create a meaningful impact, and build something truly transformative. Her legacy will continue to inspire generations of women to take charge of their futures and become the architects of their own success.

To everyone across India who ever had a dream, especially women with a dream, I hope the Nykaa journey—an Indian-born, Indian-owned and Indian-managed dream come true—can inspire each of you to be the Nykaa of your lives.

Suman Agarwal

Pioneering Image Consulting and Empowering Transformations

Suman Agarwal’s journey from a college dropout to becoming one of India’s leading businesswomen is a story of resilience, ambition, and vision. Today, she stands as a powerful force in the field of image consulting, inspiring countless individuals to enhance their personal and professional lives through the power of self-image and soft skills.

Her story begins at the age of 18 when she made a bold decision that would set the stage for everything to come. In a world where women were often expected to follow a more conventional path, Suman defied expectations and chose to step out of her comfort zone. “I was the first girl in my family to step out and be on my own,” she says. This brave decision to live independently and carve her own path was just the beginning of a remarkable journey.

While most people at her age were still figuring out their next steps, Suman was faced with a life-changing decision. By the age of 20, while many women were just beginning to navigate their careers, Suman was already preparing for motherhood and trying to balance the responsibilities of a young family with the ambitious aspirations she held for herself. Despite the personal challenges, her intuition and relentless drive kept her focused on the bigger picture. “I am very intuitive, and I follow my intuition very religiously,” she explains—a principle that has guided her through many pivotal moments in her life.

After her early career as a college dropout, Suman’s professional journey took an unexpected turn when she joined Jet Airways in 1996. There, she honed her skills in customer service and grooming standards, which eventually led her to a managerial role at one of India’s prominent training companies. Despite these accomplishments, Suman’s desire for independence and a career aligned with her passion for personal growth led her to embark on an entrepreneurial venture.

In 2009, Suman founded the Image Consulting Business Institute (ICBI), a groundbreaking institute that would change the way India viewed professional training. With a vision to introduce soft skills training to a nation that largely prioritized hard skills,

she identified a gap in the market. The ability to communicate effectively, present oneself confidently, and manage one’s image had always been seen as secondary in professional circles. Suman set out to change this narrative by providing individuals with the tools they needed to succeed, not just through technical expertise, but through the art of self-presentation and soft skills development.

ICBI quickly gained traction as the premier institution for image consultants and soft skills trainers. The institute offers comprehensive training programs designed to help individuals and organizations refine their professional personas and navigate the complexities of modern business environments. Under Suman’s leadership, ICBI became one of the leading brands in its field, transforming the lives of thousands of professionals across India.

In 2011, Suman’s expertise and influence in the field of image consulting were recognized on a global scale when she became the senior-most image consultant in the Indian sub-continent. That year, she was honored with the prestigious Image Master Award by the Federation of Image Professionals International, UK, cementing her status as one of the foremost leaders in the image consulting industry. This recognition not only validated her hard work and dedication but also solidified her position as a trailblazer for women in business.

In addition to her work with ICBI, Suman’s influence extends into the professional community through her role as the President of the Image Management Professional Association (IMPA). This association brings together image consultants and soft skills trainers, providing them with a platform for professional development and networking. Through her leadership, Suman continues to push the boundaries of image management, advocating for a more holistic approach to professional growth that incorporates both technical skills and the art of personal branding.

Suman Agarwal’s entrepreneurial journey is not just a story of personal success; it is a testament to the power of perseverance and vision. By recognizing the importance of soft skills and self-image in a competitive business landscape, she created a space where individuals could thrive professionally and personally. Today, her influence can be seen in the thousands of image consultants and soft skills trainers she has mentored and certified, helping them build fulfilling careers that make a difference in the world.

Suman’s story is a powerful reminder that success is not defined by conventional paths or traditional measures of achievement. It is about following one’s intuition, taking risks, and persevering through challenges. Her remarkable journey continues to inspire countless women and entrepreneurs to embrace their potential, challenge the status quo, and make an impact in the world. Through her work with ICBI and beyond, Suman Agarwal is truly helping shape the future of image consulting and professional development in India and beyond.

I am very intuitive, and I follow my intuition very religiously.

Kiran Mazumdar Shaw

A Trailblazer in Biotechnology and Entrepreneurship

Kiran Mazumdar Shaw is a name that resonates with innovation, perseverance, and global recognition in the field of biotechnology. As the Chairperson and Managing Director of Biocon Ltd., India’s premier biotechnology company, Kiran has not only redefined the business landscape but has also shattered glass ceilings, emerging as India’s first-ever self-made female billionaire.

Her journey to success is a testament to resilience and an unwavering belief in her vision. Born in India, Kiran initially pursued a Master’s Degree in Malting and Brewing from Melbourne University. However, her return to India was met with gender-based discrimination, as the brewing industry, at the time, was predominantly male-dominated. Despite her qualifications, Kiran was turned away from opportunities that were open to her male counterparts. Yet, rather than being discouraged, she channeled her energy into a different, more uncharted field— biotechnology.

In 1978, at the age of 25, Kiran founded Biocon India with a modest seed capital of Rs. 10,000, starting out in the garage of her Bangalore home. The venture’s initial focus was on producing enzymes, a key ingredient in the food and beverage industry. But Kiran had bigger aspirations. Despite the numerous challenges posed by the country’s underdeveloped infrastructure and technological limitations, she was

Success is not determined by gender but by vision, determination, and the willingness to break down barriers.

determined to position India on the global map of biopharmaceuticals.

One of the pivotal moments in Kiran’s career came when a multinational pharmaceutical company doubted India’s ability to produce biologic products that could meet global standards. Kiran, fueled by a desire to prove the world wrong, took this challenge head-on. Under her leadership, Biocon evolved from a small enzyme-producing company to a fully integrated biopharma giant, developing innovative biologic products that would eventually have a global impact.

Kiran’s unwavering focus on quality and innovation paid off as Biocon became one of India’s leading biotechnology companies, pioneering advancements in insulin production, cancer therapy, and other critical areas in biopharmaceuticals. Today, Biocon is a recognized name in the global healthcare industry, providing affordable treatment options for various life-threatening diseases.

