Cari Membri e Amici,

Cordiali saluti,

LOUIS CREMA Presidente

From the President

Dear Members and Friends

I hope this message finds you well as we approach the festive season.

It is with great pleasure that the Veneto Club presents its Annual Magazine for 2024.

This year has presented some challenges, particularly with the ongoing roadworks on Bulleen Road and changes to our carpark. For those who were unable to attend our AGM in June, I want to inform you that our financial position has been affected due to these works, leading to a significant decline in patronage, especially in our Gaming area.

Despite these difficulties, our Bistro and functions have held up remarkably well. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we navigate these changes. I assure you that upon completion of the road works, the improvements will greatly enhance our club and contribute to our future success.

I encourage you to continue supporting our Club during this challenging period. Your patronage is vital to help us through these times.

I am also pleased to announce the appointment of our new General Manager, Mr Kon Monos, effective October 1, 2024. Kon brings valuable experience from managing previous Italian clubs, and we are excited to welcome him as he leads us forward in a manner similar to our former General Manager, Mr Joe Morello. Please join me in making Kon feel at home in our community.

Joe will remain with us transitioning to the role of Executive Manager, with adjusted hours accordingly. He will mentor Kon for a brief period and will also work alongside Frank Freschi and myself to engage with the NorthEast Link Authority, ensuring the best long-term outcomes for our Club. Additionally, Joe will collaborate with our Sports Manager, Karl Hodge, and Vice President Ivan Anzanello, to oversee our football, other sports initiatives, and sponsorships across all Club activities.

I want to take this opportunity to thank Joe Morello, both personally and on behalf of the Club, for his nearly 20 years of dedicated service. His commitment has been invaluable, and I am grateful that he will continue to be a presence at the Club.

I extend my heartfelt thanks to my committee for their hard work and dedication, as well as to all our sub-committees, volunteers, and the Ladies Auxiliary. Your contributions are vital to our success and greatly appreciated.

Wishing you all a happy and safe Christmas. I look forward to seeing you around the Club.

Warm regards,

From the Vice President

Dear Members,

I wish to thank our members for their support and encouragement extended to me during my first year in the role of Vice President. We sit in these roles as temporary custodians on behalf of members past and present and I note this is truly an honour.

These are interesting times we live in at present. The world appears a different place post covid. There seems to be some unrest globally, and the Veneto Club is also living through a difficult period of our history. The Northeast Link Project (NELP) is causing headaches to our members and operationally we are being challenged. We take pride in our history, so I implore members to stay strong as we navigate through these challenges.

The Veneto flag adorns a lion and google says lions represent protection, strength, wisdom and courage. These are all traits that characterize the Venetian people. In our wisdom the Sala Venezia project is on hold at present. It is bound to be the largest redevelopment project ever undertaken since the club opened. One day when the planets align, I would suggest we need to have the courage to undertake that project. Timing is important and the present board is mindful of the financial obligations this project will incur, so it has been temporarily put on hold.

In the current year Joe Morello and his team have worked diligently to continue and develop our dining and entertainment experiences. Joe has been a great servant of the club and central to our success in the last 20 years. He has recently transitioned to the role of Executive Manger where he is truly needed to manage NELP, assist in our growing football department and working on special projects, including overseeing capital works on our aging facilities. Let me also note our recent appointment of Kon Monos as General Manager - we welcome Kon who brings a wealth of experience which will serve the club well in the years to come.

One special project in the planning phase at present is the members sports bar redevelopment. This area has aged and is in need, of a facelift. The football community have communicated loud and clear of their needs regarding that space. I look forward to seeing this become a reality, attracting new patronage and ask for your support once this new facility is opened.

In regard to our sports and football club management I would like to acknowledge the efforts of Karl Hodge and his team who have continued to drive success throughout all levels in the different sports.

One exciting development in the football operations relates to the facilities at Powerful Owl Park (Templestowe Road). As part of NELP, predominantly and on the back of the efforts of Joe Morello, Louie Crema and Frank Freschi, we were granted a licence in the inaugural year for the use of three new pitches and the sporting pavilion which includes kiosk facilities and a large meeting room. The future will determine what effect these facilities will have on the operational success of Bulleen Lions, but I have high expectations that this will be a defining moment in our history.

During the last year, the Bulleen Lions management team continued to work hard and evolve with an emphasis to have better engagement with our stakeholders,

namely supporters past and present and our invaluable sponsors. In July 2024 the Bulleen Lions celebrated 50 years and I can report the event was an outstanding success. I want to extend thanks to the organising committee for all their efforts.

Across all operations at the Veneto Club, we are blessed to have some incredible people working for the common cause to make the Veneto Club the iconic institution it is in the Italian community. To all the volunteers who are involved in the associations, sporting bodies. special cultural events, I applaud you all and say thank you. Your efforts have made our club what we are today.

In concluding I want to thank my fellow board members. It has truly been a pleasure to work with you and note our unity is certainly a trait I am proud of within this group. In particular, I note it has been a privilege to work with Lou Crema and thank him for his leadership and continued support in all he does for our great Club.

From the Vice President

Another year has passed, and it seems that time goes by more quickly. We are now five decades young as a Club; I choose to say young not old – as old makes us seem less in tune with the times – and I don’t think we are that.

As you drive towards the Club, it’s an ever-changing landscape, honestly, it’s not pretty at all, and at times quite precarious. I know that Frank & Joe in their roles on the NELP Steering Group, are fighting hard to get us the best possible outcome, for a magnificent entrance once the roadworks are completed. It seems like that’s a long way off, but I’m sure that this time next year we will have edged closer to seeing that progress somewhat. It’s the pain before the gain – as that saying goes.

Its exciting to see that our membership numbers are on an upwards trajectory and the age profile of our membership is becoming younger. The challenge now is to ensure that we meet their needs and continue to branch out into diverse event offerings that are appealing. A challenge that I’m sure the Clubs management team and functions team will embrace in 2025.

One of the best characteristics of the Veneti and our Club is that we have always embraced change, challenges and unfavourable conditions. If you don’t move with the times, you become irrelevant and lose your place. We want the Club to continue to be one of the best in Australia for us and generations to come. This year we have made some changes in our management structure and welcomed Kon as our new General Manager. His transition into the role has been smooth thanks to the collaboration with Joe, as he too takes on the new role as Executive Manager, focusing on initiatives, that require dedicated attention to position the Club for greater (financial) success as we move into 2025 and beyond.

Our sporting contribution to the community is mammoth. Between all our sports offerings of football, bocce, squash and tennis on site we would easily have around a thousand participants, wearing our Club logo, representing our Club, and traffic through our grounds. Our sporting department has itself some challenges ahead with the sporting codes, be it the code structure or the negotiation of access to grounds offsite, to ensure that we have adequate facilities for all our teams. There is an extraordinary amount of effort, planning, meeting and negotiating to put the Club in the strong position for the benefit of the players. Karl Hodge flanked by his FCBL team, and Ivan and Joe are working endlessly for the best results for the Club and all its players. This is some of the intense work that goes on behind the scenes that may not be visible to many of us.

This year we started the Women’s Circle – a ladies spin off from the Men’s Shed. As an inaugural year, the planning team have really found their place and held nine great evenings featuring a range of speakers on Women’s health and wellbeing issues. I’m sure that next year the Women's Circle will grow and expand their offerings – as there is certainly a demand for these types of events.

