The Grade II Listed Madeira Hall, that included the land this property was built on, was purchased by my parents in 1949 and was historically owned by a Miss Dick who is thought to have been the inspiration for Charles Dickens’ character, Miss Havisham. It was also rented by politician Lord Macaulay and Winston Churchill is known to have visited the Bonchurch area. My home was originally built some 60 years ago in the then orchard as a two-bedroom bungalow but was extended upwards when my children arrived. It has been a wonderful home and I love the position but I feel it is now time to move to the mainland to be nearer members of my family. As it has never previously been on the market it now offers enormous potential for new owners to make it their own.
There is a community bus that goes into Ventnor in the mornings, which is very useful as well as the Vectis buses that go every half an hour to Newport and Ryde from Ventnor. It is only half a mile to Bonchurch, Ventnor and Boniface Downs, which is owned by the National Trust and is an area of Special Scientific Interest, offers wonderful places to go for a country walk. It is named after the 8th century St Boniface who is believed to have preached in Bonchurch at Pulpit Rock.
Ventnor became one of the more famous seaside resorts during Victorian times when Queen Victoria frequented Osborne House as she liked its unique micro-climate. The town has a delightful seafront with great walks along the sea wall and beside the gorgeous Cascade Gardens. As Ventnor's all year round climate is milder than that of the surrounding areas it is notable for its superb Botanic Gardens, where you can enjoy a wander round a 22 acre sub-tropical paradise.
The town has a number of sporting clubs including tennis, cricket, rugby, football, angling and bowling as well as a local golf club. There is a selection of schools in the vicinity and it is also the location for the island's 'Free School'.*

With the stunning backdrop of St Boniface Downs and located in a quiet cul-de-sac on the outskirts of Bonchurch in a Conservation area, this unique chalet bungalow is in a wonderful location. It is only a 10 minute walk to the beach and there are sea views at the end of the road.
The property is surrounded by a beautifully looked after garden bordered by impressive mature trees and shrubs in about a third of an acre. It is set back from the road and approached via a block paved driveway that is bordered by a front garden with a lawn, a large Bramley apple tree, shrub borders and a picket fence. The drive leads to the tandem garage and steps down to a covered passageway and a door to the kitchen. This is well-proportioned with plenty of storage units and stand-alone appliances.
There is a spacious reception hall with oak flooring and a door to the garden and a large dual aspect lounge that includes a stone fireplace with a Chinese slate hearth and a large picture window that provides delightful views over the garden. The good sized dining room is also dual aspect and large enough to entertain at least a dozen people for a supper party or a family celebration.
On the ground floor you will also find the family bathroom and two double bedrooms that both have built in cupboards. While on the first floor there are two further double bedrooms with fitted wardrobes and served by a separate cloakroom. There is also access to the boarded loft that provides ideal storage facilities.
Outside in an elevated position surrounded by charming rockeries is a conservatory and a separate patio where you can sit and enjoy panoramic views around the garden and beyond. There is also a very useful workshop and a greenhouse at the bottom of the garden for those who enjoy pottering in the garden.