While her professional accomplishments speak volumes, Kiran has also used her success as a platform for philanthropy. In 2004, she established the Biocon Foundation, an initiative aimed at addressing healthcare challenges, especially in underserved communities. Through her foundation, Kiran has worked tirelessly to improve access to healthcare and empower underprivileged populations, ensuring that her success impacts society in meaningful ways.

Kiran’s entrepreneurial journey has been far from easy. As a woman in a male-dominated field, she faced countless challenges and skepticism. However, she never allowed these hurdles to define her. In

fact, Kiran has often spoken about the credibility challenges she faced as a woman entrepreneur, emphasizing the need to build one’s reputation through competence and perseverance. Her own journey is a powerful reminder that success is not determined by gender but by vision, determination, and the willingness to break down barriers.

In recognition of her immense contributions to the biotech sector, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw has earned numerous accolades over the years. In 2019, Forbes named her the 65th most powerful woman in the world. She has been awarded prestigious honors such as the Padma Shri in 1989 and the Padma Bhushan in 2005, acknowledging her exceptional leadership and philanthropic work.

Today, Kiran stands as one of the most influential figures in global biotechnology, a role model for women entrepreneurs, and a visionary leader who has redefined what it means to be a successful businesswoman. Her story is an inspiration to many, proving that with passion, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to one’s goals, any obstacle can be overcome. Through Biocon and her philanthropic work, Kiran continues to shape the future of healthcare and biotechnology, leaving a legacy of innovation and empowerment that will impact generations to come.

I always believe that innovation is key to success, and we must never stop challenging ourselves to break new ground

Richa Kar Pioneering Change in India’s Lingerie Industry

Richa Kar, the founder and CEO of Zivame, has revolutionized the way women in India shop for lingerie, breaking down taboos and making it easier than ever for women to shop for intimate wear in a comfortable and private setting. Her entrepreneurial journey is a testament to the power of innovation, determination, and challenging societal norms.

Before 2011, lingerie shopping in India was far from a simple task. The process was fraught with discomfort, embarrassment, and societal pressure. Women often felt awkward purchasing something as basic as undergarments due to the stigma surrounding the topic. It was in this environment that Richa Kar recognized a gap in the market and set out to change the way Indian women viewed lingerie shopping.

Her journey to founding Zivame began during her earlier years when she was working for companies like Spencers and SAP. It was during this time that she had a chance encounter with a client connected to Victoria’s Secret, a conversation that would serve as the catalyst for her groundbreaking idea. Through her interaction, Richa became acutely aware of the untapped potential in the lingerie market and the challenges women faced when trying to purchase intimate wear in India. This moment sparked a “eureka” realization: the country needed a platform where women could shop for lingerie online, at their convenience, without fear of judgment.

However, the road to starting Zivame was not easy. Despite her newfound vision, Richa faced significant opposition, particularly from her own family. Her parents, concerned about the societal stigma and the unconventional nature of her business idea, were hesitant to support her. But Richa was determined to follow her passion. She took the leap and started her business from a small office space in 2011, armed with nothing but her vision and entrepreneurial spirit. The idea was simple: offer women an easy, discreet, and comfortable way to shop for lingerie, along with personalized fitting and styling advice, all from the comfort of their homes.

In the early days, many people doubted the viability of Richa’s concept. But she was undeterred by the naysayers. She worked tirelessly to build her brand, understanding that it would take time to change mindsets and establish trust in the online shopping experience for intimate wear. Her persistence paid off. Faye D’Souza

Redefining Journalism in the Digital Age

In an era where news is often clouded by sensationalism, biased opinions, and misinformation, Faye D’Souza stands as a beacon of integrity, offering a refreshing approach to journalism. Known for her unflinching commitment to delivering reliable, unadulterated news, Faye has carved a niche for herself as one of India’s most respected independent journalists. Her journey, from traditional media to becoming an influential digital voice, has redefined how news is consumed, especially among the millennial generation.

Faye’s career began in the most traditional of ways. While still a student, she started her journalistic journey with All India Radio, where

she quickly honed her reporting skills. She moved into the world of finance journalism, where she covered crucial economic stories, eventually joining the Times Network in 2008. Her talent and dedication to her craft led her to become the executive editor at Mirror Now, a role that placed her in the spotlight.

However, despite a flourishing career in mainstream media, Faye felt the growing constraints of the traditional news format. In 2019, she made a bold decision to leave her well-established role at Mirror Now. Her decision was driven by a deep-seated desire for journalistic freedom. As she put it, she wanted the independence to choose what she believed was right, not dictated by commercial pressures or the editorial direction of a corporate-backed network.

Leaving a reputable position at the peak of her career was not easy, though. Faye struggled with anxiety and mild depression after stepping away from her stable job, grappling with the uncertainties of forging her own path. But rather than letting fear control her future, Faye confronted her challenges head-on. She sought therapy, worked through her emotional battles, and eventually emerged stronger and more determined than ever. In 2020, she launched her independent news platform on Instagram, where she began to deliver news in her signature, no-nonsense style.

Faye’s platform isn’t just another news channel; it’s a movement. She sought to dismantle the sensationalist formats that have taken over Indian media, reclaiming the essence of what news should be— fact-driven, clear, and free of spin. By choosing to work independently, without a media team or corporate backing, Faye has taken complete control of the news she shares. Her content cuts through the clutter of today’s media landscape, focusing solely on issues that matter, from politics to social justice, and always prioritizing information over opinion.

Her Instagram account has become a popular destination for millions seeking honest, concise, and thoughtful news. In an era where news is often

manipulated for clicks and views, Faye’s content is a rare exception—offering her audience not only the facts but also an understanding of the bigger picture. She’s built a community of viewers who appreciate the clarity and depth she brings to each story.

Faye’s approach to journalism is grounded in her firm belief that news plays a vital role in shaping public discourse, and therefore it should not be diluted for entertainment or profit. She believes that the sensationalist style of many mainstream news outlets poses a danger to democracy, as it misleads the public and fuels division. Faye’s mission is not just to disrupt the status quo but to completely dismantle the media models that, in her view, compromise the dignity of news.

By using her platform to challenge the very foundation of modern journalism, Faye has proven that it’s possible to balance independence with responsibility. She doesn’t just deliver news—she’s actively engaged in redefining how news should be shared in the digital age. Her transparent and fearless approach has made her one of the most influential voices in Indian journalism today.

