Cari soci e amici,
Congratulazioni e sinceri ringraziamenti a tutti i soggetti coinvolti.
Louis Crema PRESIDENTE
Dear Members and Friends,
I hope you and your families are all keeping well. As the end of the year approaches, we look forward to celebrating the 52nd Anniversary of our Club’s opening on Friday, 5th December — a wonderful opportunity to come together and celebrate another milestone in our proud history. This year has been full of events and activities, all while we have continued to manage the ongoing challenges posed by the roadworks in front of our premises. One of our standout successes was the Salami Festa, held over two days in late August. This new event, introduced by our committee member Dennis Pozzebon and coordinated by Dennis, Guido, and Sonya, with the support of management and staff, proved to be a great success. Congratulations and sincere thanks to everyone involved.
Our Men’s Shed and Women’s Circle continue to be well attended and much loved, with a variety of engaging speakers. A huge thank you to Sonya, Edda, and Guido for their dedication and enthusiasm in leading these programs.
Unfortunately, we have also had many wakes this year as members and friends have passed away. Our heartfelt condolences go out to their families — may their memories live on.
I would like to acknowledge and thank Josè Faggion, President of the Ladies Auxiliary, who continues to organise lunches and functions for the ladies and anziani of the Club. It is always pleasing to receive such positive feedback about these events.
To the rest of our dedicated Committee — thank you for your continued hard work:
Ivan Anzanello, for his contribution to our football and sports programs alongside our sports manager Karl Hodge.
Loren Zanin, our secretary, who takes the time to meet and welcome new members each month. I’m pleased to report that our membership numbers have grown this year.
Dino De Bortoli, our treasurer, who worries and battles with our trading losses through this challenging period of the North East Link works.
Fabio Sandonà, who oversees our associations, our choir, and maintains strong communications with the Regione del Veneto in Italy.
Thank you also to our managers, Kon Monos and Joe Morello, and each and everyone of our staff, who work so hard to make sure the Club runs smoothly and continues to provide the great service and quality we are known for.
I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to our members and supporters whose continued patronage is vital to the Club’s success. You are truly the foundation of our organization. I also wish to express heartfelt thanks and acknowledgment to all our volunteers and sponsors for their invaluable contributions to the Club’s works and its success.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a safe, happy, and prosperous New Year.

Sonya Velo
Reflecting on the last 12 months, what is there to say but we have battled through another year of disruption.
Disruption which feels uncomfortable, disheartening and certainly tests our resilience. As I drive towards the entrance, there’ a feeling of frustration and sadness which I expect many of you have also felt. But then I cast my eyes upon our magnificent building, and I feel a sense of comfort of “being home” and that we still stand tall amongst all the chaos.
At the heart of the Veneto Club’s identity are the values of respect and culture. Respect for our heritage, for the stories lived by our foundation members, and for the traditions that shaped who we are today. And equally, respect for diversity, change, growth, and the evolving culture of our club community as it battles through and continues to survive. By honouring where we come from while embracing who we are becoming, the Veneto Club stands as a vibrant cultural hub—one that fosters pride, understanding, and a shared commitment to keeping our connections strong for generations to come.
In both moments of celebration and times of challenge, the Veneto Club stands strong by standing together. By supporting one another, honouring our roots, and embracing constructive feedback, we ensure the Club strives for excellence, and remains a vibrant cultural hub—one defined by resilience, understanding, and a shared commitment to moving forward side by side.
The Veneto Club has always been more than just a gathering place—it’s a living expression of connection and community. It brings people together across generations, celebrating shared experiences while welcoming new voices into the fold. By listening to and considering feedback from members, the Club will continue to grow with purpose, ensuring everyone feels valued and heard. Whether through sport, family events, dining and social gatherings or simple everyday conversation, the Club strengthens the bonds that make a community feel like home. It reminds us that belonging isn’t something that just happens; it’s something we build together through time, through effort, openness, participation, and genuine care for one another.
As a board member we represent you on driving the Club forward, through these challenging times.
And as we turn our heads and look towards 2026 I encourage you to connect with one of our board members and have an open conversation about our way forward, get a better understanding of our position, and provide any feedback that might assist us in resetting the bar of excellence that we know we are capable of.
Arrivederci 2025…. you have challenged us – but we are not beaten.
Benvenuto 2026…. We are ready to take you on with coraggio.
Regards
Sonya Velo VICE PRESIDENT

Dear Members,
Where does the time go? Another year has passed – it’s hard to believe! Time seems to move faster as we get older, as many members would probably agree. The world continues to change, yet in several respects, the Veneto Club has remained steady. While stability is generally a good thing, it also brings its own set of challenges as we continue to navigate some very testing times. The North East Link Project is still creating significant difficulties for our members, and ongoing operational issues for the Club.
Recently, I had cause to follow Giorgia Meloni’s leadership. In my opinion, she is a brilliant leader who reminds Italians to walk tall with their heads held high. These are indeed tough times for us at the Veneto Club, and we will need resilience and faith to see things through. I, along with the entire Board, am keen to see the tunnel works completed and the disruption finally over.
I hear the frustration from members regarding our ageing building. However, it would be irresponsible to proceed with major capital works without strong financial stability. Accordingly, the Sala Venezia project remains on hold. On a positive note, we have successfully completed the Sports Bar renovations this year, creating a new entertainment area which we hope members will enjoy for many years to come.
During the past year, Kon Monos and his team have worked to enhance our dining, cultural, and entertainment experiences. Although entertainment activities have grown, gaming income – which is critical to our financial model – remains lower than in previous years due to decreased patronage caused by the ongoing tunnel works.
Joe Morello in his role as Executive Manager, continues to manage the North East Link Project, and is working on a master plan that will hopefully provide new tennis courts and upgrades to our car park facilities. Joe helped increase our football sponsorship income to a record level last season.
Regarding our sports and football club management, I would like to especially acknowledge the efforts of Karl Hodge and his team, who have continued to drive success across all levels and in all sports. The team worked diligently with council to facilitate and transition some of the football operations to Powerful Owl Park (Templestowe Road). These facilities have provided capacity to grow Football Club Bulleen Lions (FCBL) to over 700 players and over 40 teams.
Whilst it can be frustrating to lose junior players to A-League academies, I see this as a compliment to our outstanding junior development programs. Better facilities are only part of the ingredients needed to be successful in sport – people make success. To all our football stakeholders (players, coaches, technical support teams and administration), I applaud your efforts!
As I mentioned last year, and must repeat again, I sincerely thank all our volunteers across every area of the Veneto Club – sporting, entertainment, and cultural. We simply could not be the Club we are without your dedication and passion.
In conclusion, I note that I am surrounded by like-minded people at Board level who always have the Veneto Club in their hearts. It has truly been a pleasure and privilege to work with you, and our unity is certainly a trait I am proud of within this group. In particular, this year, special thanks go to Guido, Dennis & Sonya for their efforts regarding the Salami Festa.
Let me take this opportunity to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy, and successful New Year.
Ivan Anzanello VICE PRESIDENT

