Creatives: Where it All Begins Alluring, captivating, glamorous, and mesmerizing; the art world originates in the garages, living rooms, studios, and any other space artists find nooks to create dumbfounding amounts of work – most of them overlooked by the world at large, very few presented to art lovers and collectors. But, the glamour and excitement of international art fairs, the alluring art galleries and exhibition spaces, the impressive array of online art-related websites, and the grandeur of art museums cannot exist without creatives.

Clumped into categories that include abstract, conceptual, digital, photography, sculpture, their uniqueness can fade in the eyes of their audiences. But, upon closer scrutiny, it becomes quite obvious that each artist strives to make a very personal statement; whether by attempting to break new ground or honoring the past by integrating styles and techniques from a long and rich legacy into their work.

The process of creating is a passionate one, a love affair undertaken without regard for risk of failure or the assurance of financial compensation. Still, love is reckless, and every piece of art ever created shares one common imprint; the traces of the heart and soul of the artist that made it.

The creatives selected for this edition represent a perfect sampling of the personalized diversity of philosophy and implementation that continues to build on the foundation of the legacy that decorates humanity with the visions of the dreamers and lovers that dedicate their lives to making art.

Los creativos: el comienzo de todo Fascinante, cautivador, glamoroso e hipnotizante; el mundo del arte comienza en los garajes, las salas, los estudios y en cualquier otro espacio donde artistas encuentran rincones para crear asombrosas cantidades de trabajo - la mayoría ignorados, muy pocos presentados a amantes del arte y coleccionistas. Pero el lujo y la emoción de las ferias de arte internacionales, las fascinantes galerías de arte y espacios de exposición, la impresionante variedad de sitios web relacionados con el arte, y la grandeza de los museos que lo exponen no pueden existir sin sus creadores.

Ileana Collazo: The Innovator | Visual Artist/Poet “I learned all I needed to about creating art as a young girl in my grandmother's garden - where I sat doing what as an adult I call meditating. That quiet spot became my temple. Many years passed before I began to birth the creations conceived in my early daydreams. I started to write fiction and poetry, and then my mind exploded into a galaxy of colors, shapes, and movement as I began to paint on a variety of surfaces, digitally, and then added photography and digital visual art to my artistic spectrum. My art is representative of the twists and turns we take in the course of our daily lives, and of the awe-inspiring beauty that surrounds us. My work is my gift to the world, and to everyone who falls in love with it. I was born in Cuba, and have lived in Spain, New York, Vermont, and Massachusetts. I now reside in Miami, Florida with my artist husband Miguel Collazo, four dogs, and cats in the yard.�

La innovadora | Artista visual / poeta “Aprendí todo lo que necesitaba para crear arte cuando era niña en el jardín de mi abuela, donde me sentaba a hacer lo que de adultome refiero a meditar; ese tranquilo lugar se convirtió en mi templo. Pasaron muchos años antes de que comenzara a dar luz a las creaciones concebidas en los sueños de mi niñez.

Comencé a escribir ficción y poesía, y luego mi mente explotó en una galaxia de colores, formas y movimientos al comenzar a pintar en una variedad de superficies, digitalmente, y luego agregar fotografía y arte visual digital a mi espectro artístico. Mi arte es representativo de los giros y vueltas que tomamos en el curso de nuestras vidas diarias, y de la belleza imponente que nos rodea. Via her philanthropic chapter, "Love of Philanthropy," Collazo donates to nonprofits - from grassroots to major institutions - on a one-time basis, and ongoing personalized campaigns created, aggressively marketed, and managed for them free of charge. She invites art lovers/collectors, nonprofits, and institutions who wish to support one of her ongoing campaings to visit Philanthropic Projects on her website, or suggest an organization to add to her projects, and make art purchases on their behalf; the entity will receive a percentage of the sales revenue in the donor's name.

In collaboration with Art Daily News International Magazine and Art Daily News International Magazine Special Editions, she is able to create campaigns for an infinite number of organizations.

The Sower of Dreams: Miler Ramirez “I constantly listen to music while I paint. Life is movement.”