Faye D’Souza’s journey is a powerful reminder that with determination, authenticity, and a clear sense of purpose, one can transform an industry. Her story is not just about leaving behind a corporate career to become an independent journalist; it is about reclaiming the integrity of news and creating a platform where truth can thrive. In a time when information is so easily manipulated, Faye’s commitment to honest, reliable journalism has made her a trailblazer for future generations of journalists.

News should be fact-driven, clear, and free of spin—journalism must serve the truth, not sensationalism.

Shradha Sharma Empowering Entrepreneurs and Shaping India’s Startup Landscape

In a world where stories often get lost in the noise, Shradha Sharma found a way to amplify the voices of entrepreneurs, innovators, and disruptors. As the founder of YourStory, India’s leading platform for startup stories, Shradha has created an ecosystem that celebrates the spirit of entrepreneurship and has become a go-to resource for those who dream of building something big.

Shradha’s journey to founding YourStory in 2008 was not a conventional one. Born and raised in Patna, a small town in India, Shradha’s path was not without its challenges. She was often judged for her accent and the way she spoke, something that became a source of self-doubt early in her career. Despite these obstacles, she was determined to carve a place for herself in the world of journalism and media.

After completing her Masters in History, Shradha furthered her education in Design Management from MICA, Ahmedabad, a prestigious institute that would later play a significant role in shaping her career. Her early years as a journalist at CNBC TV18 gave her invaluable insights into the business world, but it was her growing interest in startups and entrepreneurs that truly ignited her passion. While working at CNBC TV18 and later as a Brand Advisor at The Times of India, Shradha recognized that there was a gap

in the media landscape when it came to the stories of entrepreneurs—particularly those from India’s nascent startup ecosystem.

With a vision in mind, Shradha started writing about these entrepreneurs on a simple blog. She didn’t have a business model or a clear strategy at first, but what she did have was remarkable content—a treasure trove of inspiring stories about people doing extraordinary things. Her blog quickly caught the attention of many, gaining traction across India. This small initiative would eventually evolve into YourStory Media Pvt. Ltd., a platform that today has published over 40,000 stories and become the largest resource for startup news, funding information, and entrepreneurial resources in India.

YourStory has since become a vital part of India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, featuring stories of early-stage startups, their struggles, their successes, and the people behind them. The platform has attracted investment from some of the most well-known names in business, including Ratan Tata, T.V Mohandas Pai, and Vani Kola, who recognized the potential of Shradha’s vision.

But the road to success was far from easy. Shradha’s path was riddled with self-doubt and the constant need to prove herself. In one of her revealing podcasts, ‘Inner Reels,’ she opened up about how difficult it was for her, a small-town girl from Patna, to make her mark in the big city. The cultural differences, the judgments she faced for her accent, and the criticism about her style of communication were hard to ignore. But rather than being defeated, Shradha learned to embrace these challenges. She stopped seeking external validation and, instead, relied on her inner strength and belief in her vision. She pushed forward, relentlessly focused on building a platform that would uplift the voices of other entrepreneurs and give them the recognition they deserved.

Shradha’s story is not just about building a successful company; it is about the power of resilience and the courage to defy societal expectations. She has faced the struggles of being a woman entrepreneur in a male-dominated industry, but rather than backing down, she has taken these challenges head-on. Through her journey, Shradha has not only empowered countless entrepreneurs but also inspired a generation of women to embrace their own dreams and not be afraid to challenge the status quo.

As a role model and a mentor, Shradha encourages women to embrace their challenges, acknowledge their insecurities, and rise above them. She believes that women entrepreneurs have the power to make a lasting impact, and she actively advocates for the need for more women to lead and bring about change in the business world.

Today, YourStory stands as a testament to Shradha’s vision and perseverance. It is a

platform that celebrates entrepreneurs, inspires the next generation, and brings attention to the power of storytelling in shaping the future of business. Through her work, Shradha has demonstrated that with passion, purpose, and a relentless pursuit of your goals, anything is possible. She is not just telling the stories of others; she is living her own extraordinary story every day.

Entrepreneurs are the true disruptors, and their stories deserve to be heard, celebrated, and shared with the world.

Blending tradition with innovation is the key to creating something truly extraordinary.

Ritu Kumar, one of India’s most celebrated fashion designers, is a pioneer who helped shape the country’s modern fashion industry. Known for introducing the boutique culture to India, Ritu’s remarkable journey from a small-town girl to a globally recognized designer is a story of passion, perseverance, and innovation.

Born in Amritsar, Ritu’s early years were marked by her family’s relocation to Shimla, driven by the limited educational opportunities available in her hometown. After completing her studies in art history at Delhi, Ritu’s quest for knowledge led her to Briarcliff College in New York, where she pursued a scholarship. Little did she know that her time in New York would inspire a journey that would change the face of Indian fashion forever.

In the 1960s, when India was still emerging on the global fashion scene, Ritu Kumar’s entrepreneurial spirit was sparked by an encounter with a community of unemployed hand block printers in a small village in West Bengal. Recognizing the immense potential of their craft, she began sourcing beautifully printed sarees from these skilled artisans, creating stunning collections that she showcased at exhibitions and fairs across India. This was the humble beginning of what would become a revolution in Indian fashion.

Ritu’s deep appreciation for traditional craftsman-

ship led her to discover the embroidery masters of Ranihatis, which is now famously known as Zardosi. By working with these talented artisans, she fused traditional Indian techniques with contemporary design, giving birth to a unique blend of authenticity and luxury. Her work soon gained recognition for its intricate detailing, timeless elegance, and ability to bridge the gap between India’s rich heritage and modern fashion sensibilities. As the demand for her creations grew, Ritu Kumar opened numerous stores across India, bringing the boutique culture to the country. Her designs, particularly Indian bridal wear and handmade evening wear, quickly became synonymous with elegance and sophistication. Brides-tobe and fashion enthusiasts alike were drawn to her intricate craftsmanship and the timeless beauty of her collections.

