FROM THE PRINCIPAL
At the heart of our mission as a school community is the goal of unearthing the extraordinary in every student. We encourage them to learn deeply and avidly about life, about themselves, and about what they can contribute to the wider world. The extraordinary is waiting to be discovered within each of our girls. For some it is close to the surface. For others, it needs to be teased, challenged or provoked to flourish. Our school community creates the opportunity for every student to try everything; to participate not only in the domains which are their perceived strengths, but in others where they might not have imagined they would have something to offer. At Fintona, we strive to provide many and varied opportunities, enabling each student to find their voice and express their thoughts forthrightly, cogently, thought-provokingly. We empower them to be active in shaping not only their own paths but the direction and character of our school. Our girls are encouraged to lead, and they do, including in small yet powerful ways, by contributing to conversations, offering their own views, and considering others’ viewpoints.
Our learning environment is full of opportunities for students to explore, question, challenge, discover alternative readings, and create their own interpretations of the world. Programs are designed to enable students to participate, experiment and experience the joy of learning. Each student is encouraged to listen, to observe and to validate those around them. We believe that the extraordinary emerges in an environment where our girls feel they belong, they are known, and where they are accepted for who they are. 1 Our close community fosters lively, supportive and real connections, within the school and beyond. It is through being true to herself, being dynamic, curious, fearless and intelligent, that a Fintona girl unearths her own manifestation of the extraordinary self that lies within her. As she expresses these qualities and shares them with others, she can impact the world in profound ways. Our rich history tells us that Fintona girls move out into the world beyond school, with confidence and maturity, expressing the extraordinary in everyday life, contributing to the wellbeing of our society, and making a profound difference to the lives of others.