Ivan Anzanello

Financials for the Financial Year 1st May 2024 – 30th April 2025
This was another challenging year for the Club. After a number of difficult years through COVID and road disruption, we are continuously faced with having to manage the Club activities through major interruption — this time due to the NEL road works and Bulleen Road realignment, which have caused inconvenience to management, members, and patrons.
Due to these difficulties last year, we made a loss of $1,030,000 as was reported at our AGM in June. This loss was mainly due to the major shortfall in gaming revenue compared to prior years. Nevertheless, the Board and management continue to provide our members with the events, facilities, benefits and cultural activities that may not contribute significant revenue for the club. The Board felt that it was essential that the Veneto Club maintain its core values and cultural activities for its members.
At April close, our cash holding was very healthy with more than $2.3 million held in various accounts and floats. Our gaming licence fees remain the major debt of the club with gaming licence total, of $1.8 million to be paid at $100,000 per quarter over the next 5 years.
Membership continues to grow with 1,581 signed up members at the end of April 2025- the highest during my tenure on the committee. Here is an outline of how membership is tracking:
We ask all members to continue to support the club by renewing membership and to introduce friends and family to the wonderful facilities and culture of the club.
Our operations for this period continue to be challenging, with revenue for Food, Beverage, Deli and Sports close to our expectations. Our Gaming revenue recovery is proceeding more slowly than anticipated, however in recent months we have seen encouraging increase in activity mainly due to new initiatives introduced by management.
The new Members Loyalty Program is now having a positive effect, and Gaming in recent months is close to our expectations, with many patrons returning to our Club. The Bulleen Road entrance is now established with traffic lights making entry and exit safer. This improvement is expected to encourage gaming patrons to return in greater numbers to enjoy our facilities and allowing profits return to appropriate levels.
The car park itself remains the most difficult facility to manage, with constant changes required to accommodate NEL requirements and road closures. We ask for all our patrons’ patience during this process. Management is working to minimise the car park interruptions.
Our sports program this year was very successful during the recently

completed football season with significant increase in sponsors and registered participants. Karl Hodge and the FCBL team worked tirelessly on the improvement of the financial position of FCBL and sports as a whole. The new three-pitch POP facility on Templestowe Road Bulleen has resulted in increased players and teams. We plan to make significant use of it.
Our current cash position in the last six months has reduced due to capital works and increased overhead costs. We are working to improve our operational cost where we can, to help get us through this NEL disruption to our car parking facility.
Last year we upgraded the Baracca and this year we upgraded the old Members Bar to a new members Sports Bar with Stan sports available for patrons. Please enjoy the new facilities.
The Committee is focused on continuing to improve the Club’s financial position in all areas to ensure a strong growing facility that continues to support the Veneto sporting activities, heritage and culture, well into the future. This vision cannot be achieved without the continuous support of our management team, their staff and the many volunteers that have contributed during the year to enhance and advance the Veneto Club for the benefit of all members. Thank you to Kon Monos, Joe Morello, their team and all the volunteers for your hard work during this difficult year.
Dino De Bortoli TREASURER

Eighteen months ago, I began my journey with the Veneto Club. Over the past 12 months as General Manager, I’ve embraced the challenges with determination and pride. Leading a club so deeply rooted in history and culture has been both rewarding and inspiring.
Like many long-standing institutions, the challenges we face today are not unlike those of 50 years ago. Our priorities remain clear:
• Ensuring the Veneto Club thrives for the next 50 years
• Providing a welcoming space for members and guests to connect
• Growing and engaging our membership
• Preserving our cultural connection to Veneto
• Supporting and celebrating our sporting community
• Ensuring all members continue to enjoy the benefits of club life
Our volunteers are the backbone of the club. Groups such as the Ladies Auxiliary, Crostoli Team, Women’s Circle, Men’s Shed, and Frittole classes play a vital role in fostering companionship, encouraging visits, and creating meaningful connections among members with shared interests.
We continue to host vibrant events that bring our community together. This year, Sagra San Marco and the inaugural Salami Festa each welcomed over 1,500 attendees. Our entertainment lineup remains a major draw, with shows featuring Joe Avati, Elvis, Queen, Bee Gees, and VC Disco among our most popular. Coming soon, we’re thrilled to welcome Effie (Mary Coustas) live in December, followed by Inxsive and Fleetwood Mac in the new year. Keep an eye out for these exciting performances!
Unfortunately, external factors such as NELP and ongoing disruptions on Bulleen Road continue to impact the club. Reduced parking, road closures, and limited access have posed significant challenges. While we’ve remained open during these periods, the effects have been felt. We are actively working with the state government to seek compensation and support, though the process is long and complex.
Looking ahead, these challenges will continue to affect our operations. Balancing the needs of our members and guests is becoming increasingly difficult. Gaming remains the club’s financial engine, and the impact of reduced access has been profound. Hosting events is now more important than ever to ensure the club’s sustainability.