For Miler Ramirez, being an amazing creative in his own right is not enough. He aims to leave a much larger imprint on the long artistic legacy started in the caves of our human ancestors. He is accomplishing this mission by helping many other artists realize their dream of successfully exhibiting and selling their works. A trend-setter by nature, Miler founded Peripheries Arts in his Stufenbaur, Ittigen, Switzerland loft in 1996; where he organized exhibitions in his loft apartment for 14 years until 2010 when Peripheries became a “walking” gallery. At present, exhibitions are held in a variety of venues and through exciting partnerships with galleries. The shows present contemporary art by national and international artists that may otherwise not have the opportunity to share their creativity with art lovers and collectors; as well as well-established creatives who share his passion for enhancing the global cultural landscape.

Born in Colombia in 1955, Miler Ramirez studied graphic design and design at the University of Bogotá and taught at Cali’s Art College before moving to Switzerland in 1985; where he established himself as a successful independent painter. His artistic expression focuses on employing light and color to express universal concepts like emotions and values. He masterfully accomplishes his task by rendering works in which reflected light occupies space; enveloping and involving the spectators; beckoning them to become an integral part of the work rather than passive observers.

The combination of fluorescent acrylics and UV lights bring encrypted messages that do not seem present without illumination. The light source gives voice to the works; paraphrasing slogans and enthusiasm and provoking utopian reflections that speak of man and his destiny and universal metaphors. Each piece becomes a call to action as the light beckons viewers to read the messages; much like the ancient lemon juice on which secret messages only appeared on the paper when exposed to candlelight.

Miler’s impactful artistic expression - while employing the new technologies of acrylic paints and light – carry with them a magical aura infused with poetic

mystical and spiritual emotions reminiscent of pre-Columbian art populated with anthropomorphic figures bearing a surprising refinement when considering that his ancestors rendered them over 2,500 in the distant past.

His Swiss "Aargauer Urviecher" painted cows – rendered in his captivating style – attract viewers with their pure form and color. His seemingly archaic red, blue, yellow, green, and orange figures rendered in pulsating traces of color move with mesmerizing rhythm as if they are vibrating to a fast beat melody. The artist achieves this effect through a drip-paint technique where he paints and drips in motion on the canvas, layer by layer, creating a rhythmic movement of lines and ethno-figures that dance and free-float on the surface.

El sembrador de sueños: Miler Ramírez "Siempre pinto acompañado por música. La vidase encentra en el movimiento. " Para Miler Ramírez, ser un impactante creador no es suficiente, su objetivo se enfoca en imprimir una huella mucho más hoda en el largo legado artístico iniciado en las cuevas de nuestros antepasados; y definitivamente está cumpliendo esta misión al ayudar a una multitud de artistas a realizar el sueño de exponer y vender sus obras. Un creador por naturaleza, Miler fundó Peripheries Arts en su buhardilla en Stufenbaur, Ittigen, Suiza en 1996; donde organizó exposiciones en su apartamento/studio dearte durante 14 años hasta el 2010, cuando Peripheries se convirtió en una galería "ambulante". Nacido en Colombia en 1955, Miler Ramírez estudió diseño gráfico en la Universidad de Bogotá, y enseñó en el Colegio de Arte de Cali antes de mudarse a Suiza en 1985; donde se estableció como un exitoso pintor independiente. Su expresión artística se centra en emplear luz y color para expresar conceptos universales fundidos con emociones y valores; magistralmente realizando su propuesta al presentar trabajos en los cuales la luz reflejada ocupa su propoio espacio, involucrando a los espectadores e invitandoles a que se conviertan en una parte integral del trabajo en vez de observadores pasivos.

La combinación de acrílicos fluorescentes y luces UV revelan los mensajes encriptos que no son visibles sin iluminación. La luz da voz a las obras; parafraseando lemas y entusiasmo y provocando reflexiones utópicas que hablan del hombre, su destino, y metáforas universales. Cada pieza se convierte en un llamado a acción, ya que la luz demanda que los mensajes sean leídos; al igual que el antiguo uso del jugo de limón para encriptar mensajes que solo se hacían visibles a la luz de las velas.