Change, if embraced with a positive mindset can be a wonderful experience, and bring about some new opportunities. I personally am looking forward to seeing the transformation of the members bar into a sports bar. Buzzing with activity frequented by all the sporting codes at the Club…. I’m looking forward to watching the 2025 grand final there with a hundred or so fellow members – will you join me there? – as I’m sure that the functions team will put on a stellar event on that day.

Last year I closed with - Thank you to all the members for being part of our journey and supporting our continued existence! Thank you to all the volunteers – you are the heartbeat of our club. Thank you to my fellow committee members past & present for our collaboration on steering the Club in the right direction to ensure we have a positive future, especially Lou who continues to be inspiring, generous, and positive as a leader. And last of all, thank you to all the foundation members who had a dream to create the Veneto Club, and with determination, vision, sacrifice, and hard work – made that dream come true so that it could, and is, now enjoyed by generations to come. That’s perfect!

There’s so much to do, and so many opportunities for us to be bigger and better and thrive even more. Join me and the fabulous committee that I’m a part of as we take on 2025 – with gusto!

BARRO GROUP PROUDLY SUPPORTING THE VENETO CLUB

From the Secretary

This past year has been very busy for the Veneto Club. The board has been working to improve our governance, starting with the establishment of a Finance, Risk, Audit & Compliance Committee. This committee is an advisory group that will provide support and advice to the Board in discharging its responsibilities with respect to: 1. Financial and performance reporting, 2. Risk Management, 3. Protection and control of the Club’s assets, 4. the Club’s governance practices, and 5. the External audit process.

The Committee consists of three experts in this field (who are Veneto Club members) and two board members. The Committee will have its first meeting in the near future, then gradually update the board with recommendations on a regular basis.

Next, the Board will set up a Strategic Planning and Governance Committee to prepare long-term sporting, business, social and cultural strategies. This Committee will also be an advisory body providing support and advice to the Board, so that the Club can grow and be prepared for the future to ensure we are still active and relevant for future decades. The board will seek expressions of interest from members who are willing to be a part of this committee in the new year, once we have developed the Terms of Reference, so look out for this..

Despite the road works effecting access, our membership numbers are strong and continue to rise. Currently we have 1,469 members, compared to this time last year when we had 1,410. Its pleasing to see that just over one-third of our members are females. Another great indicator is the average age of members is now less than 70 years, reflecting many of our new members are younger.

The Board appreciates the support of all our members and their families. With your commitment, support and presence at Club activities, entertainment shows, bistro and sporting events the Club is flourishing and continues to grow. Thank you and Season Greetings.

Grazie e Buone Feste.

Financials for the financial Year 1 May 2023 – 30th April 2024

This was another challenging year for the Club. After a number of difficult years through Covid and road disruption we are continuously faced with having to manage the club activities through major interruptions, this time due to the NELP road works and Bulleen Road realignment which have caused inconvenience to management, members, and patrons. Due to these difficulties last year, we made a loss of $970,000 as was reported at our AGM in June. This loss was mainly due to the major shortfall in Gaming revenue compared to prior years. Nevertheless, the board and management continue to provide our members with the events, facilities, benefits and cultural activities that may not contribute significant revenue for the club. The board felt that it was essential that the Veneto Club maintain its core values and cultural activities for its members.

Our cash holding is very healthy with more than $2.7 million held in various accounts and floats. Our gaming licence fees are now being paid and it remains the major debt of the club with gaming licence total, of $2.2 million to be paid at $100,000 per quarter over next 7 years.

Membership at the end of April 2024 was 1,469. This is the highest during my tenure on the committee. The Committee has been working to recover the reduced membership from the Covid period with a membership drive targeting Veneto descendants which has been quite successful. We ask all members to continue to support the club by renewing membership and to introduce friends and family to the wonderful facilities and culture of the club.

May to October 2024

Our operations for this period continue to be very difficult with revenue for Food, Beverage, Deli and Sports close to our expectations. Our Gaming revenue recovery is proceeding more slowly than anticipated but in recent months we have seen an encouraging increase in activity mainly due to new initiatives introduced by management. The new members Loyalty Program is now having an effect, and Gaming in recent months is close to our expectations with many patrons returning to our club. It is hoped that once Bulleen Road is completed and our car park returned to more practical access that gaming patrons will return in greater numbers to enjoy our facilities and profits return to appropriate levels.

Our sports program was very successful during the recently completed football season with significant increase in sponsors and registered participants. Karl Hodge, and his FCBL team worked tirelessly on the 50th anniversary events and their efforts significantly improved the financial position of FCBL and sports as a whole. We are now looking forward to a three-pitch facility on Templestowe Road Bulleen that has been assigned to FCBL and the Veneto Club from October 2024. We plan to make significant use of it and enable us to expand FCBL participation further.

Our current cash position is still strong, and we continue to invest in capital works to improve our facilities. Last year we upgraded the Barraca and this year we upgraded the Basketball stadium facilities. Plans are underway for a new members sports bar.

The Committee is focused on continuing to improve the Club’s financial position in all areas to ensure a strong growing facility that continues to support the Veneto sporting activities, heritage and culture, well into the future. This vision cannot be achieved without the continuous support of our management team, their staff and the many volunteers that have contributed during the year to enhance and advance the Veneto Club for the benefit of all members. Thank you to Joe Morello, Kon Monos and their team and all the volunteers for your hard work during this difficult year.

DINO DE BORTOLI

A legend, a place, a myth, Juliet’s House in Verona is one of the most romantic places of Italy, where visitors leave messages of love on the wall. An original photograph of Juliet’s courtyard is the label of Pasqua’s Passione e Sentimento wines, an unmistakable element of their identity. A product of vinous and cultural passion, and an unconventional shakeup on Valpolicella tradition, the Pasqua family allow the grapes harvested for these wines to dry for a brief period before pressing. This Appassimento style concentrates aromas and sugars, making wines of boldness, flamboyance and intensity.

From the Executive Manager

As always, it’s been another eventful year for the Veneto Club. We have successfully celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the clubs opening in our newly refurbished Baracca. We managed to renovate the basketball court bathrooms to align with the newly renovated gymnasium, all while still dealing with the roadworks on Bulleen Road.

Northeast Link and associated roadworks continue to have an enormous effect on our club. Access into the club is a constant topic of discussion, with not only our members but in our negotiations with contractors and the Northeast Link Authority. The roadworks on the Eastern Freeway and on Manningham Road and Banksia Street, are causing traffic delays on Bulleen Road, which, in turn disrupts the flow into the club. Frank Freschi and I, constantly meet with all the relevant stakeholders, in an effort, to achieve the best possible outcome for the Veneto Club. This will continue for quite some time as there is still at least another three years of work before the Northeast Link is complete.

Notwithstanding all the interruptions of the past year, we are heading towards the largest membership number in more than 20 years. This is an incredible result, and one, the club must continue to build upon. The club membership is part of the clubs DNA. It is very important we continue to foster that relationship for future generations. One of the key reasons for the membership growth is the implementation of our new loyalty system that gives all members added incentive to visit the club and use all our facilities.