Kon Monos
Finally, I wish all our members and their families a safe, festive, and joyful Christmas and New Year. Thank you for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Kon Monos GENERAL MANAGER

This is the fourth update on NELP work which started in 2022 and is scheduled for completion in 2028. During this period, there have been notable financial and operational impacts on the Veneto Club.
Challenging the State of Victoria for compensation
Over two years the Veneto Club Negotiating Sub-Committee has engaged in protracted and lengthy negotiations which required expending precious resources whilst the club has been trading at a loss. We have succeeded in securing payments for temporary land occupation, rent for loss of car parking spaces and legal costs, nevertheless, we continue to argue for more compensation funds to buttress the club operations for another two years as losses will continue until NEL Project is completed.
Looking to the future, there will be ongoing NELP road works on Bulleen Road and along the Eastern Freeway as the integration of infrastructure works merge with the arterial road systems until 2028.
NELP commitment to transfer land to Veneto Club
As major landmark works progress in proximity of the Club along a realigned Bulleen Road, in 2026 a prerequisite critical stage is the agreed transfer of land by NELP to the Club. It is a key priority for the Club before it can ramp-up at pace the detail design, planning and approvals of our Master Plan with key stakeholders Manningham City Council, Melbourne Water, Parks Victoria and Wurundjeri Group for which a building permit when issued will be enable its critical construction stage to occur.
The Veneto Club Master Plan Proposal
The Club will have a new front road entry for all vehicle traffic (incl. pedestrian paths), along with signalised traffic management controls, a restored left-turnslipway ingress and a dedicated safer pathway for large bus coaches (avoiding main car park) and a separate northbound exit gate for safety.
Frank Freschi CHAIRMAN
OF NELP NEGOTIATIONS SUB-COMMITTEE

BARRO GROUP PROUDLY SUPPORTING THE VENETO CLUB
Over the past three years, I have had the pleasure of serving as the Functions Manager at the Veneto Club, and I can honestly say it has been a fulfilling and rewarding experience. Our functions department has had the privilege of hosting a wide variety of events. Family celebrations including birthdays, anniversaries, engagements and religious milestones such as communions and confirmations. Each event has been special, but perhaps the most poignant moments have been when we’ve had the honor of supporting families during their times of loss, helping them celebrate the lives of loved ones.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire Veneto Club community for the unwavering support. From the moment we greet you with a smile at the venue, we feel your
warmth and enthusiasm, which makes it a pleasure to organise your events. A big thank you to our dedicated members, who's continued support makes it all possible.
Our corporate clients and partners have also enjoyed the hospitality we provide, and we’ve received fantastic feedback about our service and food. It’s always a joy to hear how much guests appreciate the experience we create together.
None of this would be possible without the remarkable team behind our functions department. Our staff—energetic, dedicated, and passionate about what they do—are the heart of our operations. Working alongside them to deliver quality events is a true team effort. I have the utmost respect for our kitchen

team, led by our Executive Chef David, whose consistent dedication ensures that every meal served exceeds expectations. I also want to thank our front-of-house function staff enough for their enthusiasm and professionalism—they are a fantastic group of individuals, always ready to lend a hand and support the events we host.
I’ve also been fortunate to work closely with Francesca our Events Manager, whose collaboration has been key to our continued success. Together, we work towards delivering memorable experiences for our members and guests, and it's a pleasure to see our team grow and thrive.
This year we have welcomed Lilly to the department in a full time role as function coordinator. Together we look forward to organising many successful events. I want to express my deepest gratitude to our customers. Your loyalty and support—not just for this department, but for the club as a whole—are truly appreciated. Without you, none of this would be possible. Thank you for trusting us to be part of your special moments, and for making every event so meaningful.
Here’s to many more successful events and celebrations in the year ahead! The functions team is just a phone call away to assist you, your family or friend to create a memorable experience.
Elizabeth Portelli FUNCTIONS MANAGER

The Women’s Circle hosted an Inside Homicide Case night on the 21st November 2024, featuring retired homicide detective Charlie Bezzina and media personality Dee Dee Dunleavy. The event was well attended and successfully raised more than $2,000 for the Terry Floyd Excavation Fund.

What a great inaugural Cup Game between the LETR Police Soccer Team and the FCBL/Special Olympics Australia (SOA) Melbourne Inner East Team!
The game was played in great spirits, despite the 30+ degree heat, on November 24th. It was a fabulous result for the FCBL/SOA squad, who won the first-ever annual game by scoring a penalty in the final minutes to defeat the Police team 15–14.
A huge thanks to Ron Sinclair and his team for making it such a special day for our entire squad, as well as for our SOA parents and wider community.
Thank you also to our Sports Coordinator, Sarah Hamilton, and to the Veneto Club for all their organisation and support.

In December 2024 we were honoured to celebrate the 51st Anniversary of the Veneto Club alongside our special guests — Vale Kevin Andrews, former Federal Member for Menzies, and his wife Margaret, Chiara Mauri, Italian Consul in Melbourne, Keith Wolahan MP, Federal Member for Menzies, the Hon. Matthew Guy, Victorian State MP and Deidre Diamante, Mayor of Manningham.
It was a fantastic evening filled with entertainment and laughter. A heartfelt thank you to President Louis Crema, and to all our members and friends, who made this significant milestone a memorable evening.

In March 2025, the Veneto Club proudly hosted its Annual Charity Golf Day in partnership with Camberwell Golf Club, once again bringing our community together in support of the Royal Children’s Hospital.
The day began bright and early at Freeway Golf Course, where more than 120 enthusiastic golfers teed off for a morning of friendly competition, camaraderie, and good spirits. From the first swing, the energy on the course was electric, with players eagerly vying for the coveted Hole-in-One Challenge — and the incredible $50,000 cash prize that came with it. While several golfers came tantalisingly close, the elusive hole-in-one remained just out of reach again this year.
After a thrilling day on the greens, players and guests gathered back at the Veneto Club to unwind and enjoy a superb lunch, featuring produce generously donated by Poultry N More, Viva La Fruit, Ciabatta Della Nonna, and Ribbons & Bows Cakes. The meal was perfectly complemented by outstanding wines from our premium partners Brown Brothers and De Bortoli, and beers kindly supplied by Drinkworks.
The afternoon continued with the presentation of prizes and an inspiring talk from our special guest speaker, the legendary James Hird, who captivated everyone with stories from his AFL career and reflections on leadership, resilience, and teamwork.
In a heartfelt finale, the Veneto Club proudly presented representatives from the Royal Children’s Hospital with a $5,617 donation, supporting the hospital’s vital work in improving the lives of children and families in need.
With another successful event complete, a special thank you to our generous players, volunteers, and supporters whose continued support makes this event — and its positive community impact — possible year after year.
Be sure to mark your calendars for March 2026. Our next Charity Golf Day promises to be bigger and better, and another unforgettable event filled with fun, friendship, and community spirit – all for a cause.