La impactante expresión artística de Miler – la cual emplea las nuevas tecnologías de pinturas acrílicas y luz - conllevan un aura mágica impregnada con emociones místicas, poéticas, y espirituales que traen a la mente el arte precolombino poblado de figuras antropomórficas que demuestran un refinamiento sorprendente; considerando que fue creado hace más de 2,500 años.

"Aargauer Urviecher," sus vacas suizas pintadas en su cautivador estilo, atraen a los espectadores con su pura forma y color. Sus arcaicas figuras en tonalidades de rojo, azul, amarillo, verde y naranja - representadas en pulsantes trazos de color se mueven con un ritmo hipnótico; como si estuvieran vibrando al sonido de una pulsante melodía; el artista logra este efecto a través de una técnica de goteo, donde pinta y gotea, capa por capa, en el lienzo, creando un movimiento rítmico de líneas y etnográficas que bailan y flotan libremente sobre la superficie.

Today, the investigation with my artistic commitment focuses on being sincere with me and with the world we live in; seeking the truth and the soul of drawing to strip it of superficiality, lies, and the blinded mediocrity inside which we are buried. Furthermore, I am interested in exploring the ballpoint pen technique to scratch, blur, dirty, draw, and paint; always forgetting that I have a ballpoint pen in my hand."

Born in Cordoba, Spain, Consuegra Romero embodies the romantic innocence of the artist who is genuinely in love with art for its own sake. With each stroke of the pen, she scores the paper with exquisite lines that generate characters that mesmerize and captivate art lovers and collectors. Alone or in groups, her “story people” are found in overwhelming situations that beckon viewers to stay fixed on the work, intent on learning all they can about the stories unfolding inside her minuscule invented worlds. Simply rendered with ballpoint pens with an

unrefined stroke that depicts a non-doctrinal graph, these worlds are powerful depictions of deep meaning and emotions.

The artist’s love affair with art began at age 15 when she came upon a Salvador Dali book and spent several hours of the afternoon pouring over the images; mesmerized by a world whose existence she was, up to that moment, totally unaware of. That very day she told herself, “I want to do this.”

Consuegra draws her inspiration from emotions and experiences; employing drawing as a mirror on which she projects the internal sensations that disturb and unsettle her – cleansing her body, mind and innermost self with each creative session with the paper. While blue ballpoint pens are her primary drawing tool, she uses fluorescent felt pens for pre-meditated color impact over the different blue tonalities.

Though she enjoyed mastering a great variety of disciplines in the course of her Fine Arts studies, drawing, painting, and digital art became the primary focus of her later works. Her most impactful encounter with drawing started in the summer of 2015 while she was experiencing an existential crisis. This life event created a turning point in her artistic career. She began to draw in small sheets of paper in the room she slept as a child -scribbling with the only available tool, a ballpoint pen. This unique approach to rendering - coupled with her uncanny storytelling abilities – has quickly catapulted her work into the mainstream of contemporary art and the hands of eager collectors who quickly recognize her mastery and uniqueness.

From 2003 to 2015 the artist participated in collective exhibitions in galleries and artistic centers in Spain; exhibiting large format acrylic works and integrating digital art into her creative process. In 2015, she traded brush for pen and canvas for paper; because paints and brushes were not available to her during that fateful summer when, while in the midst of an experiencing an existential crisis, she needed to purge her thoughts and fears through artistic expression. This unexpected turn of events led her to develop her work through drawing.

The artist continued to share her work on social media, art galleries, museums, and art fairs until July 2017 when she signed a contract to be represented by Vero Beach, Florida- based Art Concept Alternative; which she refers to as ‘a dream come true.’ “I feel profoundly grateful to Silvia Medina and Niurka Barroso for immediately recognizing my work’s potential when they first met at the 2017

Malaga Art Fair and making my dream of becoming an integral part of the US and international art scene.” Her US debut with Art Concept Alternative took place at the 2017 Boston Fine Art Fair in Boston, MA; followed by Pinta Art Fair during Miami Art Week 2017 and the Sala Museo San Juan de Dios Group Exhibition, “Caminos Encontrados” (“Found Paths”) in Orihuela, Alicante, Spain.