Another key achievement for the club, is the continued growth and performance of our football club (FCBL) especially our senior women’s team. Our junior teams, both boys & girls, are the highest ranked in Victoria. Our senior women’s team took out many awards this season, a massive achievement and one we should all be very proud of. We are now looking to prepare and build for the 2025 season.

My priorities for the coming year, are to continue to work closely with Northeast Link stakeholders, to improve safety for members and guests visiting the club. Hopefully, this will include the installation of traffic signals at the entrance of Bulleen Road. Later this year, works will also commence on improving our car park lighting, this will enable us to remove the current generators powering the carpark lights.

Also, in the coming months, we hope to commence work on upgrading the members’ bar into a sports bar/ meeting area. This is a new and exciting initiative that has now been approved by the committee and will offer a relaxing bar area, especially for parents and family members of our soccer players, whilst the kids are at training. This renovation will increase the Rialto kitchen’s capability, thus making our production of arancini and polenta chips much more efficient.

I wish all our members and friends a safe, happy and prosperous new year.

JOE MORELLO

From the General Manager

KON MONOS

It is an honour and privilege to be appointed as the Veneto Club’s new General Manager. Prior to accepting this position I was the General Manager of Club Italia Sporting Club, St Albans for six and a half years. I have been in hospitality in one capacity or another for over 37 years, forging and developing what I consider to be sound foundations, knowledge and experience.

I thank Louis and the Board for welcoming me to the club, introducing me to the proud Foundation, Veneto and Associate members. There is a strong cultural history here, celebrating 51 years of the Veneto Club and 50 years of Bulleen Lions FC which is something to be proud of.

The volunteer base at the club is inspirational. How encouraging is it to see the volunteers each week providing welcoming support. Thursday’s Crostoli team each week preparing over 50 boxes for the Deli, Paola and her Frittole classes each month, Men’s Shed, Women’s Circle and the team in football. Admiration!

Joe Morello is still very much involved with the club in his new role as Executive Manager, in charge of Sports, Special Projects and the North East Link. Joe has been instrumental in the success of the club and continuing his legacy is a duty I will not take lightly.

Veneto Rewards was launched in May to coincide with the renewal of memberships. An opportunity to be rewarded by earning bonus points on every purchase with the option of redeeming the points via the bar, bistro or deli. The new Veneto Rewards has been widely accepted and it is encouraging to see the members redeeming their points for goods within the club. Over the next 12 months the club will be adding some great features and opportunities through Veneto Rewards. Watch out for our emails and posters throughout the club.

Bulleen Road, and the NELP are creating unprecedented trading conditions. The Bistro and Function departments are trading well. however the impact on our gaming operations is of concern. The Club has introduced some great

promotional activities including the weekly Thursday’s member’s jackpot which is proving a hit amongst our members. Recently a lucky member won $2500 cash, which member will be next?

I am looking forward to working at the Veneto Club, continuing and upholding its cultural and regular events. If I haven’t met you yet, don’t be shy, please introduce yourself, and let’s enjoy an espresso together.

North East Link Update

The NELP-SPARK construction work along the realigned Bulleen Road on Veneto Club’s doorstep, is progressing at an accelerating pace in 2024. SPARK is using ‘Mined Tunnelling’ and ‘Cut & Cover’ methods in constructing twin underground linking tunnels from Trinity to connect with the two Watsonia launched boring machines as they emerge at the Manningham Interchange in 2026. The tunnel roadways will continue southward under Bulleen Road, to emerge 300m south of Veneto Club’s new front entrance situated at the new major Bulleen Road traffic signalised intersection.

On the western side of the realigned Bulleen Road, the Club will have a controlled coach bus exit, a new concrete/metal fence and safety barrier feature continuing along the entire eastern boundary with Bulleen Road, and the north-bound Bulleen Road Entry slip lane will be restored for Veneto Club patrons’ safety.

The key objective of our Master Plan is to restore 95% of carpark spaces within 125m radius of walking distance to the Clubhouse Reception. It is achieved by swapping land use and relocating six tennis courts onto SPARK-built southern car park. Working in close partnership with NELP/SPARK, MCC and State Government authorities, and together negotiating a Master Plan approval by 2026.

Close to the Club will be two new landmarks which should be completed by 2027 – they are the 53m tall NELP South Tunnel Vent, and the Yarra-Link Land Bridge connecting the east-west sides of Bulleen Road, which straddles the NELP tunnel exits, and Bulleen Roadways that continue southward connecting with the Eastern Freeway Interchange by 2028.

A rendered NELP image gives a realistic perspective when looking north towards the Veneto Club site.

It is an impressive entry portal that is presented to NELP’s north-bound traffic and similarly, visitors to Veneto Club.

I trust this annual report instils confidence for our future beyond the major NELP construction phase and clarity of what the key priorities are in driving Veneto Club’s Negotiating Sub-Committee, as it continues working through to the end of NELP in 2028.

We depend upon and thank you for your continuing support, patronage and loyalty to Veneto Club.

Oaks Day

This event keeps on getting bigger and better each year!

In 2024, well over one hundred ladies (and a few blokes of course) were dressed to impress from head to toe.

The day started with a glass of prosecco on arrival, and then an amazing grazing station which included caviar, cheeses, salami’s and prosciutto, delectable salmon and gorgonzola cones, arancini and calamari – and that was just for starters! From then it was small plates of gnocchi, risotto, mini sliders, and chicken skewers.

For dessert back at the grazing station for mini cannoli, pannacotta, chocolate bites, and donuts.

What an amazing day of food – not to mention the Races.

BARRACCA OPENING – NOVEMBER 2023

50th Anniversary

3-DAY EVENT WEEKEND – DECEMBER 2023

In December 2023 we had a weekend of celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Veneto Club. Kicking off Friday night with a cocktail party to formally acknowledge this golden milestone. Dressed to impress, we were treated to some exquisite Hors D'Oeuvres with hints of Veneto influence.

On Saturday afternoon we went back to where it all started in the 1960’s – the Baracca, where we showed off the newly renovated Baracca at a Members & Families BBQ lunch.

Sunday started with a mass at St Brigids in North Fitzroy. Then we finished off the weekend with a stellar Long Lunch at the Baracca. The Long Lunch was a cross between glamour and rustic. A blend of our beginnings and the modern day.

Men’s Shed@ Veneto Club

The Bulleen Men’s Shed at the Veneto Club provides an informal environment for men to connect and unwind, acknowledging that, often, men carry the weight of daily life without openly discussing their struggles. The typical "she’ll be right" attitude can prevent meaningful conversations about emotional wellbeing, but the Men’s Shed @ Veneto Club aims to create a supportive space to address these issues.

The new look Baracca has become the perfect home for our Men’s Shed nights, featuring guest speakers who cover a broad range of topics. These include mental health issues such as depression and anxiety, as well as lighter subjects like cars and football.

In 2024, Men’s Shed @ Veneto Club, has enjoyed strong attendance and positive feedback. Highlights from the year include an engaging talk by Cardiologist Dr. Julian Yeoh on heart health, attended by over 100 members. We also heard from AFL greats Wayne Johnston and Terry Daniher, as well as fitness expert David Buttifant, who shared insights on resilience. The Honourable Keith Wolahan MP delivered an inspirational speech, while Eleni Mitas wrapped up the year with a crucial discussion on suicide prevention.