On Monday night, May 19, 2025, the Veneto Club marked National Volunteers Week with our annual appreciation dinner—a night dedicated entirely to the remarkable individuals who drive the heart and soul of our Club.
The evening was a special celebration, featuring a wonderful banquet of great food and, more importantly, a chance to hear inspiring, heartfelt stories. Volunteers shared their personal connection with the Club, detailing what ignites their passion and drives them to be part of their respective groups.
On behalf of the VC Board and Management team, we extend our deepest gratitude. Your efforts have been, and continue to be, the backbone of the culture of our great Club. We are truly blessed to have such an incredible group of dedicated people.

Our Volunteer of the Year: Rick Gatto
The pinnacle of the evening was the announcement of our Volunteer of the Year: Rick Gatto. Rick's dedication to the Club’s bocce program is legendary. His involvement began in his youth, and for over two decades, he has been an indispensable force, particularly with the Special Olympics Bocce program. His long-standing commitment embodies the spirit of selflessness and service.
Bocce, in its current form and success, would simply not have survived to this day without Rick's tireless contribution and leadership.
Congratulations, Rick! Your example inspires us all.
If you are interested in volunteering in some capacity, we would love to hear from you. Please drop us a quick email at culture@venetoclub.com, and we will put you in touch with a suitable team.
Application forms for nominating candidates for the Volunteer of the Year Award can be obtained at reception.

The President’s Gala Dinner, held in June, was a truly magnificent evening. Band Siesta Cartel set the tone with their fantastic music, creating an unforgettable atmosphere. It was a night filled with music, dancing, laughter, and delicious food – a wonderful celebration of the dedication and hard work shown throughout the year by our President, Louis Crema, the Board and supporting committees.

Throughout the year, our Wine Nights are a highlight for all. Guests enjoy carefully curated tastings, each perfectly paired with a specially designed menu to complement the wines.

AUGUST 2025
This year saw our inaugural Annual Salami Festa, held over the weekend of 30-31 August.
The flavour-packed event was very well attended, despite some poor weather on the Saturday. Luckily most stalls were under cover.
Over 25 stallholders quickly got busy preparing tastings and selections for sale. Other stalls were showcasing and selling expert hardware required to make the perfect salami.
Salami stalls and tastings were the order of the day, but there was a large variety of food to choose from, including Calamari, Pizza, Panzerotti, and a wide variety of deserts. Art, clothing and jewellery stalls ensured there was something for everyone.
The Veneto Club bar, café, panini and deli stand did brisk business all day ensuring patrons were kept refreshed. Thanks to Celico Stocco for building the bar. Chief of Staff Fabiana ensured those serving were duly organised as well as providing a welcoming face upon entry.
The weekend was filled with nonstop entertainment. From informative demonstrations and the soulful sounds of Jazz, Folk Band Rustica, and the Veneto Choir, there was always something to see and hear.
A roaming accordion player filled the air with that classic Italian vibe, while the fantastic MC James Liotta kept everything running like clockwork. Let’s not forget Massimo Corrente who had the crowd entertained and

engaged throughout both days.
Thank you to our Gold and Silver sponsors – Barry Plant and Chef Calamari respectively. Both showed great faith in the event by signing up without hesitation as the first two sponsors.
A special thank you to our judges for their energy not only on the day but also for spreading word about the event:
• Dave Cann from Cleaver Salumi Cabinets
• Stefano Baggio from The Artisan’s Bottega
• Tony Tardio, 3AW journalist and Rete Italia
• Mayor Deirdre Diamante, City of Manningham
We had over 130 entries for the best salami competition giving the judges a lot of work to do. Thank you to all that entered. Congratulations to competition winners:
Best Salami
1st Anthony Galante & Robert Cavarsan, Salami Appreciation Society
2nd Tim Fleet, Bullano Short Goods
3rd Giovanni Palmieri
Best Innovative Salami
1st Joe Garofalo
I’d like to thank board members
Edda Lyons, Fabio Sandonà and Dino De Bortoli; courtesy bus drivers Paul Bastasin and Trent Pozzebon, First Traffic Management, for donating their help throughout both days. A big thank
you to Louis Crema and the boys from Crema Group for tireless efforts to make the day a success, they filled in all our gaps.
Of course, thanks the team that organised the event: Sonya Velo, Guido Bonanni, Kon Monos and Francesca Daniele. It was a great experience to be working with you, thank you for your patience and bearing with me. I think the result is a great reflection on all your efforts. The biggest thank you from the bottom of our hearts, goes to all who were present on the day to make our inaugural Salami Festa a success. The team is already planning for an even bigger and better event next year, so start organising ingredients and ideas for your 2026 salami entry!

SEPTEMBER 2025
September saw the Footy Feast Panel Show come to the Veneto Club. A fabulous night for the Carlton Fans with amazing stories from the panel of David Parkin, Stephen Kernahan, Anthony Koutoufides & Greg Williams.

OCTOBER 2025

On Thursday, 9th October 2025, the Veneto Club hosted a special screening of the Pellegrini docu-movie, attracting a full house of around 400 guests. The evening began with entertainment by Nicolino Di Sipio and Frank Lolito. The beautifully crafted film celebrates the legacy of Pellegrini Bar and the late Sisto Malaspina, highlighting the Italian community’s influence on Melbourne’s coffee and food culture. The screening ended with heartfelt applause. The Club thanked Rob Gabriel and Frank Lolito for creating and sharing this remarkable film.

Oaks Day 2025 was a colourful celebration, with over 100 guests glammed up and enjoying a fabulous day among friends. Music and dancing kept everyone entertained between the race events, while fashion took centre stage with prizes awarded for Best Outfit, Best Shoes, and Best Hat. A big thank you to Renata, Andrew, Marina, Michael and Francesca for running the sweeps and lending a hand throughout the day — your efforts helped make the event a wonderful success!