In 2002, Ritu took a major step forward in her journey by launching the ‘Label’ brand in partnership with her son, Amrish Kumar. The label gained rapid popularity for its exquisite design and luxurious fabrics, and it further established Ritu as a leader in the Indian fashion industry. As her brand expanded, she introduced other labels such as Ri, Aarke, and Home, each targeting different aspects of Indian fashion and lifestyle. With the advent of the digital age, Ritu Kumar has adeptly embraced technology to stay relevant. In 2020, her website attracted over 18.5 lakh users, a testament to her ability to adapt to the evolving world of e-commerce. She has successfully translated her traditional designs into a modern digital platform, ensuring that her legacy continues to reach audiences across the globe.

Ritu’s contributions to the Indian fashion industry have been widely recognized. In 2013, she was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) for her outstanding efforts to elevate Indian fashion and promote its unique heritage. Her designs continue to be a dream for many Indian brides, with her lehengas, sarees, and bridal wear regarded as the epitome of Indian craftsmanship and luxury.

However, her journey from a fitness enthusiast to one of the country’s most sought-after trainers is an inspiring story of determination, passion, and self-discovery.

At the age of 18, Yasmin’s journey into fitness began not out of a desire to become a trainer, but rather to transform her own body. Struggling with a crooked physique,

she joined a local gym to improve her health and fitness. It was not just about working out for Yasmin; it was about discovering inner beauty, strength, and happiness, and she became obsessed with setting and achieving tough fitness goals.

As the founder and managing director of Kalaari Capital, Vani has not only built a name for herself in the highly competitive world of venture capital but has also become a role model for aspiring entrepreneurs, especially women looking to make their mark in traditionally male-dominated industries.

Vani’s story begins in Hyderabad, where she was one of only six girls among 400 engineering students pursuing a degree in electrical engineering. This early experience shaped her understanding of the challenges women face in male-dominated fields. Undeterred, Vani’s drive and determination set her apart from her peers, pushing her to excel in her studies and later in her professional career. Her journey from an engineering student to a Silicon Valley entrepreneur was a testament to her tenacity and belief in herself, even when the odds were stacked against her.

After completing her studies, Vani embarked on a remarkable 22-year career in Silicon Valley, working in the technology sector for nearly 12 years. Mehak Sagar

Transforming the Wedding Industry with WedMeGood

Mehak Sagar’s journey from a data modeller to the co-founder of one of India’s leading wedding planning platforms, WedMeGood, is a testament to the power of creativity, persistence, and seeing opportunities where others see challenges. Mehak’s path is a reflection of how life’s struggles can often be the very thing that sparks an entrepreneurial idea—an idea that, when nurtured with passion and hard work, can change an entire industry.

Mehak’s story begins in the corporate world. After completing her studies, she joined American Express as a data modeller, working in a more traditional, numbers-driven job. But Mehak always had a creative side, one that loved fashion, beauty, and the world of weddings. This interest led her to start her own blog, Peaches & Blushes, where she shared her insights on beauty and fashion. This was just the first step in what would become her entrepreneurial journey.

The turning point came when Mehak began planning her own wedding. Relocating to a new city, she faced challenges finding the right wedding venue, photographer, makeup artist, and vendors that could cater to her vision. The difficulty she encountered in navigating the wedding industry sparked an idea. She decided to write a blog post about her struggles, detailing the challenges she faced while trying to plan her wedding. To her surprise, the post resonated deeply with other brides-to-be who were facing similar frustrations.

In a startup, there are a million roadblocks that knock you down. It’s drive and perseverance that makes you get up, dust off your jeans, and drive with full force ahead.

This unexpected reaction from readers made Mehak realize that there was a significant gap in the market. At the time, India had very few online platforms that helped brides navigate the wedding planning process with ease. Seeing this as an opportunity, Mehak decided to leave her full-time job at American Express and venture into the world of entrepreneurship.

In 2014, WedMeGood was born. The platform aimed to bring convenience, transparency, and inspiration to the wedding planning process. However, like many entrepreneurs, Mehak quickly realized that starting a company wasn’t as easy as

it seemed. She lacked the technical knowledge about running a business, digital marketing, technology, and social media. But instead of being discouraged, Mehak dove headfirst into learning. She took it upon herself to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge, understanding that perseverance and self-learning were key to overcoming the hurdles she faced.

Mehak’s entrepreneurial spirit is encapsulated in her own words: “In a startup, there are a million roadblocks that knock you down. It’s drive and perseverance that makes you get up, dust off your jeans, and drive with full force ahead.” This mindset became the foundation of WedMeGood, which has since become a household name in the wedding industry.

Today, WedMeGood is not just a wedding planning platform but a vibrant community for brides and grooms to discover everything they need for their big day—from venues and vendors to inspiration, tips, and personal experiences. Mehak’s ability to understand her audience’s needs and build a platform that addressed them has been instrumental in the brand’s success. WedMeGood has transformed wedding planning in India, making it more accessible, organized, and enjoyable.

Mehak’s journey serves as a powerful inspiration to women, particularly those who feel uncertain about switching careers or taking the leap into entrepreneurship. Her story shows that with creativity, dedication, and the willingness to learn, anyone can make their dreams a reality. Through her work with WedMeGood, Mehak has not only revolutionized the wedding industry but has also proven that following your passion and trusting your instincts can lead to remarkable success.

With creativity, dedication, and the willingness to learn, anyone can make their dreams a reality.

From Teacher to Co-founder of BYJU’s, Revolutionizing Education

Divya Gokulnath’s journey from a young tutor to co-founding one of the world’s largest edtech companies, BYJU’s, is a story of passion, perseverance, and a deep commitment to transforming education. Her path into the world of education technology was unexpected but ultimately led to a career that would change the way millions of students across the globe learn.

Born and raised in Bangalore, Divya always had an interest in academics. After completing her graduation, she began preparing for the GREs, where she took private tutoring sessions with Byju Raveen-

dran, who would later become her husband and business partner. During these sessions, Divya’s curiosity and the thoughtful questions she asked about the material stood out. Byju, recognizing her potential, encouraged Divya to start teaching, and it was this encouragement that set the stage for her entrepreneurial journey.

At just 21 years old, Divya began teaching Maths, English, and Logical Reasoning in 2008. One of her earliest teaching experiences involved a class of 100 students, many of whom were only a couple of years younger than her. In an effort to be taken seriously as an instructor, Divya recalled, “I had to wear a saree to the class to look mature!” Despite the challenges of being a young teacher, Divya’s

commitment to her students and her natural ability to explain complex concepts helped her quickly gain respect and admiration from her students.