With current membership of 600, men of all ages are welcome to come along to La Baracca for our Bulleen Men's Shed @ Veneto Club Meetings – first Tuesday of the month from March to November.

Charity Golf Day

Our annual Charity Golf Day, held in conjunction with Camberwell Golf Club and supporting the Royal Children’s Hospital, took place this March. The event kicked off at dawn with a full card of golfers eager to hit the course, and the excitement was palpable from the very first tee. We were thrilled to have the support of our incredible sponsors, including BMW Doncaster, who provided a BMW for the coveted 'Hole in One' competition. The tension and anticipation was high, with some golfers coming incredibly close to the prize — one shot landed just a foot away from driving the car home! After a day of golf, players and supporters gathered back at the club for a well-deserved lunch, drinks, and awards. The atmosphere was filled with great stories, especially from sporting legends Michele Timms and Saverio Rocca, who shared their memories and made the event even more memorable. Raising nearly $9,000 for RCH, we can’t wait to do it all again next year. Be sure to lock it in your diary for Friday 14th March, 2025 — see you there!

SAGRA DI SAN MARCO – APRIL 2024

National Volunteers Week

On 20th May 2024 the Veneto Club celebrated National Volunteers Week with our annual Volunteer Dinner. Just under a hundred volunteers attended the dinner which included representatives from:

• all the FAV associations (Trevisani, Padovani, Vicentini, Veronesi, & Comunita Montana) and Alpini

• the infamous Crostoli ladies & the Ladies Auxiliary

• the Squash, Bocce, Golf and FCBL sporting groups

• the Choir, Women’s Circle, and

• the veteran maintenance men and staff that volunteer their time for special events, and the VC Board.

As part of the night’s festivities, we roved the room with microphones getting each group to share their experiences about how and why they volunteer at the Club. It is a moving and emotional sharing experience, listening to what has motivated a person to contribute to the Club in a meaningful way. Some volunteers are relatively new to the Club, whilst others have been volunteering for 40 to 50 years. There was one common theme - their devotion and passion for the Veneto Club.

Congratulations to Jaqueline Kouzoukas who was selected as the 2024 Volunteer of the Year, for her remarkable dedication to FC Bulleen Lions. Jacqueline's unwavering commitment goes above and beyond, fuelling our club's spirit. From organizing events to mentoring our players, Jaqueline's passion for the sport and genuine care for our community shine

through in every endeavour. Her tireless efforts have not only kept our club thriving but have also inspired a new generation of players and families.

On behalf of the Club and Management we extend a huge THANK YOU to Jaqueline and ALL our volunteers at the Veneto Club. Your selfless contributions are the heartbeat of our club, and without you, our community wouldn't be the same.

We are always looking for new ideas and initiatives so if you have an idea for a new initiative or event at the Veneto Club – share it with us. Get in contact with the Clubs committee via email culture@venetoclub.com or if you would prefer to speak to one of our committee members direct, call the Club and they will connect you.

Volunteering warms your heart and help maintain personal wellbeing and social connections. So if you or any of your family or friends needs to get out or build some new connections email culture@venetoclub.com to discuss current opportunities, and we will do our best to connect you with one of our groups.

Totti Visit

Francesco Totti's visit to the Veneto Club was a memorable occasion, as the legendary Italian forward made his inaugural Australian tour. Totti, widely regarded as one of Italy's greatest-ever footballers, shared his experiences with fans and those at the Club event. His visit was a rare treat for the Club’s supporters, who were treated not only to Totti's persona but also to his stories of triumph, leadership, and commitment that made him a symbol of AS Roma and Italian football.

The occasion also provided an opportunity to acknowledge the accomplishments of other club legends, including Mark Bresciano, another iconic figure in Australian football. Bresciano, who enjoyed a stellar career both at the club level and internationally, was celebrated for his time with teams such as Empoli, Parma, Palermo and Lazio, as well as his crucial role in the Socceroos' successes on the world stage with a career that spanned over two decades. Both Totti and Bresciano represent the highest level of professionalism, and their shared passion for the game resonated deeply with the attendees at the Veneto Club, who celebrated their legendary status in the world of football.

Women's Circle

SUPPORTING HEALTH AND WELLBEING

The Women’s Circle was formed with a mission to foster a supportive community where women of all ages and background can connect in a safe place and discuss issues which are important to them. The aim was to seek motivational speakers promoting health and wellbeing and positive lifestyle choices.

The inaugural speaker was Snezana Pezzin, a fitness and lifestyle coach, who encouraged the audience to be proactive with their health and engage in physical fitness. In the following months, various inspirational speakers shared their life experiences. Disability advocate Laura Pettenuzzo discussed her daily challenges, while Emily Somers of Bravery & Co recounted her remarkable survival story, overcoming multiple bouts of cancer.

We also heard how a single action can change lives, highlighted by the powerful stories of Kat Gurciullo, who spoke about the importance of human connection in her recovery from an accident. Caterina Politi shared her grief of losing her son in a one-punch incident, her efforts to implement legislative change, and her navigation through the justice system and organ donation left us deeply moved.

Additionally, we welcomed Dee Dee Dunleavy, a popular media presenter, who generously shared her career highlights and coping with its sudden loss, as well as Emily Chadbourne, whose mission is to empower women to live life on their terms.

The Women’s Circle also featured health professionals such as Dr Michelle Jongenelis, a behavioural and clinical

psychologist, who provided strategies to change the narratives in our minds, declutter our brains, and manage life's pressures; and Dr Julian Yeoh, a cardiologist, who had previously spoken at the Men's Shed, discussed heart health with the Women's Circle.

These events would not have been possible without the support from Manningham Community Grants and our volunteer group: Sonya Velo, Edda Bonis Lyons, Cris Amadio, Melissa Achkar, Christine Rigoni, Eda Conte, Guliana Bonanni, Teresa Bonola, Angela Sirianni, and Guido Bonanni who assisted in establishing the group.

The Women’s Circle will be back in 2025 on the second Tuesday of each month, March through to November.

La Nostra Lingua - Our Language

Professor Alessandro Mocellin, university lecturer on the Veneto language and President of the Academia della Buona Creansan in Treviso, delivered a lecture on Venetian history and language as part of a series of events organized by the Veneto Club and the Federazione delle Associazioni Venete del Victoria.

The events, attended by over 300 people, delved into the rich history, language, and culture of the Veneto area. One of the highlights was an exhibition featuring 24 panels titled “History of the Language of the Veneti,” which encapsulated a few thousand years of Venetian history.

Professor Mocellin emphasized the uniqueness of the Venetian language, which is spoken not only in the Veneto region of Italy but also by many Venetian emigrants scattered around the world. He urged the community to continue speaking Venetian with pride, preserving this invaluable cultural heritage.

The events concluded with a Sunday lunch “alla veneta”, offering a taste of the region’s rustic cuisine.

The project was sponsored by Regione del Veneto.

Sport at the Veneto Club

As we reflect on another year at the Veneto Club, I am proud for the growth, dedication, and passion that have been the hallmarks of our sporting community. From our youngest participants to our seasoned athletes, it has been a year of remarkable achievements and memorable moments. Our commitment to fostering a sense of belonging and unity through sport remains at the core of everything we do. This year, each of our sporting areas—Bocce, Tennis, Squash, Basketball, Futsal, and Football have continued to grow, thrive, and strengthen the bonds that make our club such a unique and special place.

