BEST PREACHING EVER TALK 5: THE MASK CALLED ANGER INSIDE

TODAY’S READINGS

Blessing Blog Last Week’s Homily & Talk Message from Bro. Bo Sanchez

First Reading: Acts 2:14, 22-33 Psalms: 16:1-2, 5, 7-11 Second Reading: 1 Peter 1:17-21 Gospel: Luke 24:13-35

Patulan Na Yan Out of all the emotions, anger is the most difficult for me to manage. Extremes kasi ang nangyayari sa akin: either I don’t get angry at all even if the situation calls for it, or when I do... nawawala sa lugar. Klasik na halimbawa sa akin kapag may mga bully na bus na gumigitgit sa EDSA. Minsan, napapatulan ko talaga sila. Paminsan naman, by God’s grace, napapalampas ko lang. I really want to better improve the way I deal with it. I know there is always a purpose for feeling that way. Kaya excited ako today. We will be discussing the sermon of Jesus that talks specifically about anger. Feeling angry is not a sin. Yes, you heard it right. What makes it a sin is what you do with it.

Have a blessed Feast today.

In Christ, John Ben Rodriguez

BLESSING BLOG I Am God’s Soldier By Gilfred Ulat

“God doesn’t give the hardest battles to his toughest soldiers, he creates the toughest soldiers through life’s hardest battles.” Life has not been easy. And this year has been a tough one. Battles Here and There Our company suffered from financial problems due to collection issues. As business owners, our top priority are my employees. We paid their salaries and sacrificed ours. I have no other source of income except from my business. That was difficult especially because I also have a family to feed. Then, another challenge came. My wife Hazel kept on vomiting. We thought it was just the usual acid reflux, but to be certain I decided to bring her to the hospital. We found out that she needed to undergo several tests to determine her condition. Sadly, our finances were not enough to cover for the medical attention she needed so the doctor just had to manage her condition. When the pain subsided, Hazel and I decided to go home. When the President announced the Enhanced Community Quarantine in the entire Luzon to flatten the COVID-19 curve, that also meant stopping our business operations. In simplest terms, no cashflow until this situation is over. Glad that I was able to save money enough to meet our daily needs for some weeks. Broken but Not Defeated During the early week of quarantine period, my son, Lance, had a high fever. I didn’t know what to do at that time! We prayed hard for healing because going to a hospital wasn’t an option we’d want to take. Thank God, he recovered after three days. Few days later, Hazel started vomiting again. She couldn’t sleep due to severe pain in her back and stomach. Her skin turned yellow. We had sleepless nights for several days. I called every angel and saint and prayed the rosary each day but none of my prayers worked. I pleaded for a miracle to avoid exposing ourselves to the invisible COVID-19 disease lurking outside but God was silent. There was no other choice. My wife needed immediate medical attention. We’re scared, but we’re doing it. I prayed again. I know God is there. The hospital was busy as expected. Feeling paranoid, I asked for connections so we can leave the premises sooner. Fortunately, a friend knew the owner of the hospital and asked some medical personnel to attend to us. We found out that a gall stone blocked her bile duct causing the pus and inflammation and it has to be surgically removed soonest. At that time, I asked God, “You are the Healer, right? Dasal naman ako ng dasal pero bakit ganito?” God’s Hand at Work They found other concerns during the laboratory exams but we decided to delay them. The surgery was successful and I’m relieved. Then I was shocked when I saw the hospital bill. It was double the amount I was expecting. We were due to checkout that morning. But how could I pay when I didn’t have enough funds? Will they accept a promissory note? Little did I know that my Intercessory Ministry family and some friends in the business community where I belong pooled funds to raise the needed amount. We were able to pay the hospital bill at a discounted rate! Apparently, the anesthesiologist and the attending doctor were connected to some people I knew. Love poured in. We also received food and some groceries as gifts. When Hazel was discharged, she continued to battle with pain and fever. A friend who knows one of her doctors helped us get the needed prescription without going back to the hospital. With the medication, recovery started taking place. We are exploring alternative solutions to hopefully make the other procedure unnecessary. Wifey started drinking lemon water everyday. We believe the natural method is way better than Western medicine. Thank God, Hazel’s condition is getting better day by day! While I continue to look for opportunities to support my family during this situation, I am grateful to have a strong support group and prayer partners. I realized that God don’t easily answer our prayers. He wanted me to trust Him despite the hardship because He is there! With what happened to me this quarantine period, I learned to totally surrender to Him. This too shall pass. I’m looking forward for my rebound. As they say, “The greater the pull back, the greater the come back!” Gilfred has been actively serving in the Intercessory Ministry since 2011. Excited to become a part of the family and pray for the needs of others? Please send a message to The Feast Ermita Facebook page.

Personal Reflection & Discussion Question: If you have anger, find out if it’s a secondary emotion. Find out also if it comes from “being wronged” or from “things not going your way”. Bring your anger—and the underlying emotion (if any)—to the Lord.

LAST WEEK’S HOMILY & TALK HOMILY

Gospel Reading According to John 20:19-31 Fr. Lawrence De Peralta, SSP

Jesus Appears to His Disciples The life of St. Thomas can be compared to our own. While he has been called the Doubting Thomas, he is also called Courageous Thomas. In the gospel, even if Thomas doubts his faith, He still expressed his profession of faith. In our life we may have challenges, but once we see how the Lord works in our life, we can still experience Him and profess our faith. We are all invited this Easter to celebrate the joy of His life.

RECAP

BEST PREACHING EVER TALK 4: More Than a Makeover Makeover is only external. We want more than a makeover, something deeper. What happened to us externally would affect us internally. Jesus knew that when it comes from the heart, it is easier to deal with things. It’s more powerful if we start doing something that is inside our heart and to do things out of obligation. If we want more lasting change, it will start in our hearts. The religious leaders, called Pharisees, thought Jesus was throwing away the early religious teachings. Our Lord has different way of sharing His teachings and they felt insulted. Jesus befriended the law breakers because Jesus was after their hearts. He knew their essence so He can bring His love. What is more important than external laws is the heart. The Law is the “school for the heart” whose purpose is to teach people to follow God in the world. The law is not enough. The Old Covenant is about duty. The New Covenant is about devotion. Only love changes us because only love can reach the depths of our hearts.

BIBLE VERSE

BIG MESSAGE: God Is After Your Heart.

“You have heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment.’ 22 But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell. 23 “So if you are presenting a sacrifice at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, 24 leave your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God. 25 “When you are on the way to court with your adversary, settle your differences quickly. Otherwise, your accuser may hand you over to the judge, who will hand you over to an officer, and you will be thrown into prison. 26 And if that happens, you surely won’t be free again until you have paid the last penny. (Matthew 5:21-26 NLTCE)

Cut The Strings! After the Feast, a woman asked me for prayer. She said, “For the past 4 years, I’ve been angry at my neighbor. I can’t seem to move on…” She explained why, and I won’t even tell you the story anymore. But I will tell you what I told her. I said, “Your anger makes you feel superior. You feel in control. That’s why you keep anger in your heart. But here’s the reality: As long as you keep your anger alive towards that neighbor, you’re a puppet of that neighbor. Through your anger, you’ve given that neighbor strings. She’s in control of your life.”

It was a hard pill to swallow, but she got it.

I urge you to cut the strings of your puppeteer.

Let go of your anger. Give it to God now.

Have a liberating Feast today!

May your dreams come true, BO SANCHEZ The Feast, Founder