In 2011, Divya and Byju co-founded BYJU’s, with a vision to revolutionize the way students learn. Initially offering in-person education, the company took a significant step forward in 2015 with the launch of an online app that provided video lessons. Divya played a crucial role in these video lessons, becoming one of the faces of the company. Her ability to connect with students and explain topics in an engaging way helped BYJU’s rapidly grow in popularity.

Byju’s success is not just about revolutionizing the way students learn through technology—it is also about its commitment to creating job opportunities. Divya was instrumental in building a business that not only transformed education but also created more than 12,000 teaching jobs, many of which were filled by women. Through BYJU’s, women educators in India now teach students from all over the world, empowering both teachers and learners alike.

The real turning point for BYJU’s came during the COVID-19 pandemic, when traditional schools were forced to close. As schools around the world

struggled to find ways to continue educating students, BYJU provided free access to its educational content, reaching over 70 million students by September 2020. The company’s ability to adapt quickly and scale its online offerings made it a lifeline for students during a challenging time.

Divya’s message to aspiring women entrepreneurs is one of empowerment and inspiration. She acknowledges the challenges that women face in entrepreneurship but encourages women to seize the opportunities they have to create positive change. “There are very few women entrepreneurs,” she says, “and wherever you are today is a great opportunity to inspire many more women to look up to you and be like you.”

Today, BYJU’s stands as one of the largest and most successful edtech companies in the world, with millions of users across the globe. Divya Gokulnath’s journey is a testament to how passion, vision, and hard work can not only create a successful business but also change the landscape of education for the better. Her story is an inspiration to women everywhere who dream of making a difference and leaving their mark on the world.

Sudha Murty

The Woman Behind the Success of Infosys and a Life Dedicated to Service

Sudha Murty is a name that resonates not only with the story of one of India’s most successful business families but also with a life devoted to social service, education, and empowering the marginalized. As the wife of Narayan Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys, Sudha’s role in the creation of the global IT giant is often overshadowed by her own remarkable contributions, both as an entrepreneur and philanthropist.

In 1981, when Narayan Murthy had an idea to start Infosys, it was Sudha Murty who supported him in his dream. With a loan of Rs. 10,000, she helped him set the foundation

for what would become one of the world’s most successful IT companies. This act of faith in her husband’s vision was not just about financial support, but it was the beginning of Sudha’s life as a quiet yet powerful enabler of success. Today, Infosys stands as a multibillion-dollar company, and Sudha’s quiet strength behind it remains a testament to her character.

Before her role as a supportive partner to one of India’s most successful businessmen, Sudha Murty was breaking barriers on her own. In a time when the engineering profession was predominantly male, Sudha chose to become an electronics engineer, proving that women could excel in fields that were traditionally dominated by men. She was hired by TELCO (now Tata Motors) as its first female engineer, a groundbreaking moment in her

career. She became an example for many women in India to follow, showing that no career was off-limits based on gender.

But Sudha’s journey wasn’t just about professional achievements. Her passion for social service began during her time as a student when she experienced the harsh realities of gender inequality firsthand. In her engineering college, there were no toilets for women, a reflection of the male-dominated nature of her course and the lack of attention to women’s needs in public spaces. This early experience would go on to shape much of her philanthropic work.

Sudha Murty’s commitment to social change became evident through her role as the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, a position that allowed her to channel her desire to give back to society. Under her leadership, the Foundation has been involved in numerous initiatives aimed at improving education, healthcare, sanitation, and women’s empowerment. One of the most notable projects was her work with the Gates Foundation, where she helped build 16,000 toilets in rural areas with limited access to sanitation facilities, addressing a basic yet critical need.

Her contributions to society extend far beyond her professional life. Sudha Murty’s literary works, which include books about her real-life experienc-

es, showcase her deep understanding of human emotions and her ability to connect with people. Her books, which range from personal anecdotes about teaching her grandmother to read, to her work with Devadasis in Karnataka, reflect her empathy and desire to make a difference in the lives of others. She has written extensively about her experiences helping women stranded in the UAE, and the stories she shares shed light on the struggles of marginalized communities, urging society to take action.

In a world where women have often been expected to play secondary roles, Sudha Murty has shown that women can excel in all aspects of life—be it as a partner, an entrepreneur, or a social change-maker. Her journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, compassion, and a deep commitment to making the world a better place. Sudha Murty’s story is not just one of success, but of a woman who used her influence, education, and position to uplift those around her, all while remaining grounded and humble.

Through her work, Sudha Murty has proven that true leadership lies not just in personal success but in lifting others along the way. Her life’s work continues to inspire women and men alike to break barriers, challenge societal norms, and give back to the world in meaningful ways.

Navigating the Venture Capital Landscape as a Female Entrepreneur

The venture capital (VC) landscape is rapidly evolving, creating new opportunities and challenges for female entrepreneurs. As women increasingly step into entrepreneurship, they bring with them fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and often, a deep understanding of untapped markets. Yet, securing funding remains a challenge for many women, with female-led startups still receiving a fraction of global venture capital compared to their male counterparts. For women seeking to navigate the complexities of venture funding, understanding the current landscape, identifying supportive networks, and knowing how to best position their ideas are essential steps in attracting the investment needed to drive their vision forward.

Understanding the Venture Capital Landscape for Female Entrepreneurs

In recent years, the venture capital industry has been making strides toward diversity and inclusion, albeit slowly. Many investors are beginning to recognize that diversity in business leadership can lead to stronger, more resilient companies. Studies show that companies led by diverse teams tend to outperform their peers, yet female entrepreneurs continue to face significant funding gaps. This disparity often stems from biases—both conscious and unconscious—and a traditional investment culture that hasn’t always prioritized female-led innovation. For a female entrepreneur, understanding the mindset of investors and the current funding climate can be an advantage, allowing her to approach the process more strategically.

The good news is that more funds and initiatives are emerging that focus specifically on women-led ventures. These funds not only provide capital but also mentorship, networking opportunities, and resources tailored to the unique challenges women face in business. Understanding these options is crucial,

as these supportive spaces are valuable assets in a journey that can sometimes feel isolating.

