THAT THING WE FORGOT
This year’s structure asked each House to create a performance that showed a world where a now forgotten and previously important human invention became necessary to rediscover. Representatives from the society travel back in time to search for the creator of the invention and to learn how it works in the hope that they can save their own world.
The House Captains selected a significant human invention at random from the House Drama hat. The House selections were:
· Boyne Television
· Clarke Antibiotics
· Hughston Paper
· Maxwell Artificial Intelligence
· Murdoch Control of Fire
· Ower Electricity
Welcome to Fintona’s House Drama performance for 2024, The Thing We Forgot.
What a fantastic way to end the year for our students, collaborating to create something special to share with you, our audience. House Drama is most definitely a celebration of Fintona’s students and the extraordinary things that they are capable of.
Each year the Houses are given a topic that challenges them to utilise contextual information, a stimulus selected at random and an overarching theme in their performance. Again, this year, all the Houses have risen to the challenge and created a unique and entertaining piece of Drama, which they are very excited to share with you. Congratulations to our Year 11 students for creating the script, choreography and design and to all of our Years 5-10 performers and artists who have brought their vision alive. I hope you are proud of what you have achieved together.
An event of this size and complexity does not happen without the contribution of the whole school community. I would particularly, however, like to acknowledge the unfailing energy and attention to detail of John Batterham, for whom nothing is too much trouble. In addition, James Burdan, Luke Breen, Brett Bates, Jack Harvey and Sarah Bell have gone above and beyond to help ensure the success of this year’s House Drama. A particular thanks must also go to our incredible Heads of House: Fairlie Marsland, Meredith Harris, Emily Erwin, Rachel Carpenter, Bryndyll Loughrey, Sheryl Manassa, Paul Kelly and Kate Brooke who have supported and encouraged their Houses throughout the process and performances.
Well done to everyone involved, it is a pleasure to see your creativity and imagination on stage.

FROM CONGA TO CURE
In a futuristic society, Dr Smelt is selling his counterfeit medicine, ‘Health Gems’, that have replaced all other forms of medicine (including antibiotics). He charges ridiculous prices for his fake remedies. One day, a terrible dancing disease infects the city, and everyone begs Dr Smelt to heal them with his Health Gems, but since they are a placebo, it does nothing to stop the infection. A team of scientists and researchers, Lily, Agnes and Max, venture into their sassy Time Machine to attempt to get antibiotics back to save their city. Initially, they accidentally land in the Black Plague and learn how destructive a disease can be without proper medicine. Finally, they arrive in the year 1928 and meet Alexander Fleming, the inventor of antibiotics, and take the recipe back to the future.

POWER TRIP
In a fractured world, where old technology has been lost to history and humanity teeters on the brink of extinction, four workers—Chris, Evan, Oriana, and Ares—uncover the remnants of a forgotten power source: electricity. Their journey to revive this ancient force sparks a struggle over whether such power should be harnessed or feared. As they navigate a society plagued by overwork and a frightened, desperate government, a vision from an Oracle warns of both the promise and the peril that the power of electricity brings. They must decide whether to restore the energy that once fuelled progress and rescue their city Mira from stagnation, or to heed the lessons of history and let the power source remain dormant.

UNCHIPPED
It is the year 3000, and a lot has changed in the world. This includes the recent AI uprising, where humanoid artificial intelligence tried to take over society through controlling everyone with microchips. The government has put in place bans to stop them but it’s too late; there only remains a few unchipped people, the Rebels, who spend their lives evading being microchipped by the other chipped people. Until one of their own gets chipped. Subsequently, the Rebels go on a dangerous mission involving a time machine, nun chucks, and a cow, to find out how to release their friend, and maybe all of society in the process.

THE MYSTERY OF THE HOT RED
THING AND HOW TO TURN
IT OFF
In a world where fire is eradicated, its power and its control are long forgotten by the people of Earth. In this ultramodern society the threat of malfunctions in a device is utterly unimaginable. So, when a troublesome kid somehow causes one of JB-Sci-Fi’s high-tech gadgets to catch alight with a hot light, boss, Bobby Stew is ready to fire someone. With the warehouse, homes full of contraptions and their jobs on the line, Sarah, Duncan, John and Alex must figure out what this light is, and how to ‘turn it off.’ A quick trip back in time promises an easy solution that proves too good to be true. But as it keeps burning, our travelers must think outside the box to tame the beast that is… FIRE