BOCCE

Bocce, a sport deeply embedded in the cultural fabric of the Veneto Club, has continued to be a shining example of community engagement led by Sonya Velo. Our Bocce courts have seen more activity this year than ever before, with newcomers coming together to share in the joy of the game. Whether it’s the competitive spirit of our weekend league or the social nature of our casual games. We are excited to see the continued growth of the Bocce community as we prepare for the upcoming tournaments and social events.

TENNIS

Tennis at the Veneto Club has enjoyed a fantastic of success. Our tennis programs continue to attract a wide range of players, from beginners to competitive athletes. We’ve seen increased participation in both social and competitive tennis, with our courts often buzzing with activity. VIDA tennis led by Kane has led a rewarding tennis program is the inclusive environment, where everyone feels welcome, regardless of skill level. This year, we also hosted a series of successful clinics and school programs that highlighted the strength of our Club’s tennis community.

SQUASH

Squash remains at the Veneto Club, with our court’s utilisation year-round for social and pennant members contributing to Club representation. The extended squash team continue to be actively part of local and state pennant events on multiple levels. A special thanks to Matthew Waters and Libero Dalla Zuanna for stepping in as our new Squash Presidents following the departure of John Cassar and his dedicated leadership. We sincerely thank John for his loyal service to the club over many years. John was instrumental to building increased participation in both social and competitive events.

GOLF

Veneto Club Golf always see a regular turn out for weekend events, followed by a catch up at the Club. A special acknowledgment goes to the Golf Committee, under the leadership of Oscar Forte, for his tireless work and commitment throughout the year. Oscar's unwavering efforts, along with the support of the committee, have played an integral role in the smooth running of events and the overall success of the section.

Additionally, we would like to congratulate Wally Aver on his achievement as the 2023 Club Champion and wish all the members the best for the 2024 season and beyond.

BASKETBALL & FUTSAL

Our Basketball Court at the Veneto Club has seen a significant increase in usage this year, with members embracing not only basketball but also futsal and a variety of club events. The court has become a hub for activity, with both competitive and recreational games taking place regularly. Futsal has gained tremendous popularity, with more players joining our leagues and social events, creating an exciting and fast-paced environment. Basketball continues to be a core part of our offerings, with growing participation across our stakeholders, including more opportunities for local tournaments and inter-club competitions.

We are excited to see this trend continue, and we look forward to even more members enjoying the court for basketball, futsal, and future club events in the coming year.

Football

FC BULLEEN LIONS

Without question, football remains the heartbeat of the Veneto Club. The Club celebrated its 50th year and this year saw a remarkable record-breaking chapter in our Club’s rich football history. Our football program continues to be the largest and most dynamic of all our sports, attracting hundreds of players across all age groups and skill levels.

FC Bulleen Lions, as part of our Veneto Club family, has continued to grow and excel this year, building on our legacy of success and community involvement.

A standout achievement this year was our Senior Women’s Team, who secured back-to-back Premierships in 2025, a remarkable feat that speaks to the hard work and talent of both our players and coaching staff. Alongside this league triumph, the team also took home the prestigious NIKE FC Cup (State Cup), cementing their status as the top team in the state. This victory was made even more special as the team’s stellar performances throughout the season were recognised at Football Victoria's Gold Medal Evening, where several of our players earned awards, on top of this Caitlin Friend was awarded Coach of the Year.

In our Junior Girls Program, we also achieved outstanding success, with our U12s, U13s, and U15s all winning their respective State Titles. These victories are a testament to the strength and depth of our junior development pathway, and the hard work and dedication of our players and coaching staff. Our commitment to developing young talent has never been stronger, and it’s inspiring to see our junior girls teams continue to dominate at the highest levels of the game.

Additionally, this year marked a historic milestone for FC Bulleen Lions as we had representation in the Veneto region of Italy for the first time ever. Our first-ever girls team had the incredible opportunity to travel to Italy, where they not only competed but also experienced firsthand the football culture of the region. This trip was a monumental moment for our girls’ program.

Not to be outdone, our U16 Boys team also embarked on a journey to Italy, where they immersed themselves in a professional football environment. Their experience, training with Italian clubs and competing in international matches, allowed our players to gain invaluable exposure to a higher standard of play.

Our JBNPL (Junior Boys National Premier Leagues) program remains the benchmark in the state. Once again, FC Bulleen Lions was the only non-academy Club to have the highest-ranking JBNPL program, with all our teams placed in Division One. This consistent success highlights the strength of our youth development and the exceptional standard of coaching we provide. The JBNPL program is not just about immediate success but about long-term player development, and we continue to see a large intake of players transitioning to the academy pathway, a clear

indication that our program is producing players who are ready for the next level of football.

The Veneto Club is proud to have FC Bulleen Lions as an integral part of our sporting identity, and I look forward to seeing the Club achieve even greater heights in the years to come. The Club would also like to extend its heartfelt thanks to our exceptional sponsors, whose unwavering support makes such a difference to FC Bulleen Lions year after year.

As we reflect on this successful year, it is important to acknowledge the enormous amount of voluntary work that goes into the operations of our sporting programs. From coaches and team managers to committee members, event organisers, and all the other volunteers who give their time and energy, the contributions of our volunteers are the backbone of the Club.

I would also like to thank the Veneto Club Board and the management team for their unwavering support, guidance, and vision. Their leadership ensures that our Club remains strong, vibrant, and true to the values of inclusivity, community, and excellence. It is their commitment to upholding the core values of what our club represents— pride, passion, and respect—that enables us to continue delivering outstanding sporting experiences for all our members.

In closing, I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together this year. The Veneto Club is a place where friendships are forged, talents are nurtured, and our shared love of sport brings us all closer together. I look forward to seeing the continued growth of our sporting community and the ongoing success of every team, athlete, and volunteer who contributes to making our club a truly special place.

U16 NPL Boys Italy Tour

The 2024 FC Bulleen Lions JBNPL Under 16 squad experienced the thrill of International Football with our exclusive end of season football tour in Verona, Italy.

Nestled in the heart of the Veneto region, Verona offered up not only a rich tapestry of history and culture but also state of the art sports facilities perfect for honing our young athletes' skills.

The tour included daily intensive training sessions with professional Italian coaches, friendly matches against local youth teams from Virtus Verona, Padova, San Giovanni and Vicenza along with attending top-tier Serie A games featuring AC Milan and Parma.

The Bulleen boys immersed themselves into the Italian style of Football, learning new techniques and strategies, all while fostering camaraderie and teamwork.

Beyond the Football fields, the tour provided ample opportunities to explore Verona’s stunning attractions in the picturesque streets that inspired Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, with no shortage of sights to see throughout Milan, Parma, Lake Garda, Sirmione and Lazise.

The boys enjoyed guided tours, delicious Italian cuisine, and a deep dive into the local culture. The tour provided not just a Football experience, but a lifetime of memories, blended with the excitement of Football in the charm of one of Italy’s most beautiful regions.

A special thank you and appreciation goes to our Technical Director Karl Hodge, U16 NPL Boys Head Coach Maurizio Masoni, IFA Verona Director Alberto Cattel and the U16 Boys Parent Group for all the time and effort in coordinating and arranging the 2024 Italy tour.