Key Steps for Female Entrepreneurs Seeking Venture Funding

For women entrepreneurs, accessing venture funding requires a multi-faceted approach that includes rigorous planning, building a strong network, and cultivating the confidence to pitch their ideas assertively. Here are some essential steps to consider:

Crafting a Compelling Pitch with a Strong Narrative

Investors often make funding decisions based on a combination of data, intuition,

and connection to the story behind the business. Female entrepreneurs can leverage storytelling to not only showcase the profitability and growth potential of their venture but also to convey the personal motivation and vision driving their business. Creating a pitch that goes beyond numbers to connect emotionally with investors can be particularly effective, as it highlights both the passion behind the brand and the clear vision for its future.

When preparing a pitch, it’s important to address common concerns investors may have, such as scalability, market demand, and revenue projections. Presenting data that supports the business model is essential, but so is demonstrating a deep understanding of the target market and how the product or service fills a gap. Given that many women founders work on solutions in areas traditionally underserved by men—like health, wellness, or education—emphasizing how the business stands out in its space can resonate strongly with investors looking

for unique, socially impactful opportunities.

Researching Venture Capital Firms with a Focus on Diversity and Inclusion

Finding the right investor is just as important as securing the funding itself. As the venture capital industry diversifies, there is a growing number of firms that prioritize investing in women-led businesses. Many of these firms understand the unique barriers female entrepreneurs face and are therefore more likely to be receptive to female-focused solutions. For women entrepreneurs, identifying VC firms that have a track record of supporting female founders—or even have female partners—can significantly increase the chances of securing a positive funding experience.

Additionally, some VCs are now focused specifically on industries where female leadership is proving successful,

such as consumer goods, healthcare, and technology with a social impact. Connecting with these niche investors allows entrepreneurs to work with partners who understand their business model and believe in its potential.

Networking with Purpose and Building Relationships with Potential Investors

Networking is an essential component of securing venture funding, but for female entrepreneurs, targeted networking can be especially beneficial. Instead of casting a wide net, focusing on building relationships with investors, mentors, and advisors who understand the value of women-led businesses is often more effective. Purposeful networking can help build a strong support system of advocates who not only provide capital but can also offer advice, open doors to other investors, and introduce the business to broader markets.

Attending industry events, participating in female-focused entrepreneurship conferences, and joining women-in-business networks can be valuable strategies for connecting with investors who actively seek out female founders. Additionally, using social media platforms like LinkedIn to reach out to potential investors and establish connections can be highly effective in building visibility for both the entrepreneur and the business.

Leveraging Grants and Crowdfunding Platforms as Alternative Funding Sources

While venture capital is a powerful source of funding, it is not the only option available. Many female entrepreneurs are exploring grants and crowdfunding as alternative or supplementary sources of capital. Crowdfunding, in particular, has become a popular avenue for women-led businesses, as it allows founders to raise funds directly from consumers who believe in the product or service. This approach not only generates capital but also validates the business idea and builds a loyal customer base.

Grants targeted toward women entrepreneurs or specific industries (like technology or social impact) can also provide a funding boost without diluting equity. Several organizations and government bodies now offer grants aimed at empowering women in business, and these resources can often provide the initial capital needed to launch or grow a company.

Building Confidence and Overcoming Biases in the Investment Process

The venture capital landscape can sometimes feel intimidating, particularly for women who may face additional biases or feel underrepresented in male-dominated rooms. Developing confidence in pitching, negotiating, and sharing the business vision is essential for any founder. Women are often socialized to be more cautious about self-promotion and negotiation, yet these skills are crucial when seeking funding.

To build confidence, some female entrepreneurs find

Navigate debt wisely: prioritize, consolidate, liberate. “

it helpful to engage with mentors or coaches who specialize in venture capital and investor relations. Practicing the pitch, refining it based on feedback, and preparing for potential objections can help build a strong foundation for investor meetings. Additionally, joining communities or incubators focused on supporting women-led ventures can provide an empowering environment for growth and skill-building, helping female founders to approach the investment process with increased self-assurance.

Resources and Support for Female Entrepreneurs in the VC Space

The rise of female-focused investment funds, accelerators, and mentorship programs has opened new doors for women entrepreneurs in India and around the world. From VC firms that invest exclusively in women-led startups to government initiatives and global programs, resources that support female founders are more accessible than ever. Some initiatives provide not only capital but also mentorship, educational programs, and community support, all of which are invaluable for long-term success.

By

tapping into these resources, women entrepreneurs

can gain both the financial and strategic support needed to navigate the complexities of scaling a business. Programs that focus on empowering women in tech, social impact businesses, and innovation provide a tailored approach that aligns with the goals and challenges of female-led companies. These resources also build a network of like-minded entrepreneurs who can support one another and collaborate on shared goals.

The Future of Female Entrepreneurs in Venture Capital

The future is bright for women in entrepreneurship, with new funding avenues emerging that are explicitly designed to level the playing field. The venture capital landscape, though still evolving, is moving toward a more inclusive approach that values diverse perspectives and innovative solutions. Female entrepreneurs are proving time and again that they bring unique strengths to the table—whether in their ability to recognize underserved markets, their commitment to social impact, or their dedication to resilience and adaptability.

As more female entrepreneurs enter the venture capital space, their successes will continue to inspire others and pave the way for even greater equity in funding. The journey may still be challenging, but each successful female-led venture strengthens the foundation for future generations of women to thrive in business. By continuing to build networks, leverage supportive resources, and cultivate self-assurance, women entrepreneurs are well-equipped to make a lasting impact on the VC industry and the broader world of business. In doing so, they are not only funding their own visions but also setting the stage for a more inclusive and prosperous entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Breaking the Silence Women Addressing Taboo Health Issues

In recent years, female entrepreneurs and activists have been breaking down long-standing societal taboos, focusing on women’s health issues that were once considered too sensitive or uncomfortable to discuss. Menstrual health, PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), menopause, and other women’s health topics have historically been shrouded in silence, stigma, and lack of awareness. However, a growing wave of female-led startups, healthcare providers, and advocacy groups are tackling these issues head-on, empowering women to take charge of their health and creating spaces for open discussions. These entrepreneurs and activists are redefining the narrative around women’s health, offering innovative solutions and raising awareness for conditions that affect millions of women worldwide.