In a quiet corner of the Veneto Club (La Baracca or the Sports Bar), something powerful happens on the first Tuesday of the month. There’s no sound of saws or hammers, no scent of fresh wood shavings. Instead, you’ll find the hum of conversation, the shared comfort of a light meal, and the occasional roar of laughter. This is The Men’s Shed @ Veneto Club, and its motto, “We Turn Minds, Not Wood,” signals a vital mission: building stronger, healthier men through connection and conversation.
For nearly five years, this initiative has filled a critical gap in the Manningham area and beyond, creating a safe, welcoming haven for men of all ages and walks of life. It was born from a simple but profound need—a dedicated place where men could step away from the pressures of daily life, meet others, and talk openly, reinforcing the core belief that prevention is always better than a cure.
The Shed’s success is undeniable. With a vibrant online community of over 600 members, its monthly gatherings from March to October (and the first Wednesday of November) have become a cornerstone of the local social calendar, with events attracting as many as 250 men.
But what exactly happens at a meeting? It’s a carefully crafted recipe
for wellbeing. Men gather, share a light bite to eat, and listen to a diverse lineup of engaging keynote speakers. The roster is intentionally varied, featuring everything from raw, powerful stories shared by men who have lived with depression and anxiety, to practical advice from medical professionals. The stage has also been graced by sports stars sharing lessons in resilience and the odd comedian reminding everyone of the healing power of laughter. This blend of education, empathy, and entertainment provides a crucial "time out" and equips men with new perspectives and tools for their mental health.
The impact of this work has not gone unnoticed. In a proud moment for its dedicated team of seven volunteers, The Men’s Shed @ Veneto Club was honoured by the Manningham City Council in September 2025 with the Award for Community Wealth and Wellbeing. This prestigious accolade formally recognised the group's significant and positive contribution to the social fabric of the local community.
The Men’s Shed @ Veneto Club is more than just a monthly meeting—it’s a lifeline, a community, and a proactive force for men’s mental health. It’s a place where it’s okay not to be okay,
and where a simple conversation can be the first step toward a healthier mind.

Come along and be part of a community that’s proving that when men support each other, everyone grows stronger.

To mark the beginning of the second year of the Women’s Circle, we were honoured to welcome Denise Scott as our keynote speaker. A much-loved comedian, Denise captivated the 150-strong audience with a heartfelt and humorous recount of her cancer journey. Her excitement was evident as she recognised old school friends in the crowd, sharing witty anecdotes about them, the “Burra Boys,” and her 16th birthday celebrations.
Fitness professional Bree Paynter brought her vibrant and genuine passion for wellbeing to the event. Bree spoke about the importance of physical activity and reassured attendees that it is never too late to begin exercising.
Financial independence was the focus of Claudia Rigoni-Brazzale, who emphasised the importance of taking a proactive approach to planning for retirement. She provided valuable insights into aged care reforms, superannuation, and investment strategies.
Addressing one of the most critical issues facing women today, Jilly Charlwood from Our Watch delivered a sobering yet hopeful message on ending violence against women. She highlighted the role each of us plays in driving cultural change and commended the Women’s Circle for its commitment to raising awareness and promoting safety for all.

Author and hypnotherapist Eleni Mitas shared her personal story, encouraging women to break free from patterns of self-doubt. She reminded the audience of the importance of treating ourselves with kindness and compassion when making life decisions.
Lyrian Fleming-Parsley from Cancer Council Victoria highlighted the significant contributions Victorians have made to cancer research globally. She outlined valuable resources and support services available to individuals and families navigating a cancer diagnosis.
Amelia Suckling from Dementia Australia shed light on a topic that affects many families and communities. Amelia discussed the early signs, stages, and impacts of dementia, offering practical advice on how to support loved ones living with the condition.
The Women’s Circle continues to serve as a beacon of empowerment, fostering a community where women can share experiences, learn, and grow together. As we look ahead to the coming year, we are excited to present another inspiring program of speakers and events.

7:30 pm, Second Tuesday of each month — March to November.

The year has been one of progress, perseverance, and multiple challenges for the Veneto Club community. Our programs have continued to thrive, powered by the enthusiasm of players, the dedication of volunteers, and the commitment of families and sponsors who bring life to the Veneto Club.
In a year marked by ongoing construction challenges and restricted facility access, our community showed remarkable adaptability and unity. The shared determination to make every sporting moment count has been a defining feature of this year.
Participation growth across all codes Bocce, Tennis, Squash, Basketball, Futsal, and Football, reflecting the Club’s ongoing focus on inclusive opportunities. Whether on court, pitch, or field, each program reinforces the Club’s purpose: to nurture talent, inspire enjoyment, and build lasting connections through sport.
Bocce remains a cherished and culturally significant sport within our community. Participation has grown across both formal competitions and social evenings, creating opportunities for players of all ages to come together. Led by the dedication of Sonya Velo, the Bocce community continues to thrive, and we look forward to hosting further tournaments and social events in the year ahead.
Our tennis program enjoyed another strong year, welcoming new players into coaching, competition, an internal academy and social play. Courts have been active throughout the season, supported by school programs, clinics, and an inclusive approach that encourages participation at any level.
The Elite Gym has thrived under the leadership of Nick and Alessandro, becoming a genuine hub for health, fitness, and connection. Their professionalism, care, and ability to bring people together have strengthened both the gym and tennis communities. We thank them for the positive environment they continue to build.
Squash participation is steady across both social and state pennant competitions. We thank Matthew Waters and Libero Dalla Zuanna for their voluntary hours they give to the players and patrons who attend each week. The commitment to the squash members has ensured the program remains active, inclusive, and welcoming for all involved.
Veneto Club Golf maintained consistent attendance at its weekend events, followed by valued social interaction within the Club. Led by the tireless coordination of Oscar Forte, the section continues to operate smoothly and successfully. Congratulations to our Club Champion and best wishes to all members competing into 2026.

The multi-sport court continues to be one of the most active areas of the Club, hosting an ever-expanding calendar of basketball and futsal programs at both competitive and social levels. This year, it proudly staged the Victorian State Basketball Championships and several major boxing finals, attracting athletes and spectators from across the state. The strong demand for access highlights the Veneto Club’s reputation as a leading sporting destination in Melbourne’s east, and we remain focused on creating new opportunities to support the growing interest in indoor sport.
Football is by far the largest sporting program within the Club, attracting hundreds of players across multiple pathways. The Junior Boys NPL program closed its final year in the JBNPL structure as the most successful junior boys’ program in the system’s history, an achievement we are exceptionally proud of. All four age groups again qualified for Division One, three reached Preliminary Finals, and our U16s qualified for the State Championship Final before falling narrowly to Melbourne City.
More than 20 players were invited into A-League & Academy environments, continuing a long tradition of developing intelligent, technical footballers. As we transition into the new BVYPL1 structure, Bulleen has already been recognised as a market leader in youth development, reflecting years of sustained excellence.
Our U16 Development Squad achieved further success, winning the Northwest Championship, demonstrating the value of providing multiple teams, programs, and homes for players to learn, grow, and enjoy football.
The U19s VPL1 group completed a clean sweep, crowned champions after a dominant season, while our Senior Men displayed an exceptional first half of the campaign before the second half shifted momentum. Youth involvement

