GUARANTEED RATE BOWL
The 2021 Guaranteed Rate Bowl featured the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers and West Virginia’s Mountaineers for Bowl Season’s only matchup of Big Ten and Big 12 teams. Minnesota’s nationally-ranked defense held West Virginia to a single touchdown and 206 offensive yards. The game’s first touchdown came in the second quarter, by Minnesota’s 6-9, 380-pound offensive tackle Daniel Faalele.

West Virginia quarterback Jarret Doege brought the score to 8-6 with his rushing touchdown before halftime. Offensive Player of the Game was awarded to Ky Thomas for his 144 rushing yards and touchdown. Defensive Player of the Game was given to Golden Gophers safety Tyler Nubin, who helped secure Minnesota’s first Guaranteed Rate Bowl victory in four appearances.