Nacida en Córdoba, España, Consuegra Romero engendra la inocencia romántica de la artista que está genuinamente enamorada del arte. Con cada trazo del bolígrafo, Consuegra puntúa el papel con líneas exquisitas que generan personajes que hipnotizan y cautivan a amantes del arte y coleccionistas. Solos o en grupos, sus "personajes” se encuentran en situaciones abrumadoras que atrapan a los espectadores en las obras mientras tartan de aprender todo lo que puedan sobre las historias que se desarrollan dentro de sus minúsculos mundos inventados.

Simplemente representados con bolígrafos con un trazo no refinado los cuales representan un gráfico no doctrinal, estos mundos muestran poderosas representaciones de profundos significados y emociones.

La relación amorosa de la artista con el arte comenzó a los 15 años cuando encontró un libro de Salvador Dalí y pasó varias horas de la tarde hechizada por las imágenes; hipnotizada por un mundo cuya existencia le era, hasta ese momento, totalmente ajeno. Ese día se dijo: "Quiero hacer esto.”

A Consuegra la inspiran las emociones y las experiencias; emplea el dibujo como un espejo en el cual proyecta las sensaciones internas que la perturban y la inquietan; limpiando su cuerpo, mente y su más íntimo con cada sesión creativa sobre el papel en el cual dibuja. Los bolígrafos azules son su principal herramienta, pero tambien utiliza rotuladores fluorescentes para crear areas de color sobre las diferentes tonalidades azules.

Aunque disfrutó aprender a dominar una gran variedad de disciplinas en el curso de sus estudios de Bellas Artes, el dibujo, la pintura, y el arte digital se convirtieron en los medios principales de ejecutar su trabajo; su enfrente más impactante con el dibujo comenzando en el verano de 2015 cuando se encontró en medio de una crisis existencial. Este evento creó un punto de inflexión en su carrera artística. Comenzó a dibujar en pequeñas hojas de papel en la habitación donde dormía cuando niña, garabateando con la única herramienta disponible; un bolígrafo. Este inovativo modo de representación, acompañado por su increíble habilidad para contar historias, rápidamente ha catapultado su trabajo a un alto nivel del arte contemporáneo y a las manos de entusiastas coleccionistas que instantaneamente reconocen su maestría y singularidad.

Del 2003 al 2015 Consuegra participó en exposiciones colectivas en galerías y centros artísticos en España; exponiendo obras en acrílico de gran formato e integrando el arte digital en su proceso creativo. En 2015, cambió el pincel por el

The Adventurous Explorer: Lucía Zalbidea ”I feel a strong inclination towards experimenting with all kinds of materials: wood, textiles, and objects I find and sometimes intervene; which reflects my career as an art restorer. My artworks explore the course of life, its traces and invisible marks; and relate to the abstract concepts of waiting, memory, and time.”

It is the consensus that artists are adventurous by nature, but many are not; while others, like Zalbidea, are passionately driven to consistently experimenting with a wide range of materials and methods to produce bodies of work that challenge the intellect and mesmerize art lovers and collectors.

Lucía was born in Valencia, Spain. A graduate in Fine Arts from Valencia’s Polytechnic University; she developed a successful career as an art restorer at P.U.V., the Department of Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage. She is an Arteenred Group member; the co-founder of Al Marge Espai d’Art Gallery in Javea, Alicante, Spain, and the CEO of Aurelia International Publishing House since 1996. She taught several courses related to her praxis and published several articles on Restoration and Art Techniques in specialized books.

The artis presently lives and works in Havana, Cuba; where she is an active participant in Amano Oficio y Diseño - a multimedia platform that includes printed, digital and audiovisual support for the promotion and debate on design, architecture, and craftsmanship in Cuba.

Creatives from the not-too-distant Past Who did what they loved, and left indelible imprints in the history of art ****

Man, Woman, and the History of Art: Janet Sobel and Jackson Pollock Throughout history, the art scale tilts towards the male artist; and Janet Sobel and Jackson Pollock pose the perfect example. Even when the evidence leads to the conclusion that the woman was the originator and the male the one who followed in her footsteps, it is the man who gets all the attention. In the past, some women adopted male identities to become artists, while others never became a part of the artistic legacy. Though there is still a stigma, female artists have made great strides, and continue to strive for balance and recognition.