created strong foundations, and with refreshed coaching leadership, we look forward to a new chapter built on hunger, identity, and pathway progression.
Our women’s program enjoyed overall success, with several young debutants stepping confidently into U20s and senior football. Our Senior Women again reached the latter stages of both league and cup competitions, continuing to be one of Victoria’s most consistent performers with several players signing A-League Women contracts, including Danella Butrus (Melbourne City), Paige Zois (Adelaide United), and Ava Briedis (Canberra United), reinforcing the strength of our female development pathway.
Junior Girls teams performed strongly across all age groups, highlighted by top four finishes at U20, U17, and 15s levels. The sustained success of our girls and women’s football environment is a testament not only to results, but

also to the daily development and support delivered by coaches and staff.
The 2025 trip to the Veneto region of Italy again provided unforgettable experiences for our youth players, offering exposure to UEFA-licensed coaching and matches against Italian youth sector academies. These opportunities develop football intelligence, cultural understanding, and personal growth.
MiniRoos participation remains strong, with a vast number of players from U7 to U13 forming the heartbeat of our Club. We thank Gary Hughes for his outstanding support of the program and acknowledge all coaches and team managers for their commitment and care of this program.
Our Cubs Program, led by Dennis Della Costa, continues to flourish, introducing young players to the game. Dennis also oversees our All-Abilities Program, offering a safe, inclusive,

and joyful environment for participants each Saturday, an initiative we are incredibly proud to support.
The success of this year would not be possible without the countless hours contributed by volunteers, administrators, parents, coaches, and committees. This season was particularly challenging due to severe limitations on space and scheduling, yet our community remained patient, respectful, and supportive.
We extend our gratitude to:
The Veneto Club Committee
The FC Bulleen Lions Committee
All coaching staff and team managers
All volunteers and all our sponsors and supporters.
We are also deeply grateful for the continued support of our sponsors, whose commitment enables investment in facilities, equipment, and financial accessibility. Their contribution remains one of our greatest competitive advantages.

Looking ahead, 2026 presents significant opportunities for growth and development, including the launch of the BVYPL1 competition model, increasing demand for indoor sport, a refreshed pathway for senior men’s and women’s football, continued leadership in our Club, and the expansion of community participation programs.
The Veneto Club remains committed to providing clear pathways, fostering a sense of belonging, and creating opportunities for all athletes. The achievements of 2024/25 reflect the dedication and professionalism of our players, coaches, volunteers, committee members, supporters, and sponsors.
We thank everyone for their ongoing contribution and look forward to building on this success in 2026.

At present, Bocce at the Veneto Club is in a rebuilding stage; however, we have a solid foundation to ensure the sport remains an important part of the Club for many years to come.
The work and dedication of Sonya Velo should not be underestimated. Initiatives such as the U3A (University of Third Age) programs. Corporate bocce functions, Bocce Slam, Ultimate Bocce, #VCBocce Thursday Nights, and various social school visits have kept the sport active and visible. During 2025, we were privileged to host two Italian bocce champions who inspired both school teachers and players alike with their insights into game development.
Sonya’s tireless commitment to the game has rightly earned her the nickname “Queen of Bocce.” We extend our sincere thanks to Sonya and to all the volunteers who have contributed their time and effort to improving bocce at the Club. It is easy to talk about making a difference, but it takes true dedication to take action and make things happen.
A special mention must also go to Pasquale Marinelli and Bruna Rubin, who have been running the Wednesday Night Competition for many years. While numbers have slowly declined, we encourage members to support and participate in this social and competitive version of bocce. It provides an excellent

opportunity to improve skills and gain experience for marquee competitions.
The Special Olympics Melbourne Inner Eastern and Northern Saturday Bocce Program continues to run successfully, averaging around 20 players per training session. In early October, the team participated in the State Games held in Sebastopol, Ballarat. A particularly noteworthy performance came from Robert Bordin, who, after an unfortunate fall, showed great courage and commitment to continue competing and ultimately won medals in the singles, doubles, and teams events. We wish him a speedy recovery.
We are now in the final planning stages for the 2025 Bocce Slam, which promises to be another exciting event with cash prizes and medals up for grabs. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our major sponsor, CO.AS.IT., for their continued support in enabling us

to host these events and for helping make our bocce competitions such a success.
As the holiday season approaches, we wish everyone a safe and joyful Christmas. May Santa bring you a new set of bocce balls — and we look forward to seeing you all back on the bocce courts in the new year!
For any bocce related queries please email culture@venetoclub.com and we will put you in touch with the relevant contacts.

This year’s golf getaway took us to Moama, North-Eastern Victoria, where perfect weather greeted our 34 players and partners for a long weekend of golf, food, and laughter.
The resort was once again fully booked by our group, with members contributing an incredible spread of homemade treats — smallgoods, cakes, biscuits, wines, and limoncello.
A highlight was Frank Dal Santo’s famous frittole, a closely guarded family recipe, followed by a slowcooked spit roast on the final day.
Golf was played over two days at the stunning Rich River Country Club using the Four Ball Best Ball format — competitive yet relaxed, and thoroughly enjoyable for all.
"Perfect weather, great golf, and even better company – Moama never disappoints."
Membership has shown a pleasing increase in 2025, and we warmly welcome new members for the coming season.
• Annual membership: $55, including automatic raffle entry, plus complimentary water and fruit at each game.
• We especially encourage lady golfers to join our friendly group — it’s not only about the sport but the wonderful friendships formed along the way.