The Rise of Female Entrepreneurs in Women’s Health

Over the past decade, there has been a marked increase in female entrepreneurs focusing on health-related startups aimed specifically at addressing women’s needs. These ventures have helped shed light on issues like menstrual health, PCOS, menopause, and mental health, all of which have been historically overlooked or misunderstood in mainstream medicine. Female entrepreneurs are uniquely positioned to approach these issues with empathy, innovation, and a deep understanding of the challenges women face, which often leads to more inclusive, accessible, and effective solutions.

Many of these entrepreneurs come from diverse backgrounds, including healthcare, technology, and design. They leverage their expertise to create businesses that focus on providing better healthcare products, services, and educational resources for women. These startups aim to improve the overall quality of women’s health, making products such as menstrual hygiene solutions, fertility trackers, and menopause

management tools more accessible and socially acceptable.

The impact of these businesses extends beyond just product innovation. These companies are also leading the charge in shifting public perception, particularly around taboo health topics. They are creating spaces where women can talk openly about their health, share experiences, and support each other. These platforms have become essential sources of information, offering guidance, education, and solidarity for women navigating health issues that were once stigmatized or considered “embarrassing.”

Tackling Menstrual Health: Breaking the Silence Around Periods

One of the most profound areas where female entrepreneurs and activists have made a significant impact is in the realm of menstrual health. For centuries, menstruation has been seen as a taboo subject, with women often forced to hide their natural bodily functions. Cultural and social stigmas around

periods have contributed to a lack of awareness, education, and proper access to menstrual products, leading to poor health outcomes and even societal exclusion for many women.

Female-led startups in the menstrual health space are actively working to normalize the conversation around periods, making it easier for women to discuss their needs without embarrassment. These businesses are not only focused on providing sustainable and innovative menstrual products—such as organic cotton pads, menstrual cups, and reusable period underwear—but also on advocating for policy changes that support menstrual health in schools, workplaces, and public spaces.

In addition to providing products, many of these entrepreneurs are also creating platforms to educate women on menstrual health, such as apps that track cycles, offer advice on managing symptoms, and connect users with healthcare professionals. These platforms are helping to demystify menstruation, provide personalized advice, and build a sense of community for women to openly discuss their experiences.

By breaking the silence around menstruation, these initiatives are empowering women to take charge of their health and promoting a deeper understanding of menstrual health that can lead to improved overall well-being.

PCOS Awareness: Addressing a Common but Overlooked Condition

PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) is another health issue that has long been misunderstood and underreported. Affecting up to 1 in 10 women of reproductive age, PCOS is a hormonal condition that can lead to a variety of symptoms, including irregular periods, infertility, weight gain, and excessive hair growth. Despite its prevalence, many women with PCOS are not diagnosed un-

til later in life, and there is often a lack of awareness around its causes, symptoms, and potential long-term health effects.

Female entrepreneurs have been at the forefront of raising awareness about PCOS, developing resources and products to help women manage their condition. Startups are offering fertility tracking tools, dietary supplements, and lifestyle management programs specifically tailored for women with PCOS. Many of these businesses also focus on providing education about the condition, helping women to better understand the role of hormones in their health and how lifestyle changes can help manage symptoms.

In addition to health products, entrepreneurs are leveraging social media, blogs, and online communities to create spaces for women to share their PCOS journeys. These platforms allow women to find support, share advice, and connect with others who understand the challenges of living with PCOS. Through these efforts, female-led initiatives are creating a more informed and empowered community of women who are able to manage their condition with greater confidence and clarity.

Menopause: Redefining the Narrative Around Aging

Another area where women are making significant strides is in addressing the health concerns of women experiencing menopause. Menopause is often viewed as a natural part of aging, but it is rarely discussed openly in society, leading many women to feel isolated or unprepared for the physical and emotional changes they experience. Symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, and sleep disturbances can significantly impact a woman’s quality of life, yet many women suffer in silence, unsure of where to turn for support.

In recent years, female entrepreneurs have taken the lead in creating businesses that focus on menopause and peri-menopause. These companies are developing products like natural supplements, hormone replacement therapies (HRT), and skincare solutions that help women manage symptoms and maintain their health during this life transition. They are also creating educational content to help women understand what to expect during menopause, how to manage the symptoms, and how to embrace this stage of life as an opportunity for self-care and empowerment.

Alongside these products, online commu-

nities and forums focused on menopause are helping women share their experiences and find emotional support during a time that can often feel isolating. These platforms offer a safe space for women to discuss their symptoms, seek advice from peers, and find healthcare professionals who are knowledgeable about menopause and its impact on health. This open dialogue helps to shift the narrative around menopause, moving it from a taboo subject to one that is understood, accepted, and supported.

Advocacy and Activism: Changing Societal Perceptions

Beyond startups, female activists and advocacy groups have been instrumental in addressing taboo health issues. Many of these women have worked tirelessly to create awareness campaigns, challenge societal norms, and advocate for policy changes that support women’s health. They have lobbied for better access to healthcare, greater representation in medical research, and the removal of cultural barriers that prevent women from seeking

the help they need.

Through these efforts, women have not only contributed to transforming healthcare practices but have also played a vital role in changing cultural attitudes towards women’s health. Their work is helping to reduce stigma, increase understanding, and empower women to prioritize their health without fear or shame.

The growing wave of female-led startups, entrepreneurs, and activists addressing taboo women’s health issues is changing the landscape of healthcare and empowering women to take control of their well-being. By breaking the silence around issues such as menstrual health, PCOS, and menopause, these women are leading the charge in dismantling the stigma and creating solutions that improve the lives of millions of women around the world. With continued innovation, education, and advocacy, the future is bright for women’s health, as these leaders work to ensure that every woman can live her healthiest life, free from silence or shame.

• Credit Card Points: Many travel credit cards offer points for every purchase. These points can be transferred to airline and hotel partners for greater flexibility.

• Hotel Points: Hotel chains like Marriott Bonvoy and Hilton Honors reward you with points for stays, which can be redeemed for free nights or upgrades.