U17 NPL Girls Italy Tour

FC BULLEEN LIONS

For the first time in the club's history, the FC Bulleen Lions U17s Girls JGNPL team embarked on a groundbreaking journey to Verona, Italy, where they had the unique opportunity to explore Italian football, culture, and lifestyle. This exciting trip was an unforgettable experience for the players, coaches, and everyone involved, offering a perfect balance of football and cultural immersion.

The girls arrived in Verona, choosing to stay in the heart of the city, living like locals in cozy apartments that gave them a true taste of Italian life. Located in the Veneto region, Verona is known for its rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant atmosphere. The players enjoyed the opportunity to shop in quaint boutiques, authentic Italian cuisine in local restaurants and pizzarias, and train in one of the most beautiful cities in Italy. The experience allowed the girls to soak in the essence of Verona, blending football with the charm of their surroundings.

While in Verona, the girls took full advantage of the city’s cultural offerings. They explored the iconic streets of Verona, visiting key attractions such as the Arena di Verona, Juliet’s Balcony, Piazza delle Erbe, Giardino Giusti, and Castel San Pietro. Each location offered the players a chance to connect with Italy’s fascinating history, while also indulging in some of the world’s finest food and gelato in the warm spring afternoons.

The excitement didn’t stop there. The team also took a short trip to the enchanting city of Venice, where they had the chance to explore the Basilica di San Marco, ascend the Campanile, enjoy a traditional Gondola ride, and wander through the picturesque streets and canals. To round off the trip in grand style, the girls celebrated with a visit to Gardaland, Italy’s famous theme park, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

A significant milestone for the team was their historic visit to IFA Verona’s home ground, where they became the first international girls' team to train at the facility. The girls were warmly welcomed by their Italian counterparts and received expert coaching from the IFA Verona staff. They participated in friendly matches against prominent Italian teams, including Chievo Women’s U17s and U19s, Hellas Verona, and Serie A’s Sassuolo Calcio Femminile, gaining invaluable experience and insight into the competitive nature of Italian football.

One of the most thrilling moments for the players came when they had the chance to watch Atalanta take on Arsenal in the prestigious Champions League in Bergamo. They also enjoyed a Series A match between Hellas Verona and Torino, experiencing the passion and intensity of Italian top-flight football first hand.

This incredible journey would not have been possible without the unwavering support and dedication of the Club and many key people who made this trip possible. The FC Bulleen Lions U17s Girls' trip to Verona was a remarkable journey that blended the beauty of Italian culture with the intensity of competitive football. It provided the players with a rare opportunity to gain international experience, form lasting friendships, and develop skills both on and off the pitch. This trip marked a significant chapter in the Club’s history, showcasing the growth that defines FC Bulleen Lions as a leading female football Club.

Finally, our deepest gratitude goes to the entire FCBL community and sponsors, whose support and enthusiasm helped make this historic trip a reality. The collective effort of our players, coaches, families, and supporters exemplifies the spirit of the FC Bulleen Lions community.

Bocce

Bocce – its named in our constitution as one of our founding sports, and we continue to be proud, competitive and innovative in the bocce community. For the 23/24 federation season Club players Andrew Pozzer, Don DiFederico, Mark Pozzer and Laila Favrin formed part of the Victorian team that competed in the Australian National Bocce Championships. Their competitiveness was fierce, during the days of play.

At home on our courts, we are actively trying new bocce formats, activities and competitions to encourage new participation from a diverse demographic including seniors, juniors, all abilities and all genders.

We have a strong collaboration with some of the best players in Australia who run a free Tuesday night training clinic for young people and new players of any age and ability. The coaches (Mikolich, Parisi & Palermo) use a range of unique training drills to develop bowling and throwing techniques – it’s not just bowling up and down. These drills are fun and engaging especially for the younger players.

On Wednesday nights we have the longstanding weekly competition; its mostly attended by Seniors but we see the odd youthful player join in which is great to see. There’s a regular group that you can count on every week to play. Whilst numbers are unfortunately on the decline – this is an important part of our culture and an important social activity for many of our seniors who look forward to a couple of games of bocce followed by a drink and a chat after the games.

#VCBOCCE is now in its 6th year, held on Thursday fortnights. It’s a social catchup with bocce and caters for a diverse group of participants. It’s a VC home grown event which was the catalyst for the Club to try new bocce initiatives to increase participation. We have Italian pop music and 80’s disco music whilst we play, a light supper afterwards and a free raffle. All ages and no experience required – so if you want to meet new people this is the place to be!

Not stopping there, we branched out and created ULTIMATE BOCCE. Held on Friday nights as a four-week season it was a competition of many disciplines: doubles and triples traditional games along with a Doubles Bowl Throw and a Triples Rapid Relay. The teams were made up For any bocce related queries please email

of elite, regular and novice players, Men, Women, Juniors and Special Os all represented in each of the four teams – showcasing diversity in bocce. All players were gifted a player jersey in their team colour thank you to the generous sponsorship of ONEGLASS. With around 40 players it was a huge success.

We followed up the ULTIMATE season with TEAM BOCCE which finished in early November. TEAM BOCCE this season saw a huge influx of new participants on Friday nights. We can’t wait for next year when bring back TEAM and ULTIMATE BOCCE as they are both hitting the spot with fun introductory bocce for new participants.

On Saturday mornings (fortnightly) the Veneto Club has been hosting the Melbourne Inner East Special Olympics Bocce for over two decades. Our very own Rick Gatto (a Life member of BFV) has been part of the volunteer group that supports the Special Os Bocce here at the Club since it started. Bocce is one of those sports that can be modified to suit all abilities – and its great to see that this initiative has had a strong following for two decades and shows no signs of waning.

Turning to 2025 we are thrilled to announce that we will be continuing our U3A (University of the 3rd Age) BOCCE offerings. We will now run Fun and Exercise with Bocce in Terms One and Three next year and extending the course offering to additional U3A districts. The U3A Bocce Program has been developed by the Veneto Club specifically for U3A participants; the positive feedback received by participants has prompted us to expand the offering – which is great for Bocce and the Veneto Club.

We have the annual VC BOCCE SLAM a commemorative tournament which always attracts the best players –thanks to CO.AS.IT and DeBortoli Wines for their generous sponsorship for this event to make it one of the best, most sought-after competitions.

So, as we look forward to 2025 we will continue to play bocce in many formats and competitions. Change is inevitable in this sport; we must change to survive. We will continue to create new bocce programs with a twist. Our bocce arena is one of the best facilities in Australia, and we will respectively change and adapt for the benefit of our players, the Club and Bocce as a sport.

Golf

OSCAR FORTE PRESIDENT

Each year the Veneto Club Golf group plays thirteen games between February and November at various suburban golf courses plus a weekend away. The local games are played in Stableford format with prizes awarded to the winners of A and B Grade being the players with the highest scores at the end of the day's play. The Veneto Club Golf Champion is awarded to the player with the highest aggregate points at the end of each season.

Our year began with a steady membership of 36 registered players and all games were well attended with an average participation rate of twenty-two per game.

Sponsors are important for the Golf committee as they enable us to provide prizes for each game to the First place and runner-up in each of A and B grades. It is with great pleasure that the Golf committee recognises the support of its loyal sponsors who make all this possible and we would like to acknowledge the following sponsors: Gasco - Giancarlo Peruzzo, Frank Dal Santo, David Gauci and the Veneto Club via Karl Hodge Sports Manager.

