THIS TEAM IS DEDICATED to providing topnotch legal services to athletes and the sports industry. Experienced Business Services and Litigation attorneys, they have come together to form the premier Sports Law Group in the Lehigh Valley, utilizing their combined understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the sports world.
One of the key areas that Gross McGinley focuses on is name, image, and likeness (NIL). Recent changes in state laws and NCAA regulations have made NIL a hot topic. Athletes are now allowed to monetize their NIL rights, which means they can endorse products, appear

Beyond NIL, Gross McGinley also offers a wide range of legal services to athletes and sports organizations. They handle everything from contract formations and negotiations and compliance issues to injury litigation and general counsel.

What’s in a name?
Fig Authentic: Afa Anoa’i, Jr.
WHILE HE MAY BE THE NAMESAKE of a man who helped spawn professional wrestling’s Samoan dynasty—as well as cousin of pro wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson—Afa Anoa’i, Jr. has certainly made a name for himself.
During the summer before eighth grade, Afa was inspired to officially begin his wrestling career while in Austria with his father, who was running an international tour there. “Not without proper training” was his dad’s requirement for joining the tour. So after a three-day immersive training on a hotel room floor with his WWE star older brothers, he officially stepped into the ring.
While he never stopped wrestling, his “freakishly large” size got him recruited to Freedom High School’s varsity football team. After three years as an allconference defensive tackle, he accepted a spot on the UConn Huskies college team. Poised to be a first-round NFL draft pick after his freshman season, he blew out his knee and his career came to a premature end.
TRAINER AND ENTERTAINER
After continuing his pro wrestling career as WWE superstar Manu, Afa also discovered his passion for training other wrestlers.
Amidst the pandemic, he opened The Battlefield Pro Wrestling Center in Brodheadsville, where he’s already helped over 16 hopefuls make their WWE debuts. His moves were also sought out on a different stage —the theater. Afa took on the role of choreographer for an off-Broadway production of The Last Match , and was recently recognized with a Broadway World Regionals 2023 award for “Best Choreography of a Play or Musical.”
HIS FAVORITE NAME
Despite all his career success, “Dad” is truly the name Afa loves most. “Having kids put my life into focus,” says Afa. “I do it all for them.”
Afa’s son and daughter have already started wrestling training. “You can’t keep them out of the ring,” says the proud dad. Sounds familiar.

FOR OVER 15 YEARS, Wind Creek Bethlehem has been a strong supporter of one of the area’s most notable nonprofits, Cops ‘n’ Kids Lehigh Valley—an organization that seeks to “connect kids and community through literacy.” Cops ‘n’ Kids Lehigh Valley works to unite the community— including police officers, municipal leaders, and retired teachers—and schools with literacy-focused events and enrichment activities.
One of the organization’s most revered initiatives includes their ongoing collection and distribution of new or gently used books throughout the Lehigh Valley. To date, Cops ‘n’ Kids Lehigh Valley has distributed over 1.1 million books.
“Our success has been possible because we have been joined by
organizations that have embraced our mission wholeheartedly, again and again,” said Beverly Bradley, President, Cops ‘n’ Kids Lehigh Valley Inc. “Without a doubt, one of those organizations is Wind Creek Bethlehem.”
Every year, Wind Creek Bethlehem engages in volunteer efforts, organizing book drives and providing other means of support.
“We simply could not do all that we do without the support and encouragement of thoughtful community partners like Wind Creek Bethlehem,” said Beverly.
Wind Creek Bethlehem Team Members have collected and donated over 4,000 books to Cops ‘n’ Kids Lehigh Valley.

