Este mes en Roster celebramos 'Rocktubre' y la consigna de este mes es dar un testimonio sobre: ¿Qué significa el Rock en mi vida? Empecé mi carrera en la música como ayudante de una banda de covers en New Jersey, yo vendía sus playeras, calcomanías (stickers), entre otras cosas, al poco tiempo me hicieron manager y no tenia ni 18 años, entonces no podía estar con ellos dentro del salón donde tocaban, y me escondía en cocinas, o camerinos. La vida me fue dando señal que lo mío era trabajar en algo que tenía que ver con el entretenimiento, cuando necesitaban un manager de escenario, yo me apuntaba, cuando algún club necesitaba alguien que hiciera luces, ahí también yo estaba pendiente de que me llamaran (sabía manejar una consola de luces, no ni ahí), pero a todo sí, y a los tumbos fui a aprendiendo cada oficio.

La música me marcó, especialmente todo lo que era rock, cuanto más volumen tenía más me gustaba, a los 20 y algo de años, cambié los gustos, seguía con el rock, pero ahora era en mi idioma, 'en español', y empecé a descubrir en un programa de videos en el canal local latino a bandas y artistas como Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Fobia, Soda Estéreo, Miguel Mateos, Café Tacuba, Maldita Vecindad, Caifanes, entre un montón más, y ahí fue el cambio, el clic, yo quería trabajar y promover a esas bandas.

En el año 1993 gracias a personas que me ayudaron mucho como Iván Morales (manager de Fobia en esos tiempos), Tomas Cookman (ex manager de LFC), y Alba Eagan (VP de marketing para BMG US LATIN). Ellos me ayudaron a conocer más de los grupos y de personas en posiciones claves, y gracias a su apoyo, empezó la etapa que aún sigue de promover y desarrollar grandes talentos para la compañía BMG US LATIN.

Hoy puedo decir que trabajé con todos esos artistas que veía los domingos en un programa de videos. También me gustaría remarcar que en estos 35 o más años en la industria de la música he llegado a trabajar con varios artistas de otros géneros, desde la leyenda de Juan Gabriel, al grupo furor de todos los tiempos RBD.

This month in Roster we celebrate 'Rocktober', and the idea of this month is to answer the following question: What is the meaning of ROCK music in my life?

I started my career in music as an assistant to a cover band in New Jersey, I sold their T-shirts, stickers, among other things, shortly after they made me manager and I wasn't even 18 years old, since I was a minor, I wasn’t able to be inside of the club where they were performing, so the solution was to hide in the kitchen or dressing room. Life was giving me a sign that my call-in life was to work in the entertainment business or close to it. I was always willing and able, when they needed a stage manager, I signed up, when a club needed someone to do lights, there I was also waiting for them to call me (did I know how to work the light board? No), but I said yes to everything, and I made lots of mistakes and probably made some people mad along the way, but I learned each trade, lights, sound, staging etc. etc. Music marked me, especially Rock music, the louder it was, the more I liked it, when I was a little over twenty years old, my taste changed, I continued listening to rock music, but it was in my native language 'in Spanish'. I started discovering bands and artists like Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Fobia, Soda Stereo, Miguel Mateos, Café Tacuba, Maldita Vecindad, Caifanes, among many more. One of my favorite things was to watch a music video program on the local Latin channel, and that was the start of everything, it just clicked, and I knew I wanted to work and promote those bands. In 1993, thanks to the people who helped me a lot, such as Iván Morales (manager of Fobia at the time), Tomas Cookman (former manager of LFC), and Alba Eagan (VP of marketing for BMG US LATIN), they helped me to learn more about the groups and people in key positions, and thanks to their support, I was able to be hired as a promoter for BMG US LATIN the company that had many of the artists I use to watch on the local video show. Today I can say that I worked with all those artists that I use to watch every Sunday on the local Latin Tv channel. I would also like to point out that in these 35 or more years in the music industry I have worked with several artists from other genres, from the legendary Juan Gabriel to the number one Latino teen group of all times RBD. Still today I considered myself a Rock music fan, but I also like all types of music if it’s good.