2. Maximizing Your Earning Potential

To maximize rewards:

• Sign-Up Bonuses: Take advantage of lucrative sign-up bonuses offered by credit cards. Meeting the minimum spending requirements can quickly boost your points balance.

• Everyday Spending: Use reward-earning credit cards for daily expenses like groceries and dining. Some cards offer higher rewards in specific categories, so use them strategically.

Experiencing Luxury

Travel

on a Budget Luxury travel doesn’t have to come with a hefty price tag. With the right approach, you can enjoy high-end experiences without breaking the bank.

1. Affordable Luxury Accommodations

Here’s how to enjoy luxury stays for less:

• Use Points for Free Nights: Hotel loyalty programs like Marriott Bonvoy and Hilton Honors allow you to redeem points for free stays. Utilize credit card sign-up bonuses to quickly accumulate enough points.

• Hotel Credit Cards: Many hotel-branded credit cards provide perks like complimentary elite status, room upgrades, and free breakfasts. These benefits can transform your stay into a luxurious experience without extra cost.

• Book Off-Peak: Luxury hotels often have lower rates during offpeak times. Combine this with a free night certificate or points redemption to maximize value.

2. Finding Discounted First-Class Flights

Flying first or business class can be affordable with these tips:

• Upgrade with Points: Many airlines allow you to use points to upgrade from economy to business or first class. This is often the best value for your points.

• Fare Sales: Keep an eye on fare sales through sites like Scott’s Cheap Flights or The Points Guy, which highlight discounted premium cabin fares.

• Bid for Upgrades: Some airlines offer bidding options for upgrades to first class. You can often secure a seat at a fraction of the full fare.

• Companion Passes: Certain airlines and credit cards offer companion passes, allowing you to book a second ticket for free or at a reduced rate.

Mastering the Art of Travel Hacking

Travel hacking involves advanced techniques that can make travel exceptionally affordable. Here’s how to refine your skills.

1. Credit Card Optimization

Optimize your credit card use:

• Choose the Right Cards: Select cards that offer generous sign-up bonuses, travel perks, and high rewards rates in categories you spend the most on.

• Maximize Sign-Up Bonuses: Earn points quickly by meeting the minimum spending requirements for bonus offers. This can significantly boost your rewards balance.

• Transfer Points: Cards like Chase Ultimate Rewards and Amex Membership Rewards allow you to transfer points to airline and hotel partners, often providing better value.

2. Booking Award Travel

Efficiently use your points and miles:

• Search Early: Award availability often opens 11 months in advance. Booking early can help you secure the best deals.

• Be Flexible: Flexibility with your travel dates can uncover lower points requirements and better availability.

• Use Search Engines: Tools like AwardHacker and ExpertFlyer can help you find the best redemption options for your points.

• Leverage Alliances: Many airlines are part of global alliances, allowing you to redeem points on partner airlines for greater flexibility.

3. Advanced Techniques

Elevate your travel hacking skills:

• Manufactured Spending: This involves using credit cards to purchase items like gift cards and then liquidating them to earn points. Ensure this aligns with your credit card terms to avoid complications.

• Mileage Runs: Book flights solely to earn miles or achieve elite status. Although this can be extreme, the benefits of elite status, such as upgrades and bonus miles, can be substantial.

• Hotel Hopping: For maximizing hotel points, consider booking short stays at multiple properties to earn additional points.

To further enhance your travel hacking skills, leveraging the right platforms for booking flights and accommodations is key. In addition to using points and miles, savvy travelers rely on popular booking websites to find the best deals on both flights and hotels. Here’s how to incorporate these tools into your travel strategy.

Booking Flights with Ease

In the digital age, finding affordable flights has never been easier. These platforms are essential for securing the best airfare deals:

• Google Flights: Known for its easy interface and powerful search engine, Google Flights lets you compare prices across multiple airlines. The tool offers flexible date searches, price tracking, and route alerts, making it indispensable for finding low-cost flights. It also highlights cheaper travel dates with a helpful calendar view.

• Skyscanner: This flight comparison site searches through multiple airlines and online travel agents to present a comprehensive list of flight options. Skyscanner is particularly useful for travelers who have flexible dates, allowing you to see the cheapest time to fly within a given month.

• Kayak: Another powerful comparison tool, Kayak also offers “Hacker Fares” — which combines two one-way tickets from different airlines for a lower price. It also provides price trend data and fare alerts to help you buy tickets at the right time.

• Booking with Points: Don’t forget to check airlines’ own websites when booking award flights with points. Platforms like Emirates, Qatar Airways, Saudia Airlines and American Airlines often have better award seat availability when booking directly through their portals.

Using Booking.com for Hotel Deals

For hotel stays, Booking.com is one of the most popular platforms, offering a wide range of options from budget accommodations to luxury hotels. Here’s how to use it effectively:

• Exclusive Discounts: Booking.com often offers exclusive deals that are not available on other platforms, including early booking discounts, last-minute offers, and member-only prices if you sign up for their Genius loyalty program.

• Flexible Cancellation: Many hotels on Booking.com provide flexible cancellation policies, giving you peace of mind if your travel plans change. You can filter your searches to prioritize properties with free cancellation.

• Customer Reviews: One of the strengths of Booking.com is its extensive collection of verified customer reviews. By reading through these, you can make more informed decisions about where to stay.

• Earn Rewards: While not a traditional points program, Booking. com partners with certain credit cards to offer additional rewards for bookings made on the platform, including cashback and extra points.

Other Essential Hotel and Travel Booking Websites

• Hotels.com: A favorite for those who prefer traditional hotel stays, Hotels.com offers a loyalty program where you earn a free night for every 10 nights booked. Their rewards program is a simple way to accrue savings on future stays, and their price match guarantee ensures you’re getting the best deal.

luxury villas. For long-term travelers, many hosts offer discounts for weekly or monthly stays.

Integrating These Platforms with Travel Hacking

To optimize your travel hacking efforts, you can use a combination of these platforms alongside points and miles strategies. For example:

• Track prices on Google Flights and combine a cash fare with a points upgrade to fly first class at a fraction of the cost.

• Use Booking.com or Hotels.com to find luxury hotels that participate in loyalty programs, then redeem points or use credit card rewards to book free or discounted stays.

• Combine your hotel booking with a booking.com Genius discount and credit card travel points to maximize your savings.