hair and life advice
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE OR “MUST HAVE” HAIR PRODUCTS?
Everyone should have a leave-in treatment—can’t say enough about that! If you like to be outside, at the beach, or in the pool, make sure it has a UV filter. This will add softness and shine to your hair. Every on-the-go woman also needs a dry shampoo!
SPEAKING OF BUSY WOMEN, HOW DO YOU BALANCE IT ALL?
By practicing what I preach and making sure to schedule time for myself just like I recommend for my clients. Practicing yoga, getting facials, and making room for friends all contribute to my well-being. I also never skip my hair appointments! The time I spend in the chair is just as valuable as the time I spend behind it.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD CLIENTS BOOK HAIR APPOINTMENTS?
I love spending time with my guests, so I invite them my back every six weeks. It’s good for the mind, body, soul, and of course, the hair!
IF YOU’D LIKE TO GET INTO COSMETOLOGY, WHERE DO YOU START?
There are a few ways to get started. You can attend a beauty school, a vocational school, or an apprenticeship program. If you like a more personalized experience, you can apply to our apprentice program offered at A-List Salon.
WHAT’S IT LIKE WORKING IN BETHLEHEM’S SOUTHSIDE ARTS DISTRICT?
The Southside is near and dear to my heart. I am grateful to be positioned in the community where I grew up. This part of town is lively and filled with creativity. I’m thrilled to be a part of it. If I can inspire one person from our community to pursue their passions, I will feel successful.
WHAT IS ONE “FUN FACT” YOU’VE DISCOVERED FROM BEING IN THIS FIELD?
The one thing that seems to be surprisingly consistent is how rough we are with our hair. I see it all the time—clients brushing through their hair aggressively. The ripping and pulling, usually with the wrong brush, causes breakage and frizz. In this fastpaced society, cutting corners has become normal. I always say, “Slow down, be kind to your hair, and your hair will be kind to you. Kindness is always fashionable.”

[Howard]: Our employees have been invigorated and energized by our clean, fresh environment. It has definitely helped us attract and retain talent. The open floor plan allows for collaboration between team members, which has led to increased productivity and engagement.
What do your employees love about being in Downtown Allentown?
[Howard]: Our employees love the convenience. The office is close to everything they need, from lunch meeting locations, to public transportation, to our branch on 6th Street. And there’s always something going on downtown, so employees can go out together and that helps bond our team.
What advantages have you received as a tenant of City Center?
[Howard]: City Center lets us market our credit union to the professionals in their other office buildings. We are doing it now to publicize that our 6th Street branch is within walking distance. As a tenant, we are also a Preferred Employer for City Center’s apartments. City Center has been generous with tickets to PPL Center events and reduced fees for our employees to join LVHN Fitness. And our employee parking is right next door to our building.

Fig Giving Back: Boys & Girls Club of Bethlehem
BOYS & GIRLS CLUB Program Director Scott Perry was an elementary school aged boy dealing with his parents’ separation when he walked into the Club for the first time. And he never left. At age 19, Scott was offered full-time employment with the nonprofit. Soon after, he was joined by Unit Director Lisa Ramos, who began her career building out programs for girls at the Club and throughout the years took on many programmatic and administrative roles.
For decades, countless youth in Bethlehem have found a safe space for mentorship, development, and sports at the Boys & Girls Club, thanks largely to Scott and Lisa.
From the likes of professional basketball player Darrun Hilliard who played rec basketball in the Club, to troubled teens turned successful military professionals, to today’s doctors, lawyers, financiers, teachers, and everyday moms and dads living in the Lehigh Valley—so many have been impacted by this dynamic duo.
Then and now, within the walls of the Club, kids are seen, heard, loved and cared for. Connections made here shape futures and last a lifetime. For most, it’ll always be a place to call home.

IN 2006, ALISON LEIGH WAS WORKING AT A HIGH END SALON THAT MADE HER FEEL LIKE SHE COULDN’T BE HERSELF, and the clientele she wanted to attract wasn’t interested in the “stuffy” environment. Alison knew she had to do something quick to ensure finding fulfillment in her career. She decided to scout locations to open her own space. “I found the beautiful building at 12-14 West Fourth Street on Bethlehem’s Southside, and the rest is history!” she said.
From the vintage chairs and collection of rock posters and artwork to the uniquely designed counters and desks, the entire space is a window into the term DIY for Alison.

Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It’s a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity.”

Making a Paws-itive difference
VOLUNTEERING AT A LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTER IS A GREAT WAY TO BRING JOY AND LOVE INTO THE LIVES OF HOMELESS PETS. The Center for Animal Health & Welfare rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes animals throughout the Lehigh Valley. For those who want companionship without the responsibility of being a pet parent, volunteering is one of the most fulfilling experiences you can have.
CAHW’s new Executive Director, Sarah Wees, encourages Fig readers to visit the cats at Project Paw or the cats and dogs at The Center. Spend a little time with one of their furry residents, and you might just find a new best friend!