'Waiting' es el primer sencillo del EP surgido de la colaboración entre Sol Franci y Électriciennes. Se trata de una poderosa balada en el estilo de las grandes chanteuses de la escena internacional. Es decir: una canción en la mejor tradición del pop intelectual. A través de este tema, ambos proyectos dan testimonio de la valentía y el optimismo, a veces irracional, que caracteriza la juventud. ¿Por qué escuchar música triste cuando se tiene el corazón roto?, si tenemos reggaetón. Esta es la filosofía que nos regala Ryzz Reyes en su nuevo sencillo 'Frikitona', que nos invita a vivir el erotismo del despecho y la tristeza. Después de algunos meses de silencio, el cantante originario de Torreón regresa para dejar en claro que en México no sólo se escucha, si no que también se hace reggaetón. Esta canción es la sucesora de 'Estoy bien' que fue lanzada en 2021.

A diferencia de su anterior tema, 'Frikitona' tiene menos elementos de trap y se acerca más a ese reggaetón rítmico, bailable y sencillo. El género de rock siempre ha sido la música que en un principio fue el impulso que me dio la inspiración para seguir una carrera en la música.

The rock genre has always been the music that was the driving force that gave me the inspiration to pursue a career in music in the first place.

Siempre fui fan de los Beatles, de Led Zeppelin, de Rolling Stones, The Police, U2, Elvis Costello y hace unos años que pude lograr uno de mis sueños, no solamente conocer a Elvis Costello, hacerme amigo de él y trabajar con él, en 2020 hicimos un disco en español de uno de sus discos clásicos 'Spanish Model' yo tuve el encargo de adaptar 5 de sus canciones clásicas de inglés a español, para mí fue un momento muy muy especial en mi carrera como compositor, como artista y como fan de él.

I was always a fan of the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, The Police, U2, Elvis Costello and a few years ago I was able to achieve one of my dreams, not only meeting Elvis Costello, but I became friends with him and work with him, In 2020 we made an album in Spanish of one of his classic albums 'Spanish model' I had the commission to adapt 5 of his classic songs from English to Spanish, for me it was a very special moment in my career as a composer, as an artist and as a fan of his.

El rock en mi carrera ha significado muchísimo. Es la música que crecí oyendo, yo crecí escuchando todo lo que tenía que ver con rock en español realmente: Soda Stereo, Enanitos verdes, Los prisioneros.

Rock in my career has meant a lot. It's the music I grew up listening to, I grew up listening to everything that really had to do with'Rock En Español': Soda Stereo, Enanitos Verdes, Los Prisoneros.

El primer concierto al que fui, que me dejaron ir fue uno de “Los prisioneros”, yo vivía en Chile amaba a ese grupo, me parecían super revolucionarias sus letras; entonces fue al primer concierto al que pude ir y fue de rock y tengo la suerte digamos que hoy en día en mi carrera hago parte de dos proyectos que tienen todo que ver con el rock, porque el primero que hice durante muchos años es un musical que se llama “Cuando seas grande” como la canción de Miguel Mateos, que contaba un poco cómo había sido la llegada del rock en español a Colombia yo era la voz femenina de ese musical que evolucionó a otro proyecto que tenemos ahora en Colombia que se llama “La batalla de los 80”, en el que es una competencia de varios géneros entre esos el rock, el pop y lo que en Colombia llamamos la música de plancha, unos “baladones” grandísimos que existían y una música muy significativa de esta época. Así que nada el rock ha sido parte de mi carrera y me ha acompañado desde chiquita hasta el momento.

The first concert I went to, “that they let me go to”, was one of “Los Prisoners”, I lived in Chile, I loved that group, their lyrics seemed super revolutionary to me; So it was the first concert I was able to go to and it was rock and I'm lucky let's say that today in my career I'm part of two projects that have everything to do with rock, because the first one I did for many years is a musical which is called "When you are big"(“Cuando Seas Grande”) like the song by Miguel Mateos, which told a little about how rock in Spanish arrived in Colombia, I was the female voice of that musical that evolved into another project that we now have in Colombia that is called "The Battle of the 80s", in which it is a competition of various genres including rock, pop and what in Colombia we call iron music, some great ballads that existed and a very significant music of this time. So, rock has been part of my career and has accompanied me since I was a teen ager until now.