Another jam-packed year for Squash at the Veneto Club in 2025.
The year started off with our annual Golden Lion Competition, our summer competition open to all pennant and social members. The Grand Final was won by David Ackland who beat Shankar Raju-Devadoss. Well done, David!
The Autumn Season of the Club Circuit Competition saw two of our three teams (D2 & F2) play off in the Grand Finals of their divisions. Both teams played well, but unfortunately narrowly missed out finishing runners-up. A great effort by all involved.
The Grand Finals were held at the Kooyong Tennis Courts and it was very pleasing that our teams were
well supported by families and other Veneto Club members. Our other team narrowly missed the Grand Final and was hampered throughout the year with injuries to key players.
The Spring season is also proving to be very successful for the Veneto Club’s three teams. With one game to go, each team look set to play finals, and two teams have secured a Grand Final spot. Good luck to all the players!
Between seasons, we once again held the annual Bert Caneva Veneto Club Championships-a long-standing knockout competition, open to all squash members. This year’s final was between defending champion David Ackland and Nick Vitinaros. A great tight game saw David come out on top to defeat Nick.

As usual we were honoured to have Bert Caneva’s partner, Barbara and daughter, Michele on hand to present the trophy, and enjoyed a celebratory dinner afterwards. The Caneva family is a fantastic supporter of Veneto Squash, and we thank them and appreciate their support each year. Squash at the Veneto Club has faced some challenges of late in maintaining and growing its membership. This year we increased our membership slightly which is great considering the tough times people are experiencing, as well as ongoing disruptions surrounding the Veneto Club.
Hopefully, with some success at a pennant level and squash now being an Olympic sport, we may see more people return to the game, which we need to capitalize on to further increase our numbers. It’s up to our Squash members to promote, not only the Veneto Squash Club, but the Veneto Club as a community, cultural and sporting Club.
Overall, 2025 has been a successful year for the Squash at the Veneto Club.

Tennis at the Veneto Club over the past 12 months has been very active, with competition teams, coaching, match play and social events.
Our junior players have had some fantastic results over the year at all levels of tennis. Scarlett Dattoli played in her first Grand Slam event at the Junior Australian Open and moved into the top 200 in the world on the junior rankings. Kiaan Kottoor was a semi-finalist at his first Nationals, and there were six players who headed to America on scholarships to play US College.
Coaching numbers remained strong with over 320 participants per week, and holiday programs have become very popular at the club. The Vida coaching program is continuing to be led by former Davis & Fed Cup captain of the Philippines Karl Santamaria and Maxi Blasic.
Tennis lessons are available for all ages and run six days per week. Programs include Hot Shots kids group lessons, development & performance squads, private lessons, and adult programs. Vida offers a free intro lesson to help get you started, which can be booked on https://www. vidatennis.com.au/free-intro/
Vida Tennis was selected to be one of ten Tennis Australia National Talent Hubs. To be selected and endorsed as a Talent Hub, coaching programs need to have a proven track record of highlevel player development, adherence to national standards, and focus on nurturing young talent through structured training and development pathways. Vida and the Club look forward to working closely with Tennis Australia to help develop, support, and transition juniors on their tennis journey.
Veneto Club had three teams that competed in the NENGT night competition for the Autumn & Spring seasons. The teams play home & away fixtures on a Tuesday night starting from 7 pm each week.
Sunday Morning Junior Competition saw nine Veneto Club teams compete in the Eastern Region Tennis

Association competition in the past Summer and Winter seasons. It is great to see the courts full of junior players on a Sunday morning each week wearing the Veneto Club shirts. It was great to have current WTA player Jaimee Fourlis back at the Veneto training throughout the last year on the same courts she grew up on as a junior.
Ten lucky junior players from the club got the opportunity to play on Rod Laver Arena on Kids Tennis Day with current top 10 professional players to launch the Australian Open. It was an amazing experience for them to walk out to a full stadium, play on the court, and spend time with Hot Shots ambassadors Alex de Minaur

and Ajla Tomljanovic. Thanks to Vida coaches Kane Dewhurst and Ashleigh Richardson for arranging the opportunity.
The online court booking system continues to enable more people to access the tennis courts for social play. In the coming year we look forward to increasing all the tennis playing opportunities at the club for our members and the local community.
New members are always welcome, as are casual court hires. Both can be done on the tennis website – https://play. tennis.com.au/venetoclubtennis/ Membership/Join

It’s truly remarkable how quickly another year has flown by — and with great pleasure, we take a moment to reflect on the special moments that made it so memorable.
First and foremost, a heartfelt thank you to our incredible volunteers. Through your dedication and generosity, we raised $12,000 for the Veneto Club through raffles and product sales. Your spirit is the heartbeat of this group. We are also delighted to welcome our newest volunteer, Eda Conte, and extend our sincere thanks to our generous sponsors, Amici Clothing, Nadia Silky Scarves and Jewellery, and Lino & Mary Serato and Di Censo Butcher, for their continued support.
This year, our fundraising efforts also supported a wonderful initiative by the Women’s Circle, helping cover the cost of a guest speaker from Dementia Australia — an important event

The Ladies Auxiliary proudly represented the Veneto Club at the Festa della Repubblica event in Epping, where we hosted a stall and sold our homemade frittole and crostoli. Earlier in the year, we also made and sold frittole and crostoli at the Sagra di San Marco and at the inaugural Salami Festa, supporting these vibrant Veneto Club events. Many guests were introduced to frittole for the first time — and warmly embraced the opportunity to enjoy this regional treat.
We hope to continue recreating these joyful experiences, sharing the tastes and traditions of the Veneto region with our broader community.
Our seasonal lunches remain a highlight of the year, bringing together familiar faces and new friends around the

What a year it’s been! There’s nothing quite like heading off to a country festival in places like Myrtleford or Daylesford — the laughter, the songs, and the sense of togetherness make these trips something truly special for our choir. The bus rides are half the fun: we sing, we share stories, and by the time we’re heading home, our hearts are full of music and our stomachs full of delicious food (often lovingly prepared by friends and family who join us).
As always, our calendar has been packed with performances — from lively festivals to heartfelt visits at aged-care homes. Many of our regular hosts continue to invite us back year after year, a real testament to the

friendships we’ve built and the joy our music brings. We’re proud to have earned a reputation as one of the leading Italian club-based choirs in Victoria, and we wear that badge with pride.
Our 2025 Annual Showcase Concert, “Il Giro d’Italia Musicale,” was once again a highlight of the year — taking audiences on a musical journey through the regions of Italy, from the snowy peaks of the north to the sunny beaches of the south.
This year’s concert sparkled even brighter thanks to our special guests — the Legends of Brass Band, whose rich, powerful sound filled the sala, and the Brunswick South Primary School Children’s Choir, who brought smiles to every face in the room. Together, we created something truly special, showing how much we’ve grown in
teamwork, confidence, and heart.
A big thank you to our committee, always full of enthusiasm and fresh ideas, and to our wonderful conductor, Giuliano Di Ienno, whose passion and patience bring out the best in us week after week.
Special thanks also go to Joe Peruzzi, one of our younger members, whose creativity and dedication have added new life and energy to the group. Bravo, Joe!
As we wrap up 2025, we do so with pride in what we’ve achieved and excitement for what’s to come. With our voices strong and our spirits high, we look forward to an even bigger, brighter, and more musical 2026!
Pasquale Marinelli and Joe Peruzzi

