WELCOME TO THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON WOODS! NESTLED IN THE HEART OF METRO DETROIT, OUR VIBRANT CITY OFFERS THE PERFECT BLEND OF SUBURBAN CHARM AND URBAN CONVENIENCE.
Stroll through our tree-lined streets, visit our beautiful parks, and embrace the welcoming atmosphere that defines our community. In the last year, City Manager Chris Wilson worked with the City’s Anti-Racism Advisory Committee to host our second annual Juneteenth event and declared the day a City-wide holiday. Huntington Woods voters overwhelmingly approved a bond of up to $88 million for the Berkley School District to fund additions and improvements. We welcomed a new face to City Hall, as Sarah Wagner became our new Chief Community Engagement Officer and Deputy City Clerk. Sarah facilitates the City’s elections and creates the eBlast, which provides a weekly summary of news and upcoming events throughout the City.
The Huntington Woods Public Library is a member of the TLN library consortium and offers access to books and other items from more than 50 area libraries. We have programs for all ages, from storytimes for toddlers to teen and adult programs, all free of charge and open to everyone. In addition to our collection of physical books, DVDs, puzzles, games, and a growing Library of Things, your HWPL library card gives you access to more than 250,000 eBooks and audiobooks, streaming movies and music, Mango world languages, and other online resources. The lower level of the library features the Woods Gallery where unique and creative art is on display and available for purchase. The Woods Gallery and the Knox Room are also available for rent.
The Recreation Department continues providing fun to residents. Community events and enrichment classes such as archery, Mad Science, and cooking are in full swing. There is always something to enjoy at the Gillham Recreation Center. Latchkey is running strong with kids enjoying outdoor play and fun crafts and activities. Teen Council is busy planning fun trips and activities for their group along with some community service projects. Senior programming such as lunch bunch, movies, and the pen pal program continues to connect older residents with our younger population. The events never stop; keep looking for exciting events throughout the year! Information is available by checking the City's newsletter, the Hometown Herald, the 60+ Newsletter, and by signing up for the City's weekly eBlasts.
Public Works is working hard to make sure the city's infrastructure and services are updated. Residents can now enjoy new roads after a construction-heavy summer, brought to you by the additional funds in the general fund after the Public Safety millage was passed. Residents participated in creating art pillars that have been installed at Statue Park, at Nadine and Huntington. n