Janet Sobel - one of the many talented, yet overlooked, female artists left out of the art history discourse - lived in New York during the 1940’s. Her work influenced Jackson Pollock, as she is said to have been making full canvas drip paintings before him. It is well documented that he saw her work and stated that she influenced him greatly. The focus placed on the similarities between Sobel and Pollock’s work blurred the differences that set this incredible female artist apart as a truly unique self-taught artist in her own right.

Janet started painting at age forty-three. The mother of five grown children and a grandmother with absolutely no artistic training, this amazing creative started experimenting with her son’s art supplies. Sol – one of Sobel’s sons - promoted her work and captured the attention of artists, critics, and prominent art world figures; rapidly advancing her career. Her short-lived burst of popularity lasted from 1943 to 1947, when a move from New York to New Jersey extinguished the art scene buzz about her. Her gender - in the context of abstract expressionist art also played a big part in her exclusion from the 1940’s and 50’s mainstream movement. **** In stark contrast to Janet Sobel, Jackson Pollok became a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement; and very well known for what the art world regards as his unique drip painting style. During his lifetime the artist enjoyed considerable fame and notoriety as one of the major creatives of his generation.

Pollock married artist Lee Krasner, for the second time having a woman become an important influence on his career and legacy.

In 1956 – four months after his death at age 44 from an alcohol-related single-car accident – the New York Museum of Modern Art, MoMA, presented a memorial retrospective of his work. A more comprehensive exhibition at the MoMA in 1967

and large-scale retrospective exhibitions at MoMA and The Tate in London in 1998 and 1999 further augmented his legacy.

Considering Sobel’s work a “possible influence” on Pollock, Peggy Guggenheim included her work in her The Art of This Century Gallery in 1945.Critic Clement Greenberg saw her work at the gallery in Jackson’s company, and in his essay "American-Type Painting," noted those works were the first all-over painting he had seen, and stated, "Pollock admitted that these pictures had made an impression on him.”

Lee Krasner - a very good artist in her own right, and the one who helped her husband access individuals who helped his career via her personal connections with influential people in the art world - did not achieve her due recognition until after his death. She lived out her life under the shadow of his fame, first referred to as Jackson Pollock’s wife, and then an artist.

Passionate Madness: Séraphine Louis and Vincent van Gogh Dutch Post-Impressionist painter, Vincent Willem van Gogh, is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. In just over a decade he created 2,100 artworks; including 860 oil paintings, most of them in the last two years of his life. His landscapes, still lifes, portraits, and self-portraits, are characterized by bold colors and the dramatic, impulsive expressive brushwork that contributed to the foundations of modern art. His suicide July 29th, 1890 at age 37 followed years of mental illness and poverty.

Born into an upper-middle-class family on March 30th, 1853, Van Gogh drew as a child and was serious, quiet, and thoughtful. As a young man he worked as an art dealer - often traveling - but became depressed after being transferred to London; turning to religion, and spending time as a Protestant missionary in southern Belgium. He drifted in ill health and solitude before taking up painting in 1881; having moved back home with his parents. His younger brother, Theo, supported him financially; the two kept up a consistent correspondence by letters. His early works - mostly still lifes and depictions of peasant laborers - contain few signs of the vivid color that distinguished his later work. In 1886, he moved to Paris, where he met members of the avant-garde - including Émile Bernard and Paul Gauguin, who were reacting against the Impressionist sensibility. As his work developed, he created a new approach to still lifes and local landscapes. His paintings grew brighter in color as he developed a style that became fully realized during his stay in Arles in the south of France in 1888. During this period, he broadened his subject matter to include a series of olive trees, wheat fields, and sunflowers.

This mesmerizing artist suffered from psychotic episodes and delusions and, even though he worried about his mental stability, he often neglected his physical health, did not eat properly, and drank heavily. His friendship with Gauguin ended after a confrontation with a razor when, in a rage, Vincent severed part of his left ear. He spent time in psychiatric hospitals; including a period at Saint-Rémy. After he discharged himself and moved to the Auberge Ravoux in Auvers-sur-Oise near Paris, he came under the care of homeopathic doctor, Paul Gachet. His depression continued, and on July 27th, 1890, he shot himself in the chest with a revolver and died from his injuries two days later.