THE 2023 WINNERS WERE AS FOLLOWS:

A Grade

Walter Aver 69 points, Runner Up – Tony Spadaro, 62.5 points,

The 2023 Golf weekend in Moama, North Eastern Victoria saw beautiful weather and lots of drinking eating and golf.

As always, we booked out the motel resort having 38 player and wives attending with most bringing their food offerings of cakes and house-made small goods along with some impressive home brews of wines and limoncello.

Golf was played over 2 days at the beautiful Rich River Country Club. The golf format was “Four Ball Best Ball” where teams of four players compete against other teams, and on Monday “closest to the pin”.

The 2024 season has seen a small increase in membership which is pleasing. The annual membership fee is minimal ($50) which now includes automatic inclusion to the raffle and free bottle of water and fruit per player at games.

We are always looking for new members and anyone who would like to join us will be very welcome, especially ladies, as we are looking to boost the number of lady players. Not only do we enjoy our golf, but wonderful friendships are also forged. If you would like more information about Golf at the Veneto Club – please refer to the contact details below.

Squash

2024 proved to be a difficult year for the Veneto Club Squash. Unfortunately, we lost a couple of competition players, but we were able to fill the void with more social members joining, who are utilizing our squash courts.

As we do at the start of each year, our annual Golden Lion Competition was held. This is open to all squash members – both competition and social members. After a knockout competition the final was played out between Leon Tellis and David Truett. David proved too good on the night and won in 3 straight games. Congratulations David.

The Winter Season of the Club Circuit saw two of our three teams make the finals. Unfortunately, we were unable to win the grand final, however our D3 team fought hard but just fell short – coming runners up. Great effort guys.

The Spring Season of Club Circuit is well underway, and two of our three teams are presently in the finals and looking very strong. Here’s hoping that we bring home a few flags.

Again, this year we were able to continue the tradition of the Bert Caneva Veneto Club Championships. This is a knockout competition, open to all squash members. It culminated with a mighty game between new member,

Acland against Phil

It was a tough game which saw David defeat Phil. Congratulations to David for coming out on top – and I am sure there will be many more titles coming your way in the future. We were fortunate to have Bert Caneva’s partner, Barbara and daughter, Michele, on hand to present the trophy, and enjoy a beautiful celebratory dinner afterwards. A very big thank you to the Caneva family for their continuing support of the Veneto Club Squash. We appreciate your support very much.

The Veneto Squash is part of the wider Vento Club community. Yes, we do feel part of the club and believe we do add value to the Veneto Club as a whole. We press on despite a lot of disruptions and inconveniences, and we look forward to developments that will give all of us better access to all our facilities for this great club.

Feedback from visiting Squash Teams is that they really enjoy playing at the Veneto Club. Despite the current works they enjoy our facilities, food, hospitality and general good banter. Even better is that they look forward to visiting our Club because of our great hospitality, food, along with friendly members and staff.

Go Veneto Club!

Tennis

Over the last 12 months Tennis at the Veneto Club has been very active, from competition teams, coaching, match play and social events.

The Veneto Club had three teams compete in the NENGT night competition for the Autumn & Spring seasons. The teams played home & away matches on Tuesday nights starting at 7pm. Whilst there was no silverware brought home from these two seasons, all teams competed well in their respective sections.

The Sunday Morning Junior Competition saw eight Veneto Club teams compete in the Eastern Region Tennis Association competition in the past Summer and Winter seasons. It is great to see the courts full of junior players on a Sunday morning each week wearing the Veneto Club shirts.

This is a summary of our achievements for the last year:

WINTER 2024

Premiers – JOSD Section 3 Winners - Alessio Canzoneri, Oliver Vojvoda, Aryan Watwani and Martin Park

Runner Up – Open Rubbers 14 - Kevin Gong and Frank Gong

Runner Up – JDC Section 1 - Sanoak Thenuwara, Reon Ujihara, Colin Lee and Vinod Nihalsingha

SUMMER 2023/24

●Premiers – JDC Section 2 – Alessio Canzoneri, Reon Ujihara, Aryan Watwani and Martin Park

Premiers – JDC Section 4 – Oliver Vojvoda, Derek Wang, Jayden Wang and Joanna Xu

We’re looking forward to the Summer 2024/25 season, where we will have nine junior competition teams hitting the courts representing the Veneto Club.

Coaching numbers increased to over 320 participants per week and holiday programs have become very popular at the club. The Vida coaching program is continuing to be led by former Davis & Federation Cup captain of the Philippines Karl Santamaria and Maxi Blasic.

Tennis lessons are available for all ages and run six days per week. Programs include Hot Shots kids group lessons, development & performance squads, private lessons, and adult programs. Vida offers a free intro lesson to help get you started which can be booked online via this link www.vidatennis.com.au/free-intro/

Some of our junior players achieved some fantastic results over the last year. Cooper Errey played in the Australian Open juniors once again and has recently accepted a US College Scholarship at Oregan University. He is one of six players in the past year who have taken up scholarships in America.

Scarlett Dattoli has won multiple junior (U18) events and has now moved inside the top 350 in the world junior rankings at age 15.

The online court booking system continues to enable more people to access the tennis courts for social play. In the coming year we look forward to increasing all the tennis playing opportunities at the club for our members and the local community. New members are always welcome, as well as casual court hires. Both can be accessed via this link https://play.tennis.com.au/venetoclubtennis/Membership/ Join

It's almost time to say goodbye to 2024 and turn the page to see what awaits us in 2025, but not before paying tribute to everything that made this year special, with many great moments and some exciting new developments.

We supported and assisted in many significant events this year, including the Clubs’ annual Sagra di San Marco held on Anzac Day, the Festa della Repubblica held at the Calabria Club in Bulla in June and the Multicultural Festival held at Bulleen Plaza in October. At these events we sold our inhouse made Crostoli and Frittole – our Veneto sweet delicacies that everyone loves.

A heartfelt thank you to Dorina Di Marzio, for her contribution to this group over the past 7 years, who has retired from her position as Treasurer. I would also like to extend a warm welcome to Rosie Bettiol, who has become our new Treasurer. We welcome you Rosie and look forward to working with you. If anyone is interested in joining the Ladies Auxiliary group or getting involved to contact us — you are always welcome!

Veneto Club Choir

What a joy it is to be able to sing at, full voice, the popular traditional songs, and as well as new songs with the Veneto Club Choir. There is such a happy atmosphere at rehearsals with everyone doing their best. Our maestro Giuliano Di Ienno has challenged us to learn new songs which after a few rehearsals we have now mastered.

The Choir enjoy getting out and performing to an appreciative audience. We love to sing. We have all been singing since childhood, but hearing an audience clap, cheer and seeing the joy on the audience’s faces really warms our hearts. The companionship we share and the respect we have for each other makes singing with this choir a joy. Giuliano is a no-nonsense taskmaster. He keeps us in line. He is very patient and knows how to get the best out of us. He is a talented choirmaster and a true professional.

Through our performances at festivals and aged care homes we have developed quite a reputation; receiving enquiries to perform all over Victoria. We have a full diary and already have three concerts booked for next year.