As another year draws to a close, the Gruppo Alpini di Melbourne looks back with pride and gratitude. Our heartfelt thanks go to all members, families, and friends — and especially to the Veneto Club Melbourne — for their ongoing support and warm hospitality.
Although our numbers may be smaller, our spirit remains strong. Each gathering this year has reminded us why the Alpini traditions continue to mean so much: friendship, remembrance, good food, and laughter shared among people who care deeply about their heritage.
We began the year with a moving pilgrimage to the Murchison Cemetery,

where a special Mass honoured the Italian prisoners of war who lost their lives in Victoria during World War II. The service was simple yet deeply touching, a reminder of sacrifice and resilience that still unites us today.
In February, we gathered once again at the Veneto Club to remember the Reduci di Russia — the Italian soldiers who never returned from the Russian front. The Mass was followed by a festive lunch filled with stories, laughter, and the unmistakable warmth of the Alpini spirit.
April brought sunshine and smiles to our Pasquetta celebration at the Baracca. Families and friends came together to share delicious food, good wine, and plenty of laughter. The day was a wonderful reminder that the simplest moments — a meal shared, a song sung — are often the ones we treasure most.
On Anzac Day, we gathered at the Alpini Monument to honour all those who served and sacrificed. The ceremony was followed by Mass and the lively Sagra di San Marco, hosted by the Veneto Club. The Alpini proudly served trippa e polenta, adding our flavours to a feast that brought together the broader Venetian community in true celebration.
In May, we made our annual pilgrimage to Mt Buller, where Mass was celebrated in the beautiful Alpine Chapel, built by the Alpini. Afterward, everyone gathered at the Abom Hotel for a hearty meal, laughter, and friendship — the perfect end to a memorable day in the mountains. Looking forward, the Gruppo Alpini di Melbourne continues to stand for friendship, remembrance, and pride in our heritage. We warmly welcome new members, young and old, to join us — to share in our stories, celebrate our traditions, and help carry forward the spirit of the Alpini for future generations.
With heartfelt thanks once again to the Veneto Club Melbourne for their continued support and generosity.

As we come to the end of another successful year, the Trevisani nel Mondo Melbourne would like to thank the Veneto Club and its members together with the members of our association for their continued support during 2025.
Our year began with the AGM on Sunday, 23rd February 2025. It was a great turnout, and our members enjoyed the supper. During the meeting, we introduced our committee for 2025, and we are pleased to report that membership numbers are steadily increasing.
The first social event for our calendar was the Picnic at the Baracca on Sunday, 2nd March. As always, our members brought along their family and many friends. The committee and volunteers cooked up a wonderful BBQ lunch. This year, the kids enjoyed the Animal Farm and got to pat baby rabbits, chickens and goats. We plan to do more to entertain the children in 2026 to encourage more younger families to attend.
On Friday, 25th April, we celebrated the Sagra di San Marco in the Veneto Club grounds. This event was an opportunity for people to taste traditional Veneto delicacies and for all associations to support the Veneto Club.
Our weekend away to Mt Buller on Saturday, 3rd and Sunday, 4th May, was a great experience shared with the Alpini of Melbourne. We visited Dal Zotto Winery for a wine tasting and

lunch, followed by dinner at the ABOM at Mt Buller. Sunday began with Mass in the little Alpine Chapel and finished with lunch with the Alpini at the ABOM, along with our traditional sing-along of Veneto songs from the past.
Sunday, 25th of May was our Festa di Castagne, a lunch dedicated to chestnuts and ‘Vin Brulé’. This is always our traditional winter luncheon where we enjoy good food and dancing with family and friends.
A day trip to Myrtleford was enjoyed on Saturday, 21st June. This is always a wonderful day shared with the members and friends of the Trevisani of Myrtleford with a stop on the way at the Nut Farm.
The Radicchio Festa was held on Sunday, 13th July and is one of our favourite events, dedicated to the famous ‘radicchio trevigiano’. Radicchio is always on our menu and truly celebrated on this day. The event is highlighted by a massive raffle with many prizes, including bundles of radicchio, and finishes with a lively sing-along.
San Pio X is the Patron Saint of immigrants from Treviso and therefore, the patron saint of Trevisani nel Mondo. On Sunday, 24th August we celebrated with a Mass followed by a sumptuous lunch enjoyed by members, families, and friends.
The success of our events comes down to the dedication and commitment of the committee and

volunteers who help create lasting memories for our members. We would like to thank the many volunteers and sponsors that have made our events truly successful over the past 12 months.
Looking ahead, we plan to host more events for younger people. Our goal for 2026 is to attract a new crowd, the 40- to 60-year-old age group. We are already working on events with new formats that will provide great social opportunities for a younger audience. With the support of our members and the hardworking committee we have much to look forward to for 2026.
We know our members and friends will continue to support and encourage their families and children to carry on the traditions and celebrations that we have held close to our hearts over the years. We hope that future members will remember the past and create memories of their own that will last a lifetime.

From its humble beginnings, our foundation members worked tirelessly to build a space where traditions could thrive, and future generations could stay connected to their roots. Now, you have the opportunity to ensure this legacy continues for years to come.
Leaving a gift in your Will to the Veneto Club is a meaningful way to contribute to help preserve our culture, traditions and community spirit. Every gift, large or small, makes a difference.
Your generosity can help us:
• maintain and upgrade our facilities,
• support cultural, wellbeing and sports programs, and
• host inclusive community events that celebrate our shared heritage.
You can choose to leave:

Making a gift in your Will is simple and impactful. We recommend discussing your intentions with your solicitor, who can ensure the wording reflects your wishes accurately.
Below is an example of suitable wording:
