I cannot believe this year is almost gone. We are in the time of Thanksgiving and swiftly entering Advent, with the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What a wonderful time of year! Our Thanksgiving Banquet celebrates that we are back together and encourages the resumption of the Neighbor Groups we had to suspend during COVID. It will also celebrate our Church as family, which is in keeping with our year-long theme of Jubilee. We have the Advent Devotional books prepared for your family to use; they will be available first at our Thanksgiving banquet. This year’s devotionals were written by four of our members: Mrs. Carolyn Newberry, Mr. Ryan Chitwood, Rev. Daniel Potter, and Mrs. Lea Ciuba. These devotionals have been prepared in love and are filled with daily blessings for you to share as a family or use individually throughout the Advent Season. I am so excited about the musical events during Advent. Our marvelous choir will present From the Realms of Glory: A Christmas Musical Experience Sunday evening, December 11. at 6:00. This program will involve instrumentalists and singers in the celebration of the Christmas season. Our musical events are always a meaningful part of Christmas and present to us a great opportunity to invite others to join us. Come and bring a friend! Sunday evening December 18 at 6:00, we will enjoy a Musical Family Christmas. This will include our Children’s and Preschool choirs along with other fun and beautiful musical surprises. It will be an evening for your entire family and your friends. It will have the feeling of an old-fashioned Christmas program with some modern twists. Of course, a favorite tradition of the Christmas season is the Christmas Eve services. This year we will have one at 3:30 P.M. in the sanctuary and the other at 6:00 P.M. in the sanctuary. As is our custom, we will celebrate with music, Communion, and candlelight. When I look back over the years I have been a part of this wonderful Church Family, I always linger in my memories when I think of the Christmas Eve services. We have generations of people who have shared the experience and who continue to come each year - some from quite a distance - just to attend the services. Christmas Eve is on Saturday, making Christmas Day on Sunday. We will combine all the usual Sunday morning events that day into one 11:00 A.M. worship service. It will not be televised, so the service will not be as long as usual and will be a great deal less formal. Your family can get up on Christmas Day, begin your festivities, come to worship, and be home in time for Christmas lunch.

I truly love this time of year, and I love sharing this time with you as our Church Family. May God bless you as you make room for these special events and times on your calendars. I do hope you will share this news with others, encouraging them to come and see what makes a service at First Baptist such a memorable experience. Your Pastor, Jimmy

This week we head to Daniel 6 and a time when God’s people were in captivity. Even in a foreign land that didn’t worship God, Daniel was known for faithfully praying to God. When the leaders tried to trap him and have him killed, Daniel had courage and continued to honor God despite what could happen to him. Unfortunately, Daniel was caught and thrown into the lions’ den - but God was with him and protected him by shutting the lions’ mouths. Bottom line: You can do what you should because God is with you. Sometimes a kid might feel like they’re the only one of their friends who’s choosing to do what’s right. Moments like these can take a huge amount of courage. As kids learn how Daniel trusted God and found courage to do the right thing, they’ll remember God is always with them, too. God can give them the strength and courage they need to keep making wise choices, no matter what others may do - or not do.

Each Wednesday, I have the privilege to lead our 1st-5th grade boys in Royal Ambassadors, or as we know it, RAs. Weekly, we pray for, learn about, and experience missions in action. We travel around the world and to the 50 states in the USA, while developing a Biblical worldview. Through our Royal Ambassadors, boys are led to an awareness of their responsibility to Christ and encouraged to become His ambassadors. If you know of a potential RA, please invite him to join us or offer to bring him Wednesdays at 6:45 P.M. #firstonmission #royalambasadors #prayforourmissionaries

YOUTH MINISTRY (dpotter@firstbaptistcolumbusga.com)

As we head fully into this happy season of Thanksgiving, I would be remiss to not celebrate and give thanks for all the many adults who make what we do as a Youth Family possible. You all have shown up in so many ways to give these young people a wealth of opportunities to grow in their faith, to love one another, and to be the hands and feet of Christ touching the world. Riders, drivers, teachers, mentors, friends, chaperons, prayer warriors, and all sorts of contributors: we give thanks to God as we consider your gifts of time, talent, and love. We love you and are so very grateful for you!

EDUCATION MINISTRY (mdouglas@firstbaptistcolumbusga.com) How excited are you to tell a friend or even an acquaintance about a new experience, event, or shopping venue? I would guess that we speak often of these things. Because we had a good experience, we want to share the joy it brought. Now let’s take that thought and carry it forward to our family of faith. When was the last time you told someone about the joy, encouragement, inspiration and love you experience in Bible study, worship and fellowship at First Baptist. I challenge each of us to be more intentional in our sharing and to commit to inviting others to join us. Each week (day), we should be encouraging friends, acquaintances, and our fellow members to join us as we seek the face of Jesus the Christ. I’ll do better; and, hopefully, you will too. Blessings. THE FOOD CLOSET NEEDS OUR HELP TO PROVIDE CHRISTMAS ITEMS FOR ITS CLIENTS Please bring canned sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce; gravy mix, dressing mix, and pasta sauce; bite-sized candies; and fabric bags to the church office Monday - Thursday 9 A.M to 4 P.M.

CITY MINISTRY (secondstoryfbc@gmail.com) [Brandon Strozier]

This past Saturday, November 12, members of Second Story gathered at Hill-Watson Funeral Home to grieve and celebrate the life of Eric Thomas. Eric's best friend was Jay, the father of a Second Story student. Eric and Jay loved playing basketball, so they began joining us for Second Story open gym at the YAB in the summer of 2021. They would often talk about how hard it was to hang with the young men in the gym; but they would try their best and spent much of their time mentoring the young adults they competed against. Eric was a quiet but steady presence and an outspoken Christian. He passed away suddenly last week. Since his passing, we have all learned so much more about him - how great a man he was and how much his family adored him. But one thing we didn't learn because we knew: that he was a faithful Christian. We are so thankful for adults like Eric that walk side-by-side with our young adults during this vital time in their lives, and we celebrate his life.

MUSIC MINISTRY (kfranklin@firstbaptistcolumbusga.com)

As we enter this time of thanksgiving, I am grateful for the loving people we serve at FBC. You constantly encourage me and give great ideas for worship. I am grateful for Janie Lee, Nancy, and Ksenia for their talents and worship leadership. I am grateful for a wonderful and dedicated choir that leads us every Sunday in worship of our Savior. I am grateful for my family that lifts me up and blesses me all the time. Thank you to my church family, and thanks be to God.