Our highlights this year have been performing at the Shepparton Italian Festa, singing mass for La Festa Della Republica at the Calabria Club, the Melbourne Italian Festa, the Swiss/Italian Festa at Daylesford, the Preston and Queen Victoria Market Italian festivals. We also sang for primary school students at Coburg West Primary school. It was interesting to see young children listening to our traditional Italian songs and dance to the more upbeat songs. It was a real experience for us elderly men. We hope to sing at more schools in the future.

The absolute highlight of 2024 has been our production of La Grande Guerra. A concert in collaboration with the Boroondara Symphonic Band and two narrators. A fabulous show about the First World War. It was both educational and entertaining. This production involved several organizations and a lot of planning and rehearsing putting it together.

The continual support from our club is appreciated. It allows us to do what we love best – Sing!

Alpini

As the year draws to a close, the Association National Alpini of Victoria and Tasmania would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Veneto Club and all its members and patrons for their unwavering support throughout the last 12 months.

Below is an overview of our annual events.

On Friday 10th November 2023 the Alpini joined other Associations at the Murchison Italian War Memorial Cemetery to honour Italian POW soldiers who lost their lives during World War II. This was followed by the usual picnic, where everyone had a chance to relax, enjoy and reminisce.

On Sunday 4th February 2024 we started the morning with a mass at the Veneto Club to honour fallen soldiers who fought and perished in Russia. This was followed by a wellattended lunch providing a further opportunity for everyone to come together.

Easter Monday featured our cherished Pasquetta BBQ at the Baracca, where Alpini, family and friends enjoyed a traditional day of feasting and drinking.

One of the most significant days in our calendar is Anzac Day. This was celebrated by a ceremony in front of our Alpini monument near the Club’s entrance, to honour all fallen soldiers from all wars. After this we joined in the remembrance Mass which was attended by many Club members; then followed by the amazing Sagra di San Marco where the Alpini treated everyone to their delicious trippa and polenta.

A fortnight later, on Sunday 5th May, we headed off on our annual pilgrimage to Mount Buller, where we celebrated mass at the Alpini Chapel. The event concluded with a feast at the Abom Hotel, which had a sellout attendance between

Alpini and the Trevisani Association members. The food and wine was in abundance. The day was capped off with a combined Veneto Club choir and Alpini performance which entertained us all.

We extend our deepest thanks to the Veneto Club for their invaluable support and to all our loyal members and supporters. Your dedication enables us to preserve our traditions.

Pure quest’anno abbiamo devoluto al Good Friday Children Appeal e varie altre istituzioni caritevoli e a ricerche in campo medico.

As we come to the end of another successful year, the Trevisani Nel Mondo Melbourne would like to thank the Veneto Club and its members together with the members of our association for their continued support during 2024.

Our year began with the AGM on Sunday 18th February 2024. We welcomed a new President, Annette Parisotto, the first female President in our history.

The first social event for our calendar was The Picnic at the Baracca. As always, we had our members bring along their family and many friends. The committee and volunteers cooked up a wonderful BBQ lunch. The kids enjoyed the jumping castle and the traditional bocce competition.

On the 25th April 2024, together with all the other associations, we celebrated the Sagra Di San Marco. This event was an opportunity for people to taste the traditional Veneto delicacies.

Our weekend away to Mt Buller on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th May 2024 was a great day shared with the Alpini of Melbourne. We visited Dal Zotto Winery for Saturday lunch followed by dinner at the ABOM Mt Buller. Sunday started with Mass and finished with lunch at the ABOM and our traditional sing a long of Veneto songs from the past.

Sunday 26th May 2024 was our Festa di Castagne, a lunch dedicated to chestnuts and ‘Vin Brulé’. This is always our traditional winter luncheon where we enjoy the food and dancing with family and friends.

A day trip to Myrtleford was enjoyed on Sunday 2nd June 2024. This is always a wonderful day shared with the members and friends of the Trevisani of Myrtleford.

The Radicchio Festa was held on Sunday 7th July 2024 and is our favourite event which is dedicated the famous ‘radicchio trevigiano’. Radicchio is always on our menu and truly celebrated this day. The day is highlighted with a

massive number of prizes for the raffle and finishes with a sing along.

San Pio X is the Patron Saint of Trevisani Nel Mondo and he was celebrated with a Mass followed by a sumptuous lunch enjoyed by members, families, and friends.

The success of our events comes down to the dedication and commitment of the committee and volunteers who assist in making memories for our members. We would like to thank the many volunteers and sponsors that have made our events truly successful over the last 12 months.

Looking back on the last 12 months we have seen our membership increase steadily to include a new generation of members. The success of our association is in the hands of the future.

The Trevisani of Melbourne are a very loyal and traditional group of people who are maintaining their traditions and customs.

I ask all members and friends to encourage their children to continue the traditions and celebrations that we have held close to our hearts over the years. We hope that the future members will remember the past and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Renzo Zanella, Vice Presidente Gabriella Pavia ,Tesoriera –Christine Mengato, Segretaria – Luna Brentegani, Comitato direttivo Maria Pilot – Ida Zanella – Marcin Brentegani.

The past 12 months have seen a surge of members and friends participating in the festivals organized by the “Vicentini” Melbourne Association. Again, our thanks go to the committee for the arrangements and delivery of the traditional activities held over the period. Their contribution makes each event, on every occasion, an exceptional day for all to enjoy.

We continued with our traditional “Feste” held at the Sala Venezia and the Baracca of the Veneto Club but the highlight for this year has been the ‘Pranzo Annuale’ in the month of July, celebrating the 40th Anniversary (19842024) of the Vicentini Melbourne Association (see photo of inaugural elected president Luciana dal Bosco and 1984 committee). It was our biggest event for 2024 where the committee presented commemorative gifts and again, We thank all who participated in our celebration. One of the important events for our association was the ‘Festa della Madonna’ (September 2024), where after the church service, we celebrated lunch (see photo) in good company with music, dancing and fine food provided by the Veneto Club.

Our association also held the usual yearly gatherings at the “baracca” (rear of the Veneto Club) with great participation from member’s family and friends for the “Festa delle Palme” (March 2024), the “Castagne” festival in April 2024, the ‘San Stefono Day’ (members function) held in December 2023, as well as, the “Cherries” festa that was held in November 2023. The traditions have continued from where picnics were initially held at Banksia Park, (see the 1984 picture).

Another important event (March 2024) held, is the ‘Polenta and Baccala’ (see photo) festa at the ‘baracca’. This event is always well attended and part of our Vicentini cultural traditional celebrations imbedded in our constitution. In 2023, Lina and Sergio Povolo ventured to the Nordic states and Iceland in search for the origins of “baccala” (see photo).

It was found that the ‘Baccala’, provided by the Veneto Club in the “Veneto style” is exceptional, compared to other baccala served in restaurants around the world.

Our gratitude to the committee, the volunteers and the donations received that helped make this another successful year for our association.

Viva San Marco.

We have been the family taking care of our community for more than 50 years

We support a community that has marked and continues to shape the culture, society and economy of Melbourne and Australia

We assist our older community bringing company, joy and professional assistance in their lives.

We organise events and exhibitions to share with Melbournians our passion and love for music and art.

We promote and teach Italian to all age groups. We assist teachers in developing their professional skills.

We take care of memories and legacy, managing the Italian Historical Society and the Museo Italiano.
