FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT’S DESK
Jeff Drake, Superintendent
On behalf of the entire district, I want to express my sincere gratitude to our students, staff, and parents for a fantastic first half of the school year! I am incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication demonstrated by our students, both inside and outside the classroom. Your accomplishments in academics, arts, and athletics are truly inspiring. I also want to extend my deepest appreciation to our dedicated staff for their unwavering commitment to providing a high-quality education for every student. Finally, a heartfelt thank you to our parents for your continued support and partnership in your child's education. As we move into the second half of the year, please continue to prioritize strong student attendance. Daily attendance is the foundation for continued learning and success. I look forward to another successful semester filled with growth, discovery, and achievement.
Supt. Drake

Early Childhood Family Education/Pre-School/Kindergarten
The past few months have been busy at Lincoln School. We’ve been learning a lot about math and science. The fresh snow was perfect for learning about snowflakes and symmetry. Mrs. Lillis's Pink team wants you to know that Wilson Bentley was the first to photograph a snowflake in 1885.
Kindergarten students have been working on early literacy skills. “Surgically dissecting” words into individual sounds helps us to develop the phonemic awareness we will need to decode larger and more complex words.
At the preschool level, we’ve been working on our constructing skills. Stacking and building really activates our planning brains and requires concentration, teamwork, and fine motor skills. Otter Preschool also creates lots of opportunities to play games. Taking turns, strategizing, and being a good sport are all part of being a successful learner.

At McKinley, Mr. George's and Mr. Griebe’s classes both gave the kids the same writing prompt. "What would you do if you woke up and found a dinosaur in your backyard?" The students wrote their stories and shared them with one another. Afterwards they were able to make their dinosaurs out of modeling clay or play dough. Mr. George’s 1st grade class and Mr. Griebe’s 3rd grade classes pair up and try to do something together once a month. The students enjoy it! In October they read stories to one another and completed a can you find me Halloween activity.
Thanks to a generous donation from the 544 Education Foundation, students at Adams School are enjoying the new basketball hoops in Mr. Meyer's PE class.
The 2nd graders in Mrs. Stich’s class celebrated a Polar Express Day. They got their train tickets punched as they entered the classroom. They enjoyed hot chocolate with whipped topping and sprinkles. It was a cozy day! A volunteer reader from the local Kiwanis Club shared the story of The Grinch with the 2nd graders. Now the students are ready to learn in 2025!
Grades 4th-5th
Cleveland students attending Prairie Science Class have spent time in their outdoor classroom making discoveries, mapping Prairie Pothole, noticing popups made by muskrats, and even observing a Short Eared Owl while it was hunting on the prairie.
There is a lot to learn in the great outdoors!