Unsuccessful during his lifetime - considered a madman and a failure - he became famous after his suicide, existing in the public imagination as the quintessential misunderstood genius, ‘the artist where discourses on madness and creativity

converge.’ His reputation began to grow in the early 20th century as elements of his painting style came to be incorporated by the Fauves and German Expressionists. He attained widespread critical, commercial, and popular success over the ensuing decades; and is remembered as an important but tragic painter whose troubled personality typifies the romantic ideal of the tortured artist. **** Naïve style self-taught French painter Séraphine Louis - known as Séraphine de Senlis (Séraphine of Senlis) - was inspired by her religious faith and by stainedglass church windows and other religious art. The intensity of her images – in color and replicative design – is at times interpreted as the reflection of a psyche that walked a tightrope between sublime ecstasy and mental illness.

The artist was born in Arsy, Oise on September 3rd, 1864 to a manual labor father and a mother from a farm working family who died on Louis’ first birthday. When her father died before she turned seven, her eldest sister became her charge. First employed as a shepherdess, Séraphine became a domestic worker at the convent of Sisters of Providence in Clermont, Oise; and a housekeeper for middle-class families in the town of Senlis as of 1901.

After arduous day jobs, the artist painted by candlelight - mostly in secret isolation until her considerable body of work was discovered in 1912 by German art collector Wilhelm Uhde - who saw an apples still-life she painted at a neighbor’s house and was astonished to learn that the housekeeper was the painted it. His support had barely begun to lift her horizons when he was forced to leave France in August 1914; as the war between France and Germany had made him an unwelcome outsider in Senlis; at around the time Louis began to bring to light her eccentric persona. They re-established contact in 1927 when Uhde – back in France and living in Chantilly – visited an exhibition of local artists in Senlis and, seeing her work, realized she survived and her art flourished. Under his patronage, this amazing creative began painting large canvases - some of them two meters high – and achieved prominence as the naïve painter of her day. In 1929, Uhde organized the exhibition, "Painters of the Sacred Heart," featuring Louis's art and launching her into a period of financial success like she had never known and was ill prepared to manage. In 1930, when the effects of the Great Depression destroyed her patrons’ finances, Uhde had no choice but to stop buying her paintings.

In 1932, Séraphine entered Clermont's lunatic asylum with the diagnosis of chronic psychosis. There, her creativity found no outlet. Uhde reported that she had died in 1934, but some believed she lived until 1942 in a hospital annex at Villers-sous-Erquery, where she died friendless and alone; strangers buried her in a common grave.

Uhde continued to exhibit her work: at “The Modern Primitives" in Paris in 1932; "The Popular Masters of Reality" in Paris, Zurich, and New York Museum of Modern Art 1937 to 1938 ; the "Primitives of the 20th Century" in Paris in 1942; and finally, in a solo exhibition of her work in Paris in 1945.

Her artworks are predominantly rich fantasies of intensely repeated and embellished floral arrangements; using colors and pigments she made from unusual and exotic ingredients never revealed that have stood the test of time for durable vividness. Her paintings' surfaces have a matte, almost waxy appearance.

Sometimes her signature (typically "S. Louis") is carved by knife, revealing a ground of contrasting color. In some cases, she appears to have signed her paintings before creating them.

Louis was an artist consumed by an irrepressible urge to create, ‘this famous internal necessity of which Kandinsky spoke;’ terms employed by Bertrand Lorquin, conservator of the Musée Maillol in his introduction to the exhibition "Séraphine Louis dite Séraphine de Senlis" at the Musée Maillol in Paris October 1st, 2008 to May 18th, 2009. Her paintings are part of the Musée d'art de Senlis, the Musée d'art naïf in Nice, and the Musée d'Art Moderne Lille Métropole in Villeneuve-d'Ascq.

In 2009, the French biographical film Séraphine by director Martin Provost won seven César Awards; including Best Film and Best Actress for Yolande Moreau, who starred in the title role. The film explores the relationship between Louis and Wilhelm Uhde; from their first encounter in 1912 until her days in the Clermont Asylum.
